Dear friends
Thank you for inviting me to address your gathering and for providing me with the opportunity to present
to you, our dear members of the different chambers of the friends of WAS-NS, to present to you the state
and activities in and around our village.
My name is Eldad Yaffe. Since October 2023, I’ve been serving as the chair of WAS-NS Cooperative
Society (Aguda) and the acting chair of the local Municipal Council.
Both these two statutory bodies combined, carry the responsibility of managing the daily life of our village,
maintaining the infrastructure, as well as planning the development and future needs. We represent the
community to other agents of government and are responsible to provide for the welfare, wellbeing, and
interests of members and other residents.
The Cooperative Society Committee runs the society’s property, building and housing development, the
hotel, the community swimming pool and so forth.
The members of the two committees are:
Eitan Kremer, Ety Edlond, Moris ben Yshai, Shireen Najjar, Walid Hasnin, Meytal Roso. Shahed Abu
Hamed has recently join the committee as a representative of the Amota.
Unfortunately, the events of the time passed since I took office, did not provide us with the opportunity to
get to know one another. Except for perhaps two or three of you, we’ve never met. I hope we can soon
change that.
Unlike my predecessor who were among the founding members of NS, I am a relatively new member in the
community. We moved here just over seven years ago.

Since I mentioned “predecessor” & “founding members”, I’d like to pay tribute to the memory of Anwar
Daud, who served for many years as chair of the Society and was a main figure of the community, an
educator, a role model and leader, who recently passed away.
Obviously, I’m addressing you as part of my duties to representer our community and as such want to first
of all say that the mere fact that this gathering is taking place under the current circumstances, the initiative
and efforts of the hosts, the preparations by organizers and effort made by each of the participants to attend
the GM, is an encouragement and a source of light for all of us here at WAS-NS. It means a lot to us. Thank
you.
The events still unfolding, starting with the pogrom of October 7th, the Hamas terrorist attacks across the
Israeli side of the security fence separating Gaza and Israel, unleashed an unimaginable and unprecedented
response from the Israeli government and military. Unrestrained killing and destruction all over the Gaza
strip. The discriminate killing of thousands and thousands of babies, men and women, young and old, the
destruction of entire towns and communities, of hospitals and schools is incomprehensible.
The seemingly indifference of the rest of the world to this psychotic outburst of violence and inability to put
an end to it, is depressing, discouraging. These feelings of hopelessness and helplessness dominate our lives
and shape our days. The effect of this ongoing madness is widespread causing pain and suffering and a
threat to so many lives on both sides of the conflict.
What we are living now is for many here and around us, both a fulfillment of a prophecy we were warning
of, waking up to a nightmare, yet non the less a turn of events that we cannot comprehend, that makes
absolutely no sense. A man-made catastrophe that can and should be prevented and stopped at every step
on the way.

These have been trying times for us as a community of Jews and Palestinians and for us as individuals. But
we stick together. We continue to support each other, to work together, to look out for each other. It probably
is not the time to build bridges and promote groundbreaking peace initiatives and activities, but we are
holding ground. Knowing that eventually this madness will come to an end, it is our duty and mission to
stick together to be here for the day after, committed to be at the forefront of the fight for justice, equality
and humanity. Not merely to clean up the mess, but to show the alternative way of building a shared future.
While it is central for us as individuals to be active as best we can in the different forms of protest against
the atrocities resulting from the governments reaction to the attack on October 7th, 2023, as a committee
elected to serve our community we have set our goals and would now like to say a few words about these
goals.
To deal with the serious issues listed above, as well as to deal with the day-to-day, a division of
responsibilities will be made between the activists. Teams will be established with the cooperation of
veterans, young people, former activists and new entrants.
• The resilience team: A team of active volunteers, residents of the village to be first responders
for intervention and assistance in emergency and crisis situations. A competent, skilled and
cohesive team to provide information and provide physical, medical, mental and social
assistance to the residents of the village in dealing with an emergency according to the type of
event.
• Regulations and Procedures Examination Team
The WAS-NS community is growing and developing. The growth of the population, the
development of the village, calls for a fresh look at our conduct and administration. For this
purpose, it is necessary to clarify and adjust the existing bylaws and regulations in the
cooperative society so that they meet the challenges we face and the changes in our mosaic.
