The presence of women in leadership
positions and entrepreneurship has
brought diverse perspectives,
innovative ideas, and valuable
contributions to the business world and
the world in general.
Seeing women excel in various
industries and demonstrate their
capabilities as strong, driven, and
successful professionals inspires whole
generations to be better and do
better for the world.
For many, balancing work and family
responsibilities can be particularly
demanding. Managing a career while
nurturing a family can be
overwhelming and often requires
exceptional organizational skills,
support systems, and flexibility.
Entrepreneur N afsika Antypas is a
writer, author, executive producer,
actress, and mother of two.
"The joy of witnessing my children
grow, learn, and thrive is
immeasurable. Being a mother can
bring a sense of fulfillment, purpose,
and unconditional love. However, it
can also be physically and emotionally
demanding, requiring constant
multitasking, sacrifice, and selflessness.
"Balancing your professional
aspirations with the needs of your
children can present challenges,
including time management, guilt, and
the need for reliable childcare and
support networks," explains Nafsika.
013
EN TREPREN EURIAL BUILDIN G BLOCKS
Nafsika obtained her Bachelor of Arts from
Concordia University, majoring in English
Literature. She has also studied and earned
numerous certificates in TV productions, journalism,
languages (Italian and Spanish), and marketing.
Nafsika was raised in a Greek household in
M ontreal, Canada, and handled many operations
of her father's food business, Pilaros Inc., where she
learned from her father's entrepreneurial mindset,
which has proven very beneficial launching her
company and brand, N afsika' s Garden.
"As an entrepreneur who grew up in a family of
business-minded individuals, I share my values with
those who understand the potential of the
plant-based market. The shift towards plant-based
living is not just a trend but a growing movement
driven by ethical, environmental, and
health-conscious consumers. By aligning my
business with these values, I aim to cater to the
needs and desires of this expanding market while
making a difference in people's lives."
GROWIN G A GARDEN
Launched in 20 19, Nafsika's Garden is a pioneering
plant- based food brand that has emerged as a
leader in the industry, providing a diverse range of
delectable and nourishing plant-based products.
Committed to promoting a healthier and more
sustainable lifestyle, Nafsika's Garden aims to
redefine how society thinks about food, making
plant-based eating accessible and enjoyable for
everyone sitting at the table.
015
CULTIVATIN G HEALTH
"It is important, not only to me but to the
world, that people recognize the value in
living plant-based because it promotes
compassion and sustainability. Adopting a
plant- based lifestyle can reduce animal
suffering, preserve natural resources, and
improve our overall health. It is a powerful
way to positively impact our planet and
create a more harmonious relationship with
other living beings."
Driven by a vision to offer innovative
plant-based alternatives, Nafsika's Garden
blends culinary expertise with a genuine
commitment to sustainability.
Drawing inspiration from the renowned
M editerranean Diet , with its exceptional
health benefits and robust flavours, offerings
are plant-based products that encapsulate
the essence of this vibrant cuisine.
"Nafsika's Garden has rapidly gained
popularity and earned its place on the
shelves of mainstream markets nationwide.
Our vegan cheese offerings have delighted
countless individuals who, like me, longed for
a dairy-free alternative that could truly
replicate and enhance the cheese
experience.
"Our vegan cheeses are free from dairy,
gluten, soy, and nuts, ensuring that families
with various dietary needs can enjoy them.
You can find our products at fine grocery
stores, ready to elevate your culinary
adventures."
Nafsika's Garden rapidly expanded its
reach to the United States, followed by
several European countries and the
United Arab Emirates. The brand's
expansion highlights the global demand for
high-quality plant-based offerings and
Nafsika's dedication to catering to diverse
consumers worldwide.
"The future for Nafsika's Garden is bright as
consumers realize the numerous benefits of
plant-based alternatives. With increasing
awareness about the environmental impact
of animal agriculture and the ethical
concerns associated with animal
exploitation, more individuals are seeking
dairy-free options that align with their
values.
"Nafsika's Garden, as a provider of
high-quality and delicious plant-based
alternatives, is well-positioned to meet this
demand. As the market continues to grow,
we are confident that our commitment to
innovation and sustainability will drive our
success and contribute to the positive
transformation of the food industry."
017
ON SCREEN S EVERYWHERE
Nafsika's passion for plant-based
food led her to conceptualize,
create and produce the world's first
vegan lifestyle television series,
'Plant-Based by Nafsika.'
It is a conscious lifestyle series that
spotlights experts covering different
faces of cruelty-free lifestyles -
food, nutrition, wellness, beauty,
fashion, relationships, and science.
It features renowned guests
(Katie Cleary, John Lew is,
Jane Velez- M itchell) and
nutritional gurus sharing,
incorporating and exploring the
exciting aspects of a healthy,
sustainable lifestyle.
With the first episode airing in
July 20 16, it was the first vegan
lifestyle series ever to hit
mainstream us television (A&E).
More than 70 million families
actively watched the TV show.
"I noticed there were no vegan
lifestyle shows out there and
decided that I would be the first to
do it. I wanted to change the world
through food and figured I could
get more people to switch from a
meat-eating diet to a
plant-based/ vegan lifestyle
through television."
VALUE OF SUPPORT SYSTEM S
"It's important to find a support
system that understands and
respects your choices, whether it's
family, friends, or professional
networks. Building a strong support
network and practicing self-care is
essential for maintaining a healthy
work-life balance and thriving in
both personal and professional
realms.
"Overall, being a woman in business
and a mother can present
challenges. Still, it also brings
immense joy, personal growth, and
the opportunity to positively impact
your family and the business world.
Embracing your unique experiences,
strengths, and perspectives can
empower you to navigate these
challenges and create a fulfilling
and successful life."
With such passion for life and
wellness, there is no doubt that
Nafsika Anytpas will continue to
create and launch new ventures
that celebrate and guide people to
a new way of living.

A
landmark exhibition at the
Vancouver Art Gallery marks the first
major presentation of works by
Iranian- born, Vancouver- based artist
Parviz Tanavoli in Canada. Renowned
for his unique ability to merge sculpture
and poetry, Tanavoli's exhibition will
captivate audiences and ignite a new
appreciation for his extensive
contributions to modern sculpture.
With more than 10 0 w orks spanning
six decades of Tanavoli's career,
Poets, Locks, Cages delves into the
artist's exploration of the poet, the lock
and the cage as recurring themes.
The exhibition displays the full breadth of
Tanavoli's artistic practice, focusing on
sculpture while surveying painting,
printmaking and mixed media. As one of
the foremost contemporary Iranian artists
and a highly influential Saqqakhaneh
school member, Tanavoli draws
inspiration from Iran's rich history and
cultural traditions.
023
CAPTURIN G DUALITY
Tanavoli's sculptural works symbolically
exemplify the interplay between Iran' s
pre- Islamic and Islamic cultural identities.
His ability to capture the duality of these
identities sets him apart as one of the
foremost contemporary Iranian artists who
have achieved such a remarkable feat.
Poets, Locks, Cages sheds light on this
crucial integration of sacred and secular
histories in Tanavoli's art, offering a rare
opportunity for N orth American audiences
to engage with the concept of modernism
in Iran.
"The poet is the artist's self-portrait," said
Pantea Haghighi, independent curator.
"The poet, Farhad the M ountain Carver
and the artist become interchangeable and
reincarnate as Tanavoli maneuvers through
Iran's cultural shifts over the six decades
represented in this exhibition. Tanavoli
becomes the symbol of persistence and
resistance similar to the Mountain Carver."
A highlight of the exhibition is the inclusion
of Tanavoli's rarely seen and intimate
"Wonders of the Universe" series. This
remarkable body of work consists of
lyrical paintings inspired by Vancouver' s
scenery on the unbound pages of antique
books, first discovered by the artist in a
Tehran bazaar.
025
Visitors have the privilege of experiencing
the largest selection of "Wonders of the
Universe" ever shown, marking its
first-ever presentation in Canada.
The exhibition also showcases several
antique sculptures from the artist's
collection.
"This is a highly significant exhibition,
not only for Vancouver and the
Vancouver Art Gallery, but for the world.
We are contextualizing a lifelong career
of art making and thinking," said
Anthony Kiendl, CEO and Director of
the Vancouver Art Gallery.
"This is the first time that people in
[Parviz's] adopted city of Vancouver will
get to see a comprehensive exhibition of
his work brought together in one place at
one time. We look forward to sharing it
with everyone."

Oscar and Primetime Emmy-nominated
star Jeff Goldblum performed his first
show in Canada with his band, the
M ildred Snitzer Orchestra, at the
Vogue Theatre in August.
Named after an elderly friend of
Goldblum's mother, the group has
released three albums: ' The Capitol
Studios Sessions,' ' I Shouldn' t Be Telling
You This,' and ' Plays Well w ith Others.'
The latter was released in March 20 23,
with Goldblum appearing on Late N ight
with Seth M yers and Jimmy Kimmel Live
to promote it.
Previous to performing, Goldblum has
built an extensive film resume that
includes memorable Independence Day,
The Fly, Thor: Ragnarok, and the
Wes Anderson film, Asteroid City.
033
M anual Bernaschek, founder and owner of
Show case Pianos, facilitated the delivery
of a Fazioli to Vogue Theatre for the
evening's performance.
Manuel shares, "When I received the
request to provide a piano for the evening
at the Vogue, I immediately knew that the
Fazioli F278 Concert Grand would be
perfect. It has exceptional power,
magnificent balance between the bass
and treble, extensive dynamic range and
harmonic richness. A classic instrument for
large concert halls and recording studios,
suitable both for the solo repertoire and
for performances with large orchestras.
This Fazioli has an incredible dynamic
range, which is inspiring for players."
While the legendary Fazioli Pianoforti
instruments are not usually associated with
jazz, Manuel feels that "people may have a
misconception that Fazioli pianos are only
suited for classical music! This could not be
further from the truth because it has a
crystal clear sound and perfectly even
action that all players love. Notable
musicians, like Herbie Hancock,
Brad M ehldau, and Aleph, have
performed on Fazioli's."
The evening at the Vogue Theatre was
memorable for attendees as Goldblum
chatted with the audience before the
performance.

Ubiquitous Vancouver-based hornmeister
Gabriel M ark Hasselbach was backstage
for the performance and declared, "Jeff
Goldblum honoured the world-class Fazioli
with his unique quirky stylings and deft
touch. This was most apparent when the
band broke down to a whisper, and he was
featured on delicate phrases that
underscored the vocalist and then set up
his about to burst through solo."
Juno Award winner Hasselbach is also
familiar with the Fazioli F278 and
acknowledges that "having performed on
stages throughout the world with top-flight
pianists like Jeff Lorber, Jeremy M onteiro,
and Tom Schuman of Spiro Gyra, and also
being a sound and recording engineer
myself, I understand why Fazioli the
top-shelf of the top-shelf when it comes to

energetically and more captivatingly than
other pianos, no matter the brand or
reputation."

A M EAL TO REM EM BER
The evening began with the delivery of a
' Tour of Japan' whisky flight that perfectly paired
at different points to the evening's 6-course
plant-based meal.
Iw ai M ars - M ars Shinshu is Japan's highest
whisky distillery, nestled between the Southern
and Central Alps. Their Kiichiro Iwai release takes
inspiration from American whiskies, featuring corn,
malt, and a hint of rye aged in ex-bourbon
barrels. The result is a lean and slightly sweet
whisky with notes of pear, quince, red fruits, and
vanilla. (Paired with Heirloom Tomato on Silken
Tofu with Lime Dressing and vegetarian Fish
Sauce).
Shinobu 15- Year Pure M alt - Shinobu is a
distillery located in Niigata, Japan, known for its
pristine water, rice, and sake. Their Shinobu
15-Year whisky is aged in ex-sherry and
ex-bourbon casks before a finishing touch with
Japanese Mizunara Oak, resulting in a complex
flavour profile with hints of vanilla, fresh oak,
spices, citruses, and coffee. (Sipped with Blistered
Shishito Peppers and Oyster Mushroom Skewers).
N ikka Yoichi - Yoichi Single M alt is a bold and
smoky range of single malt whiskies from Nikka's
first distillery, built in 1934. The founder chose
Yoichi in Hokkaido for its resemblance to
Scotland's environment. The malts are made using
traditional coal-fired distillation and influenced
by the sea breeze from Ishikai Bay, resulting in a
briny note. (Enjoyed with both the Agadashi Tofu
and the Dessert Course of Frozen Cucumber and
Wasabi Sorbet).

For over 13 years, Vancouver's
Luxury & Supercar event has
celebrated automotive
excellence by presenting the
finest vehicles from the past,
present, and future.
At the 20 23 edition, held at the
Richmond Olympic Oval
Riverside Place, a new UK
marque joined the main-stays -
Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti,
M cLaren, Rolls- Royce, Audi,
Land Rover, and others.
ARC is renowned for its
state-of-the-art technology
and stunning motorcycle design.
It recently made its first
US delivery - one of only two
Founder' s Signature Edition
models to be built - to
beloved Canadian personality
Ryan Reynolds, marking a
significant milestone in its journey
to conquer new frontiers.
ARC's presence in Vancouver was
more than just a coincidence; it
was a strategic choice aligned
with its commitment to
excellence.
The ARC team believed there
was no better place for ARC
Vector to make its mark than
amid a gathering of vehicles that
shared the same calibre of
distinction and innovation.
In a setting where luxury and
performance are paramount,
ARC Vector stood with the finest
automobiles ever designed.
Showcasing at Luxury & Supercar
was an opportunity to reveal
ARC's remarkable fusion of
cutting- edge technology,
breathtaking design, and
unparalleled performance to an
audience that truly understood
and appreciated the artistry and
engineering behind each vehicle.
055
For a single day, the team was able to forge
connections, inspire enthusiasts, and share the
ARC vision for the future of electric
motorcycles. It was a momentous occasion,
and being in Vancouver, surrounded by the
best in the industry, felt like the perfect stage
to highlight what sets Arc apart.
THE FUTURE IS ELECTRIC
The Arc Vector is not only the most advanced
electric motorcycle ever brought to market; it
is a bike that utilizes exotic materials,
thoroughbred componentry, cutting-edge
architecture and technological innovations
that have never been applied to two-wheeled
transport before.
The revolutionary modular battery monocoque
is a legacy-free platform. ARC Vector features
patented front-end geometry, carbon fibre
swingarms, custom Öhlins dampers and
Brembo Stylema brake system. Releasing the
design process from the necessity to
incorporate cross-vehicle architecture
maximizes its true potential. Replacing the
traditional chassis with the battery facilitates
the Vector's class-leading range and
performance bike mass figures, delivering a
dynamic experience often lost with electric
vehicles, especially motorcycles.
The 240 kg electric bike has a 16.8kWh Li-ion
battery with a NEDC range of 436km. The 95
kW/ 127hp electric motor takes the motorbike
from 0 -10 0 kph in 3.2a and reaches an
electronically-limited top speed of 20 0 kph.
FORGIN G A N EW PATH
Non-conformist mavericks create ARC
motorcycles for spirited and eco-conscious
individuals.
Designed and built by a team of visionary
engineering specialists led by founder and
CEO M ark Truman, the Vector unites
world-first technology, best-in-class
performance and quality, and a level of
exclusivity that will make this one of the most
lusted-after EVs ever to enter production.
"We love journeys and experiences, some of us
like travelling quickly, some are more
methodical and technical. But we hold one
thing in common - attitude. To unselfishly do
the best that can be done with the technology
and materials around us. It is this attitude
which when pulled together makes Arc such a
special business, and in turn, makes special
vehicles," shares Truman.
We were thrilled for the ARC Vector to be at
the Luxury & Supercar grand event because it
showcased a sustainable and breathtakingly
exciting future of mobility.

when filtered through his insightful
mind and fertile imagination, gave
birth to a singular architecture that
is in dialogue with the world.
Erickson studied at the UBC and
later at M cGill University in
M ontreal, QC. Advanced studies
brought Erickson to Greece, Italy,
the M iddle East and Japan, where
he discovered the nuances of
architectural style in climate and
terrain.
065
In 1963, Erickson reached a landmark
moment in his career when he won a
competition to design SFU in Burnaby.
Upon the University's completion,
Erickson's integrative design gained
international acclaim, opening the
gateway to a long and distinguished
career.
Arthur Erickson is undoubtedly one of
the most famous architects from
Vancouver, having designed some
iconic buildings and structures, including
the Canadian Embassy in Washington,
DC, the M useum of Glass in Tacoma,
WA, and Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto,
ON .
067
AN IN CREDIBLE PARTN ERSHIP
Of significant influence on the
Eppich House II design was a woman
named Cornelia Hahn Oberlander
(1921-20 21). She had a passion and
purpose to create environmental works
that recognized the importance of
intertwining the man-made with nature.
Oberlander was a Vancouver- based
German- born Canadian landscape
architect who blended naturalistic
designs with modernist ideals and
recognized the urgency of climate
change early, designing public spaces to
mitigate its effects.
She was one of the first women to study
at Harvard' s Graduate School of
Design, where Walter Gropius, a leader
of the Bauhaus movement , taught her. Its
modernist ethos and her upbringing gave
her a mission to improve people's lives
with public spaces nourished by nature.
With Erickson, she created some of the
most enduring and beloved public spaces
in her adopted city of Vancouver,
including Robson Square, a three-block
downtown plaza conceived and then
built between 1978 and 1983.
An oasis of green roofs, waterfalls and
hanging gardens, it descends from the
city's courthouses and government offices
and the meadow of native plants for the
M useum of Anthropology at UBC, a
Brutalist building design.

PRESERVED IN THE PAGES
In 20 19, Vancouver writer Greg Bellerby
published the essential book on this marvel of
modern architecture.
' Eppich House II: The Story of an Arthur
Erickson M asterw ork' with photography by
Erickson's nephew Geoffrey Erickson.
The book meticulously documents Erickson's
first steel residence and explores the
material's structural and aesthetic
possibilities, with curved beams, dyed
cladding, and milled furnishings designed by
Francisco Kripacz.
All features that would have been
near-impossible on a regular commission. But
after seeing the first Eppich House, built for
Hugo Eppich's twin brother Helmut, Hugo
entrusted Erickson with creating and
furnishing the entire house, inside and out.
Bellerby has been a curator and gallery
director for over thirty years, producing many
exhibitions and publications on visual art,
architecture, and design.
He was the commissioner and co-curator of
the Canadian Pavilion at the 20 0 6 Venice
Biennale of Architecture. From 1988 to
20 13, he was the director/ curator of the
Charles H. Scott Gallery at the Emily Carr
University of Art + Design.

CURV PA SSIVE HOUSE | Bak erWest Real Estate
C U R V
Throughout the world, the environmental
challenge has given architecture a renewed
sense of purpose.
CURV, with its Passive House credentials,
takes this to the next level. It is also the first
building project in Vancouver for
Montreal-based developer Brivia Group.
Visually stunning, the undulating shape is
meant to resemble a fresh, green shoot
emerging from the crack in a city sidewalk.
CURV will be the tallest Passive House in
the world and will have 358 homes,
including 96 social- housing units, and a
rooftop amenities area.
In a global market where discerning buyers
have their choice of impeccably appointed
homes, the highest standard of design
excellence is a minimum expectation.
Representing a new era in sustainable
design and engineering, CURV is built to the
Passive House standard, the leading
measure for low-carbon, energy-efficient
homes, and will set a new standard and
mark a new era of design and engineering
aligned with personal and planetary
well-being.
"Vancouver is known for its beauty, its
livability, and its campaign to be the
greenest city in the world. It is also admired
globally for the quality of its urban planning
and, increasingly, for its architectural
ambition. All this makes Vancouver the
perfect canvas for a 60 -storey, luxury
Passive House tower that stands as a tribute
to the city, and a new benchmark for design
excellence and environmental achievement
worldwide." Kheng Ly, Founder, President

Sarah shares, "CURV checks every
single box you would expect from a
luxury development - from its views,
location, and beautiful, organic form
designed by a renowned architect. But
achieving the platinum- level, global
standard for environmental
sustainability is truly the icing on the
cake, elevating it into another realm
that only a few others are in."
She continues, "The fact that we are
now seeing the effects of climate

'work' interest to a true 'life' passion -
in knowing that each one of us has a
role to play in making a difference."

ensuring that every project not only

Jamie Squires, Fifth Avenue Real Estate M arketing
"As someone who has been involved in real
estate for two decades, CURV represents a
dramatic shift in how we view luxury. CURV
is emblematic of a seismic transformation in
the very essence of luxury, catering to the
evolving values of today's discerning
clientele who seek not just the
best- of- the- best, but also embrace the
passive and sustainable nature of the
project," explains Jamie.
"I am passionate about CURV because
it embodies the very essence of what I
believe the future of luxury living should
be. CURV seamlessly merges
cutting-edge design, advanced
technology, and sustainability, creating
a harmonious and extraordinary living
experience that resonates with modern
sensibilities."
LOCATION IS KEY
N elson Heights is fast becoming
downtown Vancouver's most
sought-after address. CURV is flanked
by the city's ' Luxury Zone,' which
includes luxury brand offerings from
Hermes, Gucci, Prada, Dior, and more.
Dining includes Michelin-recognized
Botanist, Boulevard, and M ott 32, and
some of North America's top-ranked
self-care enclaves like Chi Spa at the
Shangri- La and Fairmont Pac Rim' s
Willow Stream Spa.
081
HAVEN IN THE CLOUDS
On the 60 th floor rooftop, residents will find a
lofty paradise, aptly named The Haven.
A divine space that includes a luxury dining
area with a barbecue and pizza oven and
the open-air SkySpa and SkyBar, sheltered
by a wall of windows that block the wind, an
expansive lounge and an elegant and richly
appointed private dining room.
In addition to the gym with professional
quality equipment, there is a games lounge
with a golf simulator, billiards, and a yoga
room powered by Lululemon Studio. From the
24-hour concierge on the ground level to
top-floor access, CURV sets the stage every
day for beauty and wonder.
THE FUTURE IS PASSIVE
Designed in Canada and developed in
Germany, ' Passive House' is internationally
recognized as the leading science-based
standard for low-carbon, energy-efficient
homes. Its exacting specifications create the
optimal conditions to thrive? including fresh,
filtered air in a quiet, tightly insulated,
temperature-optimized environment? at
lower ongoing costs.
Far exceeding the City of Vancouver's 20 30
target for net zero emissions, CURV will use
as little as 10 percent of the heating and
cooling energy of similar conventional
buildings.
083
Proving the Passive House form at this scale,
CURV will be a tipping point in highrise
residential construction? the world's most
energy-efficient structure and a new standard
for the future of living. Building CURV to the
Passive House standard will save an estimated
50 ,0 0 0 tonnes of greenhouse gas (GHG)
emissions over 50 years!
CURV is a visionary idea expressed in a luxury
home: everything one would expect of an
exclusive, international residential property,
and something more. It is an exacting, and at
this scale, unprecedented Passive House
standard that reaches new heights for
personal and planetary well-being.
Like Tesla in its innovative breakout phase,
CURV leverages world-leading technological
performance to deliver the highest-quality
personal experience? the future of living. With
iconic architecture, ethereal interiors,
elevated amenities, panoramic views, and
game-changing environmental
achievement? CURV is luxury w ith purpose.
A FOCUS ON HEALTH & WELL- BEIN G
The environmental crisis threatens the planet's
livability, but the CURV team chooses to see it
as a design challenge. When it comes to
health and well-being, a home should guard
against the challenges of modern life - from
microbes and allergens, pollution, noise or
otherwise, and an increasingly erratic climate.
085
Passive House is the logical extreme in that
ambition? with everything from an
impenetrable building envelope to a purifying
air exchange system? designed and built to
ensure luxurious comfort and optimal conditions
to thrive.
Exceptional insulation guarantees optimal
indoor temperatures no matter the weather
outside. The high-quality, carefully engineered
Passive House building envelope enhances
comfort and ensures longevity. Triple-glazed,
draft-free windows protect against the
elements: cold, heat, and searing sunbeams.
There are no thermal bridges: exterior
connections that transmit heat or cold in or out
of buildings. The structure's airtight building
envelope prevents unwanted drafts and
preserves absolute quiet. CURV's ventilation
system ensures the quiet circulation of clean,
fresh, temperature-adjusted air.

The Passive House standard ensures a long
legacy with ultra-efficient energy use? saving
up to 90 % of heating and cooling energy
compared to similar buildings. The result is
lower operating costs and strata fees? freeing
up resources and future-proofing its value.
SON G OF THE HEAVEN S
As Vancouver is the gateway to the East, CURV,
soon to be the highest point in the city, has
another identity: Tin Wan (? ? ).
In Cantonese, these words translate roughly as
" sky" and " song," but together, they are
understood to evoke "the song of the heavens."
This is fitting for a building that shapes a new
way forward on a changing planet.

The current Sunzen Art Gallery exhibition,
"Treasures of the Heaven," features the work
of Chun Feng Xiang Yu, one of the top
porcelain makers in contemporary China, with
kilns in Jingdezhen City, the birthplace of
Chinese porcelain. The founder and current
owner, Zou Jun, has been working as a
porcelain artist for over thirty years.
The lifelike characters and grand landscapes
are compared with scroll paintings, masterly
depicted within inches. Modern aesthetics
interpreted with exceptional craftsmanship,
Chun Feng Xiang Yu is worthy of the reputation
of "treasures of the heaven."
117
In over a decade of collaboration between
Sunzen Art Gallery and Zou Jun, the curators
have collected over a hundred Chun Feng
Xiang Yu masterpieces. This exhibition was
curated by Sida Chen, produced by
Jing N ing and spotlights Chun Feng Xiang
Yu's most important stages of creation,
representing the thinking and exploration of
Chinese porcelain art and its future.
HISTORICALLY EXQUISITE PORCELAIN
Born in Jingdezhen City, Zou Jun's ancestors
started their porcelain-making business in
the early 19th century to support
family-owned Chinese medicine shops.
At that time, the Chinese medicine shops
needed large amounts of porcelains as
containers for Chinese medicines.
In 1992, the Hong Kong tea merchant
Rong Zhi ordered some customized
teawares from Zou Jun, marking his
starting point in a new career as
a porcelain-making master.
119
Zou Jun graduated from Jingdezhen
Porcelain Academy with a systemic
understanding of designing and making
porcelain. The archaized designs of Chun
Feng Xiang Yu porcelains are based
on the Late Yuan Dynasty and early
M ing Dynasty (14th~15th century)
porcelain styles.
The shape, brushwork, thickness of the
porcelain body, and blue and white colour
have all undergone repeated trials and
comparisons. On this basis, the designs are
modified with new techniques and a
modernist taste. With a great understanding
of Chinese porcelain's history, tradition, and
unique aesthetics, Chun Feng Xiang Yu now
represents high-quality contemporary
porcelain art in China.
Along with an extensive collection of
artwork and cultural pieces, Sunzen is also
home to numerous exhibitions and events to
foster community development between
artists, collectors, and professionals.
