clients that we coach. It is a fine balance to combine schooling
horses with trading horses and competing at the highest level of
the sport while also coaching clients. It is something we are very
proud of. We’ve been able to turn our hobbies into our livelihood,
we are very fortunate really to have managed that together.”
Eye for detail
The stables of Van Asten-Nyberg Equestrian are always in tiptop
shape. We try to have the horses in the best shape possible
as well. One of the cornerstones of our business is that we take
great care of the training process of the horses. Starting with the
young ones and building them up gradually. We breed on a small
scale and also buy youngsters from other breeders or stables
when they are mostly 5 or 6 years old. But no matter how old
a horse is, the strategy you apply and the way you work with
them is what makes the difference. Having a hands-on approach
and communicating with the staff about them keeps you on top
of things. Everyone knows that with horses, there are ups and
downs, but at the moment we are very lucky to have a good
thing going.”

shows great promise for the future after placing in 1.50m/1.55m
Grand Prix's this fall. We are very grateful to be able to continue

For Mathijs it has always been his aim to continue to compete at
the highest level of the sport. “There have been periods when
we had to focus on building the business and the sport did not
take precedent. Kristin has always supported me by contributing
a lot when it comes to the coaching and day-to-day management
of the stable. Thanks to a fantastic partnership we’ve been able
to invest in two horses, Cassina Dior and Sirocco together with
the Backsell family. Sirocco has been part of many highlights this
summer. Winning the Wim van der Leegte CSI3* Grand Prix in
EIndhoven was amazing. He and I have also represented the
Dutch at several Nations Cups for example at CHIO Aachen. And
Next to top sport Mathijs and Kristin are also fortunate to coach
very motivated riders. Some for shorter and others for longer
periods of time. They originate from all over the world, such as
Canada and Qatar. “For example, we’ve been working together
with American rider Vani Khosla for a few years now. She has
been developing really well and is rising the ranks with several
horses. To be a part of her journey is very motivating. At the
moment we are very happy with the people we have around us
and are glad to be working with such a fantastic group. It makes
having a company that much more rewarding, to share the joys
of all the efforts and celebrate the successes together with likeminded
equestrians.”
