Create a 5-Point
Twig Star
You can make a 5-point star from twigs that
you can find in your yard or neighborhood.
It’s easy and fun to do!
Here’s what you need:
• 5 slender twigs
• String (Use your own, or ask for a Create-a-Star starter kit at the Rakow Branch)
o One 12” length and four 6” lengths
Here’s what you need:
1) Find 5 slender sticks that are between 6-12 inches in length. Longer sticks can be cut to your desired
length. Ask for your adult’s help, if needed.
2) Using a 12” length of string, secure two twigs together by placing twig 2 over twig 1. The longer string
will be enough to secure the sticks and then the extra length can be tied and used as a hanger.
3) Add the twig 3 by securing it under twig 2.
4) Add twig 4 by weaving it under twig 2, over twig 1, and securing it over twig 3.
5) Add twig 5 by weaving it under twig 2, and over the other three twigs.
Your star is now complete! You can trim the string of the bottom four points of the star, and then decorate
your star further, if you’d like to. Use string, paint, glitter… use your imagination and be creative!
Email a picture of your star to naturerangers@gailborden.info
to be entered in our grand prize giveaway. Remember to include
your name and telephone number, too.
