Vario Press elevates with

Horizon BQ-500 perfect binder

Integrated commercial printer Vario

Press Limited has invested in a

Horizon BQ-500 iCE Perfect Binder

from IFS to elevate production

and streamline digital print

processes and to strengthen its

offline trade service.

The family run Berkshire operation

specialises in highly personalised

marketing campaigns with bespoke

targeting strategies that guarantee

maximum engagement with the

intended audience. It produces B2

litho print on two LED UV Sakurai

presses and B2 and B3 digital print

on Indigo and Xerox presses.

David Clarke, Managing Director,

explains the investment: “It

was time to update our binding

equipment. Our B3 and B2 Indigos

can now print and pre-collate multipage

documents, ie manuals, etc,

and now the sets can come off and

go straight on to the BQ-500. They

are then trimmed on our three knife

trimmer. It speeds up the whole

process. Recently we printed, bound,

and trimmed 1200 A4 84 page

manuals in a four hour work period.”

The four clamp Horizon BQ-500

iCE Binder is equipped with cloud

based iCE LiNK workflow that

provides access to an intuitive

easy to use dashboard. It reports

real time production analysis for

improved efficiency and profitability,

remote update capabilities and

scheduled maintenance resulting in

less downtime.

David expanded on the decision

to choose Horizon technology: “We

only looked at Horizon as we know

the quality of its solutions is always

very good. Of the many features the

David Clarke, Managing Director of Vario Press with

the new Horizon four clamp Horizon BQ-500 iCE Binder

BQ-500 has we especially liked the

book block thickness caliper that

measures the thickness of the book

block accurately for automatic setup

and the gentle soft drop delivery

that prevents damage to more

delicate books.”

He concludes: “The system has

only just been installed but there are

already signs that it will be a strong

addition to our bindery.”

Boost textile sales with Pantone’s

2025 Colour of the Year

The announcement of the Pantone Colour of the

Year typically generates a lot of buzz and sets

a colour trend that can influence everything

from home décor to graphic design, product

packaging, and even fashion. Each year’s colour

selection is often interpreted as a reflection of the

cultural moment, and the Colour of the Year helps

set the tone for visual design trends across the

fashion industry globally.

For 2025, Pantone announced the Colour of The

Year as Mocha Mousse.

Mocha Mousse (Pantone 18-1031) is a warm,

rich, and earthy colour that combines the depth

of brown with a subtle hint of red, evoking

feelings of comfort and sophistication. The name

itself evokes imagery of indulgent desserts with

a touch of coffee. This colour represents both

luxury and warmth, making it perfect for creating

cosy and inviting spaces or designs.

So how can you use the Pantone Colour Of The

Year within your garment range for 2025?

Whether you specialise in streetwear or

workwear, considering fashion trends will help

businesses stand out from the crowd. By staying

ahead of demand, heat printers can anticipate

what customers want and offer trendy pieces

at the right time. This approach also allows you

to attract fashion-conscious customers who are

looking for garments that fit their specifications

but look and feel good too. Additionally,

leveraging trends can help your brand stay

competitive while maintaining a signature look

that sets you apart from others in your industry.

Colour can be incorporated into various

elements of clothing design to create visual

appeal and enhance the overall aesthetic. It plays

a key role in fabric or garment selection, but also

in the decoration of that garment.

Stahls’ UK has made it easier than ever to stay

ahead of trends by adding the Mocha Mousse

Pantone, available at no extra cost when ordering

their Screen Printed and InkTra Heat Transfers.

Crafted with real plastisol inks, an expert mix is

the only way to achieve this precise colour recipe

when it comes to custom heat transfers.

Both Stahls’ InkTra and Screen Printed Heat

Transfers apply with a single 10-second fuse,

making them the quickest method in the

industry for adding the Pantone Colour of the

Year to apparel.

Canon demos ‘The Power to Move’ at Hunkeler

Canon returned to Hunkeler Innovationdays

(HID) in Lucerne, Switzerland where it

collaborated with industry partners in

showcasing the latest developments in its

high performance digital printing portfolio.

Under the theme of ‘The Power to Move’, Canon

showed how the power of digital print can move

people and move businesses forward and how

successful brands and print service providers

leverage Canon’s transformative technologies,

services and support.

It’s also a significant year for Canon which is

celebrating ten years in production sheetfed

inkjet. The company has been leading the way

since 2015, when it launched the VarioPrint

i300, which then evolved into the highly

successful VarioPRINT iX3200. Through the

design and development of such sheetfed

inkjet presses, Canon has gained unsurpassed

industry expertise and has similarly gained

unmatched experience from installing and

supporting over 700 sheetfed inkjet presses

worldwide. As HID is known for showcasing

the latest trends in cutting edge solutions for

continuous and sheetfed inkjet, this key industry

event was the ideal place for Canon to mark this

milestone achievement.

With the motto of this year’s show being

‘CONNECT’, Canon demonstrated the latest

developments in its technology portfolio and

how its end to end workflows can seamlessly

integrate with customers’ ecosystems. Visitors

across the digital segment, including online

printers, commercial printers, book printers

and publishers — and printers of promotional/

business communications, saw how Canon’s

technology and service portfolio has the power

to connect people, solutions and processes to

shape the future of print.

On Canon’s stand visitors were able to see an

array of technology, solutions and applications

demonstrating the ability of its presses to

connect to third party equipment both with

its own PRISMA workflow solutions and with

partners’ and customers’ own workflows.

The compact ProStream 2000 series of high

performance webfed inkjet presses, which can

print on standard offset coated and uncoated,

and on inkjet optimised media from 28gsm up

to 150gsm, was shown for the first time. Live

at the event, the ProStream 2133 printed an

array of high quality applications at speeds of

up to 133m/min, including various short run,

format variable brochures, direct mail, postcards

and calendars that were finished offline on the

Muller Martini stand using its Connex automated

workflow — and also on the Hunkeler stand

with the Gen8 EVO Cut-Stack solution. Canon’s

stand featured finishing equipment inline with

the ProStream: the Hunkeler web extender

for the best print quality output and Weko’s

new re-moistening unit for optimised product

quality and efficiency for continuous digital

inkjet production.

The highly successful varioPRINT iX3200 B3

sheetfed inkjet press, which customers globally

rely on for monthly throughput from one million

A4 images, made its show debut in its inline

configuration with a Horizon iCE StitchLiner

Mark V. This combination matches the market’s

most sophisticated requirements, producing

brochures with high variability and unparalleled

scoring and folding quality. Also demonstrated

with the varioPRINT iX3200 was its new long

sheet paper input, thanks to an adapted BDT VX

370 feeder with a modified exit height. Working

closely with partners, Canon showed how it can

drive customer specific production lines and

workflows through custom implementations of

its PRISMA technology.

With an expanding portfolio of sheetfed

presses, Canon is continuously innovating its

technology, reflecting its position at the forefront

of the digital production print market and

demonstrating more reasons for PSPs to partner

with the company and benefit from the growth

opportunities its broad portfolio of digital presses

offers. Visitors heard about Canon’s forthcoming

sheetfed presses, the varioPRINT iX1700, which

will efficiently produce average monthly volumes

from 300,000 to 1.5 million A4 images, and then

for higher volumes, the heavy duty, B2 sheetfed

press, the varioPRESS iV7, which will print up to

4.5 million B2 images per month.

In addition to technology, customer case

studies were exhibited, illustrating the business

benefits customers can achieve with Canon’s

reliable, high speed presses and its workflow

automation, and how Canon supports customers

with its professional services expertise.

Stuart Rising, Head of Graphic Arts at

Canon UK & Ireland commented, “Hunkeler

Innovationdays is a key industry event where

we can collaborate with our partners and give

visitors the opportunity to interact with our

business development and applications experts.

Real world examples will also illustrate how we

work with our customers to inspire them and

realise digital print’s potential for their business.”

Aligning with Canon’s circular approach, many

of the materials and furniture that were used on

the stand had been recycled from the previous

HID in 2023 and other recent events. During

the show, Canon printed on narrower width

paper to reduce cut off and paper waste, and

the materials printed on the stand were given

away as samples.

New Products

New SpeedBind perfect binder range

After extensive research and trials Glendale are

bringing to market the new SpeedBind range

of perfect binders. There are two models in the

range, one with a spine binding length of 320mm

and the other with a binding length of 420mm.

Both binders offer spine and side gluing, colour

touchscreen set up, 60mm book capacity, best

in class speeds of up to 400 books per hour and

adjustable clamp pressure.

This affordable range of perfect binders

makes outsourcing a thing of the past. Offer

faster turnarounds at a cost of around 2p per

book. Finance options, with no deposit, of just

£31.50 per week!

The new SpeedBind range of perfect binders

meet the rapidly growing demand for quality

and professional bound documents and books

where quality presentation, quick turnaround and

ease of operation are essential. The range consist

of two models the 320 with a maximum spine

binding length of 320mm, and the 420 with a

maximum spine binding length of 420mm.

Product Features: Colour touchscreen control

for fast set up; Digital spine adjustment; Milling

and notching spine preparation; Spine and side

gluing; Adjustable clamp pressure and time; Paper

dust extractor; Fast warm up time; 375-450

cycles per hour; Padding mode.

Operation of the SpeedBind is via an intuitive

touchscreen control panel. The touchscreen

controls the binder settings for mode of operation,

glue temperatures, clamp pressure, clamping time

and speed. Set up time is a matter of seconds with

quality consistent results across different book

sizes. No skilled operator is required, minimal

training is needed to start production.

Spine preparation on the SpeedBind range

is via the extra durable milling and notching

disc. This disc offers 20 milling teeth and two

notching blades. Before any glue is applied to the

spine, the book block passes over the disc and

a combination of the milling and notching tools

break up the paper fibre on the book spine. This

process allows for superior glue penetration of

the sheets which in turn, improves the quality of

the bind strength.

The SpeedBind accommodates twin glue

tanks for spine and side application. This

allows different types of glue to be used for

implementation. A stronger glue may be used in

the spine tank for better bind results, this may

take longer to cure than a standard glue that may

be used for side glue requirements. However, the

more vigorous glue for both spine and side gluing

can also be used to simplify the procedure. Also

included is the new tail structure, this helps to

stabilise the glue amount on the spine before the

book block meets the cover. The tail structure

removes excess glue which helps to produce

better forming of the book cover.

The clamping station on the SpeedBind has

adjustable pressure. Not all books require the

same clamp pressure, books can be under or

over clamped which will affect the quality of the

square on the bound spine. This isn’t an issue

on the SpeedBind range. It’s possible to reduce

or increase, depending on the requirement, the

pressure applied to the spine to negate any

issues with book clamping problems. It’s also

possible to adjust the amount of time the book

is clamped, depending on the cover and sheets

used this will also increase the bind quality of the

finished presentation.

Included with the SpeedBind is a paper dust

extractor. Paper dust particles can build up in

perfect binders during spine preparation, this

happens when the milling and notching of the

paper fibres take place. This dust extractor works

during the milling process and paper particles

are stored in a cloth bag helping to reduce any

build up of paper in the binder. Often this is an

additional cost on binders, it’s a standard feature

of the SpeedBind range.

In addition to binding of books the SpeedBind

offers the flexibility of being able to produce pads

for multiple purposes.

New MUTOH

HydrAton 1642 water

based UV printer

MUTOH Europe has announced the release of the

HydrAton1642, a 64” / 1625 mm roll-to-roll printer featuring

innovative water based UV technology. First showcased at

drupa 2024, this environmentally friendly printer is now

available for sale through MUTOH’s certified distributors and

partners in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

BREAKTHROUGH AQUAFUZE INK

TECHNOLOGY

HydrAton 1642 is powered by AQUAFUZE, an advanced

UV-curable water based ink technology developed by Fujifilm.

This hybrid ink system combines the benefits of water

based and UV-curable inks, utilising Fujifilm’s proprietary

dispersion technology to achieve low-VOC, low odour, and non

hazardous printing.

Unlike traditional inks, AQUAFUZE adheres to a wide range

of substrates, including non-porous materials, without the need

for primers or adhesion promoters. The thin yet durable printed

ink film offers excellent scratch resistance without requiring

an overcoat, making it ideal for wallpapers, retail décor, indoor

signage, and public space applications.

ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS PRINTING

The HydrAton 1642 operates at significantly lower

temperatures (30–50°C) compared to conventional industrial

latex and water based resin ink printers. This ensures

compatibility with heat sensitive substrates and moreover also

reduces energy consumption and CO₂ emissions, making it one

IBIS unveil smart label binder

IBIS Integrated Bindery Systems

used Hunkeler Innovation Days

(HID) in Lucerne, Switzerland to

unveil a unique Smart Label binder

that will set new industry standards

in label production.

The new IBIS Smart Label binder,

a variant of IBIS’s well established

Smart binder, has been optimised to

produce ‘Extended Content’ Labels

(ECLs). At HID the Smart Label

binder produced Pharma ECLs using

lightweight (45gsm) ‘OP medical’

printed stock and IBIS’s advanced

‘ISG’ glue binding technology .

The IBIS Smart Label binder has

been developed by IBIS following

consultations with major label

company manufacturers and

includes world first technology

advancements. It was fed from

a Hunkeler roll-unwinder and

web-cutter using SCREEN printed rolls during the four days

of the HID show.

John Cracknell, Managing Director of IBIS, said: “With market

expectations of a continued sharp growth path for the global

pharmaceutical labelling market that is expected to be in

excess of £9 billion in 2025 with anticipated year

on year growth of more than11%, we are confident

that digitally printed ECLs (extended content

labels) will be an increasing future demand.

Pixel Prophet

Getting down to the bare bones

Martin Christie was planning on taking a break from Artificial Intelligence this month and looking at some

more simple functions in photo editing, but it’s always difficult to be both topical and also avoid a mention

of current developments — in this case, literally current developments

Last month, I wrote about the

stagnation of scanner technology

and that despite being around

for several decades, there wasn’t any

real progress in the software and the

hardware. This was noticeable in the

lack of new models or capture software

updates. I put this down to the fact that

among a generation that conducts most

of its activity on a mobile phone, there is

not much need for a desk-based scanner,

and therefore, with falling sales, a lack

of investment in the product. Digging

deeper, the actual truth is more complex.

Shortly after I wrote my column, and

no doubt prompted by those mysterious

algorithms which suggest topics you

might be interested in, I started getting

podcast rumours from photographers

predicting that Epson were, in fact,

phasing out production of some of their

expensive top-end scanners.

This was immediately challenged

by an official statement from Epson,

but it was more of a clarification than

an actual denial, a bit like a football

team announcing full confidence in the

manager a week before they sack him.

It seems the truth is not just the lack of

sales, but the shortage of updated sensors

which are the very source of the digital

image. Scanners use a CCD device, which

is effectively dated since it was replaced

by a faster, cheaper CMOS in early

digital cameras.

Without getting into technicalities,

which frankly are beyond me, the

difference is how efficiently they

work. Most people think a digital

camera captures a picture like film

did, rather than electrical impulses. In

fact all modern capture devices have a

photosensitive pixel array which doesn’t

recognise colour but has individual red,

green and blue filters that recognise light

intensity and interpret the hue by process

of elimination. Electrical impulses are

then sent to a processor, which turns the

information into something that appears

to be real for us to view and eventually

print as hard copy.

Essentially, the older CCD technology

transfers that information in a more

New and ‘old’ technology CMOS vs CCD

linear fashion, which is very accurate,

but is therefore slower and also power

dependent. No problem for a scanner as it

is in no hurry and connected to the mains.

With battery-powered handheld devices,

however, this was an issue, as the market

demanded better, faster and more frugal

cameras. You can see why the resources

were quickly switched to the much faster,

cheaper CMOS, which also placed less

of a drain on the power source. And by

the relentless progress of innovation, the

more they advanced these sensors, the

further the CCD-based ones fell behind,

much like an old car model with an engine

that couldn’t be upgraded.

For much the same reason, there wasn’t

much point updating the related software

as the basic box was out of date, and in

any case, photo editing programs had

progressed by leaps and bounds during

the same period.

One advantage of the CCD, for example,

was that the slower and perhaps more

precise linear method produced less

noise — that electrical interference often

confused with grain — but as the very

latest software can cancel this out without

reducing clarity, it is no longer a benefit.

As a photographer, I have very much

been a part of this sensory evolution as

my first DSLR, some 20 years ago, was

a Fuji S2, much loved then by wedding

and portrait professionals as it produced

softer, more film-like images. That used

Memory card from my first DSLR in 2004 (16 Megabytes)

compared to my stash for 2025 (336 Gigabytes)

a CCD sensor with a then impressive sixmegapixel

count, but it trashed battery

life, especially if you took full advantage

of its top-end capabilities, and had a

frustrating time lag saving big files to its

meagre 16MB memory card.

Two decades on, my current Nikon

D800 — not even the very latest mirrorless

tech — sports 36 megapixels outputting

multiple single files at effectively 300ppi

A2 dimensions without even pausing to

catch its breath.

Most importantly, unprocessed

RAW files have much more scope for

adjustment and enhancement than even

the best-processed TIFF provided by a

scanner. Obviously, the scanner is still

the most convenient for general users.

But there is no doubt that specialist

photography has overtaken the glass.

I emphasise the speciality bit as I was

recently reminded of the knowledge base

required when a fellow professional asked

for advice on a particularly tricky job.

While he was very competent at weddings

and portraits, he was obviously well out

of his comfort zone with something more

unusual. Just having a good camera isn’t

enough. Like the print business, buying

the kit is the easy bit!

Image editing is much the same. Just

having Photoshop doesn’t mean that

you can use it properly after only basic

training, as much like learning to drive.

Once you’ve passed your test, the proper

learning curve starts. As it gets more

complicated, the temptation to rely more

on AI to do the thinking rather than draw

on experience is hard to avoid but it’s

important to understand the basics before

resorting to the fancy stuff.

Many of the features of photo editing are

14 | MARCH 2025 QUICKPRINTPRO.CO.UK

Pixel Prophet

remarkably similar to essential darkroom techniques with film

and even have the same names, but with the source being digital,

it opens up so many more fascinating possibilities, which we are

all still exploring and learning from.

One of the most important is the layer. By making what is

effectively an identical copy you can then perform any alterations

to that without affecting the original, which stays intact below,

and even alter the strength of those changes by adjusting the

opacity or the blend mode of the duplicate. And if you really mess

up, just delete it and start again.

UNLOCKING THE POWER OF LEVELS AND CURVES

One of the most common issues for print is an image that is

badly exposed and will print darker overall or in parts than

appears on the customers’ screen. In order to avoid that

awkward explanation at the counter, it is sometimes quicker to

make a small correction to suit the expected print output and

wasted paper.

Under Image>Adjust in Photoshop the very first option is

Brightness and Contrast but even Adobe says don’t ever use

it, they just kept it in there so the interface looked familiar

for previous users. It’s such a crude tool it’s like using a

shovel instead of a spoon. Exposure, in the same column

isn’t much better.

The proper tools that reveal the bare skeleton bones of a

digital file are Levels and Curves. They both display the same

information but in different formats and work in different ways

to achieve similar results, so you can use either, it’s just that

Curves is more complex and has more intricate controls. What

they reveal is the histogram which may look like a lot of squiggly

lines but is the digital equivalent of holding a negative up to the

light to see which bits are dark, which bits are light and which

are somewhere in between. At either end are the two extremes

of absolute white light and total darkness. These are the two

extremities where digital reproduction struggles, and the humps

and troughs in between are where there is scope for refinement.

Auto correction of colour, contrast and tone will tend to level

out these highs and lows but, of course, it isn’t always what you

want, and more selective attention is often called for.

In the example of an actual black and white 35mm negative,

you can see the two peaks, and the ideal exposure would be to

lower these and raise the shallow curve in between to give a more

even average. But of course, this is an internationally dramatic

high-contrast image typical of monochrome portraiture, so you

don’t want it to be uniform grey, or it will lose its impact.

That’s where human judgement comes in to choose

the amount of correction — just because you can doesn’t

mean you should.

The second example is the same image but in colour revealing

the different saturation of individual RGB channels, which can be

adjusted, and how the highlights in particular are blown out and

need to be reduced to produce natural skin tones.

In order to do this you need to use layers so you can overlay

the effects of levels or curves and then refer back to the original

below to see what they have done. You can either just duplicate a

layer or you can directly create an adjustment layer with levels or

curves - Layer> New Adjustment Layer.

There is a list of other possible adjustment layers in this

column, but if all this is new to you, I recommend starting with

Levels as it is the simplest, and once you get familiar with the

process, you can progress to more ambitious operations.

Subtle changes are difficult to spot on a bright screen, but

they may make a more dramatic difference in print. It very much

depends on the printer and print settings, so it is very much

Colour Historgram

Curves and Levels

trial and error. However, the advantage is that you can make

small reductions in the impact of the overlying layer by simply

reducing the opacity.

There are blend modes in the layer options as well, and these

can be quite useful, particularly with scanned documents that

can be either too pale or too dense. Screen mode will make the

whites whiter and Multiply make the blacks blacker in simple

terms. There are other ways of correcting exposure problems, but

combining this with layer opacity is the quickest, even if it is not

the most precise.

Both Levels and Curves have three eyedroppers, and these can

sample the exposure across the range to establish anything that

is absolute black, or absolute white from left to right, much like

the colour picker tool works. The one in the middle represents a

medium point of 50% grey. These need to be treated with care as

they are absolute reference points so that everything else in the

image will be calibrated around that chosen point. So you may

make a grey area pure white but desaturate most of the colour in

the rest of the image.

While some of these basic actions can be heavy-handed, with

adjustable layers you have quite subtle control over the output if

you use them carefully. It’s important to understand how these

work and why with digital imaging before you progress too far

with image manipulation and consequent printing. It was the

hardest lesson we film photographers had to learn to move from

the darkroom to the computer. Still, the basic science of light

hasn’t changed, only the technology, and of course, printing with

inks is still pretty much unchanged despite the change from

plate to processor.

The problems of mixing simple colours to create a desired

composite remain even with the help of Artificial Intelligence. n

up to seven signature strips to that side,

at no extra cost.

Personalisation From Data — Use VDP

Premier and Woodland Trust unite to host

tree planting event at Smithills estate

In January, Premier, the founder of the Carbon

Capture programme, partnered with the

Woodland Trust to host a tree planting event

at the historic Smithills Estate in Bolton.

The event welcomed 50 of Premier’s Carbon

Capture customers to actively participate in

planting 600 native trees, including oak, downy

birch, and aspen.

Smithills Estate, the largest site ever acquired

by the Woodland Trust in England, provided a

picturesque and meaningful backdrop for the

initiative. Nestled beneath the iconic Winter Hill

TV mast, the estate boasts a diverse landscape

of grasslands, woodlands, moorlands, and bog

habitats, rich in wildlife and steeped in history.

The tree planting event highlighted Premier’s

dedication to addressing environmental

challenges through tangible actions. By planting

600 trees, Premier and its customers are

contributing to carbon sequestration efforts,

biodiversity restoration, and the revitalisation of

valuable habitats at Smithills Estate.

Premier’s customers took part in an activity

known as “beating up,” an essential practice to

increase the success rate of tree planting. This

involved replacing young trees that had not

survived with new transplants, ensuring that the

estate’s newly restored woodlands have the best

chance to thrive.

The event took place following a significant

milestone for Premier, who have now donated

Knockout print new opportunities

with VeloBlade Nexus

Knockout Print is a supplier of digital print,

signage, graphics and packaging based in Kent.

They are the very epitome of a modern print

business, offering a vast variety of services to a

huge range of customers, at volumes and prices

to suit the modern purchaser of print. They won’t

rest until you are completely “Knocked out” by

their results. Knockout Print aims to provide

the friendliest, most proactive service out there,

giving you what you need, when you need it and at

the right price.

Knockout Print’s investment in the VeloBlade

Nexus has opened new opportunities. Last year

they invested in a dedicated Epson flatbed UV

printer, but without a suitable cutter, they couldn’t

complete jobs efficiently. Before this, their wide

format focus was on the roll-to-roll market. Now

with their purchase of the VeloBlade Nexus, a

digital flatbed cutter, this has enabled them to

more efficiently process their existing orders and

enter the growing packaging market.

In addition to the VeloBlade Nexus, Knockout

Print also acquired ZipCore Packaging software.

This software includes an extensive library of

designs, allowing them to effortlessly create any

box or point of display their customers require.

Initially, Knockout Print spent a significant

amount of time researching potential suppliers

and had considered purchasing a second hand

system. However, they found that potential repair

and maintenance costs outweighed the benefits. At

this point, Richard Marlow, Sales Director at Vivid,

visited them and presented an offer they couldn’t

refuse. Having worked with Richard and Vivid

for years and already owning a Vivid laminator

and creaser/folder they knew they could trust

Vivid’s reliability.

EVENT INSPIRATION

My Event Pass is a specialist UK event

Established in 1985 Eyecatchers has 38

As an event printing company, they

your customers, helping them make their events more memorable and

engaging. From small scale gatherings to large corporate events, offer a

The opportunity to test the machine’s capabilities

before installation provided Knockout Print with

peace of mind, ensuring they were making the

right choice with the VeloBlade Nexus. Additionally,

the exceptional service from Vivid stood out, as

the team guided them through everything, from

setting up jobs to assisting with design work.

The VeloBlade Nexus offers incredible versatility,

enabling Knockout Print to expand into a variety

of markets. They’ve utilised it for applications such

as vinyl cutting, e-flute boxes, paper over board

projects, and Dibond. Additionally, Knockout Print

plans to explore its router function for creating

Dibond sign trays

Knockout Print feels that the support provided by

Vivid has been outstanding. The assistance before

installation was invaluable, helping them showcase

the potential products they could offer their clients

and guiding them through the setup process. By

the time their new system arrived, they were fully

prepared and confident in initial use.

Unlike other systems where additional

functionalities come with escalating costs, the

VeloBlade Nexus includes it all. Without a doubt,

it was the perfect fit for Knockout Print. As a

small business, the quality, back up and price

point played a crucial role in their decision, and the

Nexus proved to be the ideal solution.

Ian Paull, Director of Knockout Print, shared,

“The entire experience of purchasing through Vivid

was seamless and a pleasure. They consistently

delivered everything we needed from the system.

Their comprehensive training and responsive

phone support gave us the confidence to fully

utilise the machine and continue our on-the-job

learning without the fear of customer delays”

The investment in Vivid’s VeloBlade Nexus and

ZipCore Packaging software has not only enhanced

Knockout Print’s offerings but has significantly

broadened their market reach. Knockout

Print’s experience with Vivid serves as a great

example for anyone looking to revolutionise their

production capabilities.

Readers’ Scribes

Something to share?

HEALTH KICK

My doctor has advised me to stop drinking.

It’s going to be a massive change for me.

I’ve been with that doctor for 15 years.

TALL STORY

I recently bought my first home; it is a bungalow.

I considered purchasing a house, but that

is another story.

MONKEY BUSINESS

There is a story about a man who visited a

beautiful monastery. It was in the mountains and

the only way to reach the monastery was in a

rope basket that was pulled up to the chapel. The

man noticed the rope was quite frayed. So, he

asked a monk how often they replace the rope.

The monk answered every time it breaks!

While interviewing potential employees, a

supervisor told the first applicant that they

needed someone responsible to fill this role.

The applicant responded, “At my last job when

something happened, my boss always told me I

was responsible!”

As I get older, my body is more and more like

the economy. My hairline is in recession, my

stomach seems to be always inflating, and the

combination of the two has me in a depression.

I was at a bar last night talking with a limo

driver. He had been in the business for more

than 20 years. Yet, complained of never having a

client. Such a shame, so much work and nothing

to chauffeur it

OLD STYLE CANVAS

IMPERIAL MEASUREMENTS

I used to work in a print and art supply shop. We

sold artists’ canvas by the yard, and you could get

it in either of two widths: 36 inches or 48 inches.

Customer: “Can you please cut some

canvas for me?”

Me: “Certainly, what width?”

Customer (confused and slightly

annoyed): “Scissors?”

NUISANCE CALLER

There’s a Labrador by my front door shouting

‘Buy!’ and ‘Sell!’ into a mobile phone. I’m sick of

dogs doing their business outside my house.

TIME OF THE YEAR

What is a leg’s favourite month? March.

Why are oak trees so forgiving? Every March

they “turn over a new leaf”.

What March flowers grow on faces? Tulips

Why is March the most popular month to use a

trampoline? It’s springtime.

What falls during March but never gets

hurt? The rain.

What goes up when March rain comes

down? An umbrella.

Can February March? No, but April May.

Sometimes February feels like it will last forever.

But time Marches on.

What did the lazy non-thinker say on

the 4th March?

Man 1: Did you know that Pancake Day is

in March? Man 2: Is that so? It just creped up

on us, didn’t it?

HEARING LOSS

Patient: Doctor, I’m thinking that I may be

losing my hearing.

Doctor: Can you tell me what you know

of the symptoms?

Patient: Homer is bald and fat, Marge

has blue hair...

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

I love being married. It’s so great to find that

one special person you want to annoy for the

rest of your life.”

IT’S ABOUT MY HEIGHT

Lady (to her doctor): “What l am worried about is

my height and not my weight.”

Doctor: “How come?”

Lady: “According to my weight, my height

should be 7 feet, 8 inches.”

HAIR TODAY

A man was going bald and told his friends he was

going to get a rabbit tattooed on his head as it

was a lot cheaper than an implant or a toupée.

His friends asked how getting a rabbit tattooed

on his head would help?

The man replied, “Well, at least from a distance

it will look like hare.”

VISIT TO THE ZOO

One day long ago, a Czechoslovakian came to

visit his friend in New York. When asked what

he wanted to see the Czechoslovakian replied, “I

would like to see one of the zoos in America.”

To his delight, the New Yorker took him to

the zoo. While they were touring the zoo, and

standing in front of the gorilla cage, one of the

gorillas busted out of the cage and swallowed

the Czech whole.

Shocked, his friend from New York quickly called

over the zookeeper. He quickly explained the

situation and ask the zookeeper what he planned

to do. The zookeeper asked the man, “Okay, which

gorilla did it? Was it the male or the female?”

Pointing out the female as the culprit, the

zookeeper then opened the mouth of the female,

looked inside, but found no signs of the Czech.

With which the man from New York shrugged

and said, “Guess the Czech is in the male.”

OH THOSE GREEK GODS

What’s the name of the Greek god of

humour? Hilarios.

CHASING HIS TAIL

As I watched my dog chasing his tail, I thought

how easily dogs are amused. Then, I thought

how easily amused I am watching my dog

chase his tail.

A FEW SHORT JOKES

Free briefcase, no catches.

Origami’s secrets? Twofold.

Ryvita. That’s a cracker.

Have you heard how to

calm tropical fish?

Apparently, keeping tropical

fish at home…

…can have a calming

effect on the brain.

Must be all the indoor-fins.
