Unwrapping Potential
Academic Achievement
I am delighted to share with you the impressive achievements of our
pupils in the 2024 exam season. At Watson’s, academic excellence
isn’t just an aspiration, it’s a tradition demonstrated year after
year by hundreds of children. They excel right across what is
one of the country’s most extensive school curriculums,
and they do so because we foster the passions of each
individual pupil.
The results celebrated over the next few pages are all the
more remarkable because we believe in the potential of
every child, welcoming children with a wide range of talents to
Watson’s. We are just as proud of our five-year 100% pass rate in
Nat 5 English as we are of the 17 Watson’s pupils who scored the top
mark in the country last year.
It’s such an honour to send these remarkable young people on to the next
stage of their lives, well equipped to achieve in their chosen field and
contribute positively to the world around them.

At Watson’s, we provide a supportive environment where academic
excellence is complemented by unrivalled enrichment activities
that foster personal development and help create confident,
resilient young adults. We see the potential in every pupil,
with a personalised approach underpinned by our values to
ensure they flourish.
With an average year group size of 250 pupils, Watson’s
has more candidates sitting Nat 5s, Highers, and Advanced
Highers than most independent schools in Scotland. Every
pupil is put forward for their chosen exams, and I am incredibly
proud of the consistently high results they achieve.
We publish results for both our full cohort and our Top 100 highest
achievers, who consistently achieve grades that compare exceptionally well with those
from highly selective schools.

Our Approach
Strong
Foundations
Baseline assessments build strong foundations and identify areas where targeted
support is needed. Academic data is shared between Junior and Senior School to ensure
a smooth transition.
Progression Coordinators support pupils at key transitions: P7–S2 and S3–S6.
Individual learning plans identify areas of additional support.
Regular
Personalised
Support
Form tutors meet
with pupils daily,

them from S1–S5.

Targeted support
is offered based

Ongoing one-to-one careers support and interviews are organised by our expert Careers Team.
S6 pupils receive personalised support from a form tutor and specialist S6 tutor for
UCAS/college applications, meeting regularly for guidance and interviews.
Specific support is provided for S6 pupils applying for Oxbridge and medical courses,
including mock interviews.
