Day 1
MORNING
Your adventure begins at the Tipsy Egg
in Downtown Chandler. Dine al fresco
on the covered patio or at the cool,
open-air bar (don’t worry, there’s indoor
seating, as well), where you can fuel up on
traditional—and some untraditional—egg
dishes. Pair your feast with a refreshing
glass of juice or a fun mocktail to kickstart
your day.
After breakfast, you’re ready to see the
sights. But first, coffee. Stroll over to
Peixoto Coffee, where you can grab
@micdropmania_az
an espresso, Americano or latte before
heading to Veterans Oasis Park for some
fresh air and stunning natural scenery. The
park offers walking trails, a fishing lake,
and horse trails, making it an ideal spot for
a morning stroll and some bird-watching.
AFTERNOON
For lunch, grab a seat at Parlay Kitchen
+ Cocktails. The bright, airy restaurant
offers salads, sandwiches and burgers, as
well as a variety of shareables including
baked pretzels with cheese fondue,
and bruschetta boards. The relaxed
atmosphere and delicious menu make it a
great spot to refuel for the afternoon.
Next, explore the Chandler Museum,
for traveling exhibitions and artifacts,
photographs and artwork that tell the city's
story; or the Arizona Railway Museum,
where you can step inside vintage train cars
and learn about Arizona’s rich railroad history.
EVENING
As night falls, head over to Cooper’s
Hawk Winery & Restaurant for an upscale
evening out. Inspired by tasting rooms in
the Napa Valley, the restaurant offers an
expansive wine collection and a full-scale
bar and restaurant serving prime steaks and
chops, fresh seafood and hearty pastas.
End dinner on a sweet note with a decadent
dessert.
Cap your evening with live entertainment.
At Chandler Center for the Arts, you
can take in a music concert, theatre
production or dance performance. If
you’re in the mood for some side-splitting
laughs, catch a show at Mic Drop Mania,
which offers a full lineup of standup acts
by local and national comedians.
Day 2
Tipsy Egg
MORNING
Kick-start your day with an early morning
adventure soaring over the desert –
sightseeing from hundreds of feet in the
air with a hot air balloon experience.
Rainbow Ryders, offers daily sunrise
flights that are a perfect fit for this bucketlist
activity that lasts about 3.5 hours from
start to finish.
Continue your morning with a classic
American breakfast at Chase’s Diner. This
retro-style diner serves up delicious dishes
like waffles, pancakes, and bacon and
eggs, as well as the Mighty Superstition,
a giant buttermilk pancake covered with
hash browns, gravy, bacon and cheese.
After breakfast, get in a few steps at Paseo
Vista Recreation Area. The park’s curved
walking path offers 360-degree views
of the East Valley, as well as access to the
6.5-mile Paseo Trail, perfect for walking,
jogging and bicycling.
AFTERNOON
It’s lunchtime and that can only mean one
thing: sandwiches. But we’re not talking
about just any sandwich—we’re talking
about Lee’s Sandwiches. A Chandler
institution, this family-owned shop offers
traditional Vietnamese banh mi, as well as
Euro-style sandwiches and pastries.
Spend the rest of your afternoon at
Chandler Fashion Center, home to
more than 180 retailers. From Apple
and lululemon, to Urban Outfitters and
Anthropologie, you’re guaranteed to find
your new favorite thing. For the ultimate
shopping experience, stop in at SCHEELS,
where you can ride a Ferris wheel, play
arcade games, and let loose in a fullystocked
candy store.
EVENING
When dinner calls, make your way to
SanTan Brewing Company. Enjoy a craft
beer flight paired with famous pub fare,
including burgers, sandwiches and salads.
Then head to The Screamery for a sweet
treat. This dessert spot offers a variety of
ice cream creations, perfect for cooling
down after a day of fun.
End your 48-hour adventure with a
nightcap at Maple House. This bar and
coffee shop—set in a historic 1940s
home—is the perfect place to unwind
with a refreshing cocktail, a light wine
or an after-dinner coffee in a laid-back
atmosphere.

Thanks to its diverse and abundant range of bird species, Chandler
attracts bird watchers from around the globe. If you have an
appreciation for our winged friends, there are a number of places
where you can spot local and migratory birds found in the area.
A favorite place among bird watchers is Veterans Oasis Park,

first Saturday of the month from November through April. These
walks begin every 30 minutes, from 8 a.m. until noon, and last

WHERE CITY

For those seeking a true desert adventure, you don’t need to
leave the city to experience this unique landscape filled with
otherworldly plants and fascinating animals. At Veterans
Oasis Park, you can encounter a variety of native flora, from
palo verde trees to desert marigolds. You also can get up
close with the iconic saguaro cactus, the quintessential
symbol of the desert found only in the desert southwest.
The park also is home to a wide range of wildlife, including
rabbits, squirrels, lizards and snakes, as well as more than 150
bird species.
Other Chandler parks, like Paseo Vista Recreation Area,
also offer access to hiking trails. Nearby, South Mountain
Park and San Tan Regional Park have hiking and mountain
biking trails that immerse you in the Sonoran Desert—and
reward you with some pretty awesome views of the area.

GET OUTSIDE
On horseback
Experience the
Sonoran Desert
the way Chandler’s
earliest residents did:
on horseback. KOLI
Equestrian Center
invites guests to ride
side-by-side (instead
of nose-to-tail) through
the Gila River Indian
Reservation. Along the
way, tribe members
share stories of their
native lands, teach
about local plants and
point out desert animals,
including wild horses.
On water
For a different perspective of
the Sonoran Desert, take a
narrated cruise of Canyon Lake
on the Dolly Steamboat. The
1.5-hour cruise passes striking
rock formations, saguaro cacti
and desert wildlife, including
big horn sheep on the lake’s
steep rock walls. Twilight dinner
and astronomy dinner cruises
let you see Canyon Lake and the
surrounding desert in, literally, a
different light.

In sneakers
You don’t have to leave the pavement to
explore the Sonoran Desert. Veterans Oasis
Park has a paved walk around its five-acre lake,
as well as more than four miles of easy-to-walk
trails. Paseo Vista Recreation Area’s walking
trails connect to the Paseo Trail, a 6.5-mile
path along the Consolidated Canal.

Want to cover more ground while in the Sonoran
Desert? You can bike along the trails at South
Mountain Park and San Tan Regional Park instead
of hiking them. Don’t have a mountain bike? No
problem. AZ Bike Rentals in Chandler rents
mountain bikes, while Cactus Adventures leads
guided rides (bikes and all gear provided) through
South Mountain Park.
In hiking boots
Leave the city behind and hit the trails at South
Mountain Park for a deeper look at the Sonoran
Desert. The park has more than 50 miles of hiking
trails, ranging from the one-mile Kiwanis Trail to
the more challenging Telegraph Pass and National
trails. At San Tan Regional Park, the Moonlight Trail
provides a short, easy trek. If you’re up for more of a
challenge, try the 6.4-mile San Tan Trail, which takes
you through a large part of the 10,000-acre park.

HIT THE LINKS
More than a century ago, the state’s very first grass links course
opened in Chandler, and today, the community continues to be an
attractive destination for golf. Whether you’re looking for a great
game while visiting or to catch a quick round on a challenging
executive course – Chandler has several courses you won’t want
to miss.
Although it wasn’t the first golf course in Arizona, the 18-hole, par
72 course at the San Marcos Golf Course was the first to feature
grass—instead of sand—fairways when it opened in 1913. Play here
is straightforward yet requires some skill to navigate an average of
three bunkers per hole plus the occasional water hazard. And it’s
all located steps away from a vast array of dining and entertainment
options in Downtown Chandler.
For a more challenging round, make your way to south Chandler
and the lush fairways of Ocotillo Golf Club. The Ted Robinsondesigned
courses is one of the Valley’s “Three Must-Play” courses
along with Troon North Golf Club and The Boulders Golf Club.
You’ll understand why after you play. The course requires skillful
ball placement to avoid the water hazards you’ll encounter on 24
of the course’s 27 holes but rewards with cascading waterfalls and
colorful flower beds.
To the east, find the popular Bear Creek Golf Complex with its
championship-length Bear Course and the much shorter Cub
Course. The 71-par Bear Course, with its rolling fairways and
strategic bunkering, is designed for seasoned golfers while the
59-par Cub Course is ideal for beginners, families, and executives
looking for a quick round. (It has only five par 4s; the remaining
holes are all par 3s.)
Although it’s located in a gated community, the 18-hole
championship course at Ironwood Golf Club is open to the public
and offers exciting play for golfers of all skill levels. Beginners
will appreciate that it’s a shorter course at 5,500 yards, but
experienced golfers can sharpen their game on the seven par 3s
and on the water hazards that come into play on five holes.
Lone Tree Golf Club features an 18-hole, par-71 course is
straightforward with no frills, making it a great option for
beginners, as well as experienced golfers. From the back tee, the
Lone Tree Golf Club course stretches 6,984 yards, and along the
way, you’ll face water hazards, including a waterfall.
A little further south, Springfield Golf Resort offers a short, par-61
game you can finish in under 3½ hours. The fairways on the 18-hole
course are wide and forgiving, again making it a good option for
beginners as well as younger and older players.
