IN HIS
WORDS
"I am Anthony Green, a cybersecurity
professional, entrepreneur, and
community builder based in Vancouver.
My career has never followed a
conventional path, and I have always
been driven by a desire to push
boundaries and empower others. My
journey through technology, education,
and innovation began to take shape
during my first year of post- secondary
education when I realized I had an
entrepreneurial mindset. At the time, I
noticed an opportunity in the digital
marketing space? established agencies
were charging high fees for web
development and online marketing
services. I knew I could deliver better
results at a fraction of the cost. With two
close friends, I began building websites
and implementing search engine
optimization strategies. That experience
proved to me that I could transform my
technical skills into real value for clients,
sparking the entrepreneurial fire that
continues to guide me.
"My earliest ventures, however, started
long before I set foot in higher
education. As a young teenager, I found
myself selling ?hacks? for an online
game through specialized forums. While
it did not make me a fortune, for a 13 or
14- year- old, the steady stream of
income felt like a windfall. More
importantly, it taught me a powerful
lesson: if you can identify a market
need? even one hidden in an online
gaming community? and meet it with a
solution, you can create value from
almost nothing.
"That simple insight laid the foundation
for the entrepreneurial mindset I carry to
this day.
"Not every venture I pursued led to
success. In 20 18, I took a deep dive into
cryptocurrency, initially watching my
investments soar by over 10 0 0 %.
However, like many, I fell into the trap of
greed, pouring my gains into speculative
?meme coins? and ultimately losing
nearly everything. Though the experience
was painful, it taught me critical lessons
about discipline, risk management, and
distinguishing between technological
fundamentals and market hype. Despite
my skepticism toward
crypto-speculation, I remain a believer in
blockchain's transformative potential.
Each setback has taught me caution, and
every success has fueled my ambition.
"Over time, my entrepreneurial journey
merged with my passion for
cybersecurity. My early interests were in
psychology and kinesiology. For nearly
a decade, I coached senior boys?
basketball, a role that taught me how to
lead, mentor, and inspire? skills that have
been invaluable in my transition to the
technology sector. When I shifted focus
and enrolled at BCIT, I discovered that
cybersecurity perfectly aligned with my
analytical mindset, love for continuous
learning, and drive to make a community
impact.
"My earliest cybersecurity role was at
London Drugs. I started in a technical
support position, working closely with
hardware, but quickly transitioned into a
full-time security analyst role. I led major
initiatives like Payment Card Industry
Data Security Standard (PCI DSS)
compliance? projects that required
strategy, precision, and foresight. This
role gave me a solid foundation in
corporate security culture and the ability
to influence it from within."
007
"It also proved that effective security
solutions could come from local talent,
not just global consulting firms. By the
time I left, I had gained a nuanced
understanding of how to integrate
security into a company?s operations
while maintaining its business objectives.
"Today, I lead security operations and
compliance for the Chartered
Professional Accountants of British
Columbia (CPABC). When I joined, there
was no formal cybersecurity team? just
me. Over the past five years, I have built
a dedicated security unit from the
ground up. We are now a team of four
specialists tackling complex security
challenges. Under my leadership, CPABC
does more than meet compliance
standards; we set new benchmarks,
demonstrating that professional
membership organizations can have
robust and scalable cybersecurity
strategies. Mentoring is a key part of my
approach, and I take pride in helping
junior team members grow into skilled
professionals who can navigate the
rapidly evolving threat landscape.
"I owe a lot to individuals who shaped
my path. In cybersecurity, professionals
like Justin M alzew ski, M ichael Argast,
M ary Carmichael, and Ritchie Po
provided mentorship, guidance, and
support. They encouraged me when
challenges arose and offered invaluable
feedback on strategy and growth.
"On the business front, mentors like
Jonathan N iednagel and Sergey
Bhukarov taught me how to pitch more
effectively. Their advice on approaching
investors and articulating my vision in a
concise, compelling manner was
transformative. Without their belief in my
capabilities, I might not have had the
confidence to take these big leaps.
"When I took leadership at ISACA
Vancouver, the group had been
diminished by the pandemic. Initially, our
events had 20 - 30 attendees, but by the
end of my term, we saw nearly 30 0 at
our AGM on Amazon?s Post rooftop. This
was not just a numerical achievement; it
represented a cultural shift in how
Vancouver?s cybersecurity professionals
viewed their potential.
"Under my leadership, ISACA Vancouver
embraced inclusivity, mentorship, and
diversity. Initiatives like She Leads Tech
and youth scholarships inspired the next
generation to pursue cybersecurity
careers. By fostering networking,
workshops, and events, I helped
transform ISACA Vancouver into a vibrant
hub in Western Canada?s cybersecurity
ecosystem.
"My passion for education is equally
evident in my teaching roles. I was the
first dedicated cybersecurity instructor
at UBC?s Extended Learning
department, where I have been teaching
for over three years. I developed a
micro-credential program in Cloud
Security Fundamentals and the
Attacker?s M indset, ensuring students
receive cutting-edge training aligned
with industry needs. At Vancouver
Community College (VCC), I serve as
Lead Curriculum Developer for the
Governance, Risk, and Compliance
(GRC) program, the first of its kind in BC.
"By integrating business principles into
cybersecurity education, the GRC
program offers a comprehensive
approach that prepares graduates to
excel in both strategic and technical
aspects of the field.
"My influence is not confined to the local
cybersecurity scene. My teaching work
has taken me internationally, including
training instructors at the BlackBerry
Cybersecurity Centre in M alaysia."
009
"As the Director of Business
Development for Eureka Dev Sec Ops,
a Vancouver-based cybersecurity
startup, I contribute to shaping the next
generation of technological solutions by
offering strategic advice and building
key partnerships. Additionally, I serve as
an ambassador for In- Sec- M , Canada?s
cybersecurity innovation cluster, where
I help connect Vancouver-based startups
and scale-ups with international markets
and opportunities. Through trade
missions, advisory roles, and thought
leadership, I work tirelessly to ensure that
Vancouver?s cybersecurity sector earns
its rightful place on the global stage.
"This multifaceted involvement in
cybersecurity? spanning technical
leadership, community building,
curriculum development, and global
advocacy? underscores my commitment
to empowerment. I believe Vancouver,
often overshadowed by larger tech hubs,
can shine as a beacon of cybersecurity
innovation. By mentoring new talent,
guiding seasoned professionals, and
creating educational frameworks for
diverse communities, I have helped
elevate Vancouver?s security profile,
making it a place where cutting- edge
ideas thrive.
"However, my ambitions extend beyond
cybersecurity. I am also the CEO and
co- founder of OpenRep, an AI-powered
organic digital marketing platform
designed to democratize marketing in
the same way Canva revolutionized
graphic design. Before tools like Canva,
creating professional-grade visual
content required expertise in complex
software like Adobe Photoshop or
Illustrator. Canva eliminated these
barriers, enabling anyone to create
stunning designs with intuitive tools.
OpenRep aims to achieve a similar
transformation in the world of organic
marketing.
"Traditionally, effective social media
marketing and search engine
optimization (SEO) demanded
specialized skills. Businesses often
needed to hire full- time marketers or
pay agency fees to create impactful
content. The technical learning curve for
each platform, combined with the
challenge of crafting messages that
resonate authentically with audiences,
was a significant barrier. OpenRep
addresses this by simplifying the process:
users provide a few bullet points, and the
platform generates platform-specific
captions tailored for LinkedIn, Tw itter,
Instagram, and other channels. Those
same bullet points can even be
transformed into long-form,
SEO-optimized articles ready to rank on
Google and Bing.
"In essence, OpenRep breaks down
barriers that have long prevented small
business owners, consultants, thought
leaders, and non-marketers from
confidently building their digital
presence. By distilling complex
marketing tasks into an accessible,
AI- driven w orkflow , OpenRep
empowers users to focus on their core
expertise? whether running a local café,
managing a boutique law firm, or
developing cutting-edge cybersecurity
solutions? while maintaining a consistent,
professional, and engaging online
presence.
"The timing for OpenRep could not be
better. With AI tools evolving rapidly,
OpenRep showcases how automation
and machine learning can bridge the
gap that often holds businesses back
from realizing their full potential. Much
like I once automated processes at my
digital marketing company and later
used GPT technologies to optimize
workflows, OpenRep leverages
automation to eliminate complexity."
"Currently, my team and I are raising a
pre- seed round for OpenRep, with plans to
launch a go- to- market strategy in January
20 25.
"Our focus is on refining the product,
onboarding initial customers, and collecting
valuable feedback to guide further
development.
"By the end of 20 24, I envision OpenRep as
a polished, validated platform with a
dedicated user base. With those proof
points, we aim to make a major push in
20 25, solidifying OpenRep?s position as an
indispensable tool for professionals and
businesses looking to amplify their digital
presence without needing a marketing
degree.
"This blend of entrepreneurial vision,
technical expertise, and community focus
reflects the synergy of my entire career.
My journey is about more than personal
achievements; it demonstrates how
individuals can help shape entire
ecosystems.
"In cybersecurity, I helped transform
Vancouver?s community from a modest
gathering of professionals into a thriving,
recognized entity that supports its members
and influences industry trends.
"In education, I have developed
cutting-edge curricula, built talent
pipelines, and equipped rising professionals
with the tools and knowledge they need to
secure our digital future.
"As a business leader, I am reimagining
digital marketing to make it accessible to
everyone.
"Vancouver is on the verge of significant
growth in technology and cybersecurity,
and I am proud to have contributed to
laying the groundwork.
"Today, the city's cybersecurity events draw
large crowds, top- tier speakers, and a
strong sense of excitement. Local startups
no longer need to rely on Silicon Valley or
Toronto for mentorship; these resources are
increasingly available here, supported by
leaders who believe in Vancouver?s
potential as a global cybersecurity hub.
Students graduating from UBC and VCC
now enter the workforce with both
technical skills and a comprehensive
understanding of success in complex,
regulated industries. Companies that once
struggled with their digital presence can
turn to OpenRep for a cost-effective
solution.
"My journey? from teenage side hustles to
building a digital marketing firm, from
setting cybersecurity standards at CPABC to
revitalizing Vancouver?s largest
cybersecurity association, from teaching
international audiences to launching a
platform that democratizes marketing? has
been a continuous evolution. It is a story of
rising to challenges, finding ways to
innovate, and sharing knowledge so others
can do the same.
"As 20 24 draws to a close, my goals are
clear. I want OpenRep to stand as a
beacon of accessible marketing
technology. I want Vancouver?s
cybersecurity scene to continue flourishing,
attracting more talent, investments, and
recognition. I want my students and
mentees to step confidently into their
futures, armed with the wisdom and skills I
have helped them develop. Ultimately, I
want to prove that a city like Vancouver,
often overshadowed by larger tech hubs,
can produce w orld- class leaders,
educators, innovators, and entrepreneurs
who leave a lasting mark on the global
stage!"

IN HER
WORDS
"I accidentally began my
entrepreneurial journey at age 11. I loved
crafting, and my school supplies were
always the wackiest I could find. One
day, inspiration struck: I made
bookmarks out of jazzy dividers, scissors,
a hole puncher, and yarn pom-poms.
These bookmarks were unlike anything I
had seen, and I was excited to show
them off. I started with prototypes for my
family, but soon, the idea of selling them
captivated me. My younger brother,
Chandler, and I began producing
bookmarks in assembly-line style.
"We needed a way to sell them. Without
a car or much adult involvement, I
decided we would sell door to door in
our Edmonton neighbourhood, like
Girl Guides selling cookies. Armed with
a shoebox of bookmarks, a handmade
sign, and my nervous yet eager brother,
we approached our first house.
"M rs. Stanley, the mother of Chandler?s
friend, greeted us warmly. When she
asked the price, I panicked and blurted
out two prices. She gently explained that
I needed a single price covering my
costs and yielding profit. Her advice
changed how I thought about business.
She bought two bookmarks, and though
our sales that day were modest, the
experience sparked a passion that
shaped my future.
"At 12 years old, I produced my first
event. I was passionate about dance,
theatre, and the performing arts, with
The Phantom of the Opera leaving a
lasting impression on me after seeing it
with my mom.
"The music and performances stayed
with me, and I dreamed of being on a
grand stage someday.
"It was the early 1990 s, and
glow-in-the-dark items were all the
rage. My room was decorated with stars,
I wore glow ing Keds, and my brother
Chandler had glowing Construx toys.
"One day, inspired by my love for
Phantom, I decided to create my own
play. I pitched the idea to our
neighbours, three boys close to my age.
At first, they thought I was crazy, but I
convinced them to join me.
"I directed the show in our friend's
basement, choreographing dance
routines since I was taking dance
classes. The twist? Everything had to be
glow - in- the- dark! The boys agreed,
especially when I promised they would
make money from ticket sales.
"After selling tickets to our parents and
neighbours, we were ready to perform.
The show, a mix of dance, acrobatics,
and random props like Construx toys,
was unique and chaotic. We divided the
profits equally, and though the snacks
were ?borrowed? from our parents?
pantries, they could not help but admire
my creativity.
"My family lived on the 14th hole of a
golf course in Edmonton. My parents and
brother were avid golfers, and I played
too, mostly because I had no choice.
However, living on a golf course
opened up exciting entrepreneurial
opportunities for my brother and me.
"A few times each summer, we would trek
into the ravines, collecting dozens of
golf balls that had been mis-hit off the
tee. We would clean them at home, and
my parents supported this routine since
they never had to buy golf balls."
019
"One summer, I had an idea. With so
many balls, why not sell them back to the
golfers? Since we lived on the 14th hole,
we could easily set up a stand. I
convinced my brother Chandler to join
me, found an old table, and created a
" $1/ ball" sign with my neat penmanship.
The next day, we set up shop.
"Sales were slow at first, so I thought of
another idea: sell drinks. Golfers often
stopped at the snack shack, and by the
14th hole, they would be thirsty again.
The next day, I filled a cooler with drinks
from our pantry. Sales picked up
quickly? until our parents found out.
When my dad asked where the beer had
gone, I confessed. He was both mad and
impressed, but I learned a valuable
lesson about profit margins.
JEN N A' S JEWELLERY
"Jewellery has always been a passion of
mine, so it was only natural that I would
eventually start making my own. As a
child, I loved visiting bead stores and
would beg my mom to take me so I could
stock up on colourful seed beads and
fishing line. I quickly amassed so many
beads that I could have made necklaces
for the entire school! My allowance was
entirely spent on this hobby, but it
brought me immense joy.
"After creating countless necklaces,
bracelets, and anklets, I decided to sell
them. One day, I packed a bag with my
best pieces and visited a consignment
store in downtown Edmonton. By then, I
was in high school, and my sales skills
had improved since my bookmark
business days.
"The store owner agreed to sell my
jewellery on consignment, which felt like
my first real entrepreneurial success. She
asked for an order form, a concept I had
not considered. My dad, ever the
business expert, helped me create one.
"I named my business Jenna?s Jew ellery
Co., designed a logo with scissors and
glue, and printed order forms. The sales
were modest, but I learned valuable
lessons in packaging, pricing, and trends.
Later, I partnered with a store owner at
the University of Alberta mall, which led
me to produce macramé jewellery with
help from my family. Together, we met
the growing demand.
BOOTY BELTZ
"In 20 0 3, I started my first ?big girl?
company, Booty Beltz, as a project for a
marketing class at the University of
Alberta. A Booty Belt was a simple yet
stylish scarf belt with a buckle, making it
easy to take on and off.
"At the time, it was a trendy accessory,
and after creating a business plan for it,
I was filled with passion. Upon
graduation, I decided to pursue the idea
full-time, ignoring any doubts or fears.
"I began by visiting local stores in
Edmonton, showing buyers my belts and
pitching the product. As the demand
grew, I expanded to Calgary, M ontreal,
Toronto, and Vancouver. Within a year,
Booty Beltz were sold in more than
30 stores across Canada. At 24 years
old, I was eager to build a fashion
empire, so I took a huge step and signed
up for the M AGIC tradeshow in Las
Vegas, the largest apparel show in the
world.
"The first few days of MAGIC were
discouraging, with no orders. But on the
final day, my brother Chandler worked
his magic, and a department store from
Japan placed an order for 60 locations.
"This was a game-changer, and I quickly
scaled up production, moving from a
small crew to a factory in Edmonton.
"However, as trends shifted, sales began
to slow. Then, I was invited to share a
booth at an art festival in Edmonton."
021
"Selling directly to customers was a
revelation. It was exciting, and the
experience reignited my passion for the
business. I started travelling across
Canada to craft fairs, music festivals,
and more, ultimately selling more than I
had when Booty Beltz was in 120 stores.
M AKE IT
"In the mid- 20 0 0 s, craft fairs were not
considered the trendy events they are
today. However, I noticed the rise of
handmade, DIY culture as Etsy gained
popularity and saw an opportunity to
revamp craft fairs to attract a younger
crowd. A few months later, a friend and
I launched our first show, complete with
live music and a bar.
"Within a year, the event grew from 25
to over 10 0 exhibitors. Encouraged by
the growth, I wanted to expand to
other cities, but my business partner
and I parted ways. At the time, my
brother Chandler, who had started his
own T-shirt company, Ole Originals, to
cater to men dragged to craft fairs,
showed a keen interest in my business.
We joined forces in 20 0 8 and launched
M ake It.
"Our first Vancouver event at the
Roundhouse Community Centre was a
success, and we moved to the Croatian
Cultural Centre for the next three
years. In 20 13, we made a leap to the
45,0 0 0 - square- foot PN E Forum,
attracting over 15,0 0 0 visitors.
"In 20 16, a Toronto company offered to
buy Make It, but I had a change of
heart. Chandler was ready to sell, so I
bought him out in the winter of 20 16.
Since then, I have poured my passion
into Make It, expanding to new cities
and venues, including Edmonton,
Calgary, and Vancouver, and growing
the brand with each step.
M AKE IT: THE BOOK
"For a long time, I dreamed of w riting a
book to share my journey and the
lessons I have learned along the way.
"Eventually, I decided to commit to the
project and turn it into reality. Writing a
book turned out to be far more
challenging than I expected.
"While I enjoyed brainstorming,
interviewing interesting people, and
sharing ideas, there were difficult
moments when the writing simply would
not flow. Sitting at a computer for hours,
especially on sunny days, became
painful.
"The editing process was another
hurdle, as I sent my work to someone
who helped refine it, often questioning
my ideas.
"Publishing a book also exposed me to
potential criticism, adding to the
pressure. Yet, despite the many reasons
to quit, I knew I would always wonder
what could have been. I pushed
through, embraced the challenges, and
made my book happen.
CON SCIOUS LAB
"In 20 17, I visited my friend Ashley Wray
at her office in Gastow n. I was
immediately captivated by the space
on Richards Street . The combination of
exposed bricks, high ceilings, and
curved windows made it feel like a
magical portal.
"At that time, my Make It team was
working out of a smaller space nearby,
and I had not considered moving to a
larger office. However, when Ashley
mentioned she was trying to find
someone to take over her lease, I knew
it was meant to be. I did not have a
concrete plan for the space, but I felt
drawn to it."
023
"In early 20 20 , I discovered I was
pregnant. My fiancé, Orson, and I had
been trying for about a year, and we
were excited to be expecting our baby
in October. But then, the pandemic hit.
Our spring Make It show in Edmonton
was cancelled, and a week before it
was scheduled, the national shutdown
was announced. It was devastating but
also a relief.
"We quickly pivoted, launching the
M ake It Box featuring items from our
Makies. Just days after our son Arlo was
born on October 8, I was curating items
from my bed while Orson packed and
shipped nearly 1,0 0 0 boxes before the
holidays.
"In 20 21, large events were still heavily
impacted by government mandates.
One day, gatherings were allowed, and
the next, they were not. It was a
precarious time for the events industry,
but we decided to hold on to the lease
for Conscious Lab.
"Personally, it was a wonderful
escape? a space to dream about the
future. Sometimes, I would bring my
Ragdoll cat, Biscuit, who loved curling
up in the plants and meditation
cushions.
"During the shutdown, Orson and I
slowly refined Conscious Lab,
combining our skills to update the
space. As the world began to reopen,
demand for Conscious Lab grew.
"We started receiving more bookings,
and it became clear there was a strong
need for spaces where people could
gather and connect. Soon, Conscious
Lab was hosting breathw ork,
meditation, and transformative
events, becoming a well-known hub for
community.
"Moving forward, Conscious Lab is
evolving into a membership community
for entrepreneurs who wish to grow
both their businesses and themselves. I
believe entrepreneurship is a spiritual
journey, and the most important asset
to invest in is yourself. From my
experience and seeing others, I know
how intense the journey can be.
Sustaining personal growth while
connecting with others on a similar path
is essential.
"I envision Conscious Lab as a hub for
founders, visionaries, and
entrepreneurs to share ideas and learn
from each other. It will offer long- table
dinner parties, impactful speakers,
w ellness events, and a mastermind
component to exchange wisdom and
navigate the highs and lows of business.
"Though many membership clubs exist,
few focus on the mind- body- spirit
connection. Neglecting yourself can
hinder even the best business models.
Burnout is a leading cause of business
failure, and I know firsthand that
overcoming it requires a strong
community.
"In five years, I see Conscious Lab
expanding globally with spaces in
multiple cities. It will be a sacred space
where entrepreneurs can be authentic,
access resources, and enjoy engaging
events. We also envision integrating
family life into Conscious Lab, including
childhood education initiatives that
empower children to turn their ideas
into reality? fostering entrepreneurship
from a young age is more vital than
ever."

IN HER
WORDS
"My family immigrated from Fiji to
Vancouver in 1974 when I was 4 years
old. My parents, like many Indian
parents at the time, sought better
opportunities and chose Vancouver for
its colder climate. Growing up in East
Vancouver, I attended the same schools
and built lifelong friendships with my
best friends from an early age. Our
weekends were spent with extended
family, celebrating milestones and
sharing meals in a tight-knit, supportive
community.
"We had a strict upbringing? no sports
teams, after-school activities, or
makeup until after high school.
Ironically, I dreamed of modelling and
later walked in a few fashion shows in
my 20 s. As a child, I often daydreamed
about creative pursuits like dancing or
starting a business. These early
aspirations planted the seeds for my
entrepreneurial spirit, even as I
followed a traditional path, studying
accounting and briefly exploring
fitness, journalism, and other careers.
Over time, I discovered I was meant for
a career that combined creativity,
independence, and shaping my success.
A LIFE SHARED
"My husband and I went to the same
high school but never spoke. I was the
?Colors of Benetton/ Madonna? type,
and he was the ?Storm Rider/ AC/ DC?
guy. We crossed paths again at the gym
in 20 0 1, and realized we had shared
the same friends our whole lives.
"After we became a couple, in 20 0 5,
we bought our first home in N orth
Burnaby.
"After reading Eat, Pray, Love, I
became obsessed with getting married
in Bali. True to his ?island time? nature,
he took his time proposing, so I bought
my wedding dress and hid it for months!
In 20 11, we tied the knot in Bali after 10
years together? it remains one of our
best memories. Sadly, we were unable
to have children. After a couple of
miscarriages, we decided to let life
unfold naturally as the emotional toll of
trying became too much.
"I have always loved travel. As a child,
my family would go on road trips to
California, exploring places like the
San Diego Zoo and visiting relatives in
Sacramento and San Francisco. As I
grew older, I travelled further: N apa
Valley, M exico, Las Vegas, LA,
Australia, Fiji, N ew Zealand, and
Copenhagen. I have enjoyed
adventures with my husband to M exico,
Belize, M iami, Jamaica, Portland,
Seattle, Whistler, and Vancouver
Island.
A BUDDIN G EN TREPREN EUR
"In 1991, after two years in the
accounting department at 7- Eleven
Canada Inc., I moved into an Admin
role in Operations, where I discovered
my passion for planning.
"Starting with meetings and department
events, I found joy in organizing and
helping others, which soon spilled into
my personal life. I began planning
family dinners, outings, and small events
for friends, quietly nurturing an interest
in w edding planning.
"By 20 0 4, I transitioned into a
M erchandising and M arketing role,
where I planned national meetings and
conventions, expanding my experience."
029
"In 20 0 7, a friend asked me to plan her
wedding- my first event in 20 0 8? for
just $50 0 ! Seventeen years later, I am
planning her daughter?s wedding in a
castle in Scotland.
"While building my wedding planning
business, I continued working at
7-Eleven, gaining experience across
three departments. However, by 20 14, I
felt unfulfilled and ready for a change.
At 45, after 24 years, I left my stable
career to pursue my dream. Many
thought I was taking a risk, but I knew I
would regret not trying. Shortly after,
7-Eleven hired me to plan their annual
vendor meeting, which led to
organizing a 1,20 0 - person convention
in 20 19.
"Though the convention was a milestone,
it clarified my desire to focus on
weddings and social events. I craved
the creativity, personal connections,
and fun these events bring, steering
away from corporate settings.
"Early in my career, I signed up for
Wedding Wire, a platform connecting
engaged couples with wedding
professionals. A pivotal moment came
when I received an inquiry from the
President of Fruiticana, asking me to
plan his 25th w edding anniversary
celebration. I was honoured and
nervous, feeling like the universe was
telling me I was on the right path.
"The event at the Fairmont Pacific Rim
was magical and remains one of my
favourite projects. The family?s warmth
led to a cherished friendship that has
grown over the years. That inquiry was a
turning point, affirming that my hard
work and passion could build a
successful business.
A N EW CHAPTER
"By the end of 20 19, I had just
celebrated my 50 th birthday. My
business was thriving, I felt amazing, and
life was at its peak. Then, the pandemic
hit, turning everything upside down.
With no income, I faced severe
perimenopause symptoms? night
sweats, memory loss, insomnia, mood
swings, and crippling anxiety.
"In 20 21, my dad passed away, and my
w orld crumbled. Grief and regret
consumed me. At the same time, I
struggled to find steady employment,
with rejection after rejection eroding
my confidence.
"By 20 22, I pushed forward, delivering
some of the best events of my career.
But 20 23 brought new challenges: a
misdiagnosis of depression, an
eventual diagnosis of Grave?s Disease,
and alopecia. While treatments helped,
they came with side effects like weight
gain, leaving me self-conscious.
"Through all of this, perimenopause
remained relentless, making it hard to
feel like myself. In September, I had an
?AHA? moment, accepting the losses,
challenges, and changing relationships
of recent years.
"I share this because midlife as an
entrepreneur? especially as a
woman? is rarely discussed.
Perimenopause, grief, and changing
relationships can feel overwhelming, yet
we are expected to carry on.
"These struggles have made me
stronger and more determined to show
up for myself and my business."
031
TWO KEY ACTION S
"One of the key actions that pushed my
business to the next level was refining
my design process. I transitioned from
simply planning events to designing
them with great detail. I began
creating comprehensive mood boards
that captured every event
element? décor, florals, stationery,
colour palettes, floor plans, food and
beverages, and more. This meticulous
approach became my blueprint for
success, ensuring clients and vendors
had a clear, seamless understanding of
the vision.
"Over the years, I have continually
fine-tuned this process to make it
smoother and more collaborative. I am
also a firm believer that knowledge is
power. Therefore, I constantly seek to
expand my skills and stay current with
trends and innovations in the industry.
Continuous learning, grow th, and
improvement are vital to my success.
"The second pivotal action was
rebranding my business at the end of
20 20 , during the height of the
pandemic. Rather than sitting idle,
I saw this as the perfect opportunity to
elevate my business presence. I
partnered with the talented teams at
Elim Kw ok M arketing and Vanessa
Bucceri Brand & Website Design, who
helped bring my vision to life with a
fresh, sophisticated website and brand
identity.
"This rebrand was a game-changer. It
better represented the level of work I
was producing and helped me connect
with my ideal clients. The new brand
identity set the tone for the future
direction of my business, laying a strong
foundation for continued growth.
"I am deeply grateful for the
unw avering support of my husband,
family, and friends, who have been my
cheerleaders and source of strength
when I needed it most.
"I have built meaningful relationships
within the industry with talented
professionals? planners, decorators,
florists, DJs, and venue teams? whose
collaboration and passion inspire me
daily. I am also fortunate to have had
incredible clients who trusted me with
their most important moments, and
their belief in me has been instrumental
in my journey.
"A recent tragedy in November, when
our best friends lost their 21- year- old
son in a motorcycle accident, became
a profound moment of introspection for
me. I stepped in to help my friends
however I could? something I could do
to show my love and support during
such a heartbreaking time. It reminded
me how important it is to be there for
the people I love while still pursuing the
work that fulfills me.
THE EXPERT APPROACH
"At Kavita Mohan Events, I craft
bespoke w eddings and events that
reflect my clients?visions. With over 30
years of experience planning meetings,
celebrations, and special occasions, I
work with a select number of clients
each year to ensure every detail is
infused with care, creativity, and
precision.
"From concept to completion, I am
deeply involved, curating every
element? from design and décor to
logistics and execution? while
providing my clients with a seamless,
stress- free experience."
033
"What sets Kavita Mohan Events apart is
a refined approach, decades of
expertise, and strong relationships with
top- tier vendors worldwide. Whether an
intimate gathering or a multi-day
celebration, I bring global reach,
creativity, and a dedication to
excellence that transforms life?s most
cherished moments into timeless,
unforgettable experiences.
"To thrive over the next two quarters, my
business needs greater visibility and
reach? on a local, national, and global
scale.
"This means investing in strategic
marketing initiatives, including
elevated content creation, social media
campaigns, and more substantial
features in industry-leading publications
like Forbes, Vogue, Harper?s Bazaar,
Tow n & Country, and business event
outlets. Exposure in these spaces aligns
perfectly with the level of work I
produce.
"I would also like to expand my
corporate and charitable event
offerings. These events challenge me to
think creatively while delivering
meaningful experiences that leave a
lasting impression? a multi-day
conference, a fundraising gala, or an
intimate brand launch.
"Charity w ork also holds a special
place in my heart, as I am passionate
about events that give back to the
community and have a global impact.
My experience as a Committee
M ember, Décor Leader, and Event
Coordinator for the CF Gala
highlighted the importance of planning
meaningful fundraisers.
"Recently, I dedicated six days to
crafting a proposal for an annual
charity fundraiser for an organization
whose core mission profoundly
resonates with me.
"Additionally, I want to grow my network
of collaborators globally, from top- tier
venues to design and floral
professionals who share my vision for
seamless, elevated events. Strengthening
these partnerships will further position
my business as a leader in weddings,
corporate experiences, and charitable
events.
"And lastly, I am ready to scale my
team. Adding exceptional talent will
allow me to take on larger, more
complex projects while maintaining the
high level of service and attention to
detail I am known for.
"Big dreams and even bigger goals? I
have always believed that the
possibilities are endless when you put
yourself out there. I am always thinking
about improving my business and
reflecting on changes that need to be
made. 20 24 marks 10 years of running
my business full-time, with the majority of
my focus on weddings and social events.
"It is almost the end of 20 24, I am proud
to have been featured on M SN , in
Style M e Pretty' s Little Black Book,
Wezoree, and # 1 in two of the Best of
Vancouver lists.
"While I have loved this journey, I have
realized it is time for a shift, I cannot
continue to do everything myself! As I
turn 55 this December, my priorities are
evolving.
"More than anything, I want to strike a
balance: creating extraordinary events
that make an impact and allowing
myself more space to focus on w hat
truly matters? my family, friends, and
the moments we share."

M EET FRA NK IE
Debate has been a lifelong passion
for Frankie Cena, the founder of
FDT Academy, beginning with his first
competition in 8th grade. By grade
12, he started volunteering as a
Debate coach at their high school, a
role they continued for five years.
During this time, the school became a
prominent force in the Debate world,
and the founder witnessed many
young lives transformed through the
power of Debate. Frankie quickly
recognized a significant gap in the
availability of Speech and Debate
opportunities, with coaching typically
reserved for private schools and their
students. By volunteering in a public
school, he was able to provide
opportunities to students who
otherwise might not have had any.
This insight led to the creation of FDT
Academy, with the mission to make
Debate more accessible to all
students.
Since its founding in 20 16, FDT
Academy has remained committed to
offering students the same enriching
experiences that the founder?s first
group of students had? learning about
important issues, travelling globally,
building confidence, and developing
invaluable skills. The academy?s
dynamic team of instructors, many of
whom are former students, works
tirelessly to ensure that every student
achieves their full potential. The goal
is for each student to leave FDT
Academy more confident, articulate,
and prepared to engage meaningfully
IN HIS WORDS
"My earliest memories of
entrepreneurship come from when
I was a kid. I think a lot about the
Tooth Fairy, and I remember always
wanting to wheel and deal with
them? collect my money and
negotiate for more money, as we did
not have a ton of money growing up.
When my parents divorced, they had
to sell the house at a loss, which
meant I lived in financial
circumstances I did not expect.
"I shared a bedroom with my dad and
sister and then lived in cooperative
housing with my mother.
"I remember, for my birthdays, I never
asked for things; I asked for cash.
Ever since I was little, I asked my
entire family for money instead of gifts
because I wanted to choose what to
do with the money? whether saving up
for something big or buying little
things of my choosing."
"When I was 16, I started volunteering
as a debate coach at a local high
school. When I was hired for my first
job as a full-time debate coach at a
private school, I had a eureka
moment: I could start a company
solely dedicated to debate. I saw a
gap and an untapped industry and
knew I could fill it.
"As a high school debate coach, I
pursued that passion and turned it into
a full-time job, a business, and,
eventually, a w hole new industry. I
founded one of the world's first public
speaking and debating schools.
"My entrepreneurial spirit and
unwavering determination brought me
to where I am today. I am the proud
owner of Fostering Debate Talent
Academy and a 30 Under 30 winner.
We now teach over 40 0 students
from around the world, from grades
K?12, with 20 instructors, five
full- time staff, and every title in every
competition.
"Through the academy, I cultivate a
sense of confidence and self-worth in
my students. Drawing from my own
experiences as a kid, I make sure the
students know that their w ins and
losses do not define them but should
motivate them to overcome obstacles.
"I am a self-made entrepreneur and
proud of my journey. I continue to work
on becoming a better teacher and
person every day.
"My journey has been wild. I did not
think I would be an entrepreneur? I
thought I would be a law yer, then a
politician, and eventually the Prime
M inister of Canada. That was always
the plan.
"I went to university, went to business
school, and was planning to go to law
school when I decided to pursue
debate as a full-time job. I employed
my sister and mom full-time, and now
we have a company that has been
incorporated since 20 18. So, the
journey was definitely unexpected.
"That said, it was not an easy journey.
There was no formula to emulate or a
company to mirror. I had to trust my
instincts and slowly grow my company.
I needed to foster genuine, loyal
connections with my students, their
parents, teachers, and others I met
along the way. It was vital that they
trusted my vision in creating FDT and
joined me on the journey.
"My first private lessons with a few
students were in the basement of my
home, but that loyalty is how I have
kept growing.
"We now teach students from all
around the world through virtual
classes that took off during the
pandemic. We have two physical
buildings in Vancouver where we
teach in-person classes and host
tournaments."
039
041
"All my instructors were past students,
and many of my current students
showed interest in working for me. My
family works with me, and that is what
keeps me going.
"It is incredibly rewarding to witness
shy children transform into confident,
self- assured speakers who go on to
change the world. As a coach, I have
the privilege of seeing young people
genuinely come into their own. We
travel the globe, achieve
championship victories, and
celebrate their remarkable growth? it
is deeply fulfilling.
"That was my initial motivation to work
hard at whatever I do, which is why I
still work hard for my company. I did
not want my background to stop me
from achieving my dreams. As a kid, I
was in an international boys' choir,
did musical theatre, was on the
student council, joined the debate
team, and earned a full- ride
scholarship to university.
"I think back, and there are a few key
moments when I knew this would work.
I think the first was being paid an
hourly wage for coaching debate,
and I was like, "Oh my God, I can
make this much money doing this?"
Then, my aunt, who I love dearly and
my hairdresser at the time, would talk
with me about the business. She said
there might be something here and
that I had to figure out how to make
this work and turn it into a company,
not just a job. Chats like that helped
me think of the bigger picture.
"Getting our first office space,
reaching our first 10 0 - student mark,
and receiving my first investment
were all moments where I thought this
could be it.
"Because we grew quickly, I had to
develop game plans immediately. I
got a whole team together, assigned
specific roles, and the pieces came
together. We took on investors, hired
an Operations Director to elevate
everything, ensured that instructors
were super happy, and kept
constantly developing programming.
Ultimately, we focused on delivering
a fantastic product. When I was
coaching by myself with just five
students, the product was excellent,
and we wanted to maintain that level
of quality as w e scaled up.
"Being able to employ my mom and
sister full- time has been pivotal. It is
my favourite part to celebrate in my
business. While my life is extremely
busy, and I do not take any days off, I
do it because I love it and am thankful
for the life I live.
"I have also had to keep hiring new
instructors? local, international, and
online. I have had to relocate to new
buildings, create new materials,
develop branding, and keep up with
marketing and sales.
"Our push to the next level was
incorporating virtual classes into our
program. That opened up an entirely
new market of clients who could now
enjoy our program from anywhere in
the world."
"We have become a one- stop shop
for everything: public speaking and
debate. FDT Academy operates on a
hybrid model: in-person and online
group classes, private coaching, and
on-demand courses. We also facilitate
everything for tournaments, including
travel, flights, accommodations,
registration, and coaching. That means
we constantly communicate with
instructors, parents, and students to
ensure they have everything they need
for success. We connect students with
elite coaches and offer
comprehensive communication,
debate, and public speaking training.
"Our model is unique because we have
different packages for different needs.
Some students come for just a
w eek- long debate camp in the
summer; some join for the school term,
some are granted bursaries, and some
participate with VIP packages.
"I always say: Find your voice? it
matters! Our goal at FDT is to help
young people argue effectively for
their beliefs, discover their passion for
debate, and develop the ability to see
issues from multiple angles. By joining
the academy, they become part of a
community of public speakers
motivated to work hard, hone their
skills, and succeed at debate
competitions worldwide.
"Currently, we have 350 active
students and 3,0 0 0 alumni globally,
and hold the unparalleled distinction
in BC of producing over 40 members
for the Canadian N ational Debate
and Speech Teams.
"Our students achieve national
recognition and strengthen their
university applications, often gaining
acceptance to prestigious institutions
such as Harvard, Oxford, Stanford,
and Cambridge.
"FDT Academy is poised for
exponential grow th, ready to double
our student base and revolutionize the
world of debate education.
"With a goal of reaching 1,0 0 0
students by the end of 20 25, we aim
to expand globally, inspiring the next
generation of communicators and
making debate a recognized and
celebrated sport worldwide. I invite
you to join us as we take debate
education to unprecedented heights!"

IN HER
WORDS
"Entrepreneurship was not a sudden
revelation for me, but a gradual
aw akening. I became restless, stuck in
roles that did not align with my values
and goals. I felt confined within systems
that stifled my grow th, and over time, it
became intolerable. I realized that to
move forward, I needed to proactively
align my life with my values. Letting go of
outdated relationships and structures
allowed me to embrace leadership over
my life and work, carving my path and
making a meaningful impact.
"I began working at 15, first as a busser
and later as a host in a restaurant,
where I learned diplomacy, adaptability,
and how to read a room. I moved into
retail sales, where I continued to
develop my communication skills and
connect with people from all walks of
life. Though shy, each experience pushed
me outside my comfort zone, laying the
foundation for resilience and personal
growth.
"When I worked in restaurants, I became
fascinated with sales and the goal of
maximizing tips. I aimed to sell $2,0 0 0
in a shift and earn at least $20 0 in tips
after tip-out. To gain an edge, I arrived
an hour early, not for hourly pay, but to
claim my section first. In one of the
busiest restaurants in town, arriving late
meant losing tables to other servers,
resulting in wasted time running food
instead of serving guests. I could start
working immediately by showing up
early, making an extra $40 or $50 in tips
each hour, teaching me to maximize my
time and strategize for success.
"In retail, I became focused on
accessory margins. For instance, if a
phone case cost the store $10 and sold
for $30 , I earned a 25% commission on
the $20 profit. I turned work into a game,
constantly challenging myself to
improve. My days were long? opening
the store at 8 am and working late into
the night? but the hard w ork taught me
valuable lessons about time
management, business, and personal
growth.
SWITCHIN G GEARS
"Becoming a DJ felt like stepping into a
whole new identity, unlocking a part of
myself I had not met before. I made
vision boards of what success as a DJ
could look like, and for the first time, I
was not just re-living the same day over
and over again - I was actively taking
steps to change the course of my life.
"That shift gave me the courage to leave
the small tow n I grew up in and finally
move into the city. The path was not
straight, but every twist, detour, and
setback taught me something I did not
know I needed. Looking back, I see how
those events - both big and small -
ranging from boring to tumultuous - were
quietly preparing me to design a life
that felt inspiring and true to my sense of
adventure, fun, and playfulness.
"During the pandemic, I pivoted by
starting a Spotify podcast and
interviewing members of mastermind
groups and DJs I met on Tw itch. It felt
meaningful to share conversations about
ideas and passions that mattered to
them. I also launched a TikTok account
with thought- provoking questions
aimed at helping people reflect on who
they are and why they do what they do.
The account gained traction over time,
but deep down, I knew both were
temporary."
049
"When live events returned, I did not
hesitate. I shut it all down and dove back
into w hat truly fuels me: the electric,
irreplaceable energy of in-person
connection instead of online connection.
Every venture - whether podcasting,
DJing, or producing events - taught me
to see every step as a bridge to the
next, not an endpoint.
A HARD STOP
"I soon realized that after decades of
being on the move, I was burned out,
overcommitted, and desperate to
please everyone. Though I had stability,
the pandemic changed everything. My
job disappeared, and with it, the
purpose that had kept me going.
Suddenly, I was left with time and
uncertainty, forcing me to confront what
I had become.
"The pause made me face the truth: my
lifestyle was unsustainable. My body was
atrophying from limited movement, my
relationships frayed, and my career
crumbled. But in that stillness, something
shifted. I began asking difficult
questions: What am I doing? Why this
w ay? The answers were not easy but
necessary. I set boundaries, redefined
how I worked, and aligned my life with
my values, not others?expectations.
"That period was transformative. Each
year, I grew sharper and more
unapologetically myself. Growth came in
waves, pushing me to rebuild stronger.
The evolution began when I stopped
seeking validation and trusted myself. I
embraced the daring ?w hy not?? and
everything fell into place. I stopped
punishing myself for setbacks and began
loving the process of pursuing something
bigger than myself.
AN IN VESTM EN T IN SELF
"To push my business forward, I invested
strategically in resources, programs,
and services that helped me deepen my
craft and achieve my goals more quickly.
I sought out mentors, coaches, and
mastermind groups, attended
conferences, and learned from experts
who helped me avoid common pitfalls,
save time, and accelerate my progress.
"Building a business is more than just
honing your skills; it is about connecting
with the right people and understanding
the value you can bring to others. That is
why I expanded my services to include
AV solutions and other event add-ons
alongside my DJ work. In doing so, I
addressed a significant gap in the
industry: the misconception that DJs and
AV teams are interchangeable. I have
seen firsthand how planners sometimes
treat us this way, focusing only on the
budget, which makes our exchange
purely transactional. But the reality is
that AV professionals and DJs bring much
more than simply following orders. We
are here to set the tone and shape the
experience - an area where my
expertise lies.
"While many planners excel at
aesthetics and budgeting, they
sometimes miss the bigger picture and
leave us out of crucial conversations.
That is when I decided to step in and
bridge that gap, ensuring that every
piece of the puzzle fits together
seamlessly.
"Taking a holistic approach to event
production, I have worked to integrate
my DJ skills with AV technology, ensuring
every event flows effortlessly."
051
"When everyone involved brings their
best energy and expertise, the result is
an event that truly stands out.
"Building a profitable business I am
proud of has required personal growth -
letting go of old habits, embracing who I
am today, and staying true to my vision.
"One of my most significant
breakthroughs has been resisting the
temptation to overthink or w ait for the
" perfect" moment. This mindset shift has
allowed me to stay focused, remain
agile, and take decisive action, which
has been key in shaping the direction of
my business.
ALON G THE WAY
"I am incredibly grateful to my long-time
clients, Whitelaw Tw ining and Wendy &
Sergio Lisogar- Cocchia, for their
unwavering trust and support. Their
belief in me bringing their events to life
has meant the world, and I cherish the
kindness, generosity, and hospitality they
have shown. It is an honour to work with
such exceptional people.
"A special thanks to Glam Z Gala for
allowing me to manage AV tech, DJ, and
collaborate on visuals for talented
entertainers like the Richmond Dance
Academy and XOM G Pop!
"I also want to express my gratitude to
Aleem Kassam and Victor Kazakov for
trusting me with their wedding guest
experience. Working together, we
created something truly special. These
experiences and relationships have been
pivotal in my journey, and I am beyond
grateful for them.
A N EW IDEN TITY
"I am an ' Experience Architect,?not just
a DJ or event producer; I craft moments
that move people - physically,
emotionally, and socially.
"From w eddings to corporate events, it
is not just about music but about
connection. The world feels fragmented
right now, and my work brings people
together in ways that matter.
"My work is luxury - tailored, thoughtful,
and crafted entirely for you. Whether
your event budget is $1,0 0 0 or
$10 0 ,0 0 0 , the choice to gather is an
indulgence - throwing an event is
indulgent. I want to ensure that every
dollar, minute, and moment counts.
"Therefore, my approach is exclusive; I
only take some opportunities that come
my way, and only some have access to
what I offer. It is a paradox, but it
elevates the experience for everyone
involved.
"It is not about being exclusive for the
sake of it - it is about being intentional
with whom I work so that we can
co- create something extraordinary
together.
"I have a unique ability to read the
energy in any room, understand different
personalities, and guide them in creating
a positive atmosphere. It is challenging,
but it is at the heart of my work? helping
people leave feeling uplifted.
"I work with clients ready to embrace
uncertainty and invest in high-quality
events as a strategic step toward
enhancing their brand and creating
memorable experiences.
"I wholeheartedly believe live events
have the pow er to transform lives. Your
network is your net worth, and the
proper connection at the right moment
can completely shift the course of your
life. You never know, the person you meet
today could be the one who propels you
to your next big opportunity."
053
GROWTH M IN DSET
"Visibility and aligned partnerships are
key to propelling my business forward. I
am focused on collaborating with
visionaries who reject the status quo
and prioritize innovation over "this is
how things have always been done." My
work is not just about creating events but
curating transformative experiences that
shift perspectives and deliver lasting
value.
"I thrive with clients who understand that
investing in quality is not a luxury but a
strategy. My ideal partnerships are with
heart- centred individuals and
organizations that dream big and act
bigger, knowing that impact demands
bold moves, fair practices, and a
long-term mindset. Together, we do not
wait for permission. We do not play
small.
"My focus is on transforming how we
think about events and experiences. Too
often, people view celebrations as
indulgences or luxuries? something nice
to have but easy to cut corners on. This
mindset leads to safe, predictable, and
forgettable gatherings, leaving people
feeling disconnected, even in a room full
of others.
"My business serves as a bridge for those
ready to challenge that narrative. I
know that spending money on events
feels risky to some, and there is a
common belief that one should be able
to throw a great party without spending
a fortune or putting in too much effort.
However, the truth is, you cannot have a
next- level experience without
committing something? whether it be
time, energy, or yes, money.
"I want my business to inspire people to
break free from the fear of spending
and show them the value of creating
experiences that resonate. I want to
challenge the belief that better events
are out of reach or not worth the
investment. When you invest in creating
moments that make people feel
something? joy, excitement, or
connection? you are not just hosting an
event. You are creating a memory that
lasts far beyond the night itself.
"As entrepreneurs, this is a critical lesson.
To grow and succeed, you must develop
a healthy relationship with money. It is
not just about how much you spend but
where you invest and why. M oney is a
tool, and how you use it reflects your
mindset. Ask yourself, are you driven by
fear of scarcity or inspired by the
potential for growth?
"Moving into 20 25, I am equipped with a
clear understanding of my business and
purpose, and I aim to attract clients
and suppliers who share this vision and
understand that when the right people
come together, extraordinary things
are not just possible? they are
inevitable."

"I have always believed I was meant to
be an entrepreneur. Growing up in a
small Saskatchew an town, my siblings
and I often dreamed up ?businesses.?
From selling lemonade to running our
own version of Santa?s Workshop, these
ventures sparked the entrepreneurial
spirit that has shaped my life. Even as a
child, I loved solving problems, bringing
ideas to life, and making connections.
"One of my earliest ventures was selling
toys door- to- door with my siblings. At
six, I vividly remember trying to sell an
Etch- a- Sketch worth $30 . When an
elderly man offered me 25 cents, I did
not know what a quarter was, so I
accepted it? only to be disappointed
when I realized its value. That
experience taught me a lesson I have
carried ever since: alw ays know your
w orth and never undersell yourself.
"When I was old enough to work, I
embraced every opportunity? from
babysitting and delivering new spapers
and starting small businesses. People
often commented on my w ork ethic, but
for me, it was never just about earning
money. I loved the creative process and
the sense of accomplishment it brought.
"Education has also been central to my
identity. I have always disliked being
judged by appearance? I wanted to be
known for my intelligence, w it, and
depth. I wanted to be someone who
could hold her own in any conversation
and be one of the most interesting
people in the room. This drive pushed me
to embrace learning as a passion and
work to develop myself into a curious,
well-rounded individual. That
commitment to growth continues to
shape my life today."
057
"Although I had many friends and was
part of the " popular" crow d, my
happiest moments were often spent
alone, creating. As a child, I would lose
myself for hours building ideas, w riting
stories, and dreaming of a life far
beyond the borders of my small town. I
imagined living in N ew York City,
modelling, writing, and building a life
entirely on my own terms. Watching Sex
and the City as a kid, Carrie
Bradshaw ?s independence and
creativity inspired me? it sparked
something in me.
"At 14, I won a model search, but my
mom made it clear I had to finish high
school before travelling. I focused on
maintaining a high GPA while balancing
local modelling opportunities, all while
preparing for the future I had envisioned.
"By the time I graduated, I was ready to
go. I moved to New York, began
modelling professionally, and started
building the life I had dreamed about.
Modelling became a defining chapter
of my teenage years, taking me to
N ew York, M iami, and Toronto.
"Those years taught me invaluable
lessons in branding, presentation, and
hustle? skills that have shaped every
venture I?ve pursued since. It was a crash
course in resilience and creativity, laying
the foundation for everything that
followed.
LAUN CHIN G KASI BAM BOO
"In 20 18, I was a full- time political
science student at UBC, a single
mother to my one-year-old son, and had
just been accepted to Yale University
for a business degree in collaboration
with UBC. Balancing motherhood, school,
and the early stages of entrepreneurship
was no small task, but it felt aligned with
my vision of creating a meaningful life
for my son and me.
"While writing research papers, I
became passionate about addressing
the environmental impact of fast
fashion? an industry responsible for 10 %
of global carbon emissions and 20 % of
wastewater. I wanted to create
sustainable, timeless, and luxurious
clothing, without the environmental toll
of materials like silk.
"Between studies and caring for my son, I
took private sew ing and design classes,
determined to bring this vision to life.
During a yoga class, the name " Kasi
Bamboo" came to me, and by
December 20 19, I had officially
incorporated my brand. Just as
production was set to begin, the
pandemic struck, halting operations.
"A supplier suggested creating bamboo
face masks. Initially hesitant, I designed
breathable bamboo masks with
matching bags to reduce waste.
"Despite early challenges with customs,
the masks launched and sold out within a
week. Sales reached $122,0 0 0 , with the
masks appearing on Harbour Air Pilots,
The League to Save Lake Tahoe, and
even the London Subw ay.
"The pace w as relentless? juggling 3
a.m. packing sessions, full-time studies,
and parenting? but it brought clarity. I
realized I had to choose between law
school and Kasi Bamboo. The brand won.
"Since then, Kasi Bamboo has been
featured in Vancouver M agazine, BC
Business, and more, highlighting my
journey to create sustainable clothing.
"What began with face masks expanded
into joggers, t-shirts, kids' clothing,
bamboo bed sheets, and more."

LAUN CHIN G M YSTIC M EDITATION S
"Spirituality has always been important
to me. Growing up in the church, I sang
in and led Sunday school, which instilled
a sense of connection and purpose. Yet, I
never imagined it would become the
focus of my work.
"In 20 18, I began studying shamanism
through the Foundation for Shamanic
Studies, initially to support a loved one.
What started as a personal exploration
deepened my understanding of
manifestation, energy w ork, and sound
healing, forming the foundation for the
practices I share today.
"I then dedicated myself to sound
healing and spiritual work, driven by a
desire to help others. Seeing a need for
accessible wellness, I launched M ystic
M editations to offer healing sessions
that truly connect.
"Mystic Meditations has grown beyond
what I imagined, merging with Kasi
Bamboo to create a platform offering
meditation apparel, sound baths,
retreats, and certification
programs? all designed to empower
and inspire.
"Accessibility became central to my
work after my sister, a nurse, highlighted
how inaccessible many healing services
are. This inspired by-donation sound
healing sessions, which have sold out,
confirming the need for inclusive
w ellness practices.
LAUN CHIN G ZHI RECORDS
"While growing my business, I channelled
my passion for music into launching
ZHI Records? a label dedicated to
ethereal house and healing sounds.
Drawing inspiration from my work in
sound healing, I began infusing my music
with healing frequencies designed to
connect and elevate.
"Performing at festivals became a
natural extension of this creative journey,
and receiving the FACTOR Canada
Artist Development grant was a
meaningful milestone, allowing me to
expand my vision and artistry.
"My journey has taught me resilience,
focus, and the pow er of trusting my
intuition. Each decision I made during
that time became a stepping stone,
shaping the businesses and creative
projects I?ve built today.
"I have always carried a deep sense of
know ing? a quiet certainty that
everything will unfold exactly as it is
meant to. I do not just hope or believe
things will work out; I trust in the process,
guided by principles that keep me
aligned with my vision.
"My purpose has always been rooted in
helping others. As an entrepreneur
building a conscious and holistic
business, my focus is not just on success
but on creating meaningful solutions that
genuinely serve people. I champion the
underdog, seek to fill gaps with what?s
truly needed, and approach my work as
a form of spiritual activism.
"One guiding principle I live by is ?living
from the end' ? acting as though what I
envision already exists. This mindset
keeps me grounded, intentional, and
focused on the bigger picture, allowing
everything to flow naturally without
force."
"Meditation has always been at the
heart of my life and work. It grounds me,
connects me to Source energy, and
reminds me that I have the power to
release resistance and choose thoughts
that truly serve me.
"Radical humility is another principle I
hold close. I remind myself that I am not
defined by my body, mind, or
achievements."
061
"Gratitude and generosity guide my
path, allowing challenges to unfold and
resolve w ith grace.
"The most pivotal moments in my journey
have come through finding clarity and
connecting to something far greater
than myself. These experiences have
taught me that when I align with
purpose, everything I work toward not
only succeeds but often exceeds my
highest expectations.
"In my business, I?ve embraced bold and
intentional steps to bring my passions to
life. With Kasi Bamboo, I introduced
sustainable essentials like bamboo face
masks during the pandemic. I also
trademarked my artist name, KASIA, and
launched ZHI Records, blending music
with healing frequencies. Music,
spirituality, and sound healing remain
central to everything I do, weaving
purpose and creativity into every
project.
LAUN CHIN G BLOOM
"On December 9th, I launched
Bloom? a virtual platform that brings the
heart of Mystic Meditations online.
Bloom offers sound healing, meditation,
certification courses, and personal
grow th w orkshops, all accessible from
anywhere in the world. It is the next step
in creating meaningful, sustainable
wellness experiences.
"The next two quarters are about growth
and refinement across everything I have
built. For Bloom, I will be expanding the
platform with new workshops and
courses to deepen its content and
reach, making healing even more
accessible globally.
"M ystic M editations will continue to
grow through thoughtfully curated
retreats, in-person sessions, and
collaborations that enhance the
in-person experience.
"On the retail side, Kasi Bamboo will
evolve with plans to introduce new
wellness products and elevate the
brand?s presence as a go-to for
meditation clothing and sound healing
essentials.
"In parallel, my music work remains a
distinct yet integral part of my creative
journey. As KASIA, I am focusing on new
music production and live performances,
while ZHI Records continues to grow as
a hub for ethereal house and healing
sounds. I am excited to be preparing for
the Juried Sound Recording: Single/ EP
grant with FACTOR Canada in 20 25.
This will further support my music
projects? and I have the best publicist. I
am so excited to go through the whole
grant process again.
"Everything I am building reflects a clear
vision? one that is rooted in creating
meaningful, accessible experiences and
staying true to my passions.
"Everything I do is driven by a desire to
leave the w orld better than I found it.
For decades, I have devoted myself to
the study of spirituality, academics, and
music, building on a lifetime of learning
and experience. It has been an honour
to now share this know ledge through
platforms and spaces that genuinely
support and uplift others."
"The wellness industry is not perfect.
There are people in it for a quick profit
and others who take advantage of those
who are vulnerable. Nothing makes me
more upset. I have always felt like I am
on a mission to do things differently, to
offer something real and meaningful.
The fact that doors keep opening in this
direction makes me think I am exactly
where I need to be.
"Music, for me, is deeply personal. It is
how I talk to God. It is my connection
to the divine and the constant thread in
my life. Through ZHI Records and my
work as KASIA, I get to share that
connection with others. It is not just
about sound? it is about emotion,
energy, and meaning.
"As I look ahead, I see everything I have
built? Bloom, Kasi Bamboo, M ystic
M editations, KASIA, and ZHI
Records? coming together as a
reflection of my vision.
"At the heart of it all, my goal is to
create something real. I want to help
people connect with themselves, find
purpose, and feel supported on their
path. This is more than a business to
me? it is a mission, and I am so grateful
to share it with the world. Everyone just
needs to know that they are worth
nothing less than everything."

IN HER
WORDS
"I am a " do- er" by nature. I prefer to
avoid sitting around and waiting for
others to make things happen. If I
can do it, I am going to do it. There is
nothing more satisfying than turning
ideas into reality through action. If I
do not know how to do something,
chances are I will learn. If I am good
at something, there is nothing more I
love than to utilize my skill set to
make an impact on others.
"I have always believed that
" earning your place is the highest
rew ard." It is a saying I came across
long ago that stuck with me and is
something I live by.
"As a child, I figure skated, played
piano and violin, and even
attempted to teach myself guitar. I
played soccer and field hockey; I
swam. I read. I was in acro, hip-hop,
and jazz. I developed an appetite
for life at a young age, which I still
hold today. I am excited about the
endless possibilities ahead and in
front of me now.
"I was always involved in fundraising!
I fundraised for the World
Partnership Walk multiple years in a
row. I also co-chaired the Canadian
Cancer Society' s Relay for Life in
honour of my grandpa during my
university days at Simon Fraser
University.
"We raised $36,0 0 0 throughout the
12- hour w alk, which took many
months to plan! I co-chaired a team
of 17 and was one of the primary
liaisons with the Canadian Cancer
Society' s Vancouver Team.
"I did not realize I was an
entrepreneur until I officially
incorporated my business in January
20 23? but I should have. There were
signs, and I had grappled with the
idea of entrepreneurship for a few
years before incorporating it.
"My background is in Health
Sciences, so how I ended up in
Public Relations is still a mystery ?
especially to me! I think one of the
things I am most grateful for is that I
have always follow ed my instincts.
And they have not led me astray!
"Looking back at my track record,
the first marketing company I ever
worked at took me from Intern to
Account M anager within a record
time of 6 months. Now, they did not
just give me this promotion. I had to
advocate for myself. Trust me, there
was a lot of pushback. But they
ended up giving me the opportunity
and I did not disappoint.
"My w ork output and revitalization
of the operational processes were
solely responsible for pushing the
boutique company w ell over the
7- figure line. Not only did I assist in
running the operations, but I also
supported them on the business
development front.
"I was the firm' s youngest executive,
which echoed throughout my career."
069
"If we had a conversation about my
w ork history, you would be surprised
at how many different industries I
have worked in, including
agriculture, cannabis, marketing
agencies, PR agencies, and
investment and w ealth
management.
"In these various industries, I primarily
took on executive roles with the
function of M arketing, Events or
Public Relations, so that part all
stayed relatively the same, but to
carry out your role for each industry
well, you have to learn A LOT.
"I took the leap and became an
entrepreneur in 20 23 after I helped
put one of Canada' s top
independent brokerages on the
map in front of a middle-market
private equity firm based in the US,
from which they received a 9- figure
equity injection. That transaction
valued the brokerage at $425
million. It has done great things since
and sits at an even higher valuation
today.
"Being responsible for developing
the communications strategy and
generating the earned media
exposure that led the company to
this success was eye-opening.
"It was the first time I had seen my
skill set actualize into something of
this scale. I realized I could do this
for others - help others reach their
goals - so I left and started my firm.
Fortunately, the brokerage became
my very first client .
"Fast forward to today, and it all
makes sense. My PR firm, Venture
Strategies, supports clients across an
array of industries, be it energy,
mining, technology, financial
services, luxury fashion, health? we
also work with companies in both the
public and private sectors, primarily
across North America (but not limited
to!).
"I am so thankful for my career
journey because it was active.
Because of it, I know what I love and
do not love to do.
"One of the biggest takeaways from
having a multi- sector background is
that there is a good chunk of
crossover no matter your industry.
Also, if I had only ever worked in one
industry and decided to open a PR
firm, we would not have been
industry- agnostic. And I am so
happy that we are.
"Leading up to the birth of Venture
Strategies, I travelled a lot for w ork.
For one period of time, it was every
two weeks. I lived out of a suitcase
for a good span, and when the
pandemic hit, all of a sudden, I had
this extra time.
"During this same period, I was
getting a lot of w ord- of- mouth
referrals. I would, of course, take
them on as side hustles because I
had the extra time to do them. I have
always been pretty good at juggling
a lot, so it was never an issue for me,
but when my PR firm Venture
Strategies was born, these side
hustles became some of my key
clients, some of whom are still with
me today."
"As my work life began to become
established, and I hired and grew a
team (we are a team of seven
today!), my personal life also
changed. I got engaged in July 20 23
and married in N ovember 20 24.
"Between growing the team and
client base and planning a wedding,
20 24 has been one of my busiest
years. But also, without a doubt, the
best year of my life.
"Shortly after I incorporated, I made
it public (to friends, family and my
network). Some of the contacts in my
network immediately made referrals.
I was surprised at how fast they were
made.
"I am always happy to make referrals
for others, but when they are made
for you, the feeling is different. I was
quickly able to add a few private
companies to the Venture Strategies
portfolio, but things changed when
we entered the public domain.
"Today, we have just shy of 15
companies in our portfolio, with a
team of seven and growing. I am
thankful to all the people who
vouched for us. You can have years of
expertise, but when your company is
new, the endorsement and support
make the difference - no matter
how small or big."
"My approach is quality over quantity.
Start small. Deliver quality. Simple.
This approach has brought quality
results, which has led to the extension
of over 90 % of our contracts. PR is a
long game. It is essential to know and
communicate this to clients. We are
transparent about our approach
upfront ? what is realistic and what is
not, but more importantly, we often
move clients away from " w hat they
w ant vs w hat they need." The sweet
spot is to be able to do both, but
more important is getting the results
they need.
"For those unfamiliar with the
difference between PR and
marketing, PR is rooted in increasing
your visibility via media relations. It is
heavily fact- based, requires a
significant amount of research and
strategy, and is fast- moving.
"Last year, we changed the name
from Final Edit M edia to Venture
Strategies. While we have done one
rebrand already, we plan to undergo
a significant transformation in 20 25
to have our public assets represent
the calibre of work we do. It is funny
how sometimes you can prioritize your
client's needs so much but forget
about your own needs. This is a
non-negotiable for us in 20 25.
"With earned and ow ned media at
the forefront, we are built to lead
brands and organizations through
today's increasingly complex and
competitive landscape.
"This is our mission statement. It is one
we live by. Our model is earned and
owned media first, making us different
from a good chunk of current PR firms.
Earned media takes a lot of work to
generate. You cannot buy it, making it
the most valuable form of third-party
exposure. While we offer paid media,
99% of our clients come to us for
earned and owned media ? and we
deliver.
"We have placed clients across the
majority of significant Tier 1
publications and trade publications,
including Business Insider, Globe and
M ail, Wall Street Journal, Reuters,
Forbes, TIM E, Business in Vancouver,
BC Business, Techcrunch,
VentureBeat, AI Journal, Wealth
Professional, Investment Executive,
Bloomberg, and so many more.
"The current landscape is evolving,
making trade publications just as
vital as Tier One outlets. Effective
utilization of this coverage can
significantly elevate our efforts
toward achieving our goals. We excel
in this area, and I am committed to
doubling the size of our company by
the end of 20 25. If you know any
exceptional publicists seeking a
home in a fast-growing firm, I would
love an introduction!

ZA HIR RA JA NI:
THE SA RTORIA L
SHOP
073
The Sartorial Shop, located in downtown
Vancouver, was founded by Zahir Rajani
and is a premier destination for custom
and bespoke clothing. Serving men and
women, the shop has built a reputation
for its meticulous craftsmanship and
unparalleled attention to detail.
The Sartorial Shop offers a w ide range
of bespoke garments, including suits,
tuxedos, formalwear, overcoats, shirts,
skirts, waistcoats, and vests, each
tailored to perfection.
With over 30 body measurements and
postural notes incorporated into each
design, The Sartorial Shop?s process
ensures an exceptional fit for every
client. The shop provides both bespoke
and semi-bespoke options for all its
products, emphasizing true luxury
craftsmanship.
Unlike mass-production facilities, The
Sartorial Shop?s garments are crafted
with care and precision, reflecting a
commitment to artisanal quality.
Zahir's parents founded Tasleem?s, where
The Sartorial Shop's story began. Starting
as a small M ain Street shop offering
ready-to-wear clothing and formalwear,
it introduced a custom line of shirts and
suits in 20 0 7. By 20 10 , the business shifted
to a referral-based, by-appointment
model, emphasizing custom
craftsmanship. This marked Zahir's
transition into a leadership role.
In 20 23, Zahir reopened the storefront as
Rajani Bespoke, expanding from custom
suiting to fully bespoke offerings for the
Greater Vancouver Area, and also
clients across North America. This
transformation included sourcing fabrics
from the world's finest mills, such as
Ermenegildo, Zegna, Loro Piana, and
Fox Brothers, ensuring access to luxury
materials crafted in England and Italy.
In August 20 24, the brand re-launched as
The Sartorial Shop, aligning with a vision
of future growth and the introduction of
even more offerings from the sartorial
world. Today, it continues to bring the
epitome of luxury, bespoke
craftsmanship to its discerning clientele,
solidifying its position as a leader in
Vancouver?s custom clothing market.

M EET
ZA HIR
Zahir Rajani, Founder and Creative
Director of The Sartorial Shop, brings
over 15 years of experience in the
sartorial and custom clothing industry.
Tailoring runs deep in his family heritage,
with both of his grandfathers having
been skilled tailors in their respective
home countries. From a young age, Zahir
was immersed in the world of tailoring,
learning the art and precision of
garment- making under the guidance of
his maternal grandfather, who
specialized in men?s tailoring.
Growing up, Zahir developed a
fascination with the intricacies of design
and craftsmanship. He spent countless
hours exploring the nuances of lapel
styles, trouser finishes, and proper
garment care? skills that became
second nature to him. This early exposure
ignited his passion for sartorial
excellence and laid the foundation for
his future career.
Zahir?s journey into custom clothing
began in 20 0 7, when he leveraged
resources from his parents?clothing store,
established in 1984, to create a custom
mensw ear line. What started as a
project to outfit himself and family
members for a series of weddings quickly
expanded to include customers from the
shop. By 20 10 , when the family store
closed after 26 successful years, Zahir
transitioned the custom clothing line into
a private, referral-based offering, which
he managed alongside his career in
global real estate.
In 20 23, Zahir decided to return to his
roots in tailoring, leaving his role as a
high- level executive in global real
estate to focus fully on custom and
bespoke tailoring. After extensive
research and development, including
partnerships with renowned fabric mills
and suppliers from England and Italy, he
rebranded and reopened the family
business, merging modern craftsmanship
with timeless traditions.
Today, Zahir continues to lead The
Sartorial Shop with a vision rooted in
authenticity, precision, and luxury. His
dedication to delivering world-class
bespoke garments reflects his lifelong
passion for tailoring and his commitment
to providing clients with unparalleled
sartorial experiences.
IN HIS
WORDS
"Entrepreneurship has always been a
part of my life, even before I began my
corporate career, which eventually led
to The Sartorial Shop. Both of my
parents w ere entrepreneurs, as were
their friends and several of my aunts and
uncles. From an early age, I felt a strong
desire to build something of my
own? and here we are.
FROM AN EARLY AGE
"My father owned a movie theatre in
the mid-90 s, and at just 13 years old, he
gave me the chance to negotiate my
first contract. It was for a major
Bollyw ood movie that was set to release
later that year and marked our first
dealings with a particular movie studio."
077
"During our conversations, I shared a few
ideas on how to approach the
negotiations, and to my surprise, my
father suggested I take the lead. That
moment was transformative. Not only did
I think it was incredibly cool, but it also
provided me with an early opportunity to
engage in a process that would heavily
influence my corporate career and,
ultimately, The Sartorial Shop.
"That experience helped me realize that
I had a strong affinity for the business
side of things. I enjoyed planning,
organizing, executing, negotiating,
and operating. As I entered the world of
corporate real estate, those early
entrepreneurial lessons played a
significant role in my successes. Over
time, as I climbed the corporate ladder,
I became increasingly aware that my
unique edge? and what made me stand
out? stemmed largely from the formative
experiences of my upbringing.
BUILDIN G A FAM ILY
"My life took a profound turn in
December 20 22 with the birth of our
daughter. Becoming a parent gave me
an entirely new perspective and helped
me chart the path I am on today. Having
the freedom to choose how I spend my
time, and being able to be present for
my family, became non- negotiable
priorities. After more than a decade
working for others, I realized that my
time had never truly been my
own? vacation days and time off always
required approval.
"The pandemic brought clarity to many,
myself included. It illuminated the true
value of employees to organizations and
the importance of cherishing time with
loved ones before it is too late.
"My wife, who is also my travel
companion of over 12 years, has been
instrumental in this journey. Together, we
realized that there is so much more to
life than grinding away in an office.
Leaving behind the corporate w orld to
embrace entrepreneurship was one of
the best decisions I have ever made.
THE CATALYST
"At one point, I decided to explore a
newly launched custom suiting program
at a well-known Canadian high street
department store. It was an opportunity
to observe the market, understand what
was being offered, and potentially learn
something new. At that time, I had not
yet reopened the family business that
would later become The Sartorial Shop. I
ordered two suits to evaluate the
process and gain insight into how the
industry had evolved.
"About three months later, I was notified
that the suits were ready. However, when
I tried them on, I w as unimpressed. After
three rounds of alterations and
adjustments, I eventually brought them
home. Then, one morning, as I was tying
my shoelaces while wearing one of the
suits, the pants split down the middle. It
was a frustrating and unexpected
outcome, particularly after all the delays
and alterations.
"That incident motivated me to write to
the CEO of the company. I shared my
experience and offered suggestions for
improving their custom suiting program.
To my surprise, I was invited the next day
to meet with the managing director of
the BC region."
079
"During our conversation, we discussed
the issues I had encountered and
explored ways to refine the process for
future customers.
"In our meeting, the managing director
asked how I had developed such a deep
understanding of the custom suiting
process and what defines a positive
customer experience.
"That question sparked a realization: I
needed to return to something I truly
loved? reviving the family business.
Around the same time, I discovered that
one of our competitors was charging
nearly double for suits made from fabrics
sourced from the same premium mills. I
was stunned. The price disparity seemed
unreasonable and ultimately gave me
the push I needed. I wanted to provide
exceptional quality and service at a
price that was both fair and accessible.
"This experience reinforced my passion
and motivated me to create a business
that not only delivers great value but
also ensures every customer feels
genuinely cared for. It was time to return
to what I knew best.
THE N EXT STAGES
"We dedicated six months to research
and development, refining our process
and establishing partnerships with the
world's leading premium fabric mills. I
knew that our product had to be the
absolute best, so rushing it to market was
never an option. By the time we were
confident that everything was ready, we
launched on M ay 31, 20 23.
"I am also proud to share that,
earlier this year, The Sartorial Shop
introduced a tailoring style inspired by
architectural elegance of Florence,
Italy.
"In 20 24, we worked tirelessly to bring
this distinctive and elegant tailoring style
to Canada as an exclusive offering.
"Known for its dart-free front panel,
extended shoulders, and simple
aesthetic, the Florentine Cut was
popularized by M aestro Antonio
Liverano.
"We had the honour of meeting Messer
Liverano at his sartoria in June 20 24,
which provided us with further inspiration
for this unique piece we will soon unveil.
"Staying true to Italian bespoke
traditions, this particular cut, offered as
a suit jacket or sport coat, will be
handmade with a beautifully hand-sewn
canvas and crafted using premium
fabrics from Loro Piana and Drapers by
Vitale Barberis Canonico.
"Introducing this cut to Canada marks a
significant milestone for our fashion
market, and we are immensely proud to
lead the way.
"None of this would have been possible
without the unw avering support of those
around us. My family has been
instrumental, particularly my wife, who
co-owns the business with me. Without
their belief in our vision, we would not be
where we are today.
"At The Sartorial Shop, we offer the finest
in custom and bespoke suiting? period.
From the selection of fabrics to the
finished product, our approach to
creating the perfect fit is unlike any
other in Vancouver.
"While others charge $4,0 0 0 for a suit,
we provide the same quality for $2,50 0 .
If we charge $4,0 0 0 , it is because you
are receiving $4,0 0 0 worth of suiting."
081
"It is simple: we are here to help you
become the best version of yourself,
and everything else we gain from doing
that is a bonus.
"When starting a new venture, the hope
is that it will take off quickly. We are
fortunate that this has been the case for
us.
"Demand has grown rapidly, not only
locally and across Canada but
internationally as well. While this is a
wonderful challenge to face, it has
underscored just how much our offering
resonates w ith clients, far beyond what
we initially anticipated.
"To elevate our brand and expand our
reach, we underwent a rebrand earlier
this year, transitioning from Rajani
Bespoke to The Sartorial Shop. Although
this was a necessary move, there are still
a few details we aim to refine in 20 25.
"Looking ahead, one of our longer-term
goals includes expanding our atelier,
especially to better serve our
international clients. We also plan to
intensify our efforts to educate people
about what sets our brand apart.
"Everything about The Sartorial Shop is
different? from our approach to
customer experience to our commitment
to quality.
M OVIN G IN TO THE FUTURE
"In 20 25, we will focus on building
greater awareness of these distinctions.
While we are eager to expand our
reach, we will do so thoughtfully,
ensuring every decision aligns with our
vision and values.
"As we continue to grow, relationships
remain at the heart of our success. We
are fortunate to work with w orld- class
fabric mills based in Europe, trusted
local partners, and clients who have
become our friends.
"My nearly two-decade executive
career in real estate at Onni and the
Redstone Group gave me invaluable
experience and success "the corporate
way." I excelled in that environment, but I
eventually realized I needed to pursue
something more personal and
meaningful.
"At The Sartorial Shop, one principle
remains non-negotiable: conducting
business with authenticity and integrity.
"Luxury fashion often has a reputation
for being unwelcoming. Most people
have experienced walking into a store
and receiving poor service for no
apparent reason? it feels terrible.
"I can confidently say you will never
experience that with us. You have my
word. By keeping our experience
human, elevated, and distinctly
personal, we believe we will continue
to set ourselves apart and achieve
our goals."

IN HER WORDS
085
"From a young age, I was
self- employed, though I did not fully
realize it at the time. At ten years old, I
began charging my neighbours to
babysit their children.
"From there, I found various ways to
earn pocket money, taking on roles as
a fruit picker, dishw asher, and
garden w eeder. These early
experiences instilled in me a strong
w ork ethic that would shape my future.
"I worked hospitality and retail jobs in
my teens and while in school, and when
I graduated from college, I landed my
first ?real? job.
"Within two years, I transitioned from
living lean to earning enough to
purchase my first brand-new car. My
husband and I bought a Volksw agen
Jetta. It was basic? no power windows
or air conditioning? but it was ours,
hard-earned and new.
"In 20 13, we started Tow n Hall Brands,
but the seeds of my career journey
were planted much earlier. At 24, I
returned to school to study marketing.
While completing my studies, I
freelanced, writing press releases for
an agency and creating reports for a
real estate company."
087
"As part of my education, I completed
a co- op placement with the BC Wine
Institute (now Wine Growers BC).
Upon graduation, I was hired as a
contractor to work with Christine
Coletta, the executive director at the
time. I started as her junior and
balanced full-time work with evening
and weekend classes to earn a
diploma in media relations and public
relations. I also took courses in event
management and graphic design.
"As my education aligned more closely
with my work, Christine entrusted me
with greater responsibilities. When she
left the BC Wine Institute, she invited
me to join her at Coletta Consultants,
where we handled marketing, public
relations, and events for wineries and
wine regions.
"My boyfriend, Andrew ? now my
husband? joined us as a graphic
designer. Together, we began building
something special.
"We had a remarkable run in public
relations. I managed campaigns for
Sumac Ridge Estate Winery, which
was later acquired by Vincor Canada.
From there, I took on public relations
for the Vincor Canada Estate brands,
including Jackson- Triggs and
Inniskillin. I was proud to launch
brands such as See Ya Later Ranch,
N k?M ip Cellars, and Osoyoos Larose,
putting them on the map.
"During this time, the media landscape
was vibrant, with dedicated w ine
columnists at numerous outlets.
"When Constellation Brands acquired
Vincor, my work expanded to include
their international brands, managing
Canadian campaigns for Ravensw ood,
Robert M ondavi, and Hardy?s, among
others.
"Over time, I handled public relations
for 13 of their brands at the same time,
achieving significant milestones:
securing television features, magazine
spreads, and prominent placements for
my clients. I wrote speeches for CEOs,
conducted media training for
winemakers, hospitality workers, and
chefs, and completed wine studies to
earn my WSET Levels 1 and 2.
"In addition to wine, I worked in
agriculture, launching the
now-multinational Ambrosia apple.
"Despite my busy career, I prioritized
family. When my son was born, I took
nearly a year of maternity leave
before returning to work.
"After almost a decade of
collaboration, Christine, Julian
Scholefield, and I became partners,
forming Coletta & Associates. While
continuing with our existing projects, I
expressed a desire for new challenges.
"Around this time, Christine planted
grapes that would later become
Hayw ire Wines.
"We stayed on with Vincor until the
20 10 Olympic Games, where they
were the official wine supplier. Being
part of the Icew ine pop-up in
Richmond and participating in
Olympic activations was a thrilling way
to conclude a decade- long
partnership."
"Next, we pivoted to rebranding and
creating wineries. We transformed a
fledgling winery into Road 13,
revamped Hester Creek?s packaging,
launched Baillie Grohman Winery in
Creston, and refreshed Tinhorn
Creek?s labels. By 20 0 9, Hayw ire?s
first vintage was ready, and by 20 13,
Coletta & Associates closed as
Christine and Julian transitioned to
run Okanagan Crush Pad Winery.
This shift led Andrew and me to
consolidate our efforts and launch
Town Hall Brands.
"We started in 20 13 with a small
team? Andrew, myself, and two
contractors? working from the
basement of our South Vancouver
home. As word spread, BC wineries
approached us, and we quickly
outgrew our home office. In 20 15, we
moved to a loft-style office in M ount
Pleasant, where we have remained
ever since.
"At Town Hall Brands, we offer
branding, graphic design, social
media, public relations, event
activations, and more, serving clients
in lifestyle sectors such as food,
beverage, sports, and tourism.
"Over the years, we have worked with
wine regions from around the world,
including Spain, Portugal, and Italy.
We have launched and branded
numerous British Columbia wine
projects, as well as initiatives in food
and hospitality.
"Throughout my journey, I have been
fortunate to have incredible mentors,
including Christine Coletta, the late
Harry M cWatters, and his daughter
Christa- Lee M cWatters. I have also
benefited from collaborations with
industry colleagues such as Dana Lee
Harris, Summer Dhillon, and
Shelley M acArthur. Media
professionals like Renee Blackstone,
Fred Lee, Sophie Lui, Tim Paw sey,
and many others have supported our
clients and helped me grow as a
publicist.
"As Town Hall Brands celebrated its
11th anniversary in 20 24, we reflected
on a decade of growth and resilience.
The pandemic brought challenges, but
it also taught us the value of
adaptability. We adopted a hybrid
w ork model and, in 20 22, introduced
a four- day w orkw eek, which has
been embraced by our team.
"Looking back, I see the defining
moments that shaped both my
personal and professional journey.
"For example, launching the Ambrosia
apple taught me the pow er of
strategic storytelling, while
rebranding wineries underscored the
importance of visual identity. Each
project added a layer of expertise to
my work and reinforced my belief in
the pow er of collaboration.
"I am also proud of the relationships I
have built over the years. Clients
entrust us with their visions."
089
091
"Whether launching a new w ine label,
promoting a packaged food product,
or organizing a tourism event, the
process of bringing ideas to life
continues to inspire me.
"Our team has also been a critical part
of our success. Mentorship is a value I
hold dear, inspired by the guidance I
received from Christine and others.
"Many team members who started with
us fresh out of school have gone on to
achieve remarkable things. Others
have stayed with us for years,
becoming integral to our company?s
growth.
"Today, we have a talented group,
including M arina, Sierra, M elody,
Rebecca, and Judy, who bring their
best to every project.
"Looking ahead, we are excited about
new opportunities. While challenges
remain? particularly in industries like
wine, which face unique pressures? we
are diversifying into packaged goods
and other verticals. As 20 24 comes to
a close, we are optimistic about the
future.
"Running a business is often described
as being like a duck: calm on the
surface, paddling furiously beneath.
"This analogy resonates deeply with
me. Yet, when colleagues admire what
we have built at Town Hall Brands, it
reaffirms that we are on the right
track. Each challenge and success has
brought us to where we are today, and
I look forward to what lies ahead."

IN HIS WORDS
"I have always been a dreamer,
captivated by the magic of storytelling
and the thrill of creating something from
nothing. My passion for filmmaking
began early, but it truly solidified when I
was in film school. I juggled multiple
jobs to support myself, one of which was
working as a set extra. While it was an
eye-opening experience, it often came
with challenges? sometimes feeling like
a second-class citizen when a
production assistant (no offence to
them) treated you more like a number
than a contributor to the production.
"Those moments, though tough, were
pivotal. They lit a fire in me, sparking the
realization that I wanted more control
over my creative destiny. I wanted to run
the show? to bring people together,
treat them with respect, and create
inspiring and uplifting projects.
"That drive was the first step in my
journey as an entrepreneur, and it
continues to fuel me to this day."
097 091
"Unlike others, I did not run a formal
business when I was younger, but I have
always had a knack for spotting
opportunities and understanding supply
and demand. Even as a teenager, I had
an eye for trends before they became
mainstream. Back then, one of my first
ventures was selling second-hand
compact discs (remember, this was
before Spotify, kids!).
"I would scour for popular or
hard- to- find albums and resell them to
friends or classmates who were
desperate to get their hands on them. It
was not just about the money? it was the
thrill of matching people with something
they wanted and knowing I had the
foresight to see its value. That
experience taught me the importance of
understanding people's needs and
preferences, a skill that I have carried
over into my career today.
"It was not just about compact discs,
either? I was hustling in small ways,
whether trading collectibles, helping
organize events, or spotting gaps where
I could create value. Those early
experiences were the seeds of my
entrepreneurial spirit, even if I did not
realize it then.
"A pivotal moment for me came when I
worked at a restaurant in high school. I
had this idea to create a scripted video
for our Christmas party? a little story
starring my coworkers as the cast. I
wrote the script, directed the scenes,
and kept the finished product a surprise
until the big night.
"When we played the video at the party,
the room erupted in laughter, applause,
and, to my amazement, a standing
ovation. As I watched everyone so
thoroughly entertained by something I
had created, it hit me: This is it. I am
meant to do this for the rest of my life.
"That little project showed me the power
of storytelling and the joy of creating,
and it has been driving me ever since.
"Another story worth sharing involves a
venture in the early 20 0 0 s. Back then, I
was deep into creating indie video
programs and show s, running them on
my website and trying to pitch them to
broadcasters.
"It was a grind, so I had this lightbulb
moment: Why not create an online
platform where creators like me and
others could upload their videos directly
to the public? No more middlemen or
long sales processes with broadcasting
networks? it felt like a game- changer.
"I started developing the concept and
even working on a business plan. Then,
bam? YouTube came along and
launched their platform while I was still
figuring things out.
"I saw their success and thought, "Well, I
guess I missed that boat." Looking back, I
sometimes wonder, "What if I had kept
going?" But hey, life is all about lessons.
"That experience taught me to act faster
on good ideas and to keep pushing
forward even when the competition
seems daunting. Plus, I can still say I was
thinking like a tech visionary before it
was cool!
"Over the years, my journey has
progressed to the point that I now love
what I do because no two projects are
ever the same? each one challenges me
to create something new.
"The journey has been all about staying
curious and seizing opportunities. As
long as the world keeps spinning,
possibilities are endless? you just have to
be open to seeing them!"
"I have always been drawn to creating
new ways of doing things? thinking
outside the box is my favourite pastime!
Later in 20 0 5 (after the YouTube
scenario), I launched Arc2 Intertainment
with the idea of merging entertainment
with the Internet. It was my first big step
into the digital space, setting the stage
for what came next.
"The following year, I founded FMA
Entertainment, which became the
production hub for most of my projects,
whether live events or internet-based
content. One of my favourite creations
was the FMA Gala Concert in 20 11
(formerly Fashion Rocks), where I
combined live music, fashion shows, and
multimedia art into one spectacular
event. It was the first of its kind in
Vancouver! Unfortunately, after an
incredible five-year run, the high
production costs made it unsustainable.
"Another venture I am proud of is the
Vancouver VR Film Festival, which I
launched in 20 19 to showcase
cutting-edge virtual reality content.
Sadly, just as it was gaining momentum,
the pandemic was upon us, and
everything came to a halt.
"In my journey, I have draw n inspiration
and motivation from many places. From
the incredible mentors I have admired
from afar to the countless creators and
entrepreneurs who share their stories
and push boundaries? they have shown
me what is possible.
"I have also leaned on the
encouragement of my audience and
collaborators, whose belief in my work
has kept me going. Their trust and
support remind me why I started this
journey and push me to keep creating
and innovating every day.
"Recently, the first season of Bites and
Sips wrapped. This web project
celebrates the West Coast's vibrant
culinary scene! This show is more than
just food? it is a love letter to the
multicultural flavours and stories that
make our city so unique and so far,
response has been incredible, and we
are already gearing up for the next
season, where we will explore the
culinary gems of other metro cities, and
then expanding to city's outside of BC.
"I am also thrilled that AI technology is
merging with the entertainment world?
it is opening up an entirely new era of
creativity for concepts and production.
With endless possibilities, I am ready to
embrace this transformative shift.
"Looking ahead, I am focused on two
innovative projects currently in
development, each designed to disrupt
the status quo and bring something
unique to the entertainment and
creative industries. These ventures are
set to redefine how audiences
experience storytelling , whether
through digital platforms, live events, or
immersive technologies.
"Moving into 20 25, I will focus the
research and development to shape my
next groundbreaking project's concept
and business model. This phase is
critical? it requires a deep dive into
understanding current market trends,
audience behaviour, and the
ever-evolving landscape of technology
and entertainment.
My journey has been exhilarating, and I
am excited about what lies ahead!
