3 things to know about learning AI for career

advancement

Artificial intelligence (AI)

undeniably continues to

shape the workplace. Companies

across the globe are

navigating how to integrate

AI into their business operations

and strategies - making

it increasingly paramount

for professionals to

keep pace with these modern

tech advancements.

This AI-focused landscape

might be overwhelming

for some, but there is a

significant opportunity for

workers to excel by learning

new skills and enhancing

existing ones. Based on new

research conducted by Reputation

Leaders and sponsored

by DeVry University,

there are several considerations

people should keep

in mind when working to

progress their careers in an

economy influenced by AI.

1. AI skills are no longer

just “nice-to-have.”

Gone are the days when

AI was a distant concept. It

is now a present-day reality,

and it’s shifting current roles

and creating new ones. From

automating routine tasks to

providing data-driven insights,

AI tools are changing

what businesses — and their

workers — need to succeed

in the future. Employers recognize

this. In fact, research

shows that 73% of employers

believe hiring more people

with AI skills will benefit their

organization. Meanwhile,

most workers (83%) say AI

skills will have some impact

on their ability to remain employable.

The challenge is that while

nearly 9 in 10 employers

(87%) are offering upskilling

opportunities, they estimate

on average only about half

of workers (55%) participate.

While employers continue

to identify how to best train

on AI, this signals a vast opportunity

for workers to take

advantage of their company’s

continuing education offerings.

If they are not sure how

to align their skills with the

future needs of their company,

they can proactively ask

how they should be upskilling

for their specific career

advancement.

2. Responsible use of

AI use is imperative.

Most workers already see

the benefits of AI, such as

an increased ease of working

and productivity. According

to Reputation Leaders’

research, and only one in 5

workers (19%) believe their

job security has decreased

because of AItechnology.

In addition, AI can allow

employees to concentrate

on tasks like strategic decision-making

and collaboration

instead of administrative

or other mundane tasks.

“The future of work is all

about the synergy between the

individual capabilities and AI

technologies,” said Shantanu

Bose, Ph.D., provost and chief

academic officer at DeVry

University. “Embracing AI as

a partner in your work can

enable you to engage in higher-value

activities that foster

innovation and growth.”

With that, it is important for

workers to abide by the guidelines

set by their employers to

make sure they are using the

technology responsibly and

can take advantage of its benefits.

and confidentiality risks

Every year, more than 15 million

Americans undergo surgery. For

many, the prospect of having surgery

can feel overwhelming, prompting

worries and unease about recovery.

But the process of having surgery

doesn’t have to be daunting. Simple

steps and habits can make a significant

difference in outcomes.

The American College of Surgeons

(ACS), the largest professional association

of surgeons in the world,

offers a free online resource that

provides patients with practical tips

to navigate their surgical journey.

While there is no “one-size-fitsall”

approach to preparing for and

recovering from surgery, practicing

healthy daily habits and having

candid conversations with your care

team about your goals can greatly

improve your results. Here are a few

pointers:

Eat to heal.

Good nutrition will help at every

step along your surgical journey.

Eating well begins by planning a

nutritious meal that includes a balance

of protein-rich foods, whole

grains, healthy fats, fruits and vegetables

— all of which play a role in nourishing

the body with enough calories,

protein, vitamins and minerals.

The ACS recommends eating at

least three times a day and increasing

fiber intake, if your system

can tolerate it. Aim to include protein-rich

foods with each meal, such

as lean meat, fish, poultry, beans,

eggs, cheese, nuts, tofu, milk, cottage

cheese and yogurt

If you can’t meet your requirements

with meals, consider supplementing

your diet with healthy

snacks, additional proteins or vitamins.

Make sure to stay hydrated,

and drink sufficient water each day.

Before surgery, many patients are

required to temporarily stop eating

and drinking. Your care team will advise

on when it is safe to resume eating

and drinking. Be sure to follow their

recommendations both before and after

surgery and ask any questions.

Engage in healthy habits.

Generally, the more fit and active

you are before surgery, the better you

will function after surgery.

Your care team can work with you

before surgery to improve your fitness,

which can facilitate your recovery

and help you maintain your

strength. Often called “prehabilitation,”

your doctor may recommend

exercises or refer you to specialized

physical therapists who can design

a therapy and exercise plan to target

any physical limitations that you may

be experiencing.

Other risk factors, such as smoking,

obesity and high blood pressure,

are also important to manage before

and after surgery.

Smoking can increase the risk of

complications after surgery, making

it harder for you to recover from anesthesia

and increasing the risk of

infection. If you currently smoke, ask

your surgeon about ways you can quit

smoking. There are many effective

options to help people quit smoking,

including medications and tailored

programs that offer empathetic and

personalized support.

Be empowered to ask questions.

There are many considerations

when making plans to have surgery.

The ACS’s Strong for Surgery guide

and Geriatric Surgery Patient checklist

(facs.org/gsvpatient) include printable

handouts that you can download and

print for free to help you prepare your

questions before an appointment, prepare

your list of medicines and supplements,

and keep track of your notes

during appointments.

Together, these small steps can

make a big difference in surgical outcomes

- and optimize your chances

to stay healthy and strong before and

after surgery.

MACLAY GARDENS (LAKE OVERSTREET)

Although a popular destination for tranquil walks through nature, Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park is also

home to a fantastic mountain-biking trail that winds through the woods before circling Lake Overstreet. This trail

can be combined with the Elinor Klapp-Phipps trail system and the much more challenging Redbug Trail nearby.

PINEY Z LAKE

Located within Lafayette Heritage Trail and adjacent to the J.R. Alford Greenway, Piney Z Lake offers aquatic

adventures for locals and visitors alike. Those at a beginner level will enjoy a leisurely paddle through open

water via kayak or canoe. At the same time, more experienced paddlers can make an easy portage from Piney

Z Lake into Lower Lafayette to begin a 6-mile round trip journey to the western end of the lake and back.

ST. MARKS HISTORIC RAILROAD TRAIL

Pedal along this perfectly paved path as it follows the route of Florida’s first and longest-operating railroad.

Start at the Capital City trailhead and continue to the historic town of St. Marks, where you can finish the

GUN RANGE LOOP/MAGNOLIA TRAIL

Tallahassee’s Gun Range Loop, also known as the Magnolia Trail, is located within the very popular Tom

MISSION SAN LUIS

Although this rugged little nature trail at Mission San Luis doesn’t top a half mile, it gives visitors an

starts at the “Julia Munroe Woodward Nature Trail” sign at the edge of the reconstructed Spanish village,

and it ends at the open grassy hilltop, where the trail emerges just below the reconstructed fortress walls.

ELINOR KLAPP-PHIPPS PARK

Lined with ancient magnolias, massive tulip poplars, and sinuous alluvial streams, Elinor Klapp-Phipps Park

is overflowing with beautiful outdoor scenery. As the city’s most expansive and wild urban park, its 670

acres provide recreation with separate hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trail systems. Unwind as you

hike through any of the park’s three stack loops, each increasing in difficulty and length.

CASCADES PARK

Just seconds away from Florida’s state capitol building, Cascades Park is quickly becoming one of the city’s

most modern, upbeat destinations. Its winding nature trails and paved sidewalks are perfect for a brisk

outdoor jog. When you’re finished, you can cool down beside the park’s colorful interactive water fountain,

or even grab a bite to eat at The Edison.

LAKE BRADFORD

Lake Bradford is located on the southwest side of Tallahassee, adjacent to the Tallahassee Museum. On

APALACHEE REGIONAL PARK

ST. MARKS WILDLIFE REFUGE

Established in 1931 as a wintering home for migratory birds, St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge serves as the gateway

throughout the year. Waterfowl are commonly seen from mid-November through late December; shorebirds are most

common during late spring and early fall; and songbirds arrive from their wintering areas in early spring (April). Multiple

WAKULLA SPRINGS RIVER BOAT TOURS

WAKULLA SPRINGS TRAIL

and bird watching and when you’re done, cool off by jumping into the refreshing spring water.

APALACHEE REGIONAL PARK TRAILS

Showcasing one of Tallahassee’s best running trails, Apalachee Regional Park offers opportunities

for running, hiking, mountain biking and cycling. This multi-use park includes one of the nation’s few

sites designed specifically for cross-country running with multi-surface courses, numerous distance

options through rolling hills, and a 1-mile warm-up trail. This site has hosted state, regional and national

championships and we invite you to take a few laps and run in the footsteps of the world’s best runners.

CASCADES PARK TRAIL

Located in the heart of downtown Tallahassee and directly south of the Florida State Capitol,

this 24-acre park and natural playground offers a variety of outdoor and recreational amenities.

This includes an amphitheater, interactive water fountain, children’s play area, Smokey Hollow

Commemoration and multi-use trails.

These winding trails are perfect for walking, jogging or biking. There are three main trails

in Cascades Park, the whole park loop (1 mile), Bocha Chuba Pond loop (0.65 mile) and the

Smokey Hollow Pond loop (0.5 mile). Altogether, the trails make up 2.3 miles of paved pathways.

LEON SINKS GEOLOGICAL AREA HIKING TRAIL

Witness karst topography at its finest as you wind through the unique terrain of nearly 6

miles of hiking trails inside Leon Sinks Geological Area. This beautiful park contains miles of

trails leading to a series of sinkholes, big and small.

You can choose from three trails that cover a total of more than 5 miles for hiking. Each

trail features over 20 species of trees and 75 different plants, along with wildlife — gopher

tortoises, deer, turkey, hawks, raccoons, snakes and salamanders. All trails are considered

beginner level and are great for people of all ages to explore. There is a $3/day charge for

parking.

LAKE OVERSTREET TRAIL

Bicyclists, joggers, hikers and horseback riders all find an enjoyable off-road experience

on the Lake Overstreet Trails. These paths are smooth with few roots, making them beginner

friendly. However, with the paths dipping in and out of deep ravines, they’re still fun and

challenging for hikers of all levels. These trails connect with Alfred B. Maclay Gardens and

make a wonderful side-trip that’s worth exploring.

ORCHARD POND TRAIL

The unpaved Orchard Pond Road trail spans nearly 3.5 miles and offers plenty of outdoor

recreational activities for visitors. As the newest addition of Leon County’s trail system, the

natural environment attracts hikers, bikers, runners and equestrians. The trailhead can be

accessed via Old Bainbridge Road where accommodations for horse trailers and passenger

vehicles are available. Another trailhead that can only be accessed by passenger vehicles is

located at Orchard Pond Parkway off the toll road.

JR ALFORD GREENWAY TRAIL

In terms of outdoor spaces, the J.R. Alford Greenway is one of Tallahassee’s most popular

parks. With more than 17 miles of multi-use trails, this park features a crushed oyster shell

path, beautiful wooded forests and a gorgeous wooden boardwalk bridge. These wellmaintained

paths are great for running, walking, horseback riding, bird watching and cycling.

ST. MARKS HISTORIC TRAIL

Tracing the route of Florida’s first and longest-operating railroad, the St. Marks Historic Trail

is a great option for hiking, biking, running or skating. This paved trail runs 20.5 miles from

Florida’s capital city to the coastal community of St. Marks.
