Making a B
Statement a
By Adewumi Victoria
In fashion, making a bold statement
can seem very tasking. Especially
for men who often feel confined to
traditional styles. But embracing
individuality and showcasing your
personality through your wardrobe is
not only achievable. Here’s a guide
to help you step out of your comfort
zone and make a lasting impact with
your style.
Well Tailored
Attire
Invest in Statement Pieces
Every man should have a few statement pieces in his
wardrobe that serve as staples. Think unique jackets, eyecatching
footwear, or distinctive accessories. These items
can transform even the simplest outfits into something
extraordinary.
Fit is everything in
fashion. No matter
how bold your outfit
is, it won’t look good if
it doesn’t fit properly.
Investing in tailoring
can elevate your
style significantly.
Well-fitted clothing
enhances your
silhouette and makes
you look polished
and put together.
Don’t hesitate to get
your favourite pieces
tailored to ensure
they flatter your body
shape.

Accessories
Accessories are a powerful way to express
your style without overwhelming your outfit.
From statement watches and bracelets to hats
and sunglasses, the right accessories can add
personality and flair.
Embrace Color
and Patterns
One of the easiest ways
to make a bold fashion
statement is to embrace
colour. Don’t shy away from
vibrant hues and striking
patterns. Whether it’s a
bright blazer, a patterned
shirt, or even colourful
sneakers, incorporating
bold colours into your
wardrobe can instantly
elevate your look. Colours
are not just for women even
men need to understand
the concept of infusing
colours into their looks.
Mix and Match
Gone are the days of matching
everything perfectly. Mixing patterns
and textures can create a
dynamic look that captures
attention. Always
understand the basis for
any colour combinations
and style blends. For
example, stripes go well
with plain pants and vice
versa. The key is to find
common colours or
complementary
shades that tie the
outfit together. This
always showcases
creativity without
doing too much.

Spring 2025
Ready-To-Wear
Collection
The Louis Vuitton Spring
2025 Ready-To-Wear
Collection embodies
the essence of modern
sophistication and luxurious
minimalism. Creative director
Nicolas Ghesquière seamlessly
blends traditional craftsmanship
with futuristic elements, resulting
in a collection that is both
timeless and avant-garde.
Ghesquière was off on yet
another time-travel adventure,
this time to the Renaissance,
a time he claimed to have a
personal connection to because
he grew up in the Loire Valley
of France, home to numerous
centuries-old chateaux. Biker
shorts and clunky leather
sandals took the collection’s
opening group of jackets—all
puffy sleeves, drawn-in waists,
and peplum hems—back to the
present day. The flexible design
of what were once extremely
bulky coats also did this.
Overall, the Louis Vuitton
Spring 2025 Ready-To-Wear

balance between innovation
and tradition, setting the tone
for what’s to come in the fashion

Mo
Abudu’s
Legacy in African
Entertainment
By Martina Akonthe
The Nigerian entertainment industry has continued
to thrive in various aspects because of the legacies
women such as Mo Abudu have built over the years.
Mo Abudu is one of Nigeria’s media moguls and
philanthropists who have continued to pave the way
for the continuous success of African entertainment in the
international global scene.

Personal Life and
Education
Mosunmola Abudu, better known as
Mo Abudu, was born in Hammersmith,
West London, United Kingdom, on
September 11, 1964.
She is the eldest of three sisters. At
the age of seven, Mo’s family moved to
Lagos, Nigeria. She was, however, sent to
live with her grandparents on their cocoa
farm in south-west Ondo State. She was
enrolled at Fiwasaye Girls Grammar
School. Mo Abudu lost her father, who
was an engineer at the age of eleven.
Shortly after his passing, Mo Abudu
returned to London, where she attended
Hammersmith County Secondary School
before transferring to Ridgeway School in
Kent, where she lived with her guardian
in Tunbridge Wells. She later pursued
further studies at West Kent College and
MidKent College. She proceeded to
the University of Westminster in London,
where she bagged a master’s degree in
human resource management.
Mo was formally married to Tokunbo
Abudu, with whom she shares two
children—daughter Temidayo and son
Adekoyejo.
Mo Abudu’s Legacy in
African Entertainment
When we list the female forces to
reckon with in the entertainment industry
in Africa, Mo Abudu comes top on
the list. Having thrived in her career in
human resources from 1987 in the UK
to the 2000s in Nigeria, Mo Abudu has
an overhaul by venturing into the media
world. She became a catalyst needed
for Africa to be heard, known, seen, and
consequently put on the entertainment
map.
Mo Abudu began her media
journey by founding Inspire Africa, an
entertainment company aimed at
inspiring, educating, motivating, and
entertaining audiences. Its flagship
initiative was Moments with Mo, Africa’s
first syndicated talk show, both hosted
and produced by Abudu. Launched in
2006, the show expanded its reach
with several spin-offs, including
Moments Z and localised versions in
Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and South
Africa.
As she thrived in the entertainment
world, Mo had a bigger vision to
unite Africans through a pan-African
platform. Out of necessity, in July
2013, Mo Abudu launched on
Multichoice (DStv), Africa’s first global
black entertainment and lifestyle
network, EbonyLife TV, to connect
and create a more positive narrative
around Africa.
Being a woman who knows no
boundary when it comes to breaking
the statue quo, Mo Abudu took
the bull by the horn by venturing
into filmmaking with the creation of
EbonyLife Films in 2014. She executive
produced Fifty, The Wedding Party,
Chief Daddy, The Royal Hibiscus Hotel
in 2018, and Your Excellency in 2019.
Among her notable works is Òlòtoré,
a gripping feature film that sheds light
on the dark world of human trafficking
in Nigeria.
Mo’s success was seen by
international conglomerates who
yearned to be part of the success
hovering over Africa. The likes of Sony
Pictures Television (SPT), AMC Networks
(USA), Netflix, Sony Pictures, Westbrook
Studios, and Will Packer Productions
have partnered with EbonyLife Films
and EbonyLife Media to co-produce
movies, series, and upcoming
biography to showcase Africa and its
rich and untold history to the world.
As the international deals continue
to reel in, British Broadcasting
Corporation (BBC) Studios recently
inked a deal with EbonyLife Media to
develop a six-part action-adventure
heist series titled Reclaim. In addition,
EbonyLife has partnered with Starz,
Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Yetide
Badaki, and Lionsgate TV to coproduce
a drama centred on Queen
Nzinga, the 17th-century African
warrior queen.

Beyond the spotlight
Beyond the spotlight, Mo has

and Western Africa. She has proven
beyond reasonable doubt that while
she nurtured her dreams to change
the narrative of Africa through the
media, she acquired the necessary
skills.

feature, ‘Fifty’, guided her storytelling
process as an executive producer.
In 2017, she took a step further
in her career after she
attended the London Film
School and completed
the course in directing. In
2022, she solely directed
two short films: Her Perfect
Life and Iyawo Mi (My

A visionary
businesswoman
Mo Abudu has
continued to prove
herself as the CEO
with the capability to

by helping them to
achieve their dreams.
Through her parent
company, ‘EbonyLife

the Lagos State Government,
the 5th largest economy in
Africa, to launch the EbonyLife
Creative Academy (ELCA). With the
help of professionals, the Academy
enhances its students with courses in
all areas of filmmaking and media
content production to make them
globally competitive.
She also founded the Vic Lawrence
& Associates (VLA) Human Resources
firm during her first career. She also
conceptualised and developed the
Protea Hotel, Oakwood Park, among other
businesses.

The Essential
Makeup
Products
Every Beginner
Should Have
By Oma Damian
Embarking on your
makeup journey
can be exciting yet
overwhelming. With so many
products on the market, it’s
easy to feel lost in the beauty
aisle, unsure of where to start.
But don’t worry—I’ve compiled
a list of essential makeup
products that every beginner
should have in their beauty
arsenal. These basics will help
you create a polished look,
experiment with different
styles, and build a solid
foundation for your makeup
routine. Let’s dive in.
1 Primer
A primer is an excellent way to prep
your skin and create a smooth
base for makeup. It fills in
pores, reduces fine lines, and helps
your makeup last longer. Look for
a primer that suits your skin type—
hydrating for dry skin, mattifying
for oily skin, or blurring for those
who want a smoother texture.
23
Concealer
A concealer is a magic wand that
covers blemishes, redness, and
dark circles. For beginners, a
medium-coverage concealer
that can be built up is ideal. Look
for a shade that’s a close match
to your skin tone for blemishes
and a slightly lighter one for
under the eyes.
24
www.glamsquadmagazine.com
BEAUTY
3
4
Setting Powder
or Setting Spray
Once you’ve applied your
base, you’ll want to set it in
place. Setting powder is great
for mattifying your look and
controlling shine, while a setting
spray can lock in moisture and
create a dewy finish. If you have
dry skin, opt for the spray; for oily
skin, powder is your best friend.
4
Lipstick or
Lip Gloss
Lips are the final
touch to any makeup
look. A nude or pink
lipstick is a great
starting point for a
natural look, while a
classic red can make
a bold statement.
Lip glosses are also
perfect for a
hint of colour and
shine without the
commitment of
lipstick.
www.glamsquadmagazine.com 25
BEAUTY
Makeup Brushes
and Sponges
Having the right tools is
essential for a seamless
application. A few key
brushes (foundation, blush,
eyeshadow) and a makeup
sponge will help you achieve
a flawless finish. Many
affordable and high-quality
brush sets are available for
beginners
5
6
Blush and
Bronzer
8
Blush adds a
healthy, natural
glow, while
bronzer gives
warmth and
dimension to your
face. For beginners,
powder blush and bronzer
are the easiest to work with.
Start with a soft, natural shade
for blush and a light, buildable
bronzer that won’t look too
intense on the skin.
7
Eyebrow
Pencil or Gel
Defined eyebrows frame your face
and bring your look together. An
eyebrow pencil is perfect for filling in
sparse areas, while a brow gel helps
keep them in place all day. Choose
a colour close to your natural brow
shade for a natural look.
Mascara
Mascara is a must-have for making your
eyes pop. It lengthens, volumizes, and adds
definition to your lashes, creating a more
awake, polished look. Black or dark brown
mascara is great for most people, but if
you have very fair lashes, consider a brown
shade for a softer effect.
26

BEAUTY
10
Foundation
or Tinted
Moisturizer
9
The foundation is key to
creating an even complexion,
but choosing the right
one can be tricky. Start by
selecting a foundation that
matches your skin tone and
type. If you prefer a lighter,
more natural look, consider a
tinted moisturizer or BB cream
instead, which gives coverage
while hydrating your skin.
Eyeshadow
Palette
A basic eyeshadow palette with
neutral shades is ideal for beginners.
Look for a palette with a mix of matte
and shimmer shades to experiment
with different eye looks, from natural
to smokey. Warm browns, taupes, and
subtle shimmers are versatile for any
occasion.

street style agree: woven bags are in.
A large tote bag or a woven crossbody
bag adds an earthy element to your
outfit and is functional for carrying
beach essentials. Look for a bag with
plenty of room, and consider one with a
zipper or clasp to keep things secure.
Wide-Legged
Trousers and
Swim Tops
Wide-legged trousers are perfect for
a sophisticated beach outfit. Choose
lightweight, airy fabrics and pair them with
your favourite bikini or swimsuit top. This
look is effortlessly chic, making it perfect for
beachside cafés or sunset strolls. Add in a
statement belt or a few layered necklaces to
elevate the outfit even more.

High-waisted shorts
and Crop Tops
High-waisted shorts are a classic
street-style piece that also fits
perfectly in a beach setting. Pair them
with a crop top, and you’ve got a
comfortable, stylish look that’s easy
to move around in. Denim shorts offer
a laid-back vibe, while linen or knit
shorts give a softer, more summery
feel. Complete the look with strappy
sandals and a woven beach bag for
an effortlessly cool beach look.
Sheer Dresses
and Sarongs
Sheer dresses have become
a popular street style trend,
and they’re an ideal way to
showcase your swimsuit while
still keeping covered. Choose
a maxi or midi-length sheer
dress in neutral or beachy
colours like sand, seafoam
green, or coral. Sarongs are
another versatile choice—you
can tie them as a skirt, dress,
or even a halter top for a truly
customized look.
Oversized Button-
Down Shirts as
Cover-Ups
Effortlessly stylish and
practical, oversized
button-down shirts are
a staple in street style.
They work just as well on the
beach as they do in the city.
Choose one in a lightweight,
breathable fabric like cotton
or linen, and throw it over
your swimsuit. Leave it
unbuttoned for a casual vibe
or tie it at the waist for a more
fitted look. White, pastel
shades or even bold prints
work beautifully against the
sandy backdrop.

THE LA PEREGRINE
DIAMOND AND
PEARL NECKLACE
PEARLS:
PIECING TOGETHER
THE IMAGES THAT
INFLUENCED MO
ABUDU’S 60TH
BIRTHDAY SHOOT
By Davina Ayodele
There is nothing more awe
inducing than a strand
or stack of pearls nestled
between the collarbones
of an iconic woman.
From time immemorial, the
little white orbs have adorned
the heads, necks and ears
of queens and women of
substance the world over and
our cover star Mo Abudu is
definitely no stranger to this
category.
On the occasion of her
60th birthday, Mo Abudu has
released images that point us
towards history, art, and the
opulence of eras gone by. Every
element of her look is a nod to
her predecessors with whom
she proudly stands shoulder to
shoulder as she marks her place
in the hall of fame.
The sultry way in which her
hair is piled upon her head a la
Elizabeth Taylor, the rich shower
of pearls on her neck and ears
hark back to the time when
Richard Burton splashed $37,000
to adorn the great Liz in the “
La Peregrina” a stunning pear
shaped pearl of unrivaled value.
Mo’s makeup for this 60th
birthday shoot also features bold
brows and generous lashings
of dark eyeliner a la Elizabeth
Taylor!

It is safe to say that Mo is an
adoring fan of the queen of old
Hollywood glam. We love how
she recreated the iconic dress
from the portrait photos that
the great photographer Phillipe
Halsman took of Elizabeth in 1948
when she was only 16 years old
on the cusp of immense fame
and fortune.
The similarities of how the light
olive dress with rows of gathers
running down the sides from the
Halsman shoot was recreated for
Mo show how much detail went
into the curation of her outfits.
It is worthy of note that it was
done in a manner that let her put
her unique twist on it. Imitation,
they say, is the sincerest form of
flattery and from the themes and
tone of this 60th birthday shoot,
Mo has shown us who her idols
are.
From the muted elegance
of Audrey Hepburn to the
feisty Coco Chanel who rightly
claimed that a woman must
have “ropes and ropes of pearls”
, Mo Abudu has cemented her
place rightfully in the long line
of queens who ruled entire
industries the same way she
sits atop a media empire that
measures its influence on a
global scale.
Mo reminds us that the gilded
age of the silver screen will never
be over and she is the nubian
queen currently sitting atop its
revered throne.
