Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 election will make him the 47th president of the United States—and

only the second President ever to serve two nonconsecutive terms. The Republican also served as the 45th

president of the United States from 2017 to 2021.

The win comes two years after he announced his run for re-election, after the 2022 midterms, when

Republicans regained control of the U.S. House of Representatives. “America’s comeback starts right now,”

the real estate mogul and reality TV star told the audience on Nov. 15, 2022, at his Palm Beach, Fla.,

private club Mar-a-Lago. Trump, who tried to overturn the results of the 2020 election and has refused to

acknowledge he lost that contest, referred to his time out of office as just a “pause.”

Read more: Trump’s 2024 Announcement Makes Clear He Has No Idea Why He Lost

Trump is not the first President to launch a comeback campaign. A handful of presidents tried to get back

into the White House and failed. Some examples include Martin Van Buren in 1844 and 1848;

Millard Fillmore in 1856; Ulysses S. Grant in 1880, in the era before term limits and four years after serving

a second term; and Teddy Roosevelt in 1912, with the third-party Progressive Party, after losing the

Republican nomination.

But Democrat Grover Cleveland has been, so far, the only president to actually serve nonconsecutive terms,

from 1885 to 1889 and from 1893 to 1897, according to the University of Virginia’s Miller Center, which

specializes in presidential scholarship. Both were first defeated in their bids for a second consecutive term,

and historians say that Trump faced a tougher political environment when mounting his comeback than

Cleveland did.

Stephen “Grover” Cleveland—also known as “Big Steve” and “Uncle Jumbo”—wasn’t planning on running

again as soon as he left office. He lost the 1888 presidential election to Republican Benjamin Harrison

amid allegations of voting irregularities—and despite winning the popular vote.

According to Louis Picone, author of Grant’s Tomb and spokesperson for the Grover Cleveland Presidential

Library in New Jersey, Cleveland enjoyed fishing at his house in Cape Cod and spending time with his new

wife and his daughter Ruth.

Similar to Trump, Cleveland made his decision to run again after the midterm elections. He saw an opening

after what Picone describes as a “bloodbath” for Republicans. Supporters of Cleveland started encouraging

him to run after the 1890 midterms, which they viewed as a repudiation of President Harrison.

By contrast, the 2022 election “really wasn’t this ‘Red Wave’ that was predicted,” Picone says. Many

have viewed that election as a repudiation of Trump-backed Republican nominees.

Congress under the Harrison Administration was nicknamed the “billion dollar Congress” because it was

the first time that a billion dollars in federal dollars was spent. Cleveland was a fiscal conservative, dedicated

to lowering tariffs, solidifying the gold standard, and reducing public spending. During the Gilded

Age, when corruption in politics was rampant, Cleveland had the reputation of representing honesty in

politics.

Cleveland didn’t have to campaign very hard, easily winning his party’s nomination. Backlash to high

tariff policies and a wave of violent labor strikes at silver mines in the summer of 1892 made voters think

Harrison didn’t have enough of a handle on economic policy.

However, he didn’t have an easy time of it when he was back in office. The Panic of 1893—the worst

economic depression America faced at that point—colored his legacy. But towards the end of his life, “he

regained stature as an elder statesman and a throwback to an earlier time,” says Picone.

Whether Trump is able to follow Cleveland’s success in 2024 remains to be seen—but he faces substantial

political headwinds at the moment. Cleveland was broadly welcomed back by the Democratic Party, and

was thought to be the most electable candidate.

Despite this history, there is no precedent for the kind of comeback Trump represents—not least because

he is also the first former President to become a convicted felon. At Trump’s victory party, his Vice President-elect

J.D. Vance declared, “We just witnessed the greatest political comeback in American history.”

According to the CDC, approximately 71 million American adults

have elevated levels of LDL (‘bad cholesterol’). High LDL

cholesterol is one factor that may increase risk for heart disease.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S. and

accounts for about 600,000 deaths each year according to the

national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Other

factors that raise the risk of heart disease include older age,

diabetes, a family history of heart disease, high blood pressure,

lack of exercise, obesity, or are a smoker. Often when all these

factors are taken into considerations physicians may prescribe

statin drugs. The use of statin drugs has increased sharply in the

past several years and they are now among the most widely

prescribed medicines in the U. S. According to the National

Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 22% of Americans 45

years and older take a statin drug and as a class, statins and their

related combination products generated $16.9 billion in U. S.

sales in 2012.

While they are quite popular, many people experience one or more of the

following side effects:

FACTS

High Blood Pressure (BP) is often referred to as the “Silent Killer”

because you may feel fine, but it quickly sneaks up on you,

damaging your blood vessels without causing pain until it’s too late.

This disaster strikes in the form of a weakened heart, kidney, and

circulation problems that can wreak havoc in your heart, brain and

eyes.1

Elevated blood pressure (BP) or hypertension is a major risk factor

for a heart attack or stroke. It is generally regarded as the number

one most significant risk factor for stroke. More than 70 million

Americans (1 in 3) have high BP, including more than half (54.3%) of

all Americans 65 to 74 years of age and almost three-quarters (71.8%)

of all African Americans in the same age group.2 Of all the people

who have high Blood Pressure only about one half have it under

control.

ARE DRUGS THE ANSWER?

Drugs to lower BP are among the most commonly prescribed medicines in

the U.S. More than 678 million BP prescriptions were filled in 2010. All the

current classes of drugs possess significant side effects. One such study was

published in the esteemed journal, STROKE, shows that Blood Pressure

medications increased the risk of stroke by 248%. Another interesting fact –

the risk of stroke went up 33% with each additional Blood Pressure medicine

used.2

HIGH FIBER, NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT

FOR COLON HEALTH

Many health professionals agree that most, if not all, major diseases start

in the colon. As we look back through a half century of Medical History, we

find that the so-called killer diseases of the day were the result of

infectious diseases such as diptheria, measles, polio, tuberculosis,

pneumonia, hepatitis and many varieties of chronic sepsis. No longer are

these the major health hazards.

The current major killer diseases are noninfectious rather than infectious,

with coronary heart disease (CHD), diverticular disease of the colon (DD),

large bowel cancer, lung tumors, gallstones, varicose veins, obesity and

diabetes listed as today's most troubling health problems.

All of these diseases have been related to diets which are characteristic of

economically developed countries. These countries have moved to a diet

low in starch and fiber and high in fat, sugar and highly refined foods. As

an example, in third world countries, some 70% of the body's energy is

provided by starch carbohydrates, food retaining its natural complement

of fiber. In these countries, fat provides only 10 -15% of the energy and

protein and is mostly of vegetable origin. In affluent societies, however, a

little over 40% of the body's energy is derived from carbohydrates and

approximately half of this is from sugar.

Fiber in the diet influences every stage of food consumption and

digestion. The removal of fiber from food reduces the necessity for

chewing and, thus, increases the rate of energy uptake. The sense of

satiety relative to energy consumption is reduced and, along with it, the

predisposition to over-nutrition with resultant obesity. The energy from

fiber rich foods is absorbed from the bowel more slowly. Some studies

have cited this reduced rate of energy absorption as a protection against

diabetes.

Chronic negative stress triggers extensive changes in the

burden is substantial, with an estimated 75-90% of

primary care visits linked to stress effects. Stress also

accelerates aging by shortening telomeres, the DNA

the body's homeostasis, harmful effects can persist long

after the stressful situation ends, leading to conditions

such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and

cognitive impairments.

that assist your body in coping with anxiety, stress, fatigue by

adapting to what your body needs. For example, if you’re stressed

(elevated cortisol), an adaptogen will respond by reducing cortisol

levels. If you experience chronic fatigue with low cortisol levels, an

adaptogen will increase the level of cortisol in your body. In other

words, Adaptogens bring your body back to a steady balance by

managing both physical and mental stressors to bring you back
