BWAA Taps Joan Taylor For<br />

Named Bowlers of the Decade<br />
Arlington — <strong>The</strong> <strong>Bowling</strong><br />
Writers Association of America<br />
announced veteran scribe Joan<br />
Taylor of East Stroudsburg,<br />
Penn., will receive the 2011<br />
Luby Hall of Fame Award and<br />
bowling pioneer Bill Bunetta<br />
will be honored posthumously<br />
with the Alberta Crowe<br />
Meritorious Service Award.<br />
<strong>The</strong> awards will be presented<br />
during the Columbia Awards<br />
dinner Tuesday evening, June<br />
28 at the Gaylord Texan Resort<br />
in Grapevine, Texas.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Luby Hall of Fame<br />
Award, named after the late<br />
publisher and USBC Hall Famer<br />
(Meritorious Service, ‘74) Mort<br />
Luby, is presented annually<br />
to a recipient who has made<br />
a distinguished contribution<br />
to print, broadcast, telecast<br />
or photographic coverage of<br />
bowling over an extended<br />
period of years.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Alberta Crowe<br />
Meritorious Service Award is<br />
presented to an individual or<br />
organization for outstanding<br />
long-term accomplishments in<br />
and for the sport of bowling.<br />
<strong>The</strong> award, encompassing<br />
the BWAA’s John O. Martino<br />
Award and the National<br />
Women <strong>Bowling</strong> Writers’ Jo<br />
Ettien Lieber Award is named<br />
after Alberta E. Crowe, former<br />

Joan Taylor, has covered<br />
bowling at all levels of the<br />
sport and business for 35 years<br />
and is a current member of the<br />
BWAA board of directors.<br />
Bill Bunetta, who passed<br />
away in March, 2010 at age<br />
90, was a bowling legend.<br />
He was a charter member<br />
of the Professional Bowlers<br />
Association, owned six world<br />
championships and is in 8 halls<br />
of fame. His only PBA tour title<br />
came in 1960 at Fairless Hills,<br />
Pa. Bunetta was known as<br />
“<strong>The</strong> Professor” because of his<br />
vast knowledge of the game of<br />
bowling and his great ability to<br />
teach the game. In 1995 he was<br />
the oldest bowler in history to<br />
roll back-to-back 300 games.<br />
