Choosing the right place to study is one of the most important
decisions you will ever make. It will affect not only the next few years
of your life, but also your future career.
The Trafford & Stockport College Group (TSCG)
is one of the largest colleges in the region
supporting over 15,000 students who choose to
develop their skills with us, of which over 500
are in Higher Education.
This puts you in a privileged position. Not only
will you benefit from the investment and
resources of being part of a large education
provider, but you do so as part of a tight-knit
community of HE staff and students.
The recent completion of our £23m campus
development has allowed us to create
dedicated spaces and resources for our
Higher Education students while allowing
access to the wider campus facilities and easy
access to the town centre.
At the University Centre Stockport College our
staff are invested in their subject matter and
in you. They work hard to keep you up to date
with knowledge of all the latest developments
in your field of study as well as offering a high
level of support where you will be stretched
and challenged academically.
This approach is reflected in the results we
received from the 2023 National Student
Satisfaction Survey. In particular we are
extremely proud of the high scores achieved
in the categories of teaching, learning
opportunities, assessment and feedback, and
academic support and what this means for
your learning experience.
All our Higher Education qualifications are
industry focused and have been designed to give
you the opportunity to progress and excel in your
career. If you join us, you will spend your time in
a highly personalised environment and in a town

Many of our undergraduates come from Stockport and are
passionate about the town they grew up in. They are local people
with a pride in their community and a desire to succeed.
We are immensely proud of our close ties to
the local community and to have helped the
town’s talented individuals graduate in fields
such as computing, construction, engineering,
the creative industries, and in early years and
health care.
I would like to thank you for considering the
University Centre for your higher education
journey. By choosing to study with us you will
become part of our family where small class
sizes and passionate teaching make for a hugely
rewarding experience. We offer something
very different from residential-based courses at
universities where you often arrive as just one
person in a cohort of hundreds of students.
Ours is an experience that is further enhanced
by the many other benefits of studying with
us. Whether it’s saving money on travel and
accommodation by studying in your local area,
the ability to study while staying in work, or
the flexibility to choose a study programme
that best meets your work and home life, more
students than ever are choosing the University
Centre Stockport College.
We also work with Sheffield Hallam University
(named University of the Year in 2022) and carry
a Bronze award on the Teaching Education
Framework which means that you have all the
assurance of studying your course within a
professional and reputable environment.
As a HE provider we are committed to
providing a high-quality student experience
through a well-planned curriculum offer,
enhanced by our links with local employers
who help us to create our Higher Education &
Skills programme.
Our focus is on ensuring positive student
outcomes into employment and, in doing so,
meeting local higher level vocational, technical,
and professional skills needs.
The University Centre is often referred to as
one of Stockport’s best kept secrets, but we
don’t think we’ll be able to hold onto that title
for much longer so why not come and see us
before word gets out?
We would love to meet you and answer any
questions you have, and we hope to welcome
you to our campus very soon.

IT MAKES SENSE
At a time when the cost of living remains high, time is precious and work-life balance is
more important than ever, staying local to undertake your HE qualification just makes
sense. And here are a few more reasons why choosing to study with us is the smart choice.
Stay near, go far
A degree is the same from any type of institution.
Studying for a degree on your doorstep is not only
convenient, it means you can live at home and reduce
your living expenses, compared to living away at
university.
Greater flexibility
The University Centre Stockport College offers not
only degrees but a wide variety of Higher Education
qualifications that act as a stepping stone to a full
degree, such as HNCs, HNDs, HTQs and foundation
degrees, all of which can be ‘topped up’ to a degree at
a later date, giving you the flexibility to complete your
Higher Education in stages.
Employer focused
The University Centre Stockport College is an integral
part of the local community, and we tailor our degree
programmes to the demands of the local economy,
providing you with specific workplace skills for the local
job market. All programmes have work-related strengths
supporting high standards of student employability.
Extremely supportive
Unique learning environment
Many people can find the full university experience
a bit daunting. Everything with us is on a more
personalised scale, meaning your studies generally
take place in a classroom setting. This creates a more
productive learning environment and gives you more
opportunities to collaborate with other students.
Working while learning
Staying at home to study a university degree means
that you may be able to study while working full-time,
or hold down a regular part-time job, which can be
difficult for a student based on a university campus
who lives at home outside of term time.
Foundation Degrees and
Degrees awarded by Sheffield
Hallam University
As a strategic partner with Sheffield Hallam University
(SHU), our partnership courses are of the highest
standard to meet rigorous requirements. Our
graduates obtain employer focused qualifications
from an award-winning university when studying
through the University Centre Stockport College.
We can offer a more supportive learning environment,
with individual support for those who need it and more
one-to-one time with your lecturers and tutors. This
gives you the best chance of achieving your potential.

ABOUT YOU
There is no better way for us to tell you about the
benefits of studying with us than by hearing from
some of our recent graduates
Luke Winstanley
Level 5 in Education & Training
What was the favourite aspect of your course?
There were several aspects of the course that really
impressed me. The well-structured curriculum
combined with access to termly study schedules kept
us informed of what we would be learning each week.
The passion that our tutor, Andy, had for not only
teaching us but wanting to strive for success in every
aspect of our work was also a stand out for me.
What was your greatest challenge?
The greatest challenge was probably effectively
managing my time juggling to complete the course
work along with my day job which is about planning
lessons, marking students’ work and planning for their
assessments, all while balancing this with a home life
that includes children and a new born baby!
What do you hope to do now?
I want to continue in my role as a mentor and a motor
vehicle tutor and hopefully in the future progress
within the college as well as obtain a Master’s Degree
in Leadership & Management.

What was the favourite aspect of your course?
What was the favourite aspect of
your course?
I liked the calm aspect of the study
environment which enabled me to complete
my degree course with its mix of practical
and theory work which helped me to apply
this to my job.
What was your greatest challenge?
My greatest challenge was studying on the
course while holding down a full-time job,
completing a UEFA B licence programme,
and recovering from a ACL football injury!
I found the most enjoyable part of my course to be
when I got to experiment with both physical and
digital art, trying out different art materials and forms
like experimental film. I also looked forward to working
on project briefs that had real-world applications.
What was your greatest challenge?
I would say that my biggest challenge was managing
my time between my studies, family life and my work
at the NHS which I wouldn’t have been able to manage
without the support of my tutors, classmates, and my
incredibly supportive hubby!
What do you hope to do now?
What do you hope to do now?
I have now gained a new role working with
both Manchester United and Liverpool
football clubs as I continue to work within
professional football coaching.
At the moment I am continuing with my role at
the NHS which I find incredibly rewarding while
also looking for opportunities to use my new found
knowledge and skills and I am excited for what the
future will bring.

Council Tax Exemption
Any full-time student aged 18 and over can
also apply for Council Tax Exemption from
their Local Authority. Council Tax Exemption
Certificates are available from the Enrolment
Booths within Student Services.
As a higher education student there is a range of financial support options
available. With nothing to pay up-front, low-cost government loans, and
other support grants, financing your course may be easier than you think.
We’ve included some of the key information you need to know.
Adult Dependent Grant
Extra financial support is available to students
with an adult who depends on your finances
(this is usually your partner, parent, or
grandparent but not adult children). You could
be eligible for up to £3,354 per year, a grant
that does not have to be paid back, and which
is paid on top of your other student finance.
Disabled Student Allowance
Fees and Loans
Tuition Fee Loans
As a full-time or part-time student, you can
apply for a loan to cover your tuition fees.
Full-time and part-time students applying
for a Higher Education course do not have
to pay their tuition fees in advance. If you are
eligible, your fees will be automatically paid to
the College by the Student Loans Company.
You can find more information about the fees
associated with the qualifications we offer on
our website at stockport.ac.uk/universitylevel/important-information/fundingfinance/
Maintenance Loans
You may also be eligible for a loan to help cover
the cost of living as a student. You may have to
give details of your household income when
you apply as this can affect the amount you
are given. This loan is paid directly to you in
three instalments, which you will have to pay
back after you finish studying. Student Finance
England have produced a step-by-step guide to
help you through your student finance journey.
Visit www.gov.uk for more information.
Repayments
The great thing about tuition fee and
maintenance loans is that you only make
repayments once you have completed your
course and you’re earning over £25,000 a
year. The amount you repay depends on your
income, not what you have borrowed.
Financial Support
Our Higher Education tuition fees are lower than
most UK universities’ fees and represent great
value for money. We also offer extra financial
support through bursaries and other funds.
Bursary Awards
The College offers a limited number of Bursary
Awards made up of a cash grant of £500
for first year full-time students and £250
cash grant for first year part-time students.
The awards are paid in February and May.
Students are eligible if their household income
is up to £25,000 and must demonstrate a
commitment to study through attendance and
engagement with study.
Am I Eligible for
Additional Funding?
Funding is available to students on lower
incomes to help meet costs associated with
their course and coming to college, with several
different options available, depending on the
type and level of study.
Remember, our Student Financial Support
Team is ready and waiting to help with
information, advice and support on a range of
fees and finance issues related to your study.
Find out more about student finance by visiting
Student Finance England.
Up to £26,291 is available to cover study related
costs that a student may have because of a
mental health problem, long term illness or any
other disability. The amount awarded depends
upon individual needs as opposed to household
income, and the allowance is not paid back.
