~ The Board of Directors
OPERATING A SCHOOL
EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP
A group of disciples once asked Jesus a crucial question that 2,000 years later still
has deep relevance for the work of Bellingham Christian School.
“Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?”
Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him
whom he has sent.” --John 6:28-29
The work of BCS is to maximize academic opportunities. The work of BCS is to
deliver value to families during students’ most formational years. The work of
BCS is to steward facilities, finances, staff and programs with excellence. And in
all of this, the deepest work of BCS is growing faith, trust, confidence and
discipleship to Jesus for everyone in this learning community. This is the work of
God. This is the work of BCS. And the Executive Leadership Team is honored to
partner with you in this work!

LEADERSHIP
TEAMS
24'-25' BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The BCS Board of Directors is composed of parents who represent all members in The Association.
The Board governs policy and bylaws that keep the school on mission while charting a responsible
course forward. They direct and oversee the Executive Directors and Administration to support the
people, programs, facilities and finances of Bellingham Christian School.
New board members can expect to attend monthly meetings to learn, observe and provide input.
There are lots of pathways to exercise gifts and talents on the board. Typically in the second year,
board members have opportunities for leadership and support roles on subcommittees.
The executive leadership team also attends monthly Board Meetings. Any parent in the
Association has an invitation to attend and observe board meetings. These meeting are
accessible to you!
EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP & STRATEGY
This past year we’ve been transitioning to an Executive model of leadership. The Executive
Director of Care & Personnel is Brian Steele. The Executive Director of Operations is Darryn Kleyn.
Shawn Cunningham supports both the Executive Team and Development Team which provides
long-term planning and strategy for the facilities and financial stability of BCS. This is a vital
structure for sustainability, excellence and growth of the mission.
TO GATHER TOGETHER UNDER THE CARE OF WHAT GOD IS DOING AT BCS IS A BEAUTIFUL
EXPERIENCE; IT INVOLVES GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER, MAKING DECISIONS TOGETHER,
PRAYING THROUGH OPPERTUNITIES AND LEADING AS GOD DIRECTS OUR STEPS.

Bellingham Christian means so much to our family. The school has
grown so much since we’ve joined the family, and I see so much
more opportunity for growth. WIth my background in running a
business and in real estate, it’s my hope my experiences can
benefit the school as we move forward.

property investment, value add development
and supporting a BCS Endowment.
CURRENT OBJECTIVES

Purchased in 2021 on agreement to be utilized
as a new campus. The purpose was to
construct a replacement campus costing 14-18M
+ land. However, due to covid, code and inflation
the project costs would exceed $28M+ today.
It is not a prudent and wise decision to pursue a
project of this size today because it will restrict
the ability to provide excellence in people and
programs and put too much pressure on tuition
affordability.
Purchased in 2021 as a partner property to
Hannegan, it has current rental income, useable
10 acres and is a strategic holding.
ENDOWMENT
The Foundation was established by the Board of Directors many years ago. The past 10yrs the team
has focused on developing the Sunset property and have proceeds bless the school through the
financial vehicle of a BCS Endowment. In coming months, we’ll be wrapping up the legal structure
and introducing it to the community.
IT IS A TOOL FOR SUSTAINABILITY: WHERE WE EXPERIENCE OUR GOD AND
FATHER TO SUSTAIN US AND MYSTERIOUSLY PARTNER WITH ALL OF US,
EACH ACCORDING TO OUR ABILITIES.
