We want ...

A gift with a cause. This new Ardmore Armoured Warriors limited-edition silk

scarf collection supports Care for Wild. Inspired by the plight of the rhino - statistics

indicate that one rhino is killed every day! - the magnificent new silk scarf design

was conceived in tribute to this endangered species, and a percentage of each scarf

sale will go to Care for Wild rhino sanctuary, the largest orphaned Rhino Sanctuary

in the world, which specialises in the rescue, rehabilitation, rewilding, and protection

of orphaned and injured rhinos. Armoured Warriors features two mirrored rhinos

with ornately patterned horns. Surrounded by graphic floral and circular motifs, the

design honours the artistry and intricacy of traditional Zulu beadwork and basketry.

A dynamic celebration of pattern and colour, it embodies the vibrancy of Africa with

a palette inspired by the veld – golden grass, ochre earth, orange sunset and blue

sky – and grounded by graphic pattern. With only 100 made in each colourway, these

scarves are collectible artworks in themselves. Also available as pocket squares and

necktie sizing, the collection allows you to wear your heart on your sleeve, as it were,

in support of the courageous conservationists fighting for rhino protection.

Andisa Ntsila:

Inspiring change on and off the field

Andisa Ntsila, one of the winners of the 2024 Get It

“While rugby has been my passion for as long as I can remember, being a

father is the role that truly grounds me,” says Andisa.

He says when he is not on the field he can be found spending time with

family, especially his children, as this is a source of immense joy for him.

Beyond the field, he is committed to giving back to the community through

the Andi Ntsila Foundation, which supports crèches and orphanages

with essential resources. Andisa says his foundation focuses on youth

development and career choices. The first project was helping crèches and

orphanages with necessary supplies, ensuring that children have a better

chance at a future. “Witnessing the struggles of families and wanting to make

a meaningful difference motivated me to take this step. The Andi Ntsila

Foundation was born out of my desire to uplift children in need and shape

the society for the better, inspired by my own experiences growing up and

the support I received.”

For him giving back is essential because it builds stronger,

more connected communities. “It has taught me that

success is not just about personal achievements but

about how you use those achievements to make a

positive impact.” This belief has guided Andisa to be

more empathetic and proactive in helping

others and because of this his

message to younger people

is to never stop believing

in themselves and

that one’s

background doesn’t define their

future – your dedication, kindness, and

perseverance do.

On the question of how Bloemfontein

helped shape who he is today, he

answered: “Bloemfontein has been

integral in shaping my character,

teaching me the value of resilience,

integrity, and teamwork despite any

situation I am faced with.” Some of

his favourite spots around the city

include rugby fields where he spends

countless hours training, as well as local

cafés where he could relax with friends

and family.

Andisa says winning the Get It Cover

Search 2024 was a moment of pride

and joy. It validated the hard work

and dedication that he has put into

both sport and his community efforts.

“Personally, it’s an acknowledgment

of my growth beyond rugby, and

professionally, it’s a platform to bring

more attention to the causes I’m

passionate about.”

As Andisa’s career continues to unfold

he hopes to still be playing rugby at

an elite level while continuing to grow

his foundation’s reach and impact. “I

want to develop as a father and leader,

finding new ways to inspire those

around me. A big dream of mine is to

establish a centre that combines

sports training with academic

support for youth.”

Lerato Seliane

A passion for fitness and giving back

to Bloemfontein’s youth

Lerato Seliane, one of the winners of the 2024 Get It Cover Search, made possible by Kryolan Free

State, is not just a fitness instructor – she’s a dedicated advocate for youth empowerment and

community upliftment. With a heart for helping the next generation, Lerato has been actively

involved in assisting underprivileged schools in Bloemfontein by introducing children to the joys

of sport and fitness.

Text: Justine Fortuin Photograph: Gypseenia Lion

Winning the 2024

Get It Cover Search

was extremely

unexpected for

Lerato Seliane, but it’s

just one of many accomplishments for

this young lady. “I was shocked. I’m still

shocked!” Lerato expresses.

Born and raised in Bloemfontein, Lerato

was brought up by her mother and

has always been proud of her roots in

the city that has shaped her. Now, she’s

using her platform and expertise to

give back, particularly to the youth of

Bloemfontein.

Lerato’s journey into the fitness world

was more of a happy accident.

“I was actually working at Virgin Active

when I discovered my passion for

fitness,” she shares. “This career found

me, and I believe that’s because it’s

always evolving. I don’t like being

bored, and fitness is constantly

changing.

I love being thrown into the deep end.”

One of the things that keeps Lerato

connected to her community is the

sense of unity that Bloemfontein offers.

“I love that everything is central,” she

says. “The day and night markets, the

vibes around Lemo Fest and Cufa –

such an experience! And these cute

coffee shops – absolutely love them!”

Beyond her work as a fitness instructor,

Lerato is committed to making a

tangible difference in her community.

Her initiative to assist underprivileged

schools with sports started when she

was approached by someone with an

idea that resonated with her deeply.

“I’ve always wanted to help the

community, but I didn’t know where to

start. When I was given the opportunity,

I knew this was my chance,” she

explains.

Even though she struggled with

depression at the time, seeing the

positive impact on the kids made it all

worthwhile.

“For me, it was seeing those kids smile

and laugh.

It warmed my heart. The community

loved our efforts – just showing up and

doing what was expected of us.”

Lerato believes in the power of sport

to help kids stay active and engaged.

“Sport keeps them busy. I believe

that being active should start in the

foundation phase of a child’s life. It’s

important to stay active, and it helps

you live longer,” she says.

When she’s not working or helping

local children, Lerato enjoys the simple

pleasures of life. “I love sleeping,” she

says with a laugh. “I also enjoy reading,

hiking, and spending time with my

friends or partner.”

Looking to the future, Lerato has big

dreams. “I would love to see talented

kids being exposed to professional

coaching, whether it’s through a school

placement or joining a specific sports

club,” she shares.

“God willing, I would love to have my

own sports-specific clinic, and I’m also

working on expanding my foundation.”

Her message to those who look up to

her is simple but powerful: “Do small

things with great love,” she says. “That’s

the foundation, and the rest will follow.

Be solution-oriented!”

For Lerato, the journey is just beginning.

With a heart for her community and a

passion for empowering youth, she is

not only shaping her own future but

also helping to shape the future of

Bloemfontein’s next generation.

Unlock your makeup skills

with Kryolan Free State workshops

When we started with Kryolan Free State, the demand for the brand – especially

its foundations – was phenomenal. More so, the demand for interactive how-to

makeup workshops in a format that was both fun and informative.

Kryolan has a wide variety of foundations and other

makeup products. The brand was initially developed

for professional makeup artists and then adapted to

the retail market over the years. The team couldn’t

wait to interact with you – their retail market – and

teach you how the pros do it.

During these workshops it quickly became

evident that clients had the same daunting

questions: How do I know which to use for

my specific skin and needs?

As a qualified somatologist, the business

owner Jaclyn Vosloo jotted down her

knowledge in a manual, taking careful

consideration to simplify the makeup

application process in a way that anyone can

understand and apply. Each client booking a

workshop gets one of these how-to manuals

empowering you to take home these skills and

apply them, developing your unique make-up

style as you grow in skill.

So, what can you expect from booking an

interactive makeup workshop with Kryolan Free State?

PROMOTION

According to Jaclyn, a Kryolan makeup workshop works like this:

Great skin is the foundation of any makeup look. Makeup doesn’t

flake badly, un-prepped skin flakes. Therefore the first step is to

analyse your skin and select a primer and foundation suited to

your skin type. What looks good on your friend won’t necessarily

work on you. It is a bespoke process that requires the correct

layering of products to create a flawless finish that lasts all day.

This step is then completed with the correct setting powder that

compliments these products for later.

The cherry on top? Lipstick. Boy, do we have some spoils for

you here. Lip stains that last 6 hours, nourishing lip oils, velvety

lipsticks and beautifully coordinated lip liners. Our pro team

will help analyse your colour profile, style and personality

to assist you in choosing the correct lip product and go-to

shades. In the words of Coco Chanel: “If you’re sad, add lipstick

and attack.”

Next up, we focus on highlighting and contouring, the makeup

trends change in season and as a pro team, we are conscious

of this. We adapt the workshop accordingly. The current trend

is glowy skin and enhancing natural features. A natural glam. In

this step, we also demonstrate blushers and bronzers carefully

paying attention to the colours suited to your skin tone.

Personalities differ - not everyone wants rosey cheeks and not

everyone wants heavy contour. We are mindful of this and help

you adapt this step to your style and personality.

Lastly, we set and seal it all in with your selected powder

and a durable setting spray. With an added SPF of course.

By the time you are done with your workshop you will have

identified colours that work for you and techniques that leave

you feeling confident to do your own makeup looks.

These workshops are fun and interactive. This is evident in

the next step: colour selection and application. Our expert

team takes their time in helping you with a list of colours and

techniques that complement your eye colour and shape. Here

we also play with liners and lashes – every girl’s favourite.

“We look forward to welcoming you to your very own

bespoke experience. Let us help you find and develop your

make-up style with Kryolan Professional Make Up,” said Jaclyn.

This festive season, Kryolan Free State is gifting Get It readers

with an exclusive 10% off on your workshop booking. Simply

bring your mag with you and show the makeup artist this

article to quality for the discount.

Discount is valid until 31 January 2025. Bookings can be

made via WhatsApp at 084 208 3736.

A champion both in the

Caylin Majiedt is an aspiring kickboxer who represented her country at the World

Text: Warren Hawkins Photos: Gino Harmse AND SUPPLIED

At first glance, it’s hard to imagine a school student

balancing the demands of academics with the

intense training schedule of an international

kickboxer. But for Caylin Majiedt, a rising star

in the world of kickboxing, these two worlds are not

Caylin’s

one that

to pursue boxing, but a conversation

with her father’s friend steered her

towards kickboxing instead. With

a defining passion. “I initially wanted to

do only boxing, but my dad and Uncle

Pieter encouraged me to try kickboxing.

My father supported me, and the rest is

history.”

One of Caylin’s defining moments came

when she represented the Free State

at the national championships and

claimed the SA under 70kg full contact

title. “It was both unbelievable and

unreal,” she says. “It felt like a dream, but

it also made me realise that nothing is

impossible if you believe in yourself and

give your best.” This victory set the stage

for her most significant achievement

to date – the World Junior Kickboxing

Championships.

Representing South Africa at the World

Championships was a milestone that

Caylin will never forget. “It was an

honour representing my country,” she

recalls. “Wearing the national colours

on the international stage was an

unforgettable experience. Knowing that

I wasn’t just competing for myself, but

for the whole nation, was humbling.”

In the end, her hard work paid off when

she won a bronze medal, ranking third

in the world in her weight division. It

was a proud moment for Caylin, not

just for the medal but for the realisation

that her dedication had brought her

Caylin and her dad, Donovan Majiedt.

to the pinnacle of her sport. “The most

challenging part of the competition is

the pressure to perform,” she admits.

“There’s a high expectation from

supporters, especially my local club

and coach. It’s intense, but it’s also what

pushes me to keep going.”

Kickboxing is as much a mental

challenge as it is a physical one, and

Caylin understands this better than

most. Training five times a week, for

at least 2 hours per session, she’s

constantly pushing her body to its limits

while also maintaining a sharp mental

focus.

It felt like a dream,

but it also made me

realise that nothing

is impossible if you

believe in yourself and

give your best.

Support plays a crucial role in Caylin’s

success. Her father, who shares her

passion for combat sports, has been

her constant companion and strongest

supporter. “He’s been there for every

training session, every tournament, and

every fight,” she says. “He’s always in my

corner, literally and figuratively. I don’t

think I’d be where I am without his help

and encouragement.”

While Caylin’s success in the ring is

remarkable, it’s her ability to balance her

kickboxing career with her schoolwork

that truly sets her apart. “Balancing

school and kickboxing is challenging,

but I’ve learned to manage my time

effectively,” she says. “Kickboxing has

taught me discipline, and I make sure

I finish all my school assignments and

study before I go to training.”

The sacrifices extend to times when

big competitions coincide with

school exams. When the Junior World

Championships overlapped with her

Matric Prelim exams, Caylin’s school

made special arrangements, allowing

her to focus fully on the competition.

“I’m grateful for the support from my

school,” she says. “They allowed me to

write the exams after I returned, which

ADVERTORIAL

gave me the chance to perform at my

best in the competition.”

Despite her success, Caylin remains

focused on her education and future

career. Next year, she plans to study

either Occupational Therapy or

Veterinary Science, fields that are both

time-consuming and challenging.

However, she’s not ready to leave

kickboxing behind. “A professional

career in kickboxing may not be

possible right now due to my studies,

but I’ll continue to compete at the level

I am now,” she says. “I’ve learned how to

balance both, and I’ll keep doing that

for as long as I can.”

While Caylin is focused on her academic

goals, she’s also looking to the future of

her kickboxing career. “One day, I want

to become a professional kickboxing

champion,” she says. “I’d also like to try

MMA, although my dad is not too keen

on the idea. He thinks it’s too risky,

especially for my face! But I’d love to

give it a try,” she laughed.

Even when her competitive days

come to an end, Caylin hopes to stay

involved in kickboxing, whether as a

coach or mentor to upcoming fighters.

“Kickboxing has given me so much,”

she reflects. “I want to give back to the

sport, whether it’s through coaching

or mentorship. I want to help the next

generation achieve what I’ve been able

to achieve.”

For young athletes hoping to follow

in Caylin’s footsteps, she has some

practical advice. “Time management

is key,” she says. “You need to prioritise

what’s important for your future. Find

a routine that allows you to balance

school and training without letting

one take over the other. It’s all about

creating a fixed schedule and sticking

to it.”

Caylin Majiedt’s journey is a testament

to what can be achieved with

dedication, hard work, and a clear sense

of purpose. From the intense training

sessions to the pressure-filled moments

on the world stage, she has proven that

success isn’t just about talent – it’s about

resilience, discipline, and the willingness

to keep pushing forward, no matter the

challenge. Whether in the classroom or

the ring, Caylin is a true champion, and

her story is only just beginning.

Right now, she is preparing for the

African Kickboxing Championships

taking place in Johannesburg from 9 to

12 December.

Festive looking Solar Flare, leafy veggies packed

with protein and fruiting capsicums

Text: ALICE COETZEE

We’re planting …

Coleus Volcanica Solar Flare

because it’s the perfect plant for the

festive season, with its heart-shaped red

and burgundy leaves, edged with gold. The

underside of the leaves is yellow green, making it a

colourful feature plant for containers and the garden.

It is part of the sun coleus range that does best with

morning sun but also tolerates shade. The tall plants

(90cm high and 70cm wide) bring a touch of drama

into the garden. Plant in fertile soil that retains moisture

but doesn’t get soggy. Plants in containers should be

watered daily or every second day in Summer. Feed

monthly with a liquid fertiliser. It will perform as

a perennial in frost free gardens but is frost

tender and should be treated as an

annual in areas that receive frost.

Veggie of the month

Leafy veggies generally don’t like the heat,

but one that can handle it is our indigenous

spinach, better known as Marog (Amaranthus

tricolour) or Imbuya. It is an excellent hot,

dry weather substitute for spinach. Marog

has arrow-shaped leaves that are thicker than

spinach leaves and can be picked over a long

period. The young leaves have a mild flavour

and can be eaten raw or cooked like spinach.

They are an excellent source of plant protein

as well as vitamins C and A. Marog grows best

in full sun in well composted soil. The seeds

are very small, and it is easier to sow them

evenly by mixing them with sand or dry soil.

The seeds are usually planted in rows. Seed

germinates within 7 to 14 days and the final

spacing should be 25cm apart. Plants need

regular watering and grow easily. For the best

flavour, harvest the tender tops when they

are about 25cm tall, by cutting them off with

scissors and then leaving the plant to re-grow.

Marog can be intercropped with other veggies.

Details: kirchhoffs.co.za

Indoor plant of the month ... this dwarf

Capsicum Acapulco is irresistible with its

glossy multi-coloured fruit. Pop it into a pot

as a centrepiece for the Christmas feast table.

It is also a super gift. It bears loads of fruit,

which doesn’t have the heat of a chilli pepper,

being slightly sweet, so it is safe to be around

children. To keep on fruiting capsicums, need

at least six hours of sun a day. A good idea

is to enjoy it indoors for a few days and then

move it onto a sunny patio or into the garden.

Plant in rich, well composted soil that drains

well. Don’t let the soil dry out completely but

also avoid overwatering and soggy soil.

Garden tasks

Going away? Before leaving check the irrigation system

for blocked nozzles and make sure that automatic systems

are set correctly. Move plants in pots and hanging baskets

out of the direct sun. • Fertilise flowering plants but if you

are going away, delay until your return. • There is still time

to sow marigolds, alyssum, California poppies, portulaca

and nasturtiums. • Water early in the morning or

late afternoon. • Pests are out in force. Use organic insect

sprays when pests are noticed.

The final stretch

It’s been quite a show. And the countdown has begun for the finale of the

eleventh season of Tropika Island of Treasure: Zanzibar. We chat to contestants

to find out what they suggest you take to an island holiday.

Set in the dreamy paradise of Zanzibar,

this season has served up everything we

love … marvellous scenery, all kinds of

rather extreme challenges … and, what’s

any good reality show without a splash

of star power?

Seven everyday South Africans jumped

into this adventure headfirst, teaming

up with celebs who brought their

A-game to the island. Think Tiktoker

extraordinaire Chad Jones, sports

presenter Nqobile Khwezi, former Miss

SA Ndavi Nokeri, heartthrob model Karl

Kugelmann, actor Hungani Ndlovu, TV

sweetheart Roxy Burger, and the everysmooth

Bobby van Jaarsveld.

In the past 10 weeks, the teams have

faced it all. All kinds of tricky mental

and physical challenges, which often

triggered emotional outbursts which

(to be honest) has kept us glued to

the screen.

And, dishing up the tea is none other

than South Africa’s media darling, Zanele

Potelwa. With each passing episode,

the stakes have climbed higher, and

the challenges have gotten tougher. In

fact, episode 10 hit us with a plot twist

as the consumer contestants battled

each other AND the celebs. (Just when

we thought things couldn’t get any

more intense.)

What’s in it for the winning duo? Only

the biggest prize in TIOT history … a

shared R1 million and a brand-new

Suzuki Jimny for both members. So,

needless to say, we’re on the edge of

our seats!

Don’t miss the action-packed final

episodes, airing every Saturday at 7.30pm

on SABC 3, with repeats on SABC 1 at 9pm

and streaming on SABC+. The season

finale officially airing December 14.

So, clear your Saturday night and tune in

to the final episodes of Tropika Island of

Treasure. The countdown is on … who’s

going to claim that treasure? Tune in

and find out!

The contestants’ top travel essentials

We got the inside scoop from the contestants themselves on their must-have

travel essentials. So, whether you’re planning your own island escape or just

love to know what the stars are toting along, here’s what’s on their lists.
