EDITOR-IN-CHIEF / Publisher's M essage
Welcome to Folio.YVR Luxury Lifestyle
M agazine's celebration of my favourite season
- Spring! A time when new designer collections
are released, goals for the new year are now
(hopefully) part of our routine, and nature is
bursting with life.
With this issue, I am pleased to share our
second story in the Show case Pianos Presents
series, featuring an exclusive interview with
international superstar Chloe Flow er. The
' Popsical' sound inventor and human creative
dynamo shared her beauty at photoshoots
showcasing the Westbank Fazioli collection.
From her obsession with the infamous American
pianist Liberace to her human rights activism, I
loved everything about writing this story!
Recently, luxury Swiss watch company Longines
visited Vancouver and shared an incredible
opportunity to celebrate their Pilot M ajetek
collection. The elevated experience included a
helicopter trip around the stunning N orth Shore
M ountains and a one-on-one with Daniel Hug,
Head of Brand Heritage, about their unique
Collectors Corner resale section.
I invite you to take a culinary journey at
Wildlight Kitchen + Bar in West Point Grey
and indulge in the upscale brunch designed by
award-winning Chef Warren Chow and bar
manager Aman N ijjar's robust list of featured
beverages. Then catch-up with celebrated raw
vegan chef Crystal Bonnet as her new
cookbook,' The Art of Raw Desserts,' climbs the
best-seller list on Amazon.
Collaborations are everywhere, and I could not
be more excited to share three that caught my
attention. The Rolls- Royce x Iris van Herpen
Phantom Syntopia is an electrifying edition
and features a signature fragrance released
through a headrest mechanism! The launch
event for the Pagani Utopia featured a Fazioli
performance that tapped into the brand's
history, and the Hennessy X.O x Kim Jones
collaboration features two lavish bottle designs
and a collectible sneaker.
As Lyle Reimer (LYLE XOX) is in Milan exploring
a new top-secret luxury brand collaboration,
West Kelowna-based statement jewelry brand
Carolily prepares its collection for the
upcoming Paris Fashion Week. Donna and
Danielle, the mother-daughter duo behind the
brand, are the focus of this issue's local luxury
spotlight.
If the Fairmont Banff Springs is on your spring
get-away list, note that the Crown Suites and
Fairmont Gold (floors 4 & 5) have been
gorgeously redesigned by Jeffrey Beers
International (JBI) and ready for you.
Before you begin to flip, let me share a
profound quote that I gleaned from my friend
Larry M ogelonsky, Luxury Hotel Consultant,
from his latest View s from the Hotel M ogel:
"Those who have no time for healthy eating will
sooner or later have to find time for illness."
Lord Edw ard Stanley (1826-1983).

CHLOE FLOWER | Westbank | Vancouver, BC
AAs an accomplished pianist, composer, and producer,
Chloe Flow er is bridging the gap between classical and
pop.
Her self-created sound - POPSICAL - embodies sweet
melodies, epic strings, and hip-hop beats blended with
impressive aplomb and was first showcased in her 20 21
eponymous debut album, ' Chloe Flow er.'
Born in Pennsylvania, a young Chloe Jeanne Won first
reached for piano keys at two years old. By twelve, she
studied at the M anhattan School of M usic and London?s
Royal Academy of M usic , completely enthralled by the
dazzling American pianist and legendary performer -
Liberace.
"I love Liberace, and especially loved his brother, George,
who wrote all of the string arrangements. I think Liberace
really paved the way for POPSICAL. Musically, he really
nailed the mix of popular music and culture with his
classical background. Aesthetically, he was just as
'popsical.' I love how he didn?t conform, even when
people ridiculed him. I remember him saying once, after
getting the worst reviews, that he cried all the way to the
bank! It takes a lot of strength to be different and I
respected him for that as much as I respected his music -
which was brilliant."
013
Flower?s strong sense of determination is
also present in activism in the prevention
of human trafficking and advocating for
music education for all.
This past October 20 22, she received
The Last Girl?s Impact Aw ard for her work
in anti-human trafficking.
In an interview with Forbes, she shared,
?I?m so passionate about music education
and human trafficking because, in both
scenarios, you?re typically dealing with
someone who?s in a position that they
were born in. I?m lucky that my parents
provided me with all of the tools
necessary to become successful, but so
many kids are unlucky.?
C e l e b r a t i n g F a z i o l i i n Y V R
In Vancouver, for a collaboration with
Westbank, Chloe visited the incredible
Fazioli pianos that developer Ian Gillespie
has commissioned.
She said, "My favourite one so far is the
Floating Fazioli piano. I?ve never seen
anything like it. And I love love love
cantilevers in architecture so it reminded
me of that! Commenting on her visit to our
city, she enthused, "I love the views, the
landscape and the food. Vancouver is
one of the most beautiful cities I?ve ever
been to!"
C r e a t i n g M u s i c f o r t h e M a s s e s
The multi-hyphenate star has become
music and fashion?s go-to creator as she
intertwines her couture style and unique
sound into something the industry has never
seen or heard. Chloe has grown into a
musical powerhouse over the years ? from
her show-stopping 20 19 Grammy Aw ards
performance with Cardi B to a surprise
appearance with M eek M ill at a sold-out
M adison Square Garden concert.
Aside from her music, Flower has
co-produced and composed for Céline
Dion, Johnny M athis, 2 Chainz, Sw ae Lee,
N AS, and many others.
Additionally, she scored M isty Copeland?s
documentary, 'A Ballerina?s Tale,' numerous
works by Kevin Hart, including his
streaming show 'Hart to Hart,' for N BC,
and original compositions for the
champagne house Krug.
In 20 22, Flower performed her original
song ?Golden Hour?at the Golden Globes
Aw ards. Her love of film music, especially
instrumental and classical, inspired it.
015
M u s i c i s a H u m a n R i g h t
"Right now and always, music
education is most important to me. I
would be so happy just writing music in
my sweatpants at home every night. I?m
a very introverted person.
I grind so hard everyday so that I can
inspire young kids AND their parents
AND their grandparents to learn an
instrument.
Whenever people say, ?I wish I never
quit piano? or, ?I wish I learned an
instrument,? it really upsets me. Would
you never exercise just because you?re
not going to become a professional
athlete? Of course, not, music is also
exercise for the brain. It teaches things
that no other subject can like dignity,
self- esteem, purpose, empathy, racial
tolerance, and it creates new
pathways to learning. I truly believe
music T ais ka i nhuman g Mright a n y and A music l o n g can f o r t h e R i d e
make a society better in one
generation. Music is a human right."
Chloe Flow er is a visionary, an icon,
an activist, and Folio.YVR is honoured to
share this exclusive interview with you.

Consumerist culture is filled with
superfluous objects, many of which are
passed the point of use. For Lyle Reimer,
aka Lyle XOX, these discarded objects
are more than their materials? they are
filled with artistic possibility.
The Vancouver-based artist has
developed a practice that combines his
experience in art, fashion, design and
make-up artistry to create striking
images using his own body as canvas
and plinth.
Surrounding himself with found objects,
Lyle XOX creates facial sculptures and
adornments to design fictional
characters that defy gender, cultural
and beauty norms.
021
Each portrait presented is the result of
shooting 10 0 s of photographs, offering a
study in contrast and fantasy, with humour
and irony woven throughout.
The work of Lyle XOX immediately resonates
in our social media- soaked society, which
prioritizes the connection between images
of one?s face with social identity.
His photographs challenge notions of
masculinity and femininity, embracing a
spirit of duality and joie de vivre. At the
same time, the bold gaze of his characters
directly confronts viewers with objects
relating to their own carbon footprint? the
detritus of capitalism. Through a surrealist
lens, the objects and their inherent histories
provoke thought around the relationship
between mundane things, high fashion, and
consumerism.
?I feel as soon as the wig cap goes on, it is
the start of a transformation. Because at
the end of it, you look in the mirror and you
don?t see you see a living sculpture.?
023
S m a l l T o w n B o y
After growing up in the small town of Wymark
(less than 20 0 people) in rural Saskatchew an,
Lyle relocated to Vancouver, BC, attended
Blanche M acDonald Centre for Applied Design,
and worked for M AC Cosmetics for over 15-years.
Once Lyle decided to focus solely on his artistic
practice, his career skyrocketed.
?All of this that is happening is so fantastic and so
amazing but if you don?t have really amazing
people in your life to share that excitement with,
then it really doesn?t feel the same.?
T h e W o r l d D i s c o v e r s L Y L E X O X
In 20 19, he was named one of the Vogue World 10 0
(the top 10 0 people selected by Vogue Magazine
for pushing boundaries of art, beauty and style),
released his book ?Lyle XOX: Head of Design?
published by Rizzoli in New York, and was hosted by
both the Dutch fashion house Viktor & Rolf and
Cirque du Soleil to witness his process. CBC then
released a full-length documentary ?Random is my
Favourite Colour,?and three months later his book
won an International Photography Aw ard.
025
Lyle XOX has been featured in numerous
international publications including Artnet,
Vogue Italia, Surface, V, N ew York Times,
L?Officiel, DAZED, and many others. He has
given artist talks in N ew York, Paris, Tokyo,
M exico City, Taiw an, and Amsterdam. In
addition, Lyle XOX collaborated with
renowned musician and performer FKA
Tw igs, and has worked with luxury brands
M oschino, Gucci, Comme des Garcon,
Viktor & Rolf, and M aison M argiela.
?I am well aware that I have taken a

way it has to be? yeah, it?s the way it has to
be.?

CAROLI LY
JEWELRY

CA ROLILY JEWELRY | West K elow na, BC
WWhen an accessory is so divine, one can only
wonder how much love, patience, and care
went into its creation.
Carolily was created out of love. Donna and
Danielle Scheven, the mother-daughter team
behind the West Kelow na-based design
house, launched Carolily to honour two
exceptional women in their lives who guided
them and taught them to be compassionate
and committed - Carol and Lily, Donna?s
mother and grandmother.
T h e N a m e S p e a k s V o l u m e s
During World War ll, as Churchill instructed
Britain to ?keep calm, and carry on,? women
like Carol and Lily would don their pearl
strands and ?regiment red?lipstick like armour
and step outside their homes, ready to take on
whatever the day would bring them. Their
courage, unwavering confidence and ability to
keep moving forward in challenging times
have always inspired the Canadian duo.
033
With Donna?s passion for artistry
and jew elry making and Danielle?s
background in digital marketing , an
online boutique filled with stunning,
handcrafted jewelry made perfect
sense, and Carolily became a reality.
Carolily designs and meticulously
handcrafts 10 0 % of their statement
jewelry in-house from pearls,
gemstones, hypoallergenic stainless
steel, and sterling silver.
Looking at Carolily?s jewelry, one can
see they are obsessed with pearls!
Currently working with Austrian
pearls, in the future, they aim to
create with lustrous Akoya pearls and
source directly from family-run farms.
A P r o c e s s o f O b s e r v a t i o n
When Donna begins to conceptualize
and create new collections, what she
sees in nature often creates an
emotion or energy that will be
captured in pieces. The colours
chosen will represent that energy or
mood, and she will gather pearls,
gemstones, crystals and such, lay them
out, and ?play?until a combination
that is just right emerges.
?I have always been enamoured with
nature - enchanted by the perfection
of a raindrop on a leaf and the
movement and moods of water.
"I am inspired by the jewelry of the
Edwardian and Art Deco Eras, the
craftsmanship, the intricate designs,
how they reflect the spirit of that time,
and what effect that had on women.
And I gain great inspiration from the
beauty and strength of women in their
prime.?
G i v i n g B a c k i s S h a r i n g L o v e
Donna and Danielle firmly believe
that donating to charity makes the
world a safer, healthier, and fairer
place for all. From the beginning,
Carolily has contributed to over a
dozen organizations, from the
Kelow na Women?s Shelter in 20 16 to
The First N ations Caring Society in
20 22, and for 20 23, have chosen
Plan International. To them, it is
essential to support girls in
low-income countries with what they
need to carry on with their schooling.
?Every time we handcraft a piece of
jewelry, we pay homage to the
women that came before us. We pay
tribute to their family and ours, and
together we celebrate the women of
today.?
035
Currently preparing eight collections for
Paris Fashion Week (October 20 23),
Donna and Danielle have enjoyed seeing
their jewelry at N ew York Fashion Week
(20 19), and splashed across the pages of
renowned publications like British Vogue,
Vanity Fair, Glamour, and Story of
Fashion.
?For Paris Fashion Week, we are excited
about collaborating with another fashion
brand as part of the invitation,? said
Donna. ?As the Carolily designer, I look
forward to having complete creative
freedom to develop these new pieces.?

For 20 years, every Rolls- Royce motor car
has been built by hand at Goodw ood, the
company?s state-of-the-art facility in the
UK, and 20 23 will see a series of festivities
held at the facility and its surrounding
properties.
Earlier this year, Carolily was approached
by a prestigious publishing house in London
to participate in the 20 th-anniversary
event that would celebrate the Rolls-Royce
Goodwood relationship by creating a
handmade hardback book.
037
?We are deeply honoured to share space
and exhibit our jewelry with a company as
prestigious as Rolls-Royce, not to mention the
other brands participating in the anniversary
event,? said Donna and Danielle.
?To celebrate the 20 th anniversary of
Rolls-Royce at Goodw ood, the International
Club for Rolls- Royce & Bentley Enthusiasts
(RREC) commissioned publisher St James?s
House to produce a luxury coffee-table
book titled Strive for Perfection:
Celebrating 20 years of Goodw ood,? said
Richard Freed, Founder of St James?s House
and the SJH Group. ?As a leading Canadian
brand of exquisitely designed jewellery,
Carolily was a perfect fit for inclusion in this
publication.?
A F u t u r e o f D e s i g n & C o m p a s s i o n
As for what the future holds for Carolily, the
mother-daughter duo looks forward to their
handcrafted creations sparking joy in women
worldwide from strategic partnerships with
retailers and sales agencies in North
America. Becoming Carbon Zero certified is
on their list of musts - making their love for
nature and the environment quantifiable.
?Sharing the Carolily love, one necklace at a

idea that lights a fire in our hearts every day.?

LONGINES NOVELTIES | Longines Pilot M aj etek
wWith centuries of watchmaking expertise,
Longines has played a pioneering role in
several technological advances and
continues to display an unwavering
commitment to innovation. Its constant
pursuit of excellence has, in turn, led it to
equip all of its automatic timepieces with
state-of-the-art movements, which notably
include a silicon balance spring. This
material is light and corrosion-resistant
and remains unaffected by normal
temperature variations and magnetic
fields. Its unique properties improve the
precision and longevity of the watch and
allow Longines to provide these models
with a 5- year w arranty.
L a u n c h i n g L o n g i n e s P i l o t M a j e t e k
With the Longines Pilot M ajetek, the
winged hourglass brand is putting its name
to the return of a watch designed for
aviation and appreciated by a wider
audience. This new timepiece combines a
spirit of adventure and a historical
dimension without ignoring 21st- century
aesthetic and technical codes. Its
bi-directional fluted bezel mounted
on a cushion-shaped steel case asserts
its original character and evokes the
1935 model that inspired it.
043
With a history of more than 190 years,
Longines can draw on an incomparable
heritage. With their cutting-edge
technical features, the brand?s iconic
pilot?s and explorer?s instrument watches
are the prestigious proof of this. The
w inged- hourglass brand can thus offer
enthusiasts of fine mechanical watches
timepieces whose DNA is rooted in the
characteristic aesthetics of the brand?s
historic models.
Longines combines these with
contemporary expertise to measure
time with the undisputed precision and
reliability for which it is renowned. The
design of the Longines Pilot Majetek is
a perfect example of this.
In its first version, the curved cushion
shape of its case underlines its unique
design, registered on April 1, 1935 at
the International Industrial Property
Office in Bern, Sw itzerland. Although
intended for aviators, this watch has
attracted a wider audience seeking a
reliable, robust, precise and
easy-to-read watch.
The technical and ergonomic features
of the new Longines Pilot Majetek have
been completely overhauled. However,
its revised proportions, original slightly
curved cushion shape and more
rounded lugs are in keeping with
current trends.
Its 43mm diameter delivers outstanding
wearer comfort. At 9 o?clock, the
outside of the steel case, which has a
screw-in back, is fitted with a
commemorative plate marked ' 1935.'
It guarantees the water resistance of
10 bar (10 0 m) of the external fluted
rotating bezel system coupled with the
internal fluorescent-mobile triangle
marker, or 'Starting time indicator.'
The latter is displayed below the
sapphire crystal, from which it is
independent and above the dial. In the
1935 model, the bezel and the crystal
with the marker rotated as a unit. In the
current model, the sapphire glass is
fixed and contributes to the water
resistance of the new case.
045
A W a t c h w i t h D e f i n e d C o d e s
Like watches explicitly designed for
aviators, the new Longines Pilot
Majetek has a matte black dial
offering optimum legibility. The white
Arabic numerals, coated with
Super- LumiN ova® old radium,
indicate the hours, highlighted by a
railway minute marker. Rhodiumtipped
baton hands move across them.
They are phosphorescent, ensuring
optimal night-time legibility.
The oversized small seconds dial,
lowered into the dial at 6 o?clock, is a
reminder, together with the fluted
bezel, of the original functional
character of this pilot?s watch.
Powered by the exclusive Longines
L893.6 calibre equipped with a
magnetically resistant silicon balance
spring, the new Longines Pilot Majetek
has a 72-hour power reserve. The
entire watch head is chronometercertified
by the Contrôle Officiel
Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC), an
independent control body. This
timepiece has a N ATO- type two-stitch
strap in polyester fibre from recycled
materials.
With its strong character, the Longines
Pilot Majetek is ideal for everyday
wear and all your upcoming
adventures at any and every latitude.
C o l l e c t o r s C o r n e r : E m b r a c i n g R e s a l e
Longines?s long and rich history is
written into each of the brand?s
designs. Each piece produced over
the years is part of the Swiss
watchmaker identity, a historical
legacy that Longines has always
strived to preserve and highlight.
This is why the brand now offers a
range of exceptional vintage watches
that have been carefully serviced and
revised by its specialized heritage
workshop. These unique models are
exclusively on sale in the Longines

N e x t L e v e l D e l i c i o u s n e s s
?This cookbook was one of the
most challenging things I have
ever done, but I learned so
much throughout the entire
process. It made me a better
recipe developer, recipe
writer, and food
photographer and gave me
more confidence in the
kitchen. It also made me a
better raw dessert chef
because of the number of
recipes I had to create; it
required a ton of
experimenting.
I wanted to create recipes
that were unique with a
variety of skill levels to
accommodate everyone. With
this cookbook, I hope others
will make these desserts and
share them with their
non-vegan family and friends.
Raw desserts are an excellent

this incredible collection of
decadent dessert recipes,
which adhere to raw and

learning, that feeling goes
away just like with anything

Her work within the plant-based
culinary industry not only includes the
development of ?The Art of Raw
Desserts?cookbook but unique
plant-based menus for new restaurants,
multiple online courses for international
students of raw cuisine, and travelling
to design and cater numerous health
retreats in Canada and Europe.
?I had been approached by publishers
before and always declined for
different reasons, but this publisher was
different. After my first call with them, I
started considering it; I enjoyed their
energy and willingness to be flexible
with my solopreneur schedule. I said
yes; it was very scary because writing
a cookbook is not easy, and I had a
paralyzing fear that no one would like
it. I know I?m not alone in feeling this
way,? she confessed with a smile.
Her passion for raw will continue with
the conceptualization and
development of new recipes that
include unique sweet and savoury
dishes that capture all the
mouth-watering flavours of their
counterparts without any processed
sugar, added gluten or harmful dairy
and animal products.
?To perfect a new recipe, I find myself
creating it repeatedly and sometimes
perfecting them throughout the years
as I learn and grow. This is because
recipes are like a painting; there is
always a little tweak that can be done
to evolve them.
When I think of the next phase for

HENNESSY X .O X K IM JONES | LVM H, Paris
t r a v e l
sSeveral years ago, Kim Jones, a British fashion
designer, got smitten by different worlds ?
technology and art ? an infatuation that led to him
merging them in his head and later translating them
into his design.
Jones does not have a background in science; he
attended the prestigious Central Saint M artins
College of Art and Design in London. Yet he
regularly draws inspiration from sciences to create
rarefied, gorgeous designs, one of them being the
Hennessy X.O masterpiece, employing unexpected
materials and 3D printing.
"The idea of taking something very technological
and fusing that with something different, it's very
exciting," he discloses. "It's all my caps together. It's
a graphic design interest. It's the idea of the form of
taking one manufacturer to another manufacturer.
It's the idea of taking something made out of paper
and then creating it in metal. It's all those different
things combined," he continues.
083

In a first for the Maison, the acclaimed
fashion designer transcends couture and
cognac in a special collection featuring a
collectible sneaker, Masterpiece decanter,
and Limited Edition bottle.
Interweaving the richness of Hennessy X.O's
150 -year heritage with Kim Jones' creative
vision, the collaboration features the
Hennessy X.O M asterpiece designed by
Kim Jones, the Hennessy X.O Limited
Edition bottle by Kim Jones, and in a first
for the brand, the HN Y Low by Kim Jones.
This also marks Maison Hennessy's first
partnership with a fashion designer!
"We are thrilled to embark on a new
odyssey blending cognac-making and
couture with Kim Jones, a creative master
of our time," said Laurent Boillot , Hennessy
CEO. "Inspired by the emblematic
personality of Hennessy X.O, Kim has
developed a resolutely contemporary
collection that is destined to make an
impact on culture today and in the future."
For Hennessy X.O, Jones pays tribute to
cognac-making and couture, two
processes that touch on an understanding
of science and the natural world, as well as
artisanal craftsmanship and savoir-faire.
085
He follows in the footsteps of a
formidable lineage of great masters who
have helped cement Hennessy X.O's
cultural resonance over the years,
including Frank Gehry, Cai Guo- Qiang,
and Ridley Scott.
"I'm fascinated by the rich heritage of
Hennessy, a household name behind
which artisans have spent hundreds of
years creating this special cognac," says
Jones. "Storytelling is very important for
me regardless of what I'm designing or
who I'm collaborating with ? I want my
designs to educate and inspire people
through the stories they tell."
H N Y L o w b y K i m J o n e s
Designed by Kim Jones and crafted in an
LVMH-owned shoe factory in Italy, the
limited edition HNY Low by Kim Jones is
inspired by early basketball shoes.
Contrasting with the classic upper, a
technical sole in tonal grooved rubber
features an imprint of cognac vines and
the Hennessy X.O x Kim Jones logo on its
underside. At the same time, the initials KJ
and the Hennessy bras armé emblem
discreetly adorn the heel.
"I wanted it to be elevated and chic,
to reflect both the long heritage of
cognac and my own design values," says
the designer, who also transposed the
curves of the Hennessy X.O bottle onto
the sneaker.
"I wanted it to feel like you're almost
looking into the bottle. It's a glass of
cognac in sneaker form."
C o g n a c M e e t s C o u t u r e
Designed exclusively for Hennessy by
Kim Jones, produced using 3D printing
technology, and finished by hand, the
sculptural Hennessy X.O Masterpiece has
been produced in only 20 0 examples.
The decanter demonstrates how humanity
and technology can work together to
create something unique, "like a piece of
bespoke couture for a bottle," the
designer notes.
The Hennessy X.O Masterpiece draws
inspiration from the making of Hennessy
X.O, an art perfected by eight
generations of M aster Blenders.
A specially developed titanium casing
entirely encapsulates the bottle like an
architectural second skin. Its twisting
folds evoke both the couture technique
of draping and how, at the turn of the
20 th century, Hennessy bottles were
carefully hand-enveloped in tissue
paper to protect their fragile parchment
paper labels.
Its base, an undulating oak plateau, nods
to the barrels used to agneaux-de-vie
that would eventually be blended to
create Hennessy X.O.
087
While the bottle is entirely obscured
from view, the cognac can be extracted
using the fusil also designed by Jones,
adding an elegant and playful ritual to
serve a glass of the Hennessy X.O blend.
As a finishing touch, the decanter has
been dipped in gradient colours,
inspired by the shades of the different
eaux-de-vie selected by the Master
Blender to compose Hennessy X.O.
Jones shares, "When I saw how the
vintage Hennessy bottles were
wrapped, it spoke volumes to me about
how precious each one is and how they
were handled. I was particularly
touched by their history and the sense of
how generations have dedicated their
time to making each step of the process
better and better. That same process
also holds true with fashion."
D e s i g n e r D e c a n t e r P e r f e c t i o n
The third element of the collaboration is
the Hennessy X.O Limited Edition
'ready-to-wear' version of the decanter
specially imagined by Kim Jones. The
Hennessy X.O bottle is encased in an
aluminum second skin, its structure
showcasing the signature shape of the
bottle while evoking a couture
silhouette. A true representation of the
merger of fashion and culture with
excellence and legacy, the
limited-edition bottle is the final piece
of the Hennessy X.O x Kim Jones
partnership.

ROLLS- ROYCE

ROLLS-ROYCE X IRIS VA N HERPEN | Goodw ood
RRolls- Royce M otor Cars has unveiled the
Phantom Syntopia. An intricate, haute
couture-inspired masterpiece created in
collaboration with renowned Dutch fashion
designer and haute couturière Iris van Herpen.
Based on Phantom Extended ? the ultimate
blank canvas for personalization ? it is the
most technically complex commission ever
undertaken by the Rolls- Royce Bespoke
Collective. Now, after four years of continuous
development, this extraordinary and unique
creation is complete; it will soon take its place
in the private collection of a discerning patron
of the brand.
Phantom Syntopia takes its name from Iris van
Herpen?s landmark 20 18 collection, designed
on the principles of biomimicry in which art is
inspired by patterns and shapes found in
nature. Like the collection, which comprises a
series of highly sculptural garments brought to
life through movement, Phantom Syntopia
seeks to represent the elusive, ethereal beauty
of fluid motion in solid materials through its
?Weaving Water?theme.

To create the stunning, shimmering exterior,
the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective
developed a one-off Liquid N oir paint.
Iridescent in sunlight, it reveals purple, blue,
magenta, and gold undertones when viewed
at different angles. To achieve this effect,
the marque?s darkest solid-black paint is
overlaid with a finish incorporating a
mirror-like pigment, selected for its
colour-shifting properties. To add a subtle,
elegant shimmer, the team developed a
brand-new technique for applying pigment
to the clearcoat ? a process that took
several months, including over 3,0 0 0 hours
of testing and validation alone.
In t e r i o r B e s p o k e S c e n t
The Phantom Syntopia is the first Rolls-Royce
motor car to incorporate a Bespoke scent,
creating a truly immersive expression of
luxury. It was developed by an expert
perfumer ? now affectionately known as ?the
N ose of the Bespoke Collective?? in close
collaboration with the client. Designed to
create a lasting memory, the fragrance is
subtle and perfectly complements other
aromas arising from the materials used
in the car.
The core scent is cedarw ood and softer
notes, and as part of this project?s constant
quest for the ultimate in personalization, the
cedarwood used was carefully sourced
specially from the client?s home region.
The specially developed scent- releasing
mechanism is housed within the headrests.
097
In t e r i o r S u i t e : 3 D A r t
Phantom Syntopia?s interior suite were
handcrafted at the home of Rolls-Royce
by the company?s leading craftspeople
working alongside members of van
Herpen?s team, while others were
created in her Amsterdam atelier,
alongside her haute couture garments.
On opening the magnificent coach
doors, the eye is immediately drawn to
the Weaving Water Starlight Headliner,
the most technically challenging version
of this signature Rolls-Royce feature ever
produced. Precise symmetrical cuts
reveal a silver ?liquid metal?texture
made from woven nylon fabric
underneath, used in Iris van Herpen?s
?Embossed Sounds?collection, giving the
Headliner a three-dimensional
appearance. It is finished with 162
delicate petals made of glass organza,
applied by members of the couture team
who travelled to Goodw ood to
undertake the work ? a process that
took nearly 30 0 hours. In addition, 187 of
the 995 sparkling fiberoptic ?stars?
were individually placed by hand
alongside the artwork; illuminating
sequentially, starting from the rear, and
moving to the front, they create a feeling
of movement. In total, the entire
Headliner alone involved almost
70 0 collective hours of work.
The ?Weaving Water?theme continues
throughout the unique artwork in the
Gallery. Combining traditional haute
couture techniques and innovative
visual forms, this highly expressive work
includes a further 85 petals, which were
also attached by hand, representing
almost 60 hours of painstaking work.
The design to be found on the picnic
tables and the passenger panel just
below the Gallery mirrors the Weaving
Water artwork on the bonnet. The motif
was achieved by combining multiple
coats of paint and lacquer containing
different quantities of glass particles ?
an extraordinarily complex process that
took over three weeks to complete.
Before commencing the work, the
Exterior Surface Centre team had spent
four months perfecting the formula,
running nine trials before identifying the
ideal proportion of glass particles:
across the entire car, precisely one
tablespoon has been used!
Phantom Syntopia will take its place
in the client?s private collection
in M ay 20 23.

PA GA NI UTOPIA X FA ZIOLI | M ilano, Italy
T
The Teatro Lirico in M ilano hosted the world
première of the new Pagani Utopia. This
hypercar is ready to write a new chapter
in the history of the famous marque from
San Cesario sul Panaro. The event was
dedicated to Pagani clients and dealers from
across the globe and an exceptional audience
of more than 170 employees whose expertise
and passion have helped create this new model.
After the greeting from Horacio Pagani and his
family, the Pagani Utopia was unveiled to a
unique musical backdrop played on a
Fazioli F278. This concert grand has exceptional
power, magnificent balance between bass and
treble, extensive dynamic range and harmonic
richness, and a perfect pairing for the launch.
103
P a g a n i x F a z i o l i = P e r f e c t i o n
?The pairing of Pagani and
Fazioli at the launch of the
Pagani Utopia is exquisite
because the visionary leaders
behind both companies
relentlessly push the
boundaries of their respective
industries to new heights,? says
M anuel Bernaschek,
Showcase Pianos (official
Fazioli dealer).
The designer and founder of
the company, Horacio Pagani,
sat at the piano and played
the first few notes of a tune he
composed as a young man
before handing over to the
Symphonic Orchestra of the
Milan Conservatory.
An original composition by
Vincenzo Parisi, inspired by
the work of the young Pagani.
?The composition is based on
three themed motifs devised
by Horacio Pagani in the early
1980 s, originally for piano
only,? explained Parisi. ?I
expanded these motifs by
following a narrative arc
which celebrates the story of
the designer.
"From the pampas of
Argentina to the first cars he
designed and the creation of
the brand-new Pagani Utopia.
The gripping sound of the
orchestra mimics the sleek
and compact design of
the car, its engineering
inspiration contrasting with the
lyrical melodies that speak of
distant dreams.?
?It is very moving to appear on
this stage and play the notes I
wrote as a youngster, and it is
a privilege to do so alongside
the Symphonic Orchestra of
the M ilan Conservatory,?
added Horacio Pagani. ?I am
immensely grateful to
Vincenzo Parisi. He started
with just a cassette and a
small tape recorder, but he
was able to transcribe a score
to be played by 48 musicians.
I never studied music. I just sat
at the piano until I was able to
express what was in my mind,
pieces that I would never have
thought would be played in
this setting. But this music now
has a name: Utopia.?
105
A L e g e n d a r y C o l l a b o r a t i o n
The collaboration between the car
manufacturer and Milan?s Giuseppe Verdi
Conservatory is one built on craftsmanship,
as Cristina Frosini, director of the institute,
explains: ?Music and cutting-edge car
design come together in the new Pagani
hypercar. A journey which involved the
designer and his songs that formed the
basis for the composition students to
create original works. A testament to how
the students at the Milan Conservatory
have, throughout their studies, been
involved in artistic projects which prepare
them for the profession in the broadest
sense of the term. Today, music is part of
the world of industry, design, fashion,
gastronomy and technology, offering
students professional opportunities which
are often innovative and surprising.?
In the new hypercar, music also has a
functional purpose. The symphony
composed has been used to create some
specific melodies which will characterize
the goodbye sound of the Pagani Utopia.
Incredible!
