Just as an assembly line moves

parts from one station to the next

for various stages of assembly, a

ropewalk twists strands of material

together as they move along the

set of checks and balances.

For all our time politics preyed

on the minority line.

A ropewalk is a long narrow building or line that

made ropes. Tall ships bought long ropes that

control the sails, like halyards (for hoisting sails)

and sheets (for adjusting sail angle). These can

range from 50 to 100 feet or more. Some several

of the line are not are recognised and improved.

Because, whenever one larger group attacks a

smaller line—whether defined by color, union,

or creed—minorities are often the first to feel

the crack of a whip. When our oppressors

The Sand Creek Massacre (1864): A brutal

attack on Cheyenne and Arapaho people by U.S.

troops, killing over 230 Native Americans.

In today’s polarized world, it’s crucial to recognize

that both liberalism and conservatism are broad

ideologies with diverse perspectives. While

liberalism often emphasizes individual freedoms,

equality, and social justice, conservatism focuses

on tradition, stability, and limited government

intervention. Neither ideology inherently teaches

hate; rather, it’s the actions and attitudes of

individuals within these movements that can lead

to negative outcomes. A justified hate so top

speak.

Historically, we’ve seen acts of severe racism and

violence committed by individuals or groups who

misuse conservative principles to justify their

actions. Here are ten significant acts of severe

racism in American history:

The Atlantic Slave Trade: The forced

transportation and enslavement of millions

of Africans to the Americas.

The Trail of Tears (1830s): The forced

relocation of Native American tribes, resulting in

thousands of deaths.

The Memphis Massacre

(1866): A white mob

attacked Black residents,

resulting in 46 deaths.

The Wilmington

Insurrection (1898):

A violent overthrow of a duly elected biracial

government in North Carolina.

The Atlanta Race Riot (1906): A white mob

attacked Black citizens, resulting in numerous

deaths and injuries.

The Tulsa Race Massacre (1921): A white mob

destroyed the prosperous Black community of

Greenwood, killing hundreds.

These stark reminders of the deep-rooted racism

that has plagued American history. The impact

A geographic area not creating a lot of publicity is the Faroe

Islands The Faroe Islands are a group of eighteen islands

located in the North Atlantic between Iceland and Scotland.

Their general location makes them closer to the European

Continent than North America.

Their settlement history goes back to the 6th century when

Gaelic hermits and monks inhabited the islands. Later in the

9th century, Norse Gells started going to the Islands. Around

1200 Norsemen rejected the Norwegian King’s politics and

immigrated to the Islands. The resulting mix of national origins

Tunnels are self-sustaining with tolls to pay for the construction.

FDA Issues Proposed Rule on Front-of-Package

Nutrition Labeling

View on the FDA Website

January 14, 2025

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

is proposing to require a front-of-package (FOP)

nutrition label on most packaged foods to provide

accessible, at-a-glance information to help

consumers quickly and easily identify how foods

can be part of a healthy diet.

The proposed FOP nutrition label, referred to as

the Nutrition Info box, would detail and interpret

the relative amounts of three nutrients—saturated

fat, sodium, and added sugars—in a serving of

food and would appear on the package’s front so

that it is immediately visible when a consumer

is deciding whether to buy, use, or eat the food.

Current federal dietary recommendations advise

U.S. consumers to limit these three nutrients to

achieve a nutrient-dense diet within calorie limits.

Nutrition Info Box

While calories would not be included in the

Nutrition Info box, a manufacturer could

voluntarily include a calorie statement on the front

of the food package, per existing FDA regulations.

See additional Nutrition Info box examples,

including those listing calories near the box.

Diet-related chronic diseases in the United States

are the leading causes of death and disability.

Many of these chronic diseases are experienced at

higher rates by certain racial and ethnic minority

groups and those with lower socioeconomic status,

compared to the overall average. Healthy eating

patterns, which are, among other things, lower

in saturated fat, sodium, and added sugars, are

associated with improved health, such as reduced

risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and

certain types of cancers. Providing informative

and accessible food labeling empowers consumers

to make informed choices.

The proposed Nutrition Info box would

complement the Nutrition Facts label that is

already required on most packaged food. While

many consumers use and benefit from the

Nutrition Facts label, regular use of the label is

lower among some segments of the population.

The Nutrition Info box would quickly provide

context for consumers on the front of food

packages by detailing and interpreting (through

“Low,” “Med,” or “High” descriptions) the relative

amount of saturated fat, sodium, and added

sugars in a serving of food. Other countries have

successfully implemented FOP nutrition labeling,

and our research and other data show that our

proposed Nutrition Info box could be useful for

U.S. consumers. Continues on 18.

Continues from 15.

The FDA conducted a literature review, two

sets of focus group testing, and a peer-reviewed

experimental study to explore consumer reactions

and responses to various FOP nutrition labels. The

first set of focus group testing provided FDA with

qualitative feedback and insight into the varying

ways that consumers react to and comprehend

FOP nutrition information and helped us

understand which schemes might be most helpful

for U.S. consumers to quickly and easily identify

how foods can be part of a healthy diet. The

second set of focus group testing showed that

participants viewed the FOP nutrition information

on beverages and non-beverage products similarly.

The experimental study showed that the black

and white “Nutrition Info” scheme with the

quantitative and interpretive percent Daily Value

performed best in helping consumers identify

healthier food options in a number of instances.

These results align with the scientific literature,

which indicates that interpretive FOP nutrition

information is helpful for consumers and simpler

schemes are easier for consumers to understand.

The proposed rule would establish a compliance

date of three years after the final rule’s effective

date for businesses with $10 million or more

in annual food sales and a compliance date of

four years after the final rule’s effective date for

businesses with less than $10 million in annual

food sales.

Critics of the FDA’s proposed front-of-package

(FOP) labeling have raised several concerns:

Critics CEFIE

Consumer Confusion: Some critics argue that

the new labels might confuse consumers rather

than help them make healthier choices. They

believe that the simplified warnings could lead

to misunderstandings about what constitutes a

healthy diet2.

Economic Impact: There are concerns that the

new labeling requirements could increase costs for

food companies, which might then be passed on

to consumers in the form of higher prices.

Fear-Mongering: Critics also worry that the

labels could unnecessarily scare consumers by

highlighting negative aspects of certain foods,

even if those foods are generally considered safe.

Industry Opposition: The food industry has

been vocal in its opposition, arguing that the FDA

is moving too quickly and that the proposed labels

could harm the economy and lead to unintended

consequences.

Existing Systems: Some critics believe that the

current voluntary labeling system, such as the

“Facts Up Front” labels, is sufficient and that

mandatory labels are unnecessary.

In the Heart of a Revolution

Son of a swamp yankee

In the Heart of a Revolution

Growing up as a Swamp Yankee in southeastern

New England was an experience unlike any other.

For Jacob, life was an

endless adventure in

the wild, surrounded

by nature’s bounty

and the echoes of

history.

From a young

age, Jacob and his

friend Alexander

were intertwined

with the military

world. Both too young to officially enlist, they

started their journey as drummer boys, learning

the critical skills that would later define their roles

in the Revolutionary War. Jacob understood that

the Massachusetts Bay Colony General Court had

ordered the formation of militia regiments in the

region since 1636. This historical legacy was their

heritage, and they were eager to contribute.

During his early years, Jacob absorbed critical

military skills that surpassed those of current

members. He mastered formation tactics, map

reading, and war strategies, each with its unique

templates. These skills would later prove invaluable.

Jacob and Alexander met for the first time on the

parade field. Their uniforms were slightly too big,

and their enthusiasm was undimmed by the weight

of war. The crisp morning air carried the sharp

beats of practice drums as the boys learned to

signal commands that would guide men in battle.

Their first evening in camp, the drummer boys

were placed at a separate table in the dining hall.

A long, uneven bench emphasized their status as

a group of their own. Jacob and Alexander ended

up side by side, each balancing a tin plate of stew.

Jacob, with his messy curls and mischievous grin,

broke the ice.

“I’m Jacob,” he said, extending a hand despite the

awkwardness of eating. “Where’re you from?”

Alexander hesitated for a moment before taking

the hand, his grip firm but cautious. “New York.

And you?”

“Boston. My ma didn’t want me coming here, said

I’d get myself killed.” Jacob laughed, though the

sentiment carried a shadow. “But someone’s got to

do it, right?”

Alexander nodded, his serious expression softening

slightly. “My older brother’s fighting. Said the same

thing to me, but… well, here I am.”

The two boys shared a quiet camaraderie as the

meal went on. The other drummer boys at the

table were absorbed in their own conversations or

too focused on eating, leaving Jacob and Alexander

to exchange stories about home, family, and the

lives they’d temporarily left behind. By the time

the candles burned low and the officers dismissed

the camp for the night, a tentative friendship had

begun to form.

Walking back to the tent, Alexander drew near.

Jacob felt the faint flutter of something deep in

his core, like caterpillars stirring in his stomach—a

curious mix of excitement and nervousness that

made his skin prickle. They stepped into the tent,

their friendship forged in the heart of a revolution.

26

As they stepped into the dimly lit barrack tent,

rows of tightly packed bunks greeted them, each

appearing full at first glance. The air smelled of

sweat, wood, and damp linen, a stark reminder

of the realities of camp life. Just as they began to

wonder where they’d be sleeping, a few snickers

broke the silence, followed by someone muttering,

“Oh, look, girls. Two bunks are empty, but you’ll

have to find them by touch”

Laughter rippled through the room as Jacob

and Alexander exchanged bemused glances. The

search began in the darkness, their hands fumbling

through the narrow spaces between occupied

bunks. It quickly became a chaotic, awkward game,

with boys jostling and grabbing as they navigated

the cramped quarters. Despite the discomfort,

Jacob couldn’t help but laugh, the absurdity of

the situation igniting a strange mix of humor and

exhilaration that he couldn’t quite place.

When Jacob finally found their assigned bunks,

tucked side by side near the back of the room,

relief flooded him. “Finally, Here,” he whispered

to Alexander, who dropped his bag onto the cot

next to Jacob’s with a tired grin. They settled in,

the noise of the barracks fading into a low hum as

exhaustion claimed most of the boys.

As the night wore on, Jacob became acutely aware

of Alexander’s presence. The heat from his body

seemed to radiate through the thin space between

their bunks, his breaths steady and warm. The

faint scent of him—a mix of campfire smoke and

something inherently Alexander—lingered in the

air. Jacob’s eyes adjusted to the dim light, tracing

the curve of Alexander’s face, the soft fullness of

his lips just inches away.

Sleep eluded Jacob as he lay there, unable to tear

his gaze away. There was something captivating

about the quiet vulnerability of Alexander in

slumber, his usually guarded expression softened.

Jacob’s thoughts churned, caught between the

surreal intimacy of the moment and an unspoken

longing he didn’t fully understand.

When the first rays of dawn broke through the

barracks window, Alexander stirred, his eyes

fluttering open to find Jacob already awake,

watching him. For a moment, neither of them

spoke. The world outside seemed to hold its

breath, suspended in the fragile stillness between

them.

In the early morning light, Alex woke suddenly, his

chest rising and falling as if he’d been jolted from

a bad dream. Jacob, who had been awake all night,

turned to him immediately. “Are you okay?” he

asked softly, concern threading his voice.

Alex blinked a few times, as if orienting himself,

then shuddered slightly. “Last night,” he began,

his voice shaky, “just last night…” He trailed off,

searching for the right words. Finally, he looked

at Jacob. “What we shared was, for me, amazing.

You?”

Jacob’s face softened, and a small smile tugged at

his lips. “Yes,” he admitted, his voice steady. “And

I haven’t slept at all.” He watched Alex carefully,

trying to gauge his reaction, unsure of what would

come next.

Alex’s expression shifted, a mix of nervousness

and hope crossing his face. “Can I hug you,

Jacob?” he asked hesitantly, his voice barely above

a whisper.

Continued on 28

27

For a moment, Jacob didn’t answer. Instead, he

stepped closer, reaching out to pull Alex into a

warm embrace. The hug was firm yet tender, a

silent reassurance that words couldn’t express.

When they finally pulled apart, their eyes met,

and a quiet laugh escaped them both—a release

of tension, a shared acknowledgment of the

unspoken connection between them.

They glanced around the dim barracks, ensuring

the others were still asleep, then leaned in almost

simultaneously. Their lips met in a soft, tentative

kiss that deepened with each breath, the world

around them dissolving into irrelevance. In that

moment, nothing else mattered—only the quiet

bond they had uncovered and the promise of what

might come next.

Jacob now saw Alexander’s body for what it

was—a masterpiece of raw strength and sensuality.

Broad and commanding, each sculpted muscle

seemed to defy reason, shifting with every steady

breath. The hard planes of his chest rose and fell

in an effortless rhythm, his skin glistening faintly

under the low light. There was a magnetism in the

way he moved, a silent invitation and challenge all

at once. Every inch of him spoke of discipline,

resilience, and something more—something Jacob

wanted to touch, to trace, to claim.

His legs, powerful and unwavering, carried him

with a confidence that bordered on regal. Every

step revealed the interplay of sinew and muscle, a

symphony of movement that made Jacob’s pulse

quicken. His abdominals, taut and defined, seemed

to beg for touch, each ridge telling a story of

endurance and passion. Yet, beneath the unyielding

exterior, there was warmth—an undeniable pull

that made Jacob want to draw closer.

But it wasn’t just his body. It was his presence.

He was electric, a force that made the air between

them hum with anticipation. Their eyes met

again, and in that instant, something ignited—a

connection so intense it left Jacob breathless.

Was it the echo of their shared past? Or was it

something new, something that had been waiting,

dormant, for the right moment to surface?

“It’s been a while,” Alex said, his voice richer,

deeper than Jacob remembered. It resonated with

an unspoken question, one that mirrored the

one taking root in Jacob’s own mind. *Do you

remember us?*

“Yeah,” Jacob managed, his throat dry. “You’ve…

changed.”

Alex laughed, the sound warm and familiar

despite the years. “I’d hope so. That kid you knew

wouldn’t have lasted long out there.”

*Out there* was vague, but Jacob didn’t press.

The faint scars on Alex’s forearms and the rough

callouses on his hands hinted at stories he wasn’t

ready to share. And yet, there was no bitterness in

his expression, no hardness in his gaze—only quiet

resolve and a depth Jacob hadn’t noticed back

then.

“And you?” Alex asked, tilting his head. “What’s

changed for you?”

Jacob hesitated, his pulse thrumming as his gaze

dipped—trailing over the body he had once

admired from afar. A slow, knowing smile curled

his lips as he met Alex’s eyes again.

“Lots,” he said, voice thick with something

unspoken.

Our Encounters of a Loving kind!

My first experience was at a renowned gay resort

tucked away beyond the heart of Palm Springs. By

5pm we faded into darkness, leaving only the two

of us in our shared destiny. Often as we hosted

events people from all over the world came to

stay at CCBC as well as a number of gay resorts/

bathhouses. Cruising spots can vary in popularity

and discretion, and many people prefer to engage

in such activities in a more private or organized

spaces rather than public areas to ensure safety

and legality. In Palm Springs, people from every

part of the globe explore our gay nightlife and

social scene at well-known bars, clubs, and resorts.

Resorts and Bathhouses: Many gay resorts in Palm

Hike this trail down to the beach, then walk south

Helping immigrants facing mass

deportation requires a multi-faceted

approach. Here are some steps you can

take:

Legal Assistance: Support organizations

that provide legal aid to immigrants. Many

immigrants facing deportation do not have the

right to a publicly funded attorney, so donating to

or volunteering with legal aid organizations can

make a significant difference.

Community Support: Engage with local

immigrant advocacy groups. These organizations

often provide resources and support to

immigrants, including legal advice, housing

assistance, and emotional support.

Raise Awareness: Use social media and other

platforms to raise awareness about the issues

immigrants face. Sharing stories and information

can help garner public support and put pressure

on policymakers to protect immigrant rights.

Political Action: Advocate for policies

that protect immigrants. Contact your local

representatives and urge them to support

legislation that provides protections for

immigrants and opposes mass deportation efforts.

Emergency Preparedness: Help immigrants

prepare for potential deportation by ensuring they

have legal documents in order, such as custody

arrangements for children and important personal

documents readily accessible.

Support Networks: Create or join support

networks that can provide immediate assistance

to immigrants in crisis. This can include offering

temporary housing, transportation, or financial

support.

By taking these steps, you can help provide

crucial support to immigrants facing the

threat of mass deportation.
