Editor’s Note

After an unseasonably dry and sunny January,

we have made our way to February. While

the somewhat unusual trio of Groundhog Day,

Valentines Day and Presidents’ Day will remain on

our February calendars, I hope you’ll take a look at

our 2025-26 School Open House Guide (starting

on pg. 8!) and add a few school events as well.

This issue also features a guide to help you start your Spring Break

Camp planning and even a few Summer Camp discounts for you early

birds! We’ll be back next month with the first of our 2025 Summer

Camp Guides and it’s shaping up to be a great issue. Speaking of camps,

remember to save the date for our annual Summer Camp Expo! We’ll see

you on Saturday, April 5th at OMSI and already have some surprises in

store for the event. In the meantime, check out our online events calendar

at nwkidsmagazine.com/events to get some inspiration for familyfriendly

activities to carry you through February and beyond!

Cheers,

Mary

Contain the Pain

by Shira

We end the burning

Befriend the hurting

Twist tragedy into opportunity

From “I need all I own.”

To “Why is this even here?”

Get rid of your trash

Be sure it becomes another’s treasure

Stop the hateful spread

Start to contain the pain

Hold family close; keep friends dear

They say you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone

But sometimes, when others feel that loss,

You do too

Where Now?

by Cash

We’ve lost everything.

What do we do?

We had to leave.

Where do we go now?

We only have little things left.

How do we survive?

We only have our family.

What else is there to value?

The fire kept burning.

How long do we have to wait?

It’s all gone.

What do we do?

It’s over, but nothing is here.

Where do we go now?

This month’s poetry was inspired by the devastating

Southern California wildfires. All of our hearts are with

those who have been, and will continue to be, affected.

Shira is a current 7th grader at PJA.

In addition to writing, she enjoys

dancing, chilling, and watching TV.

Cash is a current 7th grader at PJA.

In addition to writing, he enjoys

listening to music, traveling, and

swimming in the ocean
