New Record from
the International Istanbul Furniture Fair!
IIFF successfully Hosted
the Global Furniture Industry
The International Istanbul Furniture Fair (IIFF
2025), one of the three most prestigious global
gatherings in the furniture industry, set a new
record by welcoming over 150,000 visitors
from 170 countries. Notably, participation from
Iraq and the USA saw an increase of 90% to
102%, while double-digit percentage growth was
observed in participation from Gulf countries,
Central Asia, and North Africa.
Ahmet Güleç, President of the Federation of
Furniture Associations (MOSFED), stated that the
Turkish furniture sector had extensive interactions
with foreign buyers during the fair. He expressed
expectations of signing new business deals
exceeding $3 billion throughout the year. The fair,
organized by MOSFED at Tüyap Fair and Congress
Center and Istanbul Fair Center (IFM), spanned 25
halls and covered a total area of 250,000 square
meters, hosting over 3,000 brands.
Bringing the global furniture industry together
in Istanbul and ranking among the world’s top
three furniture events, IIFF 2025 once again
attracted immense interest from all over the
world. The fair, held simultaneously at Tüyap
and IFM, featured participation from over
3,000 brands from countries including Türkiye,
Germany, the USA, China, Italy, Kazakhstan,
Singapore, and Russia. This year, the fair hosted

more than 150,000 domestic and international
visitors from 170 countries, introducing an
innovative approach to the visitor experience.
With its revamped website, IIFF mobile app, and
international-focused marketing strategies, the
fair enhanced visitor engagement while further
boosting export opportunities.
Target: $12 Billion in Exports by 2030
MOSFED President Ahmet Güleç highlighted the
significant contribution of the fair to the industry:
“Turkish furniture is making its mark on the
world, and IIFF plays a crucial role in this success
story. Each year, the fair increases its added value
to the sector, making it not only Türkiye’s but
also one of the most strategic events for global
furniture trade. With 170 countries represented
and over 150,000 visitors, IIFF 2025 has once
again placed Turkish furniture on the world
stage. The high-efficiency interactions at the fair
are expected to result in more than $3 billion in
business agreements throughout the year. These
new collaborations will greatly contribute to our
journey toward our 2030 goal of achieving $12
billion in exports. By 2030, we aim for 1 billion
consumers worldwide to use Turkish furniture.”

A Strong Start to 2025 for Turkish
Manufacturers
Ahmet Güleç noted that while the 2024
fair attracted visitors from 150 countries,
this year’s edition saw an increase to 170
countries. He added:
“The rise in foreign buyers from specific countries
confirms that we are on the right path. Compared
to 2024, visitor numbers from Iraq surged by 102%,
while the USA saw a 90% increase. Additionally,
there was double-digit growth in participation from
the Gulf region, Central Asia, and North Africa,
further expanding the fair’s international appeal.
The growing interest from Europe, Asia, and Africa
demonstrates that the Istanbul Furniture Fair is
becoming an increasingly strategic global meeting
point for the furniture industry.”
Turkish Furniture Industry Grows Through
Design and Innovation
Emphasizing Türkiye’s global position as a
design and innovation powerhouse, MOSFED
President Ahmet Güleç stated:
“Over the past decade, our industry has written
a remarkable success story, increasing its share
in global furniture exports from 0.3% to 2%. As
of 2024, we have raised our export value per
kilogram to $3.57, with a future target of $6.
Our export goal for 2025 is $5 billion. Today, we
export to 213 countries, generating an annual
foreign trade surplus of $4 billion. Over the last
decade, we have accumulated a total foreign trade
surplus exceeding $40 billion.” He also noted that
achieving an 80% domestic production rate is a
key indicator of sustainable growth in the sector.
Visitor-Centric Innovations Boost Participation
IIFF 2025 stood out not only for its industry
collaborations but also for its focus on enhancing
the visitor experience. The redesigned website
and international marketing strategies made the
fair more accessible to global participants. The
IIFF mobile app provided significant convenience
within the venue, while the online ticketing service
expedited entry processes. Along with its initiatives
to expand the global trade volume of the industry,
IIFF 2025 also delivered a comfortable and effective
trade fair experience through digital innovations.

As is known, Denizli completed last year with
a 4.7% increase, reaching $4.4 billion in total
exports. We have made a strong start to 2025,
with our exports showing double-digit growth in
January. This year, we have set an export target
of $4.7 billion. Frankly, starting the new year with
such momentum is motivating. Particularly in the
second half of the year, we expect the recovery
in consumer demand from developed countries to
accelerate our exports. For this reason, the export
trend in the first half of the year will be the key
determinant of our export performance in 2025.
Exports Increased in Leading Sectors
In January, exports increased across all of our
key sectors. The province’s textile and apparel
exports rose by 7.2% to $116 million, electrical
and electronics exports surged by 25.2% to $86
million, iron and non-ferrous metals exports
increased by 21.4% to $62 million, agricultural
exports grew by 9.6% to $33 million, and mining
exports rose by 21% to $22 million.
Growth in 14 Out of 24 Exporting Sectors
In Denizli’s industrial exports, cement, glass,
ceramics, and soil products grew by 26%,

leather and leather products increased by 27.5%,
machinery and components rose by 13%, and
automotive exports saw a 17% increase.
In the agricultural sector, exports of cereals,
pulses, oilseeds, and their products drew
attention with an 87.3% rise. Meanwhile, exports
in the furniture, paper, and forestry products
sector increased by 26%.
The UK Leads
Exports to Algeria, Greece, Morocco, Sweden, and
Tunisia More Than Doubled
The United Kingdom maintained its leading
position in our province’s exports, with a 45.7%
increase to $56.4 million. The U.S. followed with a
36.8% increase, reaching $40 million. Italy climbed
to third place, with exports growing by 75% to
$37.6 million. Exports to Germany rose by 5.8%
to $31.6 million, while exports to the Netherlands
increased by 17% to $22.3 million. Notably,
exports to Algeria, Greece, Morocco, Sweden, and
Tunisia saw growth exceeding 100% in January.
When evaluating our province’s exports by
country, another noteworthy development in
January was Germany’s return to fourth place
after dropping in October and November 2024.
This reflects the impact of shrinking demand in
Germany on our province’s export performance.
The Central Bank of Türkiye Continued
Interest Rate Cuts
At its January meeting, the Monetary Policy
Committee lowered interest rates by 250 basis
points, from 47.5% to 45%. With this decision, the
central bank has cut rates by a total of 500 basis
points over two consecutive meetings. Markets
and the real sector have long anticipated that high
interest rates would be replaced with “moderate”
interest rates as part of the fight against inflation.
As the business community in Denizli, our
greatest wish is for improvements in the
investment and production environment. With
continued interest rate cuts, we expect access
to financing to become slightly easier, which in
turn should boost investment and production,
positively impacting our exports.
The U.S. Imposes Additional Tariffs on
Imports from China, Canada, and Mexico
The U.S. has imposed additional tariffs of 25%
on imports from Canada and Mexico and 10%
on imports from China. The decree signed by
Trump includes a notable retaliation clause,
stating that if these countries impose additional
tariffs on U.S. imports, the U.S. will further
increase its tariffs. However, these countries
have also decided to retaliate.
Meanwhile, Trump announced that the U.S. will
impose tariffs on imports from the European
Union, citing the EU’s tariffs on U.S. goods.
These developments have pushed the U.S. dollar
index close to the 110 level, while the EUR/USD
exchange rate has dropped to the 1.0250 range.
Ahead of the U.S. elections, our previous
assessments emphasized that Donald Trump favors
strong protectionist policies in global trade and
that a new trade war between the U.S. and China
could begin if he is elected.
While interest rate cuts in developed countries
are expected to boost consumer demand and
revive global trade, the threat of trade wars could
negatively impact global commerce.

China steps up to spur consumer demand
China’s State Council released an action plan
this March to initiate large-scale equipment
upgrades and trade-ins of consumer goods.
Over the past few months, the action plan has
been translated into concrete policy measures
by relevant departments and local governments,
injecting fresh impetus into the consumer

the economy. Flooring and building materials’
products are also among the categories that will
benefit from these schemes. Notably, Shanghai
has taken the lead by rolling out detailed rules
for its consumer goods trade-in schemes,
offering up to 20% subsidies for the acquisition
of flooring, doors, suspended ceilings, and other
decoration materials. The nearby province of
Zhejiang provides a 20% subsidy for old house
renovation materials, while Jiangsu supports
the application of green building materials with
a 15% subsidy. Other cities and provinces such

In his opening remarks, DENİB President
Hüseyin Memişoğlu said:
“We are delighted to host Italian Consul Daniele
Bianchi in our city. I would like to welcome all our
guests to Denizli and hope this meeting serves as
an opportunity for new collaborations.
I would like to touch on our export figures to Italy.
In 2023, we exported $280 million worth of goods
to Italy, despite an 8.3% decrease. However, in
the first ten months of 2024, we achieved a 14%
increase, once again reaching $280 million. Italy
accounts for 8% of our total exports.
When we evaluate Denizli’s exports by country,
Italy ranks fourth after the UK, the USA, and
Germany. On a monthly basis, Italy ranked third
in our provincial export list during September
and October this year. More than 300 companies
from Denizli export to Italy.
Our exports to Italy primarily consist of iron and
non-ferrous metals, textiles and apparel, aquatic
products and animal products, and electrical and
electronic goods. Prominent products in these
sectors include copper wire, profiles, braided
ropes, bed linens, duvet covers, bathrobes, woven

and enameled winding wires.”
Opportunities for Collaboration with Italy on

year, 30 companies from Denizli participate in the
Marmomac Fair. DENİB has also been representing
our province’s natural stone sector at the fair
for the past three years. Similarly, Italy’s global
reputation in the machinery sector is undeniable. A
few years ago, Denizli’s machinery exports stood at
$20 million, but they have now increased fivefold to
reach $100 million. At DENİB, we aim to enhance
our collaboration with Italy in both the machinery
and natural stone sectors.”

Denizli’s First Export Was to Italy 2,000
Years Ago
Continuing his remarks, Memişoğlu stated:
“Italy has long been a country intertwined with
the textile industry. Its deep-rooted knowledge,
modern machinery equipped with cutting-edge
technology, and innovative product development
capabilities make Italy one of the leading countries
in the textile sector globally.
Similarly, Denizli’s rich textile heritage has
fostered warm ties between our province and
Italy. In fact, Denizli’s first export dates back
2,000 years to the textile sector. It is known
that garments produced by the merchant Titus
Flavius Zeuxis of Hierapolis were transported
72 times from the Port of Ephesus to Rome and
sold there. This demonstrates that our ties with
Italy go back two millennia.
I believe this meeting will serve as a foundation
for new business opportunities and potential
collaborations, taking our relationships to the next
level. I wish for a productive meeting for everyone.”
