David Tett
FOUNDER AND PRESiDENT
INSiGHTS FOR
ASPiRiNG
ENTREPRENEURS
David's advice to
budding entrepreneurs is
clear: “Take risks, but be
prepared. Analyze your
market, identify a clear
need, and develop a
unique strategy that sets
you apart.” For those
looking to enter
the travel industry,
he emphasizes the
importance of
delivering exceptional
experiences. “The
industry is competitive,
but it's also full of
opportunities. If you can
identify a gap and
exceed expectations,
success will follow.”

ALEX TETT (DAUGHTER) WiTH DAViD
www.thetycoonmedia.com 10
For more than 35 years, Bushtracks
Expeditions has been a pioneer in creating
unforgettable safari experiences, blending
adventure, luxury, and cultural authenticity.
Founded in 1989 by David Tett, a Zimbabwean
with an innate passion for Africa's landscapes and
wildlife, the company has grown into a leader in
tailored travel and educational private jet journeys
known for its commitment to conservation and
community development. Headquartered in
Healdsburg, California, and Johannesburg, South
Africa, Bushtracks combines deep-rooted
knowledge with expertise to deliver life-changing
journeys that explore remote destinations across
Africa, Asia, and the Middle East..
FROM ZiMBABWE TO THE WORLD
David's journey is one of inspiration and resilience.
Born and raised in Zimbabwe, he spent his early
years surrounded by Africa's natural wonders. After
earning a degree in Microbiology in South Africa,
he began his career with the Agricultural Research
Board in Zimbabwe. As a Zimbabwean living in
London, David was often asked by friends and
acquaintances where to travel in Africa, where to
find the best game viewing, where to stay, and who
the best guides were. Recognizing a significant gap
in the market for expertly crafted safaris, he
founded Bushtracks Expeditions, a company
dedicated to showcasing Africa's beauty while
supporting wildlife conservation and local
communities.
In 1991, David relocated to Northern California,
bringing his startup company with him. Over the
decades, Bushtracks grew into a global brand
synonymous with luxury safari travel and exclusive
private jet journeys. Despite its success, the
company has stayed true to David's original vision:
to showcase Africa's stunning landscapes while
preserving its wildlife and supporting the local
communities that call these areas home.
www.thetycoonmedia.com 11
CURATiNG UNFORGETTABLE JOURNEYS
What sets Bushtracks apart is its meticulous approach to
crafting custom itineraries. According to David, every safari
begins with understanding the unique preferences and
expectations of the traveler. From there, the company draws
on its extensive knowledge of Africa's diverse destinations
to design immersive and exclusive experiences.
A day on safari with Bushtracks might include thrilling
activities such as tracking rhinos with expert guides, sunrise
balloon flights over vast herds of elephants, canoeing
alongside buffalo on a serene river, or exploring remote
wilderness areas by helicopter. After a day of adventure,
guests return to luxurious accommodations that blend with
their surroundings. Evenings are spent enjoying fresh,
locally inspired cuisine and warm hospitality from locals,
creating a perfect balance of exploration and relaxation.
BUiLDiNG A LEGACY: CHALLENGES AND
MOTiVATiON
Establishing a luxury safari company from scratch posed its
own unique challenges. Without a manual to guide the way,
David learned through experience and persistence. One of
his earliest lessons was the importance of exceeding guests
expectations. “You only get one shot with your traveler,” he
explains. “If their safari doesn't meet expectations, you
won't get a second chance.”
Despite the difficulties, the rewards have been
immeasurable. For David, the most fulfilling moments
come from hearing the stories of travelers whose lives have
been transformed by their journeys. These stories, often
filled with awe, gratitude, and joy, serve as a constant
source of motivation to continue striving for excellence.
COMMiTMENT TO CONSERVATiON AND
COMMUNiTY
Bushtracks' commitment to preserving Africa's ecosystems
and supporting local communities runs deep. Understanding
that Africa's wild landscapes hold both cultural and
economic significance, Bushtracks operates with a longterm
vision—ensuring these resources are protected for
future generations.
The safari lodges and camps that Bushtracks partners with
play a crucial role in fostering 'wild economies,' creating
jobs in remote areas, and supporting conservation
initiatives. By working closely with these partners,
Bushtracks champions sustainable tourism—ensuring that
local communities benefit from travel in a way that protects
delicate ecosystems and helps preserve ancient cultures
while strengthening conservation efforts.
RESiLiENCE THROUGH THE PANDEMiC
Like many in the travel industry, Bushtracks faced
unprecedented challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic.
With travel brought to a standstill, the company
experienced two years of revenue losses. However, David
and his team demonstrated remarkable resilience. They
proactively rebooked clients for future dates, secured
critical Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans to retain
their expert staff, and maintained their commitment to
delivering exceptional experiences.
www.thetycoonmedia.com 12
A COMMiTMENT TO
EXCELLENCE
With a guiding philosophy
captured in the quote, “With
passion, knowledge, and care,
our Bushtracks team creates
genuine, life-changing
experiences in Africa,” Bushtracks
Expeditions has created a
reputation as a leader in luxury
safari travel. Through its
dedication to conservation,
community, and adventure, the
company continues to inspire
travelers and set the standard for
transformative journeys in Africa
and beyond.
www.thetycoonmedia.com 13
One of the key lessons learned during this time was the
importance of maintaining visibility through consistent
marketing, even during times of uncertainty. This insight
has become a guiding principle as the company moves
forward, ensuring it remains a leader in the luxury travel
sector.
EMBRACiNG EMERGiNG TRENDS
According to David, Bushtracks is perfectly positioned to
lead in the growing demand for private safaris, multigenerational
travel, and conservation-conscious tourism.
The company's “Into the WildLIFE” flying safaris
exemplify this trend, connecting remote destinations while
offering luxury and comfort. Each journey is designed to be
both immersive and transformative, catering to travelers
seeking unique, authentic experiences.
LOOKiNG AHEAD
Over the next decade, under the reign of David, Bushtracks
aims to double its business, sending more travelers to Africa
and driving economic growth in the regions it serves. This
expansion aligns with its core mission: to support
conservation, empower local communities, and ensure that
Africa's natural and cultural treasures thrive for future
generations.
For David, this vision goes beyond business, it represents a
lifelong commitment to the continent that has shaped his
identity and inspired his career. By staying true to its values
of passion, knowledge, and care, Bushtracks will continue
to create journeys that leave a lasting impact on both
travelers and the places they visit.

CURATiNG EXTRAORDiNARY MOMENTS SiNCE 2009:
TRANSFORMiNG LUXURY TRAVEL INTO
LiFE’S GREATEST STORiES.
The travel and hospitality industry
is a dynamic sector, driven by
innovation and a diverse range of
companies. From global giants to
boutique experiences, these
leading players shape the way we
travel and experience the world.
One such key player is Evyssa
Vacations, founded by Csilla Dali.
www.thetycoonmedia.com 19
Kindly give us a brief overview of your
background and your journey since the
beginning of your career.
I grew up in Transylvania, Romania, under a communist
regime where exploring the world felt like a distant dream.
After the regime fell, I became fascinated by the idea of
travel, particularly to America. During college, I visited the
U.S., which became the first step in my journey of
exploration and self-discovery.
While working as a waitress in North Carolina to support
my studies, I met Lufthansa's North American Sales
Representative, who offered me a job at a Miami travel
agency. This fortunate encounter marked the beginning of
my career in travel. Over time, I gained expertise in airfare,
ticketing, and group travel, eventually relocating to Chicago
to open a new branch for the same agency.
In 2009, amid the economic downturn, I founded my own
travel agency, initially serving European expats. Over the
next decade, I expanded to offer vacation packages and
custom itineraries, building my business, Global Voyages
Inc., through word-of-mouth. I also traveled extensively,
visiting over 30 countries and forging relationships with
local suppliers to enhance client experiences.
By 2019, my business thrived, but the lack of work-life
balance led me to reevaluate my goals. The pandemic in
2020 brought a chance to reset. With a young baby and time
to reflect, I rebranded my company as Evyssa Vacations,
focusing on luxury, personalized travel. Today, I create
transformative journeys for clients, driven by a passion for
connecting people to the world and enriching their lives
through travel.
Brief us about Evyssa Vacation, what inspired you to
establish it, and what was the vision behind its
inception?
Evyssa Vacations is a boutique luxury travel agency
specializing in creating custom international travel
experiences. We work with couples, families, and groups to
design journeys that go beyond the ordinary, offering
seamless planning and exclusive access to some of the
world's most incredible destinations. Our mission is to
curate travel that inspires, transforms, and connects people
to the world in meaningful ways.
The inspiration behind Evyssa Vacations stemmed from my
lifelong passion for travel and the impact it has had on my
life. Growing up in Transylvania, Romania, I always
dreamed of exploring the world, and when I finally got the
chance, it changed my perspective on life. Travel became
my escape, my joy, and my way of connecting with others
but also of finding myself. I wanted to bring that same
transformative experience to my clients.
Prior to Evyssa Vacations, I spent over a decade building
Global Voyages Inc., a successful travel business focused on
airfare and ticketing. However, I felt the need to evolve the
business to offer more personalized, creative, and
extraordinary vacations. By 2019, it was clear that a
transformation was needed to align with my vision.
The challenges of 2020, though difficult, gave me the
chance to reflect and reimagine my business, and thus,
Evyssa Vacations was born—focusing on luxury,
customization, and creating meaningful moments.
Our approach is simple: provide highly personalized travel
planning that focuses on each client's unique preferences.
We craft itineraries that balance relaxation, adventure, and
cultural immersion, from pickleball vacations in Greece to
luxury group trips and romantic getaways. Every journey is
tailored to the client's dreams, supported by our deep
knowledge of destinations and strong relationships with
local suppliers.
At Evyssa Vacations, we don't just plan trips; we create
memories and moments that stay with our clients forever.
Our ultimate goal is to make travel as effortless and
enjoyable as possible, so our clients can focus on what truly
matters—living in the moment and experiencing the world
with wonder.
What sets Evyssa Vacations apart in the highly
competitive travel and hospitality market? Can you
describe the kind of experiences it offers that make it
unique?
At Evyssa Vacations, we're a boutique agency dedicated to
crafting personalized, one-of-a-kind journeys. Every trip we
plan is a reflection of our deep commitment to ensuring our
clients feel cared for, inspired, and stress-free. We focus on
creating unforgettable experiences, fostering strong
relationships with local guides and small businesses, and
making a positive impact on the communities we work with.
By limiting the number of clients we serve, we treat each
trip as a personal project, carefully curating itineraries that
bring joy and lasting memories.

“ At Evyssa Vacations,
we don't just adapt to
change—we embrace
it as an opportunity to
innovate and provide
even more
meaningful and
memorable journeys
for our clients
“
www.thetycoonmedia.com 21
www.thetycoonmedia.com 22
We are passionate about making the planning process
seamless, responding quickly and creatively to any
challenges. Our travel expertise and personal connections
with local operators ensure every trip is both meaningful
and memorable. One example of our work is a mystery trip
we planned for adventurous clients, where we took full
creative control, designing a surprise winter adventure that
included a historic castle stay, helicopter ride, dog-sledding,
and a custom scavenger hunt. This trip not only delighted
our clients but also strengthened our network and inspired
future ideas.
This is the kind of experience that defines Evyssa
Vacations. It's not just about where our clients go—it's
about how they feel, what they discover, and the memories
they create along the way. Every trip is an opportunity to
craft something extraordinary, blending adventure, culture,
and a personal touch that stays with them long after they
return home.
What strategies do you use to ensure exceptional
customer service and memorable experiences for your
clients? How do you address feedback and continually
improve your services.
We prioritize seamless communication, proactive problemsolving,
and meticulous planning to ensure a smooth and
enjoyable travel experience. We actively seek client
feedback and use it to refine our processes and enhance our
offerings. By fostering strong relationships with local
suppliers and prioritizing client satisfaction, we strive to
create journeys that exceed expectations.
What were the primal challenges and roadblocks you
faced during the initial phase? And What is your source
of motivation?
Rebranding to Evyssa Vacations post-pandemic felt like
starting from scratch, especially in finding a new customer
base aligned with our luxury travel focus. Transitioning
from Global Voyages, which emphasized affordability, to
offering high-value, curated experiences was a challenge.
Rebuilding the business required investments in technology,
a new website, and effective marketing, despite limited cash
flow after three years of disruption.
The shift in mindset from affordability to luxury travel also
demanded extensive learning and firsthand experience with
the destinations we offer. Visiting hotels, building
relationships with suppliers, and gaining knowledge were
crucial for the transition. What drives me is the positive
feedback from clients, partners, and the trust they place in
us, motivating me to deliver the best experiences.
Additionally, empowering my team of travel advisors keeps
me focused on making a lasting impact.
Can you share a milestone or achievement that holds
special significance for you?
The success achieved in 2024, exceeding expectations and
demonstrating the effectiveness of our new approach, holds
particular significance. This validates our vision and fuels
our determination to continue growing and expanding our
offerings.
What trends or changes in the travel industry do you
find most exciting or impactful? How does Evyssa
Vacations adapt to these trends to stay ahead?
The growing demand for personalized, experience-driven
travel and the rise of sustainable tourism are exciting trends.
Evyssa Vacations embraces these by focusing on creating
unique itineraries that align with individual interests and
prioritizing partnerships with eco-conscious suppliers. We
also leverage technology to enhance the planning process
and provide seamless travel experiences for our clients.
The travel industry has faced unprecedented challenges
in recent years. How did Evyssa Vacations navigate the
impact of the pandemic, and what lessons did you learn?
The pandemic forced us to adapt and innovate. We
prioritized client support, navigated logistical challenges,
and used the downtime to rebrand and refine our focus. This
experience emphasized the importance of resilience,
adaptability, and building strong client relationships.
What are your aspirations for Evyssa Vacations over the
next decade? How do you see yourself in the near
future? Tell us about your future goals.
“Over the next decade, my vision for Evyssa Vacations is to
become a leader in boutique luxury and custom travel,
seamlessly blending leisure and corporate travel to offer
exceptional experiences for both individuals and
businesses. Whether it's a dream family vacation, a
personalized incentive trip, or a team-building retreat, our
focus is on creating tailored itineraries that inspire, connect,
and deliver lasting impact. Custom travel fits perfectly into
both worlds—why settle for a generic trip when the
www.thetycoonmedia.com 23
experience can align with personal aspirations or a
company's mission to reward, motivate, and build loyalty.
My aspiration is to create a legacy with Evyssa
Vacations—a brand that not only sets the standard for
luxury travel but also inspires people to explore the world
in ways that are meaningful, transformative, and deeply
fulfilling.”
Provide a one-line quote that best describes your
business approach and vision.
“We elevate travel, connecting people to places
and unforgettable stories through expertly
crafted, hassle-free journeys that are distinctly
yours.”
What are the key qualities and skills you
believe are necessary for a successful
entrepreneur?
Successful entrepreneurs possess
adaptability, resilience, strong
communication skills, creativity,
problem-solving abilities, a clear sense
of purpose, a strong work ethic, and a
commitment to continuous learning
and growth.
What advice would you have for
someone thinking of entering
this space right now? What
would you advise to the budding
entrepreneurs in general?
Start by identifying your strengths
and passions within the travel
industry. Consider partnering with
an established company to gain
valuable experience and mentorship.
Embrace adaptability, build strong
relationships, and focus on providing
exceptional service. Remember that
entrepreneurship is a marathon, not a
sprint, so cultivate patience, resilience, and
a strong support network.

How Travel and Hospitality Leaders
Can Thrive in 2025
As a child, Danielle played
Innkeeper, welcoming guests
to her imaginary hotel on the
hill. Today, she takes in the warm glow
of her hotel's lobby and the lights
reflecting off gleaming marble floors as
she takes a deep breath.
As the general manager of this
boutique hotel, her childhood fantasies
continue to fuel her, despite her
weathering countless challenges over
the years, such as vacation rentals
redefining the hospitality landscape,
staffing shortages, rapid technological
changes, and so much more. Danielle
knows that as she steps into 2025,
things are only going to get more
intense. With the conflicting priorities
of investors, employees, and guests,
her continued success will demand
more of her than ever before.
She knows that while many things are
changing and pressures are mounting,
the fundamentals of hospitality remain
the same. Her hotel's primary purpose
is to meet guests' fundamental needs
for a comfortable night's rest. She has
proven over the years that delighting
her guests with an understanding of
their personal preferences, treating
them with heart, and seeing them as
unique individuals, has built a unique
loyalty in her customer base.
To keep up with increasing pressures,
Danielle realizes she must harness this
heart connection and a higher level of
emotional intelligence (EQ) all the
more.
Building a Resilient Team
As she thinks of her team, she knows
that they are the heart of her success.
The Market Forces Shaping Travel and Hospitality in 2025
The hospitality industry is evolving rapidly, requiring leaders to adapt to
significant market forces such as:
• Vaca on Rentals: Pla orms like Airbnb con nue to challenge hotels to
clarify and differen ate their value proposi on.
• Staffing Fluctua ons: Consistent staffing is difficult as employees seek
stability, work-life balance, and higher wages.
• Investor Expecta ons: Growth pressures favor large acquisi ons,
increasing pressures on independents.
• Rising Costs: From food to capital projects, increased costs are requiring
crea ve thinking and strategic planning.
• Return of Business Travel: Hotels must refine strategies to a ract
corporate and group clients.
• Guest Preferences: Expecta ons are all over the board from casual to
luxury, to alterna ve tourism.
• Economic Unpredictability: Fears of infla on and recession impact
confidence around investments in staffing and capital improvements.
• Socio-Poli cal and Visa Uncertain es: Socio-poli cal divisiveness and
immigra on policy changes are crea ng increased workforce instability
(physical and emo onal).
Yet they have been under significant
pressure, and she has not always
responded well. In fact on occasion,
she has lost her cool, feeling stuck
between business pressures and the
needs of her staff.
It hit home recently when Emil, a top
front-desk employee, confided in her
about his struggles balancing long
hours with his personal life, plus the
recent added fear of socio-political
uncertainties. She knows he isn't alone.
Many team members have been under
a great deal of stress coming out of the
COVID years and now they are facing
ever more instability. How could she
ensure that her team feels valued, safe,
and motivated in this changing world?
Danielle realizes the same skills she
uses to connect with guests will also
ignite loyalty and passion in her
employees. After all, the best
hospitality leaders are not just
operational experts but mentors,
communicators, and visionaries.
Simply managing is not enough; she
must lead with empathy and listen
wholeheartedly. She has a dynamite
team who is already competent in
running the business. The more she
leans into enabling and empowering
them, the more they can be part of the
solution to whatever trials they face.
As Danielle stands in the lobby,
watching a team member warmly greet
a guest, she feels a renewed sense of
purpose. Leading her team into the
future will not be just about running
the business efficiently; her success
will lie in creating a workplace where
employees thrive, guests feel genuinely
welcome, changes are navigated with
www.thetycoonmedia.com 26
resiliency, all while attending to the
bottom line.
This story may well be one of your
own, regardless of what aspect of the
travel and hospitality industry you are
in. The entirety of the industry is
facing market forces that require upleveling
leadership capabilities to
thrive through the dynamic changes
and uncertainties we are bound to
experience throughout 2025.
Lessons: The Human Side of
Hospitality Across All Industries
Hospitality is not just about service; it
is about human connection. While
service ensures smooth operations, true
hospitality makes guests and
employees feel seen, heard, and
valued. As we move into 2025, leaders
who embrace emotional intelligence,
adaptability, and a people-first
approach won't just navigate industry
challenges, they will shape its future.
The most successful leaders, across all
industries, will be those who inspire,
connect, and create environments
where both employees and 'guests'
thrive.
Six Essen al Leadership Skills for Success in 2025
In response to the above market forces, leaders must double down on the
following people-first skills:
1. Emo onal Intelligence & Empathy: Leaders must be self-aware and
compassionate while handling challenges in a way that supports
individuals' unique needs and the demands of the business.
2. Communica on & Recogni on: Employees need more informa on, tools,
resources, and apprecia on now more than ever.
3. Coaching, Mentorship & Empowerment: You can't do it all alone. Now is
the me to foster a culture of empowered leadership and decision-making
while developing team members and holding them accountable.
4. Innova on & Agility: Leaders across all func ons must engage team
members in diversity of thought, crea ve problem solving, and quick
solu oning to meet challenges ahead of compe on.
5. Leading Change: Leaders must be adept at naviga ng change for
themselves, while also leading change for others.
6. Authen city in Service: Staying true to the defined service brand while
adjus ng to guest expecta ons is key
Four Ways to Develop These
Leadership Skills
1. Training Programs: Invest in
leadership development, EQ
training, leading change, and
coaching workshops.
2. Mentorship and Peer Coaching:
Create structured mentoring
and peer coaching opportuni es
for emerging leaders.
3. On-The-Job Prac ce &
Feedback:
Provide opportuni es for
leaders to refine skills through
experience, offering guidance
and feedback along the way.
4. HR & Leadership Support:
Equip managers with tools and
resources to handle complex
challenges effec vely.
