CLINICAL MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING –

MASTER OF SCIENCE

The M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) offers training to those interested in working in clinical settings in the mental health and

human services field. Students completing the entire sequence of coursework will meet the educational requirements for the Texas State License

in Professional Counseling. The State of Texas stipulates passing the National Counseling Exam and earning 3,000 clock hours of supervised clinical

experience after earning the master’s degree.

Number of Credits: 60 Start Terms: Fall, Spring Delivery Mode: In-person, with some hybrid and/or online offerings

Length: 2.5 to 3.5 years, depending on full-time or part-time attendance

PRACTICUM FIELD EDUCATION

Supervised Practicum and Internships are completed near the end

of the student’s program. Practicum requires a minimum of 100

counseling hours. Internship experiences require a minimum of

600 hours under the supervision of a counselor in the student’s

area of interest. Students must apply for practicum and internship

and get approval from the practicum/internship coordinator one

semester before enrolling in the classes. The Clinical Mental Health

Counseling (CMHC) tracks are designed to prepare persons for work

in private or public agencies where the primary focus is on the

mental health concerns for clients of that target demographic.

CLINICAL SCHOOL COUNSELING – MASTER OF SCIENCE

The M.S. in Clinical School Counseling enhances the professional development of teachers who wish to become counselors in culturally diverse

schools. It prepares counselors to address individual and systemic barriers to educational achievement and personal development. Students will

develop competencies in assessment and counseling techniques to promote academic, career and personal/social development for elementary

and secondary students. Internships allow students to apply theories, skills and concepts learned during the program. Students who complete

all coursework requirements and pass the TExES School Counselor exam will be recommended for certification. In addition, they will meet the

requirements for the Texas State License in Professional Counseling. The State of Texas stipulates passing the National Counseling Exam and

earning 3,000 hours of supervised clinical experience after earning the master’s degree. Our program meets CACREP accreditation standards—the

main accrediting body for graduate counseling education. Our program is modeled for part-time or full-time attendance; classes are offered on

weeknights and online.

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS

A child development and family studies degree from the University of North Texas at Dallas provides students with an affordable path to gain the

knowledge and skills for a successful career working with children and families. The child development component of our degree program is distinctive

in that it emphasizes the development of young children from infancy to 8 years old. Our program also highlights human development across the

lifespan, which includes the cognitive, emotional, physical, and social domains from the prenatal period through older adulthood. The family studies

component offers an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the well-being of the family by addressing challenges over the lifespan and exploring

the dynamics between people within their families as well as those between families, their communities, and the greater world.

HUMAN SERVICES MANAGEMENT & LEADERSHIP –

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS

The UNT Dallas Human Services Management and Leadership program is dedicated to developing and preparing human service practitioners to

serve as leaders in nonprofit service agencies through education, research and service. Students are trained to become intellectual explorers with

skills and competencies necessary for effective service delivery, program management and leadership. The competencies are developed through

coursework in the areas of volunteer management, social work, sociology, rehabilitation studies, business, and applied gerontology.

Students may indicate an intention of majoring in Human Services Management and Leadership (HSML) at any point during the early part of their

academic career by declaring a pre-HSML major. They may consult with HSML advisors regarding degree requirements at any time. However, formal

acceptance as an HSML major program is contingent upon (a) earning a “B” or better in HSML 3000, (b) having a 2.75 GPA overall, and (c) approval of

a formal application for admission. Applications are available from program faculty.

PUBLIC HEALTH BACHELOR OF ARTS

A Public Health Degree from the University of North Texas at Dallas offers students an

opportunity to change lives by impacting and improving the health and well-being of

communities. Students have the flexible options of obtaining an Online Bachelor of Arts

degree in Public Health or an Online or Hybrid Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health.

UNT Dallas is the only public, accredited 4-year university in Dallas city. Our programs

provide broad-based and interdisciplinary degrees in Public Health designed to prepare

students anywhere in Texas for various public health careers. Both degrees offer 8-week
