Chairman’s

Welcome

V2:2024

RBrothers and friends of the Delta Chi

Foundation (DCF),

The above lyrics are from one of my favorite songs—

if you haven’t heard it, give it a search. The song

encourages me to be proactive and passionate and

stretch myself for continual improvement. As the

new DCF Chairman, I am committed to further

advancing our organization and its impact on our

beloved Fraternity. My goals for the DCF in the

next biennium are twofold.

1. Raise as much money as possible to support Delta Chi members’

educational and leadership development needs.

2. Grant as much money as possible to support these needs.

These goals are simple but not easy. They will require proactivity, passion,

and stretching—for me, the DCF staff, board of directors, and our donors.

I believe that Delta Chi matters more now than ever on our campuses and

communities. Our Delta Chi chapters and undergraduate brothers need our

support right now.

Delta Chi has stepped up its educational and leadership programming

for undergraduate brothers and volunteer alumni through the revamped

Regional Leadership Academy (RLA) and the NIC award-winning Delta

Chi Dale Carnegie Scholars Program to meet this need. The RLA includes

and expands on the successful “A”s’ Academy program with training for

all chapter officers over three days. The Academy also consists of a Dale

Carnegie workshop for all participants and a three-day Dale Carnegie

workshop for a brother from each chapter designated as a Delta Chi Dale

Carnegie Scholar. The Dale Carnegie Scholar from each chapter can earn

college credits upon program completion. As you can see, the Fraternity is

proactive, passionate, and stretching itself to help make our brothers better.

This is how you can help. The DCF supports the Fraternity with grants to

help cover a portion of the RLA and Dale Carnegie Scholars programs, but

we need to do more. This is where my two goals come in. We must raise

as much money as possible to ensure these programs remain available and

affordable for our members.

I encourage you to join me in making an impact by donating to the Delta

Chi Foundation.

“What are you waiting for?”

With its record-breaking attendance, this summer’s

Trustee Society Experience clearly indicated our donors’

commitment to celebrating the Foundation’s impact on Delta

Chi. The Trustee Society Donors, who play a crucial role in

our mission, broke away from the Convention for a daytime

yacht cruise showcasing some of Miami’s most sought-after

scenes. Their commitment to, and impact on, the Delta Chi

experience is a testament to our Fraternity’s core value—to

assist in the acquisition of a sound education.

2024 Trustee Society Experience Recap Celebrating Our New Founders

Thank you to all our Trustees. We eagerly look forward

to the 2025 Trustee Society Experience, where we will once

again come together to celebrate our shared mission and

impact on Delta Chi!

Trustee Society Donor Spotlight

William Kennedy, New Mexico State ‘03

Being a Trustee Society donor is a way to elevate your support and

increase your impact on Delta Chi. William Kennedy is a long-term

Trustee Society donor who believes in the Delta Chi experience. William

said, “I give to the Delta Chi Foundation because I don’t know where

I’d be without Delta Chi. Delta Chi has given me the confidence to be

who I am and to know what I need to do in life. I want to support the

organization that has given me so much. We’ve accomplished so much

in the last ten years, and I am so excited to see where we will be in the

next 10. The possibilities are endless!”

The Foundation is grateful for your support and thanks Brother Kennedy

for his many years of support. Join him on his mission to make a

difference by becoming a Trustee Society donor.

This year, we proudly celebrate 70 years of the Delta Chi

Foundation’s invaluable support in assisting in the acquisition of

a sound education. Our mission, fueled by the generous donations

from our brothers and friends of Delta Chi, is to enhance Delta

Chi’s educational and leadership development programs. The

Foundation’s recognition of these donors, at various lifetime

giving levels from $500 to $1 million, is a testament to the

profound impact of their contributions.

New Founder is one of Delta Chi Foundation’s highest and most

prestigious lifetime giving levels. A donor achieves this level

when donating $100,000. This year, we reached a significant

milestone in the Foundation’s history, with two individuals

achieving the esteemed status of New Founder and two others

achieving Second Degree New Founder ($250,000+). Their

dedication and generosity serve as an inspiration to us all.

Don La Plante, a Southern California alumni initiate, made

history when he became the first alumnus initiate to achieve

the lifetime giving level status of New Founder. His first gift

was to the Fraternity in 1982, following his initiation into

the Southern California chapter as a faculty/staff member in

January of 1981. In 1987, he made his first contribution to the

Delta Chi Foundation. Don said, “I would encourage all of you

to take the opportunity to give back the Delta Chi in service to

the undergraduates and local chapters, participate in alumni

chapters, and particularly provide financial support to the

fraternity via the Delta Chi Foundation.”

Boyd Boehlje, Iowa State ’61, has long believed in Delta Chi’s

values, providing decades of service to the Fraternity and

Foundation. Upon graduation, he served as a Field Secretary

(Leadership Consultant), followed by over 30 years of service to

the Delta Chi Foundation. During this time, he simultaneously

served the Delta Chi Board of Regents. Boyd added to his

notable Delta Chi achievements this year when he became the

Foundation’s 31st New Founder.

The Foundation also celebrated Brother Michael Carroll, Auburn

’71, and Brother Phil Yang, Abracadabra ’80, for achieving

Second Degree New Founder. These remarkable brothers have

shown what it means to go above and beyond with their support.

DCF extends a heartfelt thank you for your profound impact

on Delta Chi and unwavering belief in our mission. Your

contributions are the cornerstone of our success!

Captain of Industry:

Drew Reavis

Appalachian State ‘92

Engineering a

Sustainable Legacy

Drew Reavis’ journey as an environmental and

safety engineer is a testament to Delta Chi’s

profound impact on a professional career. His

path began at Appalachian State University,

where he majored in Chemistry, and he later

pursued a second degree in Chemical Engineering

at North Carolina State University (NC State).

This educational foundation laid the groundwork

for a distinguished career that spans across

pharmaceuticals, chemical manufacturing, and

governmental projects.

Guided by his father’s early advice that

education was the most valuable inheritance

he could receive, Drew has consistently

leveraged his academic background to lead

with innovation and commitment in every role

he has undertaken. Drew’s experiences with

Delta Chi helped shape him into a leader who

not only excels in his field but also passionately

advocates for environmental sustainability and

community engagement.

Fraternity Influence and Networking

Delta Chi was more than a social outlet for him; it was a cornerstone of

his personal and professional development. Joining the fraternity in his

senior year at Appalachian State, Drew discovered a supportive network

that would significantly impact his career trajectory. Delta Chi’s four

core values became guiding principles in Drew’s professional life. As

he moved from Appalachian State to NC State, the fraternity’s network

provided moral support and practical professional assistance.

Throughout his career, the fraternity’s extensive alumni network

facilitated valuable connections. These relationships proved instrumental

as Drew navigated the complex landscape of environmental engineering,

helping him secure early career opportunities and providing ongoing

professional advice and support.

While specific roles like his position at Bayer resulted from his

qualifications and experience, the soft skills and networking prowess

honed through Delta Chi undoubtedly played a role in his career

development. The fraternity’s influence extended beyond mere job

placements, fostering a sense of community and professional ethos that

Drew carried into each new challenge.

Professional Career

Drew Reavis’ environmental and safety engineering journey has been

marked by global influence and leadership, beginning with his pivotal

role at Monsanto. There, he led critical environmental remediation

and safety initiatives, setting new standards for environmental

responsibility within the agricultural sector. His efforts addressed

immediate environmental concerns and pioneered practices that would

influence the industry at large.

After Monsanto’s merger with Bayer, Drew ascended to Director, Head

of North America Environmental and Sustainability. In this expansive

role, he oversaw Bayer’s environmental strategies across North America,

ensuring compliance with national and international environmental

regulations. His leadership during this period was crucial in steering

the company through complex regulatory landscapes and towards

more sustainable practices on a large scale. Drew’s career also included

significant international experience, notably in Kundl, Austria, where

he served as a project manager at a pharmaceutical plant. This position

underscored his ability to manage and implement process improvements

across diverse geographical locations, further highlighting his

adaptability and global perspective.

Known for his practical and collaborative approach to leadership, Drew

consistently fosters a work environment that values cross-functional

teamwork, active listening, and result-oriented projects. His strategies

in waste reduction and ecological impact improvements have enhanced

operations at his workplaces and set a precedent for industry-wide

sustainability practices.

Significant Projects and Achievements

Throughout his career at Monsanto and later at Bayer, Drew Reavis has

been at the forefront of pioneering projects emphasizing environmental

sustainability and safety. His commitment to environmental

remediation has led to transformative changes in how industrial

sites manage and mitigate the impact of historical pollution. Drew’s

leadership in these initiatives achieved compliance with stringent

regulations and helped restore lands, making them safe again for

agricultural and community use.

75

Drew’s efforts extended beyond remediation to include proactive sustainability programs

at Bayer, where he led the charge to reduce the company’s environmental footprint. His

innovative projects aimed at improving waste management systems significantly reduced

waste production and boosted recycling efforts across the company’s North American

operations.

The broader impact of Drew’s work is evident in the shift towards more sustainable practices

within the sectors he has influenced. His projects have served as benchmarks, inspiring other

companies to adopt environmentally responsible actions and integrate them into their core

business strategies. Drew’s holistic approach to environmental engineering and management

has advanced his company’s operational goals and contributed significantly to the industry’s

ongoing dialogue about sustainable and safe practices.

Personal Life and Philosophies

Drew Reavis’ life is profoundly intertwined with his wife, Paula, who has been his companion

since childhood. Growing up in the same neighborhood, their relationship has been a pillar of

stability and mutual support. “We’ve known each other since we were kids, growing up just

down the street from one another. Even before we started dating, our shared history meant we

understood each other deeply. Our relationship has always been a true partnership, grounded

in mutual support and a lifetime of shared experiences,” said Drew.

This long-standing partnership has significantly influenced Drew’s approach to both life

and work, underscoring the importance of strong personal bonds in achieving professional

success. Paula’s background in guidance and her community involvement resonate with

Drew’s commitment to mentorship and service, enriching his life beyond the confines of his

professional achievements. Drew’s approach to life is marked by a readiness to take risks and

a flexible attitude toward change—qualities that have propelled his career forward. Whether

transitioning to new roles in his field or engaging in hobbies like scuba diving, he embraces

new experiences enthusiastically.

“When I was at NC State, I took a scuba class with Larry Brown, a military diver who taught

us to do it right or not at all,” said Drew. It became a great escape from chemical engineering,

spending a couple of days each week in the pool and at rock quarries. I’ve been diving ever

since, and when my wife discovered she enjoyed it too, it became something we both love.”

This adaptability is complemented by a commitment to continuous learning, ensuring he

remains effective and informed in the fast-evolving field of environmental engineering.

Retirement Plans and Future Endeavors

As Drew Reavis nears retirement, he has several plans that align with his interests and

lifelong commitment to environmental stewardship. Drew is looking forward to more diving

opportunities, particularly in locations known for their natural beauty. Drew also plans to

increase his involvement in volunteer efforts, focusing on environmental conservation and

education. He intends to use his expertise to support non-profit organizations that work

towards these goals, helping to raise public awareness about environmental issues. He plans

to stay connected with Delta Chi by mentoring and supporting members and helping them

develop leadership skills within the fraternity by emphasizing the values that have been

important to his career success.

A Legacy in Action

Drew Reavis’s professional journey in environmental and safety engineering has not only

exemplified but actively embodied Delta Chi’s core values. His career has consistently

promoted environmental responsibility, developed innovative solutions to complex challenges,

advanced industry standards toward sustainability, and assisted in mentoring the next

generation of leaders.

Guided by foundational experiences—his father’s wise counsel on education and the supportive

network of Delta Chi—Drew has navigated his career with a commitment that extends

beyond professional achievements to include personal growth and community service. As he

approaches retirement, his focus remains on impacting the world positively, continuing to

live out the values instilled during his formative years with Delta Chi. Drew Reavis’s story is

a powerful reminder of how deeply fraternity values can influence a life, shaping a career and

a legacy. As he moves forward, his actions continue to resonate with the call to “Promote,”

“Develop,” “Advance,” and “Assist,” ensuring that his impact will be felt for generations to come.

6 KNIGHT ERRANT | DELTA CHI FOUNDATION

Impact Report: Leadership

From Texas Tech to Great Wolf

Lodge, Keenan Weiss Exemplifies

Leadership and Service in the

Hospitality Industry

Keenan Weiss, Texas Tech ‘12, is a proud Delta

Chi alumnus who has built an impressive career

in the hospitality industry, rising to significant

leadership positions at Great Wolf Lodge. Deeply

rooted in his Delta Chi experience, Keenan’s story

highlights the enduring impact of fraternity

values on his approach to leadership and his

dedication to shaping the next generation of

industry leaders.

Delta Chi: Where Leadership Begins

Although Keenan’s career path began in high

school, where Great Wolf Lodge recruited him,

his career was heavily influenced by his time

with Delta Chi at Texas Tech. The fraternity

provided a foundation where Keenan developed

critical leadership qualities and values that

would shape his entire professional journey.

Surrounded by brothers who valued integrity,

service, and personal growth, Keenan found

inspiration and guidance that would influence

his career decisions. His involvement in Delta

Chi was more than an extracurricular activity—

it was a transformative experience that laid the

groundwork for his professional ethos.

Climbing the Ladder: From Aquatics

to General Manager

Keenan’s hospitality career began in earnest

as an Aquatics Supervisor at Great Wolf Lodge

in Grapevine, Texas. His strong work ethic

and natural leadership skills quickly became

evident, allowing him to ascend the ranks and

hold various pivotal roles, including Director of

Aquatics and Assistant General Manager.

His career trajectory took him across several

locations, including Grapevine, Texas; Manteca,

California; and Kansas City, Kansas, where

Keenan refined his operational expertise and

leadership acumen, culminating in his current

role as General Manager in Kansas City. “Every

step up the ladder came with its challenges, but

those challenges are what built my character and

strengthened my resolve,” Keenan reflects.

Leading by Example:

A Hands-On Approach

Keenan’s leadership philosophy is characterized

by a hands-on, employee-first approach. He

places a strong emphasis on his team’s well-being

and professional development. His leadership

style, which motivates and supports staff for

success, is deeply rooted in his undergraduate

experience, where he learned the importance of

service, collaboration, and leading by example.

Keenan’s approach is one of empowerment—he

believes that by investing in his team, he can

foster a culture of trust, respect, and mutual

growth. “Leadership is not about being in charge;

it’s about taking care of those in your charge,”

Keenan often says, a philosophy that echoes the

values instilled in him during his fraternity days.

Setting New Standards:

Achievements that Matter

Throughout his career, Keenan has led significant

projects, including the successful launch of

several new Great Wolf Lodge properties.

Keenan’s ability to manage large-scale projects

with precision and dedication has driven business

growth and set new benchmarks for excellence

within the hospitality industry, reflecting his

deep commitment to both his team and the guests

they serve.

A Partnership Built on Mutual Goals

Keenan’s personal life is deeply intertwined

with his professional journey, especially

through the connections he made in Delta

Chi. It was within the fraternity that he met

his wife, Maggie. Together, they have built a

life centered on mutual support and shared

goals, focusing intensively on their careers and

future aspirations and pursuing their ambitions

with dedication and clarity. “We’re a team in

every sense of the word, both in life and in

our careers,” Keenan reflects, underscoring the

strength of their bond.

A Legacy of Leadership and Service

Keenan Weiss’s journey is a compelling example

of how Delta Chi can significantly influence both

personal and professional development. From his

early days as an undergraduate member to his

current role as General Manager at Great Wolf

Lodge, Keenan’s path embodies the fraternity’s

values of promoting friendship, developing

character, advancing justice, and assisting in

the acquisition of a sound education. Keenan’s

journey is a powerful reminder of the impact

that Delta Chi’s values can have, not just during

college years but throughout a lifetime of

leadership and service.

Impact Report: Scholarship

Garrett Hachem:

2024 Graduate Student

Scholarship Recipient

Garrett Hachem, one of the two recipients

of the 2024 Graduate Student Scholarship,

exemplifies the qualities that this prestigious

award honors. The scholarship recognizes

students who demonstrate a combination of

academic excellence in their graduate and

undergraduate degree programs, proven

service to their chapter, and involvement in

extracurricular activities.

Garrett graduated from Augusta University

in May 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in

Kinesiology. His passion for physical therapy

led him to continue his education at Augusta

University, where he is currently pursuing a

Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree with

his expected graduation in May 2026, Garrett

remains committed to advancing his education

and making a significant impact in his field.

Discovering Delta Chi

Garrett’s connection with Delta Chi began in the

fall of 2019. The son of a pastor and a realtor,

Garrett was raised in a supportive, values-driven

environment that emphasized independence and

personal responsibility. His upbringing naturally

led him to seek meaningful college connections

and opportunities.

“When I first explored Delta Chi during

recruitment, what stood out to me was the

fraternity’s unique blend of camaraderie and

professionalism,” Garrett recalled. “It wasn’t just

about social events—it was about growing as an

individual and being part of something bigger

than yourself.” This realization convinced Garrett

that Delta Chi was the perfect fit, providing

him with a brotherhood that would support his

ambitions and offer lifelong connections.

Academic and Professional Growth

Garrett’s academic journey at Augusta

University was marked by a clear focus on

his goal of becoming a physical therapist.

Majoring in Kinesiology on a pre-physical

therapy track, he excelled academically while

also participating in the Honors Program.

His dedication to learning led him to conduct

research on the nutrition and caffeine

consumption of tactical athletes, a topic that

would later become the focus of his thesis.

In addition to his studies, Garrett gained

valuable hands-on experience by working

on the orthopedic post-op floor at Piedmont

Augusta Hospital. “Working in the hospital

allowed me to apply what I was learning in

real-time and confirmed my passion for helping

others through physical therapy,” he said.

Garrett’s commitment to excellence extended

beyond the classroom. He took on several

leadership roles within Delta Chi, including

Alumni Relations Chair, “A”, Recruitment

Chair, and Brotherhood Chair. He was also

instrumental in establishing a chapter house,

serving as the Housing Chair during that

pivotal period. “Each role challenged me to

grow, but serving as “A” was particularly

impactful,” Garrett noted. “It taught me that

leadership isn’t about making everyone happy;

it’s about making the right decisions for the

greater good.”

Another key takeaway for Garrett was the

value of hard work. “Delta Chi reinforced

the idea that you get out what you put in,”

he emphasized. “Nothing in life is handed to

you—you have to earn it. This mindset has been

crucial in both my academic journey and my

approach to life.”

Future Aspirations

Now well into his Doctorate of Physical Therapy

program, Garrett is focused on his goal of

working in sports physical therapy. He recently

completed his first outpatient orthopedic

clinical rotation, an experience that further

solidified his passion for the field. “I’m excited

about the opportunity to help athletes recover

from injuries and get back to doing what they

love,” he said. Garrett envisions a future where

he can combine his love of sports with his

professional skills to make a meaningful impact

in the lives of his patients.

A Message of Gratitude

Garrett expressed heartfelt gratitude to the

donors who made his scholarship possible.

“The scholarship has made a huge impact on

my education, not just financially but also

as a reminder of the lifelong brotherhood in

Delta Chi. I’m incredibly blessed to receive

this support, and it motivates me to give back

in the future,” he said. “To all the donors, I

want to say thank you. Your generosity is not

just helping me financially—it’s fueling my

determination to succeed and to uphold the

values of Delta Chi in everything I do.”

(RLCs), which had been a long-standing pillar of the

Fraternity’s leadership training. The RLA format, a more

intensive three-day experience, set a new standard for

preparing undergraduate members to excel in leadership,

recruitment, and chapter management.

Purpose and Vision

The creation of the RLA was driven by a commitment to

enhancing the undergraduate experience within Delta Chi.

The primary objective was to better equip active members

The 2024 RLA saw an impressive turnout, with over 750

undergraduate participants from 103 chapters. Despite winter

weather disruptions, attendance remained strong, with an

overall participation rate of 85-95% across all locations.

Participants left the program with action plans tailored to

their chapter’s needs, covering areas such as manpower

growth, alumni engagement, and chapter operations. These

plans were designed to help chapters implement practical

solutions and ensure accountability through clear deadlines

and support systems.

Feedback and Results

The majority of respondents praised the opportunities to

engage with brothers from other chapters, as well as the

leadership development and strategic planning sessions.

Key learning outcomes included:

• Preparedness for officer roles: 70.8% of attendees felt more

prepared to serve as officers.

• Confidence in leadership skills: 75.9% reported increased

confidence in their ability to make a positive impact.

• Understanding of accountability: 78.5% gained a deeper

understanding of the importance of accountability within

their chapters.

Looking Forward

The success of the 2024 RLA has set a strong foundation for

future leadership training within Delta Chi. With Regions

voting to continue the program in 2025, the Fraternity is

poised to build on the lessons learned, providing even more

focused and impactful officer training.
