Letter
Finally (CeCe Peniston style)! Four of the
last five issues of Vegas Prime Magazine have
featured sports on the cover, but we’re off the
field and court and away from the ring with
celebrated restaurateur Elizabeth Blau, one
of the most respected and powerful people in
the culinary world of Las Vegas and beyond.
The talented, intelligent and charismatic Blau
is behind Honey Salt in Summerlin, Buddy V’s
in The Palazzo, restaurants in Texas and British
Columbia, most recently the first and successful
Revelry culinary gathering at Wynn Las Vegas
and so much more. Vegas Prime Magazine sat
down at the newly remodeled Honey Salt for
a catch-up and photo shoot with Blau.
If you’re in the mood for elevated libations –
and who isn’t? – we’re debuting two features,
Master Mixologist Francesco Lafranconi’s
monthly column Imbibe in Style and the
monthly Prime Pros in the Know, with the
inaugural cocktail featuring Absolut Elyx
at Hakkasan Restaurant at MGM Grand.
Also in the beverage world: Las Vegas
Distillery just celebrated its grand opening
in Henderson, and Bob Barnes has the 411.
Also in this issue of Vegas Prime Magazine:
Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Gardner
Minshew and his mustache; Cinn City
columnist Christina Cinn; Celebrity Takeover
guest Las Vegas showgirl Maren Wade; Mecum
Auctions and NASCAR Weekend; and shows
galore, including Lenny Kravitz, Brad Paisley,
Ray Romano, Earth, Wind & Fire, Dwight
Yoakam, Porter Robinson, Carly Pearce
and more
With Blau, Lafranconi and Vegas Prime Pros
in this issue, there’s only one thing to say:
Salud! Here’s to fine food and cocktails – always
and forever and ever, amen.

Canelo Crushes Berlanga
in Las Vegas: ‘I’m the best
fighter in the world’
Superstar boxer Canelo Alvarez retained his
unified super middleweight championship
with a unanimous-decision win against
Edgar Berlanga at T-Mobile Arena in Las
Vegas on Saturday, Sept. 14.
Alvarez floored Berlanga with a left hook,
his signature, in Round 3 and won with
scores of 117-110, 118-109 and 118-109,
so it wasn’t even close. ESPN scored the
shutout at 120-107.
The victory was the fifth consecutive
decision win for Alvarez, who last scored
a knockout win against Caleb Plant in November
2021. The bout was also the fourth
fight in a row in which Alvarez landed a
knockdown.
“Now what are they gonna say?” Alvarez
said during his post-fight interview with
media per ESPN. “I fight younger fighters.
They say I fight older fighters. They always
talk. I’m the best fighter in the world.”
Actions speak louder than words, although
Alvarez’s words are crystal clear. The crowd
was reported at a sold-out 20,312 at T-Mobile
Area. Our thanks to photographer extraordinaire
Tom Donoghue for his photos
from fight night.

OK, I have a confession to make. I
hate writing. I also hate reading.
So this should be interesting. Fun
fact: I wrote a column for two years in
Las Vegas Weekly titled Confessions
of a Showgirl. I bet you’re wondering
why someone who hates writing would
want to write every week about the
unconventional world of a modern-day
showgirl. The truth is I sort of just fell
into it. And it seemed like an easier way to
notoriety, which I can now confirm is not
the case.
Las Vegas is the land of opportunity. I
have been blessed to do so many things
here that I am completely unqualified to
do. I got to sing in dozens of Las Vegas
shows, including the one I’m in right now,
“Lady Like – A Retro Modern Burlesque
Show” at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. I got to
perform on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.”
I guest-hosted morning TV shows. Did I
mention I wrote my own column? Plus,
I’m cited as an authoritative source in
Wikipedia, so I’m legit.
Las Vegas is a unique town. I’ve had the
unique opportunity to document this
unique lifestyle. And that brings me to
the show I created coincidentally titled
“Confessions of a Showgirl,” which is
coincidentally based on my column by
the same name. Coincidentally, there is no
coincidence about any of this.
Now, let me address one thing all the
haters are ready to point out. I am not
a “showgirl” in the colloquial sense.
You see, that version of a showgirl is
5’10, poised, glamorous and makes
everything look easy. Think of me as the
redheaded stepchild except I’m not a
redhead. I’m also not 5’10. “Semantics.”
The truth is I have always had an
inferiority complex. I suppose being a
self-proclaimed showgirl at 5’3” in a sea
of 5’10” showgirls would qualify me to
have an inferiority complex. So, on the
plus side, I’m qualified for something.
But if the definition of a Las Vegas
showgirl is a “girl” who sings and dances
in a “show ” in “Las Vegas,” then I do
happen to meet those criteria. So, I feel
somewhat qualified to be the showgirl
with all these confessions.
is a true bucket list moment for me. It’s
one night only because I can only run so
much. I hope you can make it. It would
be awkward if I were just confessing to
myself.
If at this point you are still wondering
who this girl is and why I should come to
her show, I can’t answer that for you, but
I can refer you to my therapist. However,
I’m confident that if you’re interested
in the real, raw and unglamorous side
of the glamorous life of a showgirl, then
this show might be for you.
At the end of the day, a showgirl must
roll with whatever is thrown at her or
whatever she’s thrown into. (Sometimes,
quite literally.) If there is one thing I’ve
learned as a showgirl, it’s to expect the
unexpected … and here I am!
This crazy Las Vegas
journey started almost 10
years ago. While the initial
concept of “Confessions of
a Showgirl” was to capture
a fun, lighthearted look
at a showgirl’s world, life
happened. In addition to all
the quirky stories, I had to
dig a little deeper, or at least
that’s what my therapist told
me. So in preparation for
my show, I’ve had to write
many new confessions,
which sucks because, as
you know, I hate writing.
I also reveal some really
personal stuff because
they say run toward what
scares you. Running
scares me. Anyway,
I’m debuting my show
“Confessions of a
Showgirl” at Myron’s at
The Smith Center on
Wednesday, Nov. 6. This

How to look sexy when partying in Las Vegas
20
VEGASPRIME.COM | Oct. 6, 2024
H
ey, babes, when you’re hitting up the Las
Vegas scene, you gotta bring your A-game
when it comes to looking sexy AF! Here are some
killer tips to help you slay all night long:
HAIR
Rock those locks with some
fierce volume and texture.
Think loose curls or sleek,
straight styles to amp up the
glam factor. And don't forget
to lock it in place with some
bomb hairspray.
Sometimes, I like to go to
Dry Bar located in several
casinos and shopping
centers on the Strip to make
sure my hair looks great
from all angles. They also
get you in and out in a jiffy.
Or with a little more time, I
will go to Atomic Hair Salon
in Downtown Las Vegas for
a gorgeous vintage style
that will stay in place all
weekend.
MAKEUP
Time to go bold and beautiful,
babes. Smoky eyes,
winged liner and a killer red
lip are your go-to’s for that
sultry Las Vegas vibe. Add
shimmer and glitter for that
extra sparkle, and make
sure to set it all in place with
a bomb setting spray. I love
Urban Decay setting spray.
CLOTHING
Show off those curves in
some form-fitting dresses
or jumpsuits. Metallic accents
and vibrant colors are
your besties for standing
out in the crowd and adding
that touch of glam.
SHOES
You know what they say, the
higher the heel, the closer
to heaven. And you already
know how I feel about
breaking in those shoes! Stilettos
or sky-high platforms
are a must for elongating
those legs and bringing that
sexy vibe. Opt for comfy
cushioned insoles so you
can dance the night away
without a care.
So, my darlings, follow these
tips and unleash your inner
confidence for a night out
in Las Vegas that’s as hot as
you. Remember: The sexiest
accessory you can rock is
your own badass attitude.
Let’s slay, queens!

With all your time in Las
Vegas, what do you think
is the best thing in Las
Vegas right now?
It’s hard to believe it’s been
more than 27 years, but the
best part of living in Las Vegas
is this community keeps evolving.
It keeps getting more and
more exciting. We were a gaming
destination, then we were
an entertainment destination
with all the incredible Cirque
du Soleil shows.
Then we became a food destination,
then a wine destination.
Now we have more mixologists
and exciting cocktail programs.
Then came sports and
The Smith Center. We have the
arts. There is no better place to
live because there is so much
to do here.
And when you think that
we can’t possibly begin to
reinvent, Madison Square
Garden brings us the Sphere.
People are talking about it. The
creativity they have. It’s really
amazing how this city continues
to reinvent itself.
‘Las Vegas continues
to reinvent itself’
By Don Chareunsy
What do you think is going
to be the next big thing in
the culinary world in Las
Vegas?
You have this extraordinary
plethora of options on the Las
Vegas Strip. You have some of
the most talented celebrity and
Michelin-starred chefs. We
just had The World’s 50 Best
hosted here, but what makes
us unique as a culinary destination
is what’s happening off
the Strip and what’s happening
in our communities.
Our Chinatown has quadrupled
in size, so whether it’s
Koreatown, Thai, Vietnamese,
bubble teas, it’s just incredible
what the options are that we
have.
Watching this next generation
of incredibly talented chefs
who all got their legs working
for celebrity chefs on the Strip
but have gone on to greatness
– Brian Howard, James
Trees, Nicole Brisson – that’s
what gives us the gravitas that
we’re evolving as a culinary
destination.

My wish and my hope for the
future is more farms. We have
Sandy Valley and Pahrump,
but the more we can get the
product to source with more
farms and accessibility to
great product, the better.
You mentioned The
World’s 50 Best. Tell me
about Revelry, your first
one.
The Wynn, when they were
Mirage Resorts, really brought
culinary to this town with
Bon Appetit and the wine and
spirits focus and Uncork’d. It
really grew into an incredible
citywide event. Like any great
event, it had its life.
There was a void, a hole here,
and with all the incredible
talent here, we needed an
event to celebrate it. There was
a colliding and great timing of
The World’s 50 Best wanting to
bring an event to North America,
the LVCVA partnering with
Wynn and The Venetian and
Resorts World.
Revelry not only celebrated the
Wynn culinary team and wine
team and what Mariena (Mercer
Boarini) is doing with her
incredible mixology team but
also these young, up-and-coming
talented chefs from all over
California and the region. It
was really exciting, and I hope
it becomes an annual event.
There was a lot of revelry to be
had by all.
When we talked last week,
you were very passionate
about expanding into
education and culinary
training and mentioned
working with UNLV.
Our Women’s Hospitality
Initiative was launched right
before the pandemic to
counter the gender inequality
in the business and not blame
anybody. It’s men and women
working together to help elevate
women.
Everyone knows about the
glass ceiling, but there was
a fascinating study that noted
not the glass ceiling but a broken
rung on the ladder. Women
and men were entering the
workforce in equal numbers,
but women were falling behind
on the ladder starting with
entry-level positions.
Our Women’s Hospitality
Initiative, despite launching
weeks before the pandemic,
we were able to launch this
course, “From the Classroom
to the Boardroom: Leadership
for Women in Hospitality.” Four
institutes have taught it. UNLV
and the Culinary Institute of
America were the first to take
it on, then it was Florida International
and San Diego State.
Julian Serrano is retiring.
There is a lot of movement
in the culinary industry
right now. Do you think
it’s just timing?
Yes! You have to remember
we’ve all been here and at
this for so long. Bellagio just
celebrated 25 – I mean 25
years, restaurant years are
like dog years, it could be 150.
These have been extraordinary
runs, and nobody should

Honey Salt just had

It’s incredible that Honey Salt

one day and thought, “It’s been
11 years. Honey Salt needs a refresh
– we need a little facelift
here.” We were able to do it in
five days, just some fresh paint
and wallpaper and curation of
the bookshelves and finishing
up the kitchen.
I think it’s a warm, cozier

we stay creative. We are very
fortunate.

New Kids on the Block Announce First Las Vegas
Residency ‘The Right Stuff’ at Park MGM
30
VEGASPRIME.COM | Oct. 6, 2024
Multiplatinum pop icons New Kids on the Block announced
Thursday, Sept. 19, their first Las Vegas residency “The Right
Stuff” in Dolby Live at Park MGM on the Las Vegas Strip.
Following the success of their sold-out “Magic Summer
Tour 2024,” Donnie Wahlberg, Joe McIntyre, brothers Jordan
Knight and Jonathan Knight and Danny Wood are bringing
their talents to Las Vegas for a run of 16 shows at Dolby Live
beginning June 20, 2025.
NKOTB are thrilled to stage their residency at the stateof-the-art
venue, promising a production unique to Las Vegas
and designed to immerse their fans The Blockheads in a
heart-pounding night of hits, spectacle, celebration
and showmanship.
While in Las Vegas for their headlining set at the 2024
iHeartRadio Music Festival from Sept. 20-21 across the street
at T-Mobile Arena, NKOTB took over the Las Vegas Strip. Arriving
on a double-decker bus, they held a fan event and Q&A at The
Park hosted by iHeart’s Valentine, officially launching and
announcing the residency. The band then led a caravan of
mobile billboard trucks down The Strip.
“We cherish every opportunity that we get to perform
for our fans, but a Las Vegas residency gives us an opportunity
to take our performance, and interaction with our fans, to the
next level,” Wahlberg said of the new residency.
“We plan on maximizing everything that the amazing
Dolby Live at Park MGM has to offer, to create the most incredible
NKOTB concert ever. As well as everything that Las Vegas
has to offer – to create multiple events to directly engage with
our fans. Las Vegas will never be the same after The New Kids
and The Blockheads take over the town.”
Tickets for the following shows – with VIP, meet-and-greet
and travel packages available – went on sale to the public Friday,
Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. PT at Ticketmaster.com/NKOTBVegas, with
shows scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.:
JUNE 2025: 20-21, 25 AND 27-28
JULY 2025: 2-3 AND 5
NOVEMBER 2025: 1-2, 5, 7-8, 12 AND 14-15
“The Right Stuff” residency announcement is on the heels
of NKOTB’s “Magic Summer 2024 Tour.” With guests Paula Abdul
and DJ Jazzy Jeff, the tour sold more than 500,000 tickets and
stopped in 40+ cities, including Boston, New York and
Los Angeles.
Earlier this year, NKOTB released their new album “Still
Kids,” out now via BMG. “Still Kids” marks the first full-length
studio album from NKOTB in 11 years. The album features
14 new tracks and is full of pop anthems, dance tracks, love
songs and more. Lead single “Kids” continues to climb the
charts. NKOTB hosted their first-ever NKOTB fan convention
BLOCKCON last year.

Earth, Wind & Fire: ‘We love what we
do – there’s not a band out there like us’
32
VEGASPRIME.COM | Oct. 6, 2024
By Ed Condran
Earth, Wind & Fire continues to thrive since three members
from the legendary band’s early days continue to perform.
Bassist Verdine White, vocalist Philip Bailey and drummer
Ralph Johnson have been at it for more than a half-century.
“We’re still keeping it together,” White said. “We love what
we do. There’s not a band out there like us.”
Soul, jazz, pop, gospel, rock, psychedelia, folk and African
are some of the sounds that make up the Earth, Wind and Fire
sonic potpourri.
“We’ve always went out and did whatever we wanted to
do,” White said. “There were never any limits. We would just
go for it. We didn’t look around to see what anyone else was
doing. We had our own agenda.”
The band, which formed in 1969 in Chicago, has enjoyed
commercial success and critical acclaim. “Shining Star,”
“That’s the Way of the World,” “September,” “Boogie Wonderland”
and “Let’s Groove” are just some of the group’s hits.
“It’s been an amazing run,” White said. “We’re still together
after all of this time. But I think back to when it all began.
Part of it is that we formed at a very exciting, inspired time.”
Earth, Wind & Fire, who return to The Venetian for seven
shows Oct. 9-19, came of age during a revolutionary period
in music history. The Beatles were coming to a creative halt,
The Rolling Stones were at their peak. “Flower Power” and the
eclectic Detroit sound dominated the charts. And then there
was Woodstock.
“It definitely was an incredible time,” White said. “The
world changed. It was an inspirational period, a radical time
in the history of our country and so radical for the bands.”
Earth, Wind & Fire was off to a running start with its eponymous
album in 1971, and the band never looked back. The
Rock and Roll Hall of Famers have had an inordinate amount of
success in the studio. The band, which has sold more than 100
million albums, possessed an uncommon commercial touch.
“I have so many great memories making our music,” White
said. “It’s been a blast. I’m so thankful that so many fans have
loved our music.”
What hasn’t changed with the enduring Earth, Wind & Fire
is that the group remains a solid live act.
“We still love to put on a show,” White said. “We connect
with the audience, and I think we’ve grown as musicians, and
we still love touring. There’s still nothing like getting on that
stage.”

VEGASPRIME.COM | Oct. 6, 2024
Comedian, actor, producer, author and director Ray Romano
is returning to The Summit Showroom in The Venetian for
two nights of his signature standup on Friday, Oct. 11, and
Saturday, Oct. 12.
Romano began his career in 1984 as a standup in New
York, which led to appearances on “The Tonight Show”
with Johnny Carson and later with Jay Leno. After his first
appearance on “Late Night With David Letterman,” Romano
was offered a development deal with Letterman’s production
company Worldwide Pants, which led to the creation
of “Everybody Loves Raymond” for CBS.
The show ran from 1996 to 2006 and is still one of the most
popular and respected sitcoms in TV history. Romano won an
Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in 2002 and as one of the
show’s executive producers, he also received Emmys in 2003
and 2005 for Outstanding Comedy Series and shared a 2003
Screen Actors Guild Award with the show’s cast.
Romano made his feature-film debut in 2003 as the voice of
Manny the wooly mammoth in 20th Century Fox’s animated
hit “Ice Age” and reprised the role in four sequels. He was
also the subject of a 2006 documentary “95 Miles to Go.”
In 1998, he wrote The New York Times bestseller “Everything
and a Kite,” and his comedy album “Live at Carnegie Hall”
was nominated for a Grammy in 2002.
2019 saw the release of his standup special “Right Here,
Around the Corner,” the indie film “Paddleton” with Mark
Duplass and Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman,” with Al
Pacino and Robert De Niro, all for Netflix. Romano was
also seen in HBO’s “Bad Education,” with Hugh Jackman
and Allison Janney. His latest series “Made for Love” was
released on HBOMax in April 2021 and ran for two seasons.

“Invincible Shield Tour” with guest Sabaton took over new
markets in North America this fall with 23 dates. All shows
featured music from their new album “Invincible Shield,”
and the tour stops at PH Live at Planet Hollywood on
Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Metalheads are in for the show of a lifetime as few rock
or metal acts remain as much of a must-see live attraction
as Judas Priest. The heavy-metal powerhouse has spent
more than 50 years crafting a legendary career. Hailing
from Birmingham, England, in 1969, their impact and
influence in the genre remain unparalleled.
Judas Priest originally solidified their place in music history
with iconic albums including “Sad Wings of Destiny” and
“Sin After Sin” known for metal anthems like “Sinner”
and “Hell Bent for Leather” while pioneering the leatherand-studs
image now synonymous with the metal culture.
The ’80s marked their pinnacle with classic albums
“British Steel,” “Screaming for Vengeance” and
“Defenders of the Faith” generating timeless hits
including “Breaking the Law.”
Despite lineup changes and various challenges, the band’s
resilience remained unwavering. In 2018, Rob Halford, Glenn
Tipton, Richie Faulkner, Ian Hill and Scott Travis released
“Firepower,” which soared as one of their most successful
albums, alongside “Invincible Shield,” and was backed by
a global tour.
Amid health setbacks and the pandemic, Judas Priest
persevered with a 50th anniversary tour and Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame induction. After a headlining performance
at the 2023 PowerTrip Music Festival and the release of
their 19th studio album “Invincible Shield,” Judas Priest’s
unwavering dedication to spreading their heavy metal
legacy continues, promising to rock on into 2024 and
beyond.

Lenny Kravitz Headlines Park MGM
in Las Vegas From Oct. 18-26
42
VEGASPRIME.COM | Oct. 6, 2024
Ahead of releasing his new studio album “Blue Electric
Light,” four-time Grammy Award winner Lenny Kravitz
announced a Las Vegas engagement, “Blue Electric
Light Las Vegas,” with performances Oct. 18-19, 23 and
25-26 at Dolby Live at Park MGM.
Timeless. Explosive. Romantic. Inspiring. Cinna in “The
Hunger Games” films. How else to characterize “Blue
Electric Light,” Kravitz’s 12th studio album, and the man
himself? Kravitz wrote and recorded the project in his
studio in The Bahamas, and his mastery of deep-soul
rock ’n’ roll is once again established here.
As a relentless creative force – musician, writer, producer,
actor, author and designer – Kravitz continues to be a
global dynamic presence in music, art and culture. “Blue
Electric Light” is an impassioned suite of songs that
broadens this distinction and is the latest contribution
of a man whose music – not to mention his singular sexy
and always fashionable style – continues to inspire.
On the album, Kravitz’s talents as a writer, producer and
multi-instrumentalist resonate as he wrote and played
most of the instruments alongside longtime guitarist
Craig Ross. Kravitz crafted 12 tracks reflective of his
legacy as a genre-breaking trailblazer and entrenched in
the energy of the 21st century and beyond.
Ahead of the release of “Blue Electric Light,” it was
announced that Kravitz would headline the UEFA Champions
League Final Kick Off Show presented by Pepsi on
June 1 at Wembley Stadium in London, uniting football
and music fans.

Gardner Minshew
Southern charmer
Quirky, often amusing and entertaining
Who knew Gardner Minshew needed a pep
talk? During the second quarter of the Las
Vegas Raiders 26-23 win over the Baltimore
Ravens in early September, Minshew threw
an interception. Raiders All-Pro defensive
end Maxx Crosby pulled his quarterback
aside and gave him a verbal jolt that no
energy drink could provide.
“He grabbed me and just said, ‘Hey, we
got your back, dude,’ ” Minshew said
while speaking with reporters at the
Intermountain Health Performance
Center in Clark County. “ ‘We need that
Washington State Gardner. We need that.’
And I was like, ‘Man, you’re right, dude. Let
me see if I can go whip that up real quick.’ ”
The quirky Minshew, who threw for 4,779
yards and 38 touchdowns as a college
senior at Washington State University in
2018, turned it on during the second half
of the game, as the Raiders scored on four
consecutive drives and 13 unanswered
points to upset the Ravens in Baltimore.
The Raiders were 9.5 underdogs, but
thanks to Minshew leading the way, the
Ravens were beaten. Some, such as the
intense Crosby, weren’t surprised that
Minshew pulled off the unlikely.
The believers recall Minshew-Mania, which
swept Florida and some of the nation in
2019, when the Mississippi native became
the Jacksonville Jaguars starting quarterback
as a rookie. After Jaguar quarterback
By Ed Condran
Nick Foles was injured, Minshew stepped
in and had a magical season in which he
posted an impressive 91.2 passer rating.
One of the highlights of his initial season
was going 17-29 for 201 yards and two
touchdowns in a 20-16 comeback victory
over the Oakland Raiders, which was the
last Raiders game to be played in The
Oakland Coliseum.
The oft-amusing Minshew said he saw
“more middle fingers today than I have
in my whole life.” After spending the
last few seasons primarily as a backup
quarterback with the Chicago Bears,
Philadelphia Eagles and the Indianapolis
Colts, Minshew is the Las Vegas Raiders
starting quarterback.
No one knows how the season will
unfold, but it’s a certainty that it will be
entertaining since Minshew is lining up
behind center. Minshew is an anomalous
quarterback in an age of pro athletes
who answer questions in a robotic manner
and say as little as possible.
The outgoing Minshew possesses Southern
charm and quick wit. But don’t sell
the left of center athlete short. Minshew
can throw the ball, scramble when
necessary and lead a team. However,
sometimes he needs the uplift that only
a player like Crosby can provide.

Maracuya at Middle Child
Amidst the bustling ambiance of Las Vegas,
the midday eatery Middle Child creates an
oasis of tranquility, offering a respite from
the city’s energy. As autumn unfolds, the
establishment introduces a seasonal delight
called Maracuya, inspired by travels through
South America, most notably Peru. This uplifting
libation combines the grape-aromatic notes of
Peruvian pisco (unaged brandy), the tropical
essence of passionfruit and the creamy richness
of coconut and a touch of orgeat (almond syrup),
culminating in a captivating sensory experience
that perfectly complements the changing season.

Las Vegas
Distillery
Is Now Open
to the Public
By Bob Barnes
The Las Vegas Distillery in The
Henderson Booze District opened as
the first distillery in Southern Nevada
in 2011 after its founder, the late George
Racz, had helped pass the Nevada
Craft Distillery Bill making it legal
for distilleries to hold tastings and
sell bottles at their own stores. In 2022,
Las Vegas Distillery was sold to new
owners, and after being closed to the
public during a two-year, top-to-bottom
renovation, it has reopened with new
life and a completely new look.
The original hybrid pot and column
stills are being put to good use, and
several more fermenters and barrels
have been added, more than doubling
the capacity. One hundred percent of
the milling, mashing, fermenting,
distilling, barreling and bottling are
done in-house. The spirit-making
process has been in production for the
past two years, and in October the first
bottles of bourbon will be released.
7330 Eastgate Road #100, Henderson.

Currently, the spirits being bottled and offered
in the tasting room are:
• Cane- and grain-based vodka made with hard
white winter wheat and unrefined cane sugar
• Single-blend white rum with a base of black
strap molasses and unrefined cane sugar
• Rum-based coffee liqueur with anaero
bic-processed Colombian beans roasted
and cold brew extracted by Dark Moon Coffee
Roasters in Henderson, Belizean cacao,
Mexican vanilla and cane sugar
• A special limited-edition release of Overproof
Rum, a pure single rum, 100% molasses
fermented and distilled twice in copper pot
stills at 126 proof
• And two New Makes that are the start of
the progression series tracking the aging of
the bourbon whiskey and American single
malt from unaged to 6-, 12- and 18-month
unaged versions of the American Single Malt
mash bill and unaged version of the bourbon
mash bill.
Immersive tours are offered during which guests
are walked through each step of the spirits production.
The cost of the 45-minute tour is $25 (1/2
off for locals) and includes a welcome cocktail
and three tasters at the end of the tour. The tours
often sell out, so it’s best to book in advance at
LasVegasDistillery.com.
The original tasting room was gutted to create
an upscale cocktail lounge with décor that pays
homage to the glory years of Las Vegas in the
1950s and 1960s. An Old Vegas vibe is enhanced
with vintage black and white photos and a video
loop of the movers and shakers of the time and
iconic Las Vegas moments. A nice touch is a 1960s
RCA Victor television that has been retrofitted to
show videos of the distillery team in action. The
color scheme is rust and black with a dark brown
hardwood floor, cushioned chairs and couches,
which lead to a classy feel.

Tasting Room Manager & Brand Mixologist Cody
Fredrickson is an industry veteran of 18 years
with stints at Paris Las Vegas, The Cromwell,
Sparrow and Wolf and Scotch 80 Prime. He has
now come full circle, as he worked for George
Racz at the distillery back in 2011. Fredrickson
oversees the cocktail program and the distillery
tours and designed the cocktail menu of which
his pride and joy is the Pineapple Upsi-Daiquiri
made with Las Vegas Distillery Spiced Rum,
roasted and smoked pineapple, brown sugar,
vanilla and lime.
Adding to the fun is a Ripple printer that can
print any picture in the foam topping your drink.
“The Las Vegas Distillery’s cocktail program is
all about using the freshest, highest-quality ingredients
to create cocktails that truly showcase
our expertly crafted spirits,” Fredrickson said.
“For those who prefer their spirits neat, our
tasting room also offers the option to taste all
our spirits in a curated flight, with educational
insights provided by our knowledgeable team.”
Complementing the spirts and cocktails is a food
menu of assorted nuts, soft pretzel basket, artisanal
pizzas and charcuterie and cheese boards
featuring a selection of meats and cheeses from
local provider Cured and Whey and bread from
local Italian restaurant Monzú Italian Oven + Bar.
There is no distribution yet, so for now, the
only place to purchase bottles are at the Las Vegas
Distillery, which is open 12-8 p.m. Thursdays,
12-9 p.m. Fridays, 12-9 p.m. Saturdays and
12- 8 p.m. Sundays.

WHO: The handsome Sigi Baustillos, 30, who
is Mexican and Polynesian and has worked
at Hakkasan Restaurant for five years.
THE COCKTAIL: “The Heart and Seoul uses our
luscious Absolut Elyx. We blend fresh raspberries
and pineapple. We add a little Luxardo
maraschino with lime juice. We shake it up
until it gets nice and frothy, and you have
a very nice cocktail served in a coupe glass
with a raspberry and orchid garnish. It is
a vibrant drink in a dark, beautiful venue –
a bright pink cocktail in a beautiful blue bar.
When I make one, it gets the ball rolling for
other people to request it.”
SIGI’S FAVORITE COCKTAIL: “It’s a mood for me.
Are we celebrating? What kind of dinner are
we having? It just might be what I’m craving.
I do enjoy a classic Oaxacan Old Fashioned or
a Mezcalita. I like a little tequila (laughs).”
WHAT SIGI LOVES ABOUT LAS VEGAS: “I’ve been
in Las Vegas pretty much my whole life. My
favorite thing about Las Vegas is it feels like
you get to witness culture being made. We
have great history, but we’re still relatively
young, so we’re living and breathing the
culture Las Vegas is becoming. I love the
mixology here, too, of course (laughs).”
A LITTLE-KNOWN FACT ABOUT SIGI: “Hmmm,
I’m pretty transparent. I would love to go
back to school again. I studied business
and marketing with hospitality. I would like
to be involved in sports again because I’ve
played sports my whole life.”
PRIME PRO TIP: Hakkasan has its own valet.
It's complimentary if you have a reservation,
and it's close to the restaurant and nightclub.
IF YOU GO: Hakkasan Restaurant at MGM
Grand, 3799 S. Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas.
