It’s quite challenging but it’s
an exciting experience. You get
to achieve things you probably
thought you never would, and it
gives you a great sense of selfaccomplishment.
From my experience I’ve enjoyed
the opportunity to meet new
people and being able to take part
in all the different activities and
groups available. I would definitely
recommend it to any new students
joining the college who want to see
what the college has to offer them
in addition to their course.
STOCKPORT COLLEGE PROSPECTUS 2025/26 ENTRY 23
You must remember that studying
isn’t everything and sometimes
you just need a break. Going to
the clubs and college groups you
will learn something new but it’s
also a place where you can just
relax and be yourself.
Take risks and do something that
might push you out of your comfort
zone because you’ll find things out
about yourself that will help you to
achieve new things.
Definitely get involved with any of
the groups. I think it’s such a massive
chance that other colleges don’t
provide but it’s something that is
going to make you stand out on
your personal statement and your
CV. It’s also about joining in with the
community and having a voice.

STOCKPORT COLLEGE PROSPECTUS 2025/26 ENTRY
An apprenticeship is a real job where the student,
who is called an apprentice, learns specific skills and
understanding, gains experience and gets paid.
An apprentice is an employee with a contract of employment and holiday leave. By the end of an
apprenticeship, the successful apprentice will have the right skills and knowledge needed for their
chosen career. It can take between one and six years to complete an apprenticeship depending on
which programme is chosen, what level it is and the apprentice’s previous experience.
Each apprenticeship has a defined contents and structure which is referred to as the ‘standard’. The
‘standard’ ensures that all apprenticeships offered by different providers have the same outcome.
WHAT SUBJECT CAN I STUDY?
The Trafford & Stockport College Group offers over 50
standards. An apprentice will have training provided by
expert staff, as well as being mentored and supported by
their employer. The employer and the college will work
together to ensure that the training package meets the
needs of both the employer and the apprentice. In turn,
this will support the apprentice to become occupationally
competent in their chosen career.

WHAT COURSES ARE AVAILABLE?
Our GCSE programme is a one-year exam-based package.
You will be expected to study the core elements of English,
maths, chemistry and sociology.
WHO IS IT FOR?
The general programme is most suitable for students who have narrowly missed their GCSE
4/5 grades in some subjects and need these to progress. Students who have not had the
opportunity to take their GCSE qualifications for a range of reasons, including ESOL
learners, will be able to take an aptitude assessment and have an interview to assess
their suitability for this programme.
The GCSE full-time programme requires a mixture of GCSE grades at 3 and 4, or a
successful assessment and interview.
WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?
Once you have completed this course you will be able to move on to one of
our further education courses with the potential to progress to university
afterwards.

FOUNDATION PROGRAMMES
Our foundation programmes at Entry 2/3 and
Level 1 are for young people who may have been
disengaged from learning, underachieving or
unsure about their study choices. Students will
be introduced to vocational and employability
skills alongside English, maths, digital literacy,
and citizenship to enable progression to further
study in the wider college, an apprenticeship
programme or employment. Vocational areas
available include Hair and Beauty, Digital, Creative
Arts and Media, Motor Vehicle, Construction Multi-
Skills, Horticulture and Sport.
PRE-SUPPORTED INTERNSHIP
Our pre-Supported Internships are in partnership
with Pure Innovations and provide a collegebased
internship for young people with an EHCP
not quite ready for an off-site internship and
supports the development of employability skills
alongside work experience placements.
SUPPORTED INTERNSHIP
Our Supported Internships are based off site
with a trusted partner and provide a unique
opportunity for young people with an EHCP to
enhance their employability skills in a real working

STOCKPORT COLLEGE PROSPECTUS 2025/26 ENTRY 79
Within Progression Curriculum we also have a range of bespoke
provision to support young people to integrate into college life and
learning so you know that there a starting point for everyone.
Your starting point…
COLLEGE READY
This is a pre-college course for young people who have just finished school and are thinking of coming
to college in September. College Ready is a two- day transition course which will help you to familiarise
yourself with our supportive college environment, take part in fun team building activities, experience
vocational tasters and have an opportunity to make friends, meet teachers and support staff.
If you are not quite ready to study a full-time course…
STEP INTO LEARNING
Step into Learning is designed for young people who are undecided about their future career and don’t feel
ready to access a full- time course or need support to enter the world of work.
This 10-week, 10 hour course will support young people who have been disengaged from learning to attend
college, helping to remove barriers to participation in education and re-integrate into a learning setting.
Learning beyond the classroom…
E-LEARNING
Our Blended Learning Programme is for young people who are unable to access learning on site due
to health issues. This mixed delivery programme will help you to overcome barriers to learning with the
ultimate aim to support you to on site learning. Your curriculum will be planned to coincide with parallel
on- site course to allow a blended approach, allowing you to attend in person sessions when you feel
confident to do so.
If English is not your first language, the
ESOL team are here to help you!
We offer ESOL courses for 16–18-year-olds at all levels
from Entry 1 to Level 1. The course will help you to
improve all your skills in English: reading, writing,
speaking and listening. We also study grammar
and vocabulary. We help you to prepare for further
study and work. You will also learn about life in the
UK and citizenship.
You will take recognised exams in Speaking &
Listening, Reading and Writing at the level which
is right for you.
As part of your full-time study programme, you
will also study Maths and take a recognised
exam.
After a year of ESOL you can progress to the next
level of ESOL or onto a vocational course.
