PRESIDENT’S REPORT EXCITING TIMES AT CANTERBURY WHEn you last received our Journal, there was an air of anticipation around Canterbury and the local community with the Bulldogs just a few games short of our first NRL final series since 2009. While 2012 was a spectacular and exciting breakout year for the Bulldogs, their players and coaching staff, the Grand Final ball did not bounce our way and the relentless Melbourne Storm were able to get their hands on the ultimate prize in rugby league. Not the end we hoped for but something to be enormously proud of and one which bodes well for 2013 and beyond. On behalf of everyone at Canterbury, we congratulate the Bulldogs and wish them well with their pre-season preparations. While the rugby league season has come to an end for the Bulldogs, it is far from over for Canterbury with summer and Christmas shaping up as the best time ever to enjoy the benefits of your membership here at Canterbury. In early December 2012, we will open “Galaxy” which is our new kid’s play area in The Banyan. This state-of-the-art play area has been designed around a space theme and will provide our kids with their own fun and exciting play area. I am sure it’s going to enhance the dining experience in The Banyan and will be an enormous hit with both kids and their parents. This year we are also celebrating Christmas bigger and better than ever, highlighted by a dazzling lighting display and an 11 metre tall Christmas tree in front of the Club. It’s truly spectacular and I encourage you to come down and check it out once the sun goes down. There’s plenty happening inside the Club too including visits from Santa Claus throughout December. December is also membership renewal time and this year, as an added bonus, you will have a chance to win up to $10,000 in cash if you renew your membership before 31 December 2012. So don’t delay your membership renewal if you want your chance to win some additional holiday spending money! For all those Associate Members who are also receiving this Journal, I would encourage you to upgrade your membership to become a Full Member so as to enjoy the many significant benefits, including discounts, birthday vouchers and the ability to receive this Journal every quarter (not just once a year). We have also been hard at work over recent months building a new Canterbury website which will launch about the time that you will receive this Journal. Our new website will use the latest technology and will be updated regularly to include all the latest news on our bars, restaurants, shows and general developments across our five clubs. We have also launched Facebook and Instagram pages and I would encourage you to “like” us on these platforms as well. 2013 will also see the launch of our monthly eNewsletter and you can register to receive this once our new website flies into operation. All of these initiatives are designed to make it easier for you to receive the latest news and offers here at Canterbury. For all the “health nuts” at our C-Life Health Club, please keep an eye out for your own dedicated C-Life website which we will be launching shortly. Lastly, it would be remiss of me not to extend my thanks to David McIntyre who has resigned his position with Canterbury. We have appreciated David’s efforts over the last twelve months and we wish him well in his future endeavours.
