Bienestar mental

Un hermoso vídeo de Louie Schwartzberg guio a la audiencia por

los muchos y variados viajes del agua, recordándonos que somos

naturaleza y todos estamos interconectados.

Susie nos invitó a celebrar las nuevas estadísticas que muestran el

crecimiento de la economía mundial del bienestar. Recordó cómo,

en la primera Cumbre, celebrada en Nueva York hace 18 años, el

Dr. Richard Carmona compartió que el 70% de las enfermedades

del mundo son prevenibles. Ese fue el momento 'ah-ha' de Susie

y eventualmente condujo al Wellness Moonshot, lanzado en 2018.

Sarah Livia Brightwood de Rancho La Puerta estudió conservación

del paisaje y mostró cómo la tierra alrededor de Tecate, México, ha

cambiado a lo largo de los años. Rancho La Puerta ahora trata las

aguas residuales para recuperar el agua utilizada en la propiedad e

irriga un parque de 16 hectáreas creado para la ciudad de Tecate.

La planta de tratamiento tiene emisiones netas de carbono cero y

cero residuos, y este modelo puede reproducirse en otros lugares.

Anna Dyson y Christopher Sharples destacaron que para 2030, la

demanda mundial de agua superará a la oferta en un 40% y cerca

de la mitad de la población mundial vivirá en zonas con escasez

de agua. La producción de concreto representa actualmente

casi el 10% del uso industrial mundial de agua, por lo que deben

explorarse materiales alternativos. Ventanas transparentes pueden

recubrirse con una sustancia capaz de recoger el agua del aire, la

energía solar puede transformarse a través de las fachadas de los

edificios y utilizarse para purificar y reutilizar el agua.

Creando comunidad

Jonathan Leary de Remedy Place explicó que el concepto de

clubes sociales de bienestar ha demostrado ser un modelo de

negocio sostenible, ofreciendo espacios diseñados para sanar

y conectar. Con la promesa de salir mejor de lo que entraste,

Remedy Place proporciona una nueva forma de socializar. Nuestra

vida social suele afectar negativamente a nuestra salud, con

alcohol usualmente en el centro de la actividad social para muchas

Beautiful destinations

Wim Hof

Bienestar mental

Jemma King PhD, estudió a 400 participantes, no familiarizados

con el método Wim Hof, para evaluar los efectos de baños de hielo

y duchas frías frente a la meditación. La investigación incluyó un

periodo de dos semanas para recoger datos de referencia, seguido

de una intervención de 4 semanas, con datos de seguimiento

recogidos durante 3 meses. Los participantes practicaron ejercicios

de breathwork, tomaron duchas frías, realizaron pruebas cognitivas

y practicaron baños de hielo semanales. Se observaron beneficios

cognitivos inmediatos, mayor claridad mental, capacidad para

manejar estrés, más energía, mayor precisión mental, mejor

autorregulación y mejor percepción del sueño.

Michael Acton Smith de Calm, compartió que la app Calm fue

creada para hacer accesible la meditación, con el objetivo de

convertirse en la marca de referencia para el rendimiento de la

mente. Michael considera la soledad como uno de los mayores

retos y Calm estudiará cómo conectar a la gente con comunidades

y conseguir que la gente se desconecte, uniéndolos.

Gundeep Anand, The Last Stand, creó una liga de fútbol callejero,

inicialmente en Londres, que reúne a jóvenes desfavorecidos y

adultos jóvenes de 13 a 36 años, tanto hombres como mujeres,

Turismo de bienestar 3.0

Cathy Feliciano-Chon, Finn Partners, y Jeremy Jauncey, Beautiful

Destinations, identificaron tendencias, incluyendo:

Nomadismo: a medida que la gente se desplaza por el mundo,

ahora con la posibilidad de trabajar a distancia, puede permanecer

más tiempo para formar hábitos que cambian la vida durante el

Anna Bjurstam de Six Senses, relató que durante COVID en

2020, perdió el sentido del gusto, decidió tomar psilocibina y ¡al

día siguiente recuperó el sentido del gusto! El placer es parte de

nuestro diseño, nos impulsa a buscar comida y reproducirnos.

Vivir saludablemente es a menudo una batalla entre la fuerza de

voluntad y nuestro deseo innato de placer. ¿Por qué mantenerse

sano se siente como un castigo? El hábito del sufrimiento

voluntario, como baños de hielo, podría comercializarse mejor,

como promover sus beneficios en el estado de ánimo durante

todo el día. ¿Cómo podemos hacer que el bienestar sea adictivo?

¿Por qué dar seguimiento a tu paquete de Amazon es más

gratificante que la confirmación de reserva de un spa? Los

sistemas de puntos funcionan, y los spas no están utilizando

la salud. Si guías con placer, la gente seguirá los programas de

A WATERSHED MOMENT FOR WELLNESS

A beautiful video from Louie Schwartzberg guided the audience

through the many varied journeys of water, reminding us all

that we are nature and we are all interconnected.

Susie Ellis invited us to celebrate the new statistics revealing

the growth of the global wellness economy. She recalled

how, at the first Summit in New York 18 years ago, Dr.

Richard Carmona shared that 70% of the world’s disease

is preventable. That was Susie’s ‘ah-ha’ moment and led

eventually to the Wellness Moonshot, launched in 2018. Susie

posed the question “What can we accomplish together that

we cannot alone?” The collaboration that happens at the

GWS shapes the future of wellness around the globe.

Nancy Davis welcomed the audience, reminiscing about the

previous night’s inaugural party - where over 500 attendees

from 43 countries enjoyed St. Andrew’s lobster, a bagpipe

performance, and an impressive fireworks display.

Water

J. Carl Ganter, Circle Of Blue, spoke about the current

challenge of water. Water has historically determined the rise

and fall of civilizations, and with the looming threat of water

scarcity, the stakes have never been higher. Dehydration can

incapacitate individuals within days, and the cost of inaction

on water management could soar to $3.1 trillion USD. Mexico

City came close to a ‘Day Zero’ (running out of water), while

contaminated water in India jeopardizes food safety.

Climate is water, the cycles are changing and via water, we will

experience these changes. The solutions to these challenges

do exist. The goal is to have all organizations communicating

and collaborating to work together. The only hope for water’s

future is one that we deliberately design.

Sarah Livia Brightwood of Rancho La Puerta studied landscape

conservation, and showed how the land around Tecate,

Mexico, has changed over the years. Rancho la Puerta now

treats wastewater to reclaim the water used at the property

and irrigates a 40-acre (16-hectare) park created for the city of

Tecate. The treatment plant is net carbon zero and zero waste

and this model can be replicated in other locations.

Anna Dyson and Christopher Sharples highlighted that by

2030, global water demand will outstrip supply by 40% and

about half of the world's population will live in water-scarce

areas. Concrete production currently accounts for almost 10%

of global industrial water use, therefore alternative materials

must be explored. Clear windows could be coated with a

substance that can collect water from the air, solar energy can

be transformed through building facades and used to purity

water for re-use.

Authors and wild swimming experts, Anna Deacon & Vicky

Allan, started taking pictures of wild swimmers in the winter

and asking swimmers about their experience. Wild swimming

was helping people cope with grief, and overcome a variety

of challenges, including physical and mental health issues.

Combining wild swimming with sauna helps to attract those

who are less enthusiastic about the cold water experience on

its own.

Robert Hammond of Therme US, explained how water is

central to gathering. Bathing, which combines physical

wellbeing, social interaction, and spiritual connection, has

deep roots across many cultures. Roman baths, Middle

Eastern Hammam and Turkish baths, Japanese onsen pools

and Finnish saunas all created gathering spaces. Bathing has

always been a social infrastructure, we must remember the

pleasure of bathing!

Christoper Barrett, of Worldsprings, shared research showing

that 68% of the US population believe that water helps them

feel good about themselves. Spending time near water is

essential to elevating and sustaining happiness. WorldSprings

endeavors to bring bathing experiences to urban settings by

creating large-scale developments that blend international

traditions with modern wellness facilities. Community has

always been part of the hot springs experience, they also have

specifically designed circuits for physical recovery, stress,

or another conditions. With a maximum capacity of 3000

people, and entrance fees from $60 to $95 USD, WorldSprings

facilities create an affordable wellness activty. They require

$50-60 million USD of investment to develop.


Optimism

David Stewart of Ageist shared new data on mindset and

wellness, showing that 70% of your health is determined by

your behavior, not your genetics. Are you an optimist? This

mindset has been shown to be good for your health! Actions

follow beliefs, those who believe they will live a long life, will

prepare for this. Optimists are four times as likely to invest

in wellness-promoting behaviors. There is a clear correlation

between optimism and life-extending behaviors. Pessimism,

on the other hand, is a stress state which leads to epigenetic

damage in the body. Increase optimism by practicing gratitude,

self-compassion, reframing negative situations, engaging in

acts of kindness and visualizing your best possible future.

AI And Compassion

Victor Koo, of Tianren Culture, invited us to ‘Be Like Water’,

exploring the concepts of regenerative vs generative, natural

vs artificial, wisdom vs intelligence. Water, he explained,

cleanses, self-cleanses, and converges. In our world, we

have a mental health crisis, geopolitical conflicts, a pandemic

and climate change. Can we rebuild connections via ancient

wisdom, community, practices and service? Via the creation of

the Compassion Bot, AI can advise on wellness practices and

lifestyle recommendations in a matter of seconds. Try it here:

Isaac Jones, Health Experts Alliance, claimed that AI will

become a powerful tool in the coming years and is already

being used in medicine. New innovations allow the creation

of an AI Nurse to aid with patient discovery and diagnostics,

even helping to discover errors that can occur when multiple

physicians treat a patient. The future must include education

of the consumer so that asymptomatic people take an active

role in their health, wellness and longevity.

Creating Community

Jonathan Leary of Remedy Place explained that the concept

of social wellness clubs has now proven to be a sustainable

business model, offering spaces designed for healing and

connection. With the promise of leaving better than you came

in, Remedy Place provides a new way to socialize. Our social

lives often negatively affect our health, with alcohol typically

at the center of the social activity for many people. Changing

habits to improve your wellness can often leave people with no

social life. However, lacking social connection is as dangerous

as six alcoholic drinks per day! A lack of social connection

has drastic effects on health. What if we could shift our social

activities to healthier ones? Social self-care will make us

healthier!

Jemma King

Biopsychanalytics

Mental Wellness

Jemma King PhD, studied 400 participants, unfamiliar with

the Wim Hof Method, to assess the effects of ice baths and

cold showers versus meditation. The research included two

weeks of baseline data collection, a four-week intervention,

and follow-up data collected for three months. Participants

practiced breathwork, took cold showers, performed

cognitive tests, and practiced weekly ice baths. Immediate

cognitive benefits were seen, better mental clarity, ability to

handle stress, more energy, better mental accuracy, better

self-regulation and better-perceived sleep.

Michael Acton Smith of Calm, shared that the Calm app was

created to make meditation accessible, aiming to become

to go-to brand for performance of the mind. Michael sees

loneliness as one of the biggest challenges and Calm will look

at how to connect people with communities and get people

offline, bringing them together.

El Wanderlust Wellness Festival en Palmaïa Resort fue una

vibrante celebración de salud, bienestar y comunidad, con el

impresionante fondo del follaje tropical y el brillante color turquesa

del mar Caribe. Celebrado en diciembre de 2024, el festival tuvo una

variedad de actividades enriquecedoras, abarcando desde movimiento

a educación, meditación, una sesión de grabación de pódcast en vivo y

una celebración de discoteca silenciosa.

Un momento destacado fue el concierto meditativo, una experiencia de

sanación con sonido celebrada en la espaciosa terraza Gaïa, rodeada

de manglares y bajo la sombra de altos árboles. Dirigidos por el

talentoso René Nájera, los participantes quedaron envueltos en sonidos

y vibraciones relajantes, mientras los instrumentos de René creaban una

atmósfera serena para la profunda relajación e introspección.

El festival incluyó una sesión educativa sobre ‘Ayurveda y Biohacking’ con

la Dra. Siva Mohan, donde los asistentes aprendieron como principios

ancestrales del Ayurveda pueden aplicarse a técnicas modernas de

The Wanderlust Wellness Festival at Palmaïa Resort was a

vibrant celebration of health, wellness, and community,

set against the stunning backdrop of tropical foliage and

the bright turquoise Caribbean Sea. Held in December 2024, the

festival featured a variety of enriching activities, ranging from

movement to education, meditation, a live podcast recording

session, and a silent disco celebration.

One highlight was the meditative concert - a sound healing

experience held on the spacious Gaïa Deck surrounded by

mangroves and shaded by tall trees. Led by the talented René

Nájera, participants were enveloped in soothing sounds and

vibrations, as Rene’s instruments created a serene atmosphere for

deep relaxation and introspection.

The festival featured an educational session on ‘Ayurveda &

Biohacking’ with Dr. Siva Mohan, where attendees learned how

the ancient principles of Ayurveda can be applied to modern

biohacking techniques to enhance overall well-being. This blend

of traditional and contemporary approaches offered valuable

insights into personal health optimization.

Exquisite vegan cuisine played a significant role in the festival, as

guests consciously nourished both the body and soul, enjoying

delicious, healthy, plant-based meals that were creatively

prepared, showcasing the diversity of vegan cooking.

As the sun set, festival-goers gathered for a cacao ceremony, a

ritual that celebrates the heart-opening properties of cacao. This

ceremony provided a moment of reflection and connection, as

participants set their intentions while enjoying the rich, ceremonial

drink under the ‘mushroom’ canopy - a beachside structure

inspired by these mystical ingredients with magical healing

properties.

To close the festival, a silent disco celebration allowed guests to

dance the night away under the stars. With headphones providing

a choice of music, attendees immersed themselves in the rhythm

while enjoying the unique experience of a silent party, fostering

a sense of community and encouraging participants to explore

movement.

estricto cumplimiento de la normativa sanitaria

Las áreas de hidroterapia juegan un papel

primordial. Siendo el alma del spa, es vital tener

documentado los análisis del agua, niveles

de pH y cloro de cada piscina, temperaturas

y humedad relativa, señalética por áreas e

instalaciones libres de óxido y cualquier tipo de

hongo generado por el exceso de humedad.

El cumplimiento normativo garantiza la

The first step is identifying the business model: spa, medspa, or

beauty salon. Each sector has specific requirements, including:

• Municipal, state and federal notifications, permits and licenses.

• Certified personnel, for example, having documentation issued by

the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) in Mexico.

• Approved supplies (cosmetic products)

• Adherence to internal procedures.

To meet these requirements, wellness businesses need:

• A detailed health and hygiene handbook for services and facilities.

• Consumer protection-compliant registration forms, for example,

liability waivers and health history.

• Safety folder containing technical data sheets and patient charts.

use and consumption.
