JULY/AUGUST 2022 EDITOR'S NOTE

4

EDITOR'S NOTE

It is a fantastic thing to be aware that you have the

freedom, capacity and power to choose what to

do and how to live your life at any given moment.

The freedom of choice is the most valuable thing

that life can give us. For our cover personality, So

Shien Yong, he decided to start his own company

producing watch covers for the Apple Watch after

realising that there were few choices for customising

the device. Shien Yong is only 27 and he aspires to

be the pioneer in the field of smart device upgrades

and customisation. We believe that he will realise his

dreams, including owning more Tropicana property,

which he has wanted ever since he was a boy. If you

put in the effort and have a burning desire to succeed,

nothing will stand in your way.

Speaking of success, Tropicana recently marked a

significant milestone as it celebrated two momentous

achievements - the unveiling of Tropicana WindCity

in Genting Highlands and the improved T Privilege

loyalty programme. Redefining the art of living for

over 40 years, we’re happy to note that Tropicana’s

brand equity continues to rise as it innovates and

builds new developments for the benefit of Malaysian

communities. Another accomplishment is Tropicana

Golf & Country Resort’s (“TGCR”) pioneering use of

dragonflies as a biocontrol mechanism is showing

promising results! This issue also features fun and

informative reads such as time-saving kitchen hacks,

hair care tips, statement jewellery, the latest bags

and shoes, the new Suzuki Swift Sport, delectable

Malaysian specialties at TGCR and Tropicana Gardens

Mall, and more. With that, we wish you the best of

luck in your endeavours, and a joyful Merdeka!

“I’m originally from India and have lived in Malaysia for the

past ten years. Malaysia is unlike any other country in that

it is a melting pot of three main cultures. It lives true to its

name, bringing together food, festivals and excitement from

Malay, Chinese and Indian cultures to create a one-of-akind

living experience. Because of the country’s multi-racial

nature, one may easily feel at home any place they go; for

example, when I’m in Brickfields, I feel like I’m back home

in India! After growing up in Malaysia, immersing myself in

the culture and making Malaysian friends, I actually feel very

much at home here.”

“I was born in Brazil and have

been living in Malaysia for over a

year now. I love it here especially

because it’s always sunny, which

I appreciate. Temperatures in

the southern part of Brazil are consistent, with hot summers

and frigid winters, even though there is no snow. Malaysia

appeals to me for a number of reasons, among which, is the

abundance of beautiful islands to visit and explore.”

“Being a Malaysian there is an

inexplicable feeling of selfattachment

towards the nation

and its people. The Malaysian

sense of self-identity and

belonging is solid. Plus, a patchwork of various customs,

traditions and heritage co-exist to form the distinct

Malaysian way of life, which can be found nowhere else.

And, communities such as those present within SJIIM make

Malaysia a comforting, welcoming and inclusive nation.”

TROPICANA AMAN

CELEBRATES

COMPLETION

OF TRIANA

SHOP-OFFICES

Tropicana celebrated vacant possession (“VP”) for owners at Triana

Shop-Offices in Tropicana Aman, the developer’s largest 863-acre

self-contained township in Kota Kemuning. Enriching the commercial

outlook of the development, the 18.4-acre hub features prime visibility

and versatile, open layouts for flexible business arrangements in the new

norm, with VP undertaken for 54% of its double and triple-storey shopoffices.

Joanne Lee, Senior Managing Director of Marketing and Sales,

shared more on the project’s value proposition, as well as Tropicana’s

development DNA across its portfolio.

“As Tropicana’s largest township to date, Tropicana Aman offers

a promising business opportunity for owners and entrepreneurs,

with a projected 30,000-strong population once complete. Triana

Shop-Offices is ideally positioned to cater for this demand as well as

footfall from surrounding areas, featuring easy access to the Shah Alam

Expressway (KESAS), as well as ample pedestrian links.

34

In addition, it accommodates a wide range of commercial arrangements,

including entertainment businesses. Triana Shop-Offices’ design is

driven by Tropicana’s distinctive development DNA, particularly its focus

on connectivity and generous open spaces, as we continue Redefining

the Art of Living in all we do,” she said.

Inviting passersby with wide shop frontages from 24’ to 35’ and built-ups

3,360 sq ft to 6,771 sq ft, Triana Shop-Offices is suitable for a wide range

of businesses, from vibrant new start-ups and co-working operators to

established brands and franchises. Higher ceilings up to 12’ offer room to

grow, while selected units feature double-volume spaces well-suited for

dining and retail tenants.

Triana Shop-Offices benefits from nearby amenities, including medical

facilities such as Columbia Asia Hospital, hypermarkets like Aeon

Big, and banks including Maybank, CIMB, and RHB. Those keen

on joining the growing commercial hub can invest in Triana Shop-Offices by

PROJECT TO FIGHT

HUNGER

Tropicana Foundation, the charity arm of Tropicana collaborated

with Malaysian non-profit organisation The Lost Food Project

(“TLFP”) to channel surplus food to the needy. Together with

its subsidiary, Tropicana Golf & Country Resort and Greenhouse

Farm & Fishery (Tropicana’s agriculture arm), the team cleaned,

wrapped and delivered 300kg of fish to six TLFP charity partners

across Selangor. Jared Ang, Group Executive Director of Tropicana,

elaborated on its ongoing humanitarian mission, in line with its

sustainable development approach across its portfolio.

“Hunger is a growing global concern as supply chain disruptions

affect food prices and availability. Despite this, more than 4,000

tonnes of avoidable food waste are generated in Malaysia each day.

We remain consistent in our efforts to tackle this social issue by

partnering with TLFP, as well as our subsidiary Tropicana Golf &

Country Resort and agriculture arm Greenhouse Farm & Fishery, for

the distribution of surplus fish stock to those in need, in line with

Tropicana’s commitment to Redefining the Art of Caring throughout

its townships and vertical communities,” he said. The donated fish

comprised tilapia stock, a low-calorie food source packed with

protein and nutrients such as vitamin B12 and selenium, which play

an essential role in immune system function. The donated tilapia

were carefully cleaned and vacuum-packed to preserve freshness

prior to distribution.

39

In addition to its collaboration with TLFP, Tropicana Foundation

also donated 180 care packs to the Tan Sri Muhyiddin Charity Golf

Foundation (“TSMCGF”), in conjunction with the Founders Cup

2022 tournament held at the Kota Permai Golf & Country Club.

The care packs included healthy baked goods, cutlery sets, mineral

THE GRAND LAUNCH OF

TROPICANA WINDCITY

On 16 June 2022, Tropicana marked a significant milestone as it

celebrated two momentous achievements for the Group - the

unveiling of Tropicana WindCity in Genting Highlands and the

improved T Privilege loyalty programme. Strategically located

at the mid-hill of this tourist hotspot, Tropicana plans to build

a holistic 596 acres township comprising three masterplans:

Tropicana Grandhill, Tropicana Paradise and Tropicana Avalon,

spread across 112 acres, 308 acres and 176 acres respectively.

Tropicana also unveiled T Privilege, an improved loyalty

programme anchored by the Tropicana 360 mobile app.

Launched in 2011, Tropicana Privilege Card was the first

property loyalty programme introduced by the Group. The

all-improved T Privilege aims to offer more benefits to its

property purchasers as well as the community across the

Group’s ecosystem. Through T Privilege, Tropicana members

how Tropicana has constantly evolved and transformed

For decades, audiences around the world have been captivated by Japanese animation's

distinct style and sense of whimsy, and this holds true for everything from the plot to the

artwork as well as cultural references and ideas featured in the shows. What adds to the

appeal is that the anime narratives and characters are grounded in reality, as are their

problems. And because of the freedom of visual expression, anime producers can make

these stories appear larger than life. The most well-known Japanese animation studio

is Studio Ghibli, which was established in 1985 by Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki.

There’s even a Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Japan, which was launched in October 2001 as

a joint venture between Studio Ghibli and the Tokuma Memorial Cultural Foundation for

Animation, while a Ghibli Park is set to open in November this year in Nagakute. It will

feature attractions based on Studio Ghibli’s movies. Unlike other animation studios, Studio

Ghibli was founded to explore the human pscyhe and offer audiences poetic stories that

would express its complexities.

It has produced more than 20 films many of which opened at the top of the box office

in Japan the year they were released. One of Hayao’s most popular films Spirited Away,

which was released in 2001 earned over ¥30 billion (RM1 billion) at the box office. Film

critics and animators from across the world have also awarded Studio Ghibli’s films with

several awards and critical praise. Spirited Away got the 2003 Academy Award for Best

Animated Feature Film and the Golden Bear prize at the 2002 Berlin International Film

Festival. The studio’s The Wind Rises, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, When Marnie Was

There, and The Red Turtle have also been nominated for the Academy Awards for Best

Animated Feature Film. According to The New York Times, the next project will be Hayao’s

last Studio Ghibli film. The 81-year-old and producer Toshio Suzuki gave little details about

it, but it is said to be based on Genzaburo Yoshino’s 1937 novel, How Do You Live? The

protagonist is a 15-year-old boy in Tokyo whose father just died. He is small for his age and

often gets into trouble.

similar height. The layout of the course includes some dogleg

holes, elevated big greens and strategically-placed lakes. It has a

tough layout and stunning landscape, which will make you want

to come back and play again. Each and every green has intricate

undulations, making it a challenge to putt on them. The 10th

Tropicana’s use of dragonflies as a biocontrol

JULY/AUGUST 2022 NATURE

Nearly a year has passed since the Tramea transmarina dragonfly larvae were released into a

pond at Tropicana Golf & Country Resort ("TGCR") as a natural solution to suppress mosquito

population and impede mosquito larvae growth. A dragonfly’s natural diet includes mosquitoes

and flying insects near ponds. Dragonflies are precise and lethal hunters, catching almost 95% of

their prey. A field survey was undertaken by dragonfly expert Dr Choong Chee Yen to establish

whether or not the endeavour was effective, and the results were encouraging. “We conducted

an observation at the pond on 18 February 2022 (about five months after releasing the larvae)

and we’re pleased to report that the dragonflies are breeding successfully at the pond,” says

the lecturer at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Faculty of Science and Technology.

During the survey, it was discovered that the pond was home to a staggering six different

dragonfly species in addition to the Tramea transmarina (commonly known as Saddlebag

Glider) larvae that were first released into the pond. “This is a good sign since it indicates

that the environment there is healthy,” Choong notes. It also suggests that the initiative has

achieved its goal of providing a new habitat for the dragonflies used in the pilot project, as

well as attracting other dragonfly species to converge at the ponds in TGCR. In addition to the

role that dragonflies play in controlling the mosquito population by feeding on mosquitoes

and their larvae, the project paves the way for the ponds to become an eco-tourism location

suitable for dragonfly observation activities. The project, the first of its kind for a golf course,

exemplifies Tropicana’s efforts to fulfil its commitment as a responsible developer by minimising

the impact on natural ecosystems and biodiversity.

INSTA-WORTHY

At Tropicana Gardens Mall, renowned graffiti artist Kenji Chai

has created murals inspired by a Japanese anime

The next time you visit Tropicana Gardens Mall, be sure to stop by the West Walk area on the ground

floor, outside Starbucks Reserve, to admire the murals there. Kenji Chai, a celebrated graffiti artist

whose masterpieces can be seen in several parts of Malaysia as well as in other countries, is the one

who came up with the bold and bright wall art creations, worthy of being featured on Instagram.

Due to the fact that there is a mural on either side of an almost spiral staircase, these works of art

are incredibly arresting. “Many people take photos here and tag me on their social media accounts,”

says Kenji. He adds that the murals were inspired by a Japanese anime called Spirited Away, which

tells the story of a girl, Chihiro Ogino who, while relocating to a new neighborhood, enters the world

of Kami (spirits of Japanese Shinto folklore). “Between 50 and 60 percent of the murals’ characters

are based on the anime,” explains Kenji. According to him, creating the murals were difficult because

he had to ascend ladders and stand on scaffoldings at various points. “The scaffoldings were not

particularly stable, so I had a difficult time with them. It took me somewhere between 10 and 14 days

to finish the murals”. Among the 40-year-old Sabah native’s other notable works include a 25-storey

mural on the wall of the RED by Sirocco hotel, which got certified by the Malaysia Book of Records as

the tallest mural in the country. Kenji, who has been invited to paint murals in over 20 countries, has

also partnered with brands such as BMW, Puma, Netflix, Vans and of course, Starbucks.

Tropicana Cenang’s Cultural Day

included everything from traditional

games to a batik workshop

Tropicana Cenang in Langkawi recently held a Cultural

Day as part of its efforts to promote traditional arts,

crafts and culture as well as commemorate the Hari

Raya celebrations. The event attracted 30 walk-in

visitors, mainly tourists who were visiting the island. It

was a fun day for everyone as they had the chance to

sample local delights, listen to live gamelan music and

a keroncong band, take part in traditional games and

learn how to make batik. The event, often held during

festive celebrations, is also part of Tropicana’s aim to

strengthen ties with the community. People of all ages

were engrossed in the activities, including children who

were occupied throughout the batik workshop.

Guests were treated

to a gamelan

performance

It is a good idea to teach children about batik at an early

88

age so that they may gain a basic understanding of the

art form and hopefully develop an appreciation for

the traditional fabric. “I have high hopes that the new

generation will be able to contribute to the production

of quality batik. I have no doubt that up-and-coming

designers will incorporate batik into their collections.

In another ten years, I anticipate that people would

wear batik for both work and play,” Kapten Batik

co-founder, Farhan Omar comments. The brand’s other

founder Ekram Faiz, thinks that the market will become

more competitive and that inventive batik production

methods will increase. He notes that it will generate

more employment possibilities for Malaysians. “Batik

is one-of-a-kind because it is made skilfully by hand

rather than machine-made. Despite being produced in

the same batch, each piece of batik is unique. Seeing

the fresh and brilliant colour after a dyeing process is

such a wonderful treat.”

So Shien Yong has always wanted to own a

Tropicana property ever since he was a boy,

and he has his heart set on a lovely corner lot

at Tropicana Golf & Country Resort (“TGCR”) in

that goal, the young man has at least been able

to partner with Tropicana in April this year. “I

remember seeing a corner lot property for sale

at TGCR when I was in high school.

To one day acquire a property there would

be a blessing!” he exclaims, adding that the

opportunity to collaborate with Tropicana

recently was an added advantage and

motivation for him. The founder and director

of Flawless Group Sdn Bhd, which creates

Apple Watch covers under the brand name

Amarald Co., says his company had an event

at the Tropicana Gardens Office Tower where

his clients were invited to collect their Amarald

values are in sync with Tropicana’s. “To us, it’s

the driving force behind the success of our

business.”

Shien Yong got his business idea in June last

After scouting for watchmakers, designers, marketeers

months planning, designing and developing Amarald Co.

prior to its January 2022 launch. “A common reaction

from someone who has seen our products is, ‘Wow, these

are gorgeous’. Not only have we attracted watch lovers

as clients, but we’re also getting a positive response from

individuals wishing to update their wristwear.” What

makes Amarald Co. special is its customers, says Shien

Yong. “Our customers exhibit a distinct personality

trait that we can identify. Each of them has a single

goal in mind: to stand out from the crowd. They are

bold, daring and willing to express themselves in

unconventional ways.” Before recommending an Amarald

more about the customer’s interests, style preferences

and other factors. “Each of our frame is unique to its

owner in terms of material, style, serial code and colour.”

The Rose Gold Silicon Classic is Shien Yong’s personal

favourite. “It suits many different occasions, like business

meetings, social gatherings, or even activities like golfing

complementary product to the Apple Watch, and there

aren’t many other retailers in this area. “Eventually, we

adding that he is looking into expanding his business in

THE

OF

MAKEUP

Whether your skin tone is light, medium or dark, our beauty

professionals share their makeup tips to help you look your best!

FOUNDATION

Narrow down your options to three shades that appear

to be a good fit and apply each shade in the form of

short lines along your jawline. The most suitable shade

should disappear into your skin.

Tip: The ideal way to apply foundation is to blend it in

with your finger pad, then spread it evenly across the

face with a sponge.

CONCEALER

Choose one shade lighter than your natural complexion.

Smooth it outward using light tapping motions with the

pad of your ring finger for a natural finish.

POWDER

Loose powder sets foundation and concealer so that

they last longer. If you can’t find a shade that matches

your skin tone, opt for a translucent one.

Tip: Sprinkle some loose powder under the eyes

before applying eyeshadow so that any eyeshadow

powder that lands there may be easily brushed away.

EYESHADOW

Lighter skin tones can take almost every eyeshadow colour,

while the brown colour family as well as blues, greys and

greens are excellent for medium complexions. Those with

darker skin tones look great with bold eyeshadow colours.

Tip: Blend a dark colour into the crease of your eyes to create the illusion of deep-set eyes.

If you prefer dramatic eyes, use black in the eye creases and along the lash line, and then

shade outward. For seductive peepers, apply a light colour all over the eyelids and then

sweep on a deeper colour into the crease, as well as along the upper and lower lash lines.

From left: June Tan,

Iqa Zamri and Arina Zaidi

EYELINER

Make your eyes look more appealing by lining the top of your lash lines with eyeliner. For

brighter peepers, line the lower rims of your eyes with white eyeliner.

BLUSHER

Blushers in baby pink, light peach and berry-plum hues work well on fair skin. Rosy pinks,

warm peach and mauve colours complement medium skin tones. If you have dark skin, try

blushers in peach, plum, bronze or brick red.

Tip: To define your cheekbones, suck in your cheeks until you see an indentation below

the apples of your cheeks. Apply a dark-coloured blusher or a bronzer and work it down

that indentation.

96

LIPS

Lighter complexions look best with pink-toned lipsticks, shades of mauve complement

medium skin tones, while berry hues look good on dark skin. Still unsure? Get a red lipstick

with blue undertones as it goes well with every skin colour.

working in finance and decided to pursue her interest in beauty. “I put my accountancy

degree to good use for several years, but then something told me I should do what I

enjoy. I’ve been doing makeup and hairstyling for ten years now and I’ve never been

happier”. Her makeup tip? “Always wear mascara as it “opens up” the eyes, and trust

the power of a lipstick, which enhances your overall look. It’s magic in a tube!”.

WORKPLACE

WELLNESS

AWARENESS

Healthy and happy employees are more productive, engaged and

fulfilled in their jobs. Here are 10 workplace wellness strategies

TROPICANA MAGAZINE

YOGA AT WORK

Some companies arrange yoga classes

to keep employees’ minds focused on

the present moment and away from

their problems and anxieties. Even a

few minutes of yoga may invigorate

and prepare one for the day ahead.

SHORT BREAKS

Take breaks throughout the day. Rather

than remaining seated, get up and take

a walk. Leave your workstation even if

it’s just for five minutes to get coffee,

food from the pantry or simply to gaze

out the window.

STAND UP

Avoid sitting down for too long. You

could stand when you’re reading

documents, talking to a colleague or

when using the phone. This will make

your blood flow better and burn more

calories, too.

OUTDOOR MEETINGS

Why not hold meetings outside the

office? After all, a meeting while

walking in nature promotes physical

activity and is a wonderful approach

to stimulate creativity. It’s certainly a

breath of fresh air.

FINANCIAL WELLNESS

Financial stress can affect performance.

Companies could help by organising a

workshop led by an external expert

or someone from the finance team

on issues such as budgeting, debt

reduction and saving strategies.

USEFUL APPS

Some Apps are beneficial to job

performance. Elevate is a game-like

App that provides personalised brain

training. Then there is the Power Nap

App for employees to experience ‘the

power of the power nap’.

STRESS MANAGEMENT

By providing stress management

training, companies may aid their

staff in coping with stress and

building resilience. LinkedIn offers six

courses on themes such as enhancing

resilience and coping with loss.

NEW ENVIRONMENT

With the new normal, organisations

are reconsidering their workplace

design to guarantee the safety of

their employees, including ensuring

social distancing, physical comfort

and safety, and activity-based

working (ABW) environment.

FAMILY CARE

When an employee’s home life is

in disarray, it shows up at work.

Employers could demonstrate their

concern for their employees by

offering benefits such as childcare,

family events and a flexible work

schedule.

EXTENDED HELP

Organisations realise that happy

employees are more productive in

both their personal and professional

lives. So, they help their staff with

non-working needs like connect them

with counsellors to help with finance,

legal or other matters should they

require.

TIME-SAVING

KITCHEN

HACKS

With too much to do and not enough time,

we’ve got you covered at least when it

comes to cooking

100

BREAD AND WATER If your

bread is somewhat stale, simply

pour some water over it and

throw it in the oven to make it

fresh again.

EASY PEEL To easily remove the

skin from a potato, boil it for a

few minutes, then dunk it into a

bowl of ice-cold water. The skin

will slide right off when you peel.

TROPICANA MAGAZINE

QUICK AND EASY Making a

quick stir-fry with minced meat,

vegetables and spices in a wok is

one of the simplest methods to

overcome time constraints. It’s a

filling dish that goes well with rice.

VERSATILE Buy a rotisserie chicken

from the grocery store or deli the next

time you’re in a hurry. The flesh from

the drumsticks, thighs and wings can be

used in salads, sandwiches or fried rice,

while the breast parts can be saved for

another recipe.

STOCK UP Stock up on items you

use frequently. Noodles, pastas,

eggs and other staples can be

stored for a considerable amount

of time. Sauces, purees, and

pastes like ginger and garlic can

also be kept on hand.

FREEZE Prepare and freeze

sandwiches, pan-fried fish, meat and

chicken. You can also freeze stews,

soups and even rendang. Brownies,

cakes and muffins freeze well too. It

simplifies meal prep as all you have to

do is thaw and microwave.

101

KEEP THEM FRESH To keep your

weekly groceries fresh, line the

bottom of your crisper drawer

with paper towels or a thin

cotton/muslin cloth.

SO LONG, SOGGY! Reheating soggy

pizza or roti canai leftovers might

cause them to become dry and

bland. Keep it fresh by placing it in

the microwave with a cup of water

and heating it.

JULY/AUGUST 2022 BEAUTY FOCUS

GOODNESS FROM

THE SEA

Inspired by Scandinavian principles and powered by Ocean

Silk Technology, Sachajuan is the premier name in hair care

104

Its name originates from its founders Sacha Mitic and Juan Rosenlind who combined their names

when they opened their salon in Stockholm, Sweden in 1997. After experimentation with different

brands without finding the desired performance or style, they introduced their first products in

2004. These include shampoos, conditioners, serums and more. The brand’s approach to haircare

is simple - cleanse, condition and add treatments if needed. Sachajuan’s uniqueness lies in its

patented Ocean Silk Technology - a cocktail of proteins and mineral extracts derived from sea

algae. Its products contain extracts from two cold-water algae naturally harvested from the

ocean namely rhodophycea and chondrus crispus. The former is known for strengthening hair,

increasing elasticity and adding moisture to it. It works on the interior of the hair, boosting the

hair’s mineral balance with magnesium, calcium, manganese and zinc, which can get depleted by

daily damage. Chondrus crispus works mainly on the surface of the hair. It has a higher calcium

and zinc content, which helps to increase shine and protect hair from surface damage. Both of

these algae hold great nourishing and normalising properties for the scalp. Suffice to say, it is the

Ocean Silk Technology that makes Sachajuan special.

JULY/AUGUST 2022 BEAUTY SNIPPETS

FOR HEAVENLY

HAIR

Read on to learn how to maintain your crowning glory

1

Wet hair is three times more susceptible

to breaking, so handle it with care. Do

not overly rub wet hair with a towel. Use a

wide-tooth comb to detangle hair but avoid

excessive combing and brushing damp or

wet hair.

2

While blow drying, begin with the

lowest heat setting and gradually

increase heat as needed. Whenever possible,

let your hair dry naturally.

106

3

The best way to maintain healthy hair

and avoid split ends is to get regular

haircuts, preferably once every 10 to 12

weeks.

4

Hair follicles and sebaceous glands

may be stimulated by increasing your

omega-3 fatty acid intake. This will boost

scalp health. Salmon, sardines, flaxseed and

yoghurt are rich in omega-3 fatty acids.

5

Harsh shampoos, treatments and

styling products have the most impact

on hair health. Other factors include stress,

excessive alcohol intake, low-calorie and

crash diets, low thyroid hormone and some

medicines for arthritis, depression, heart

problems and high blood pressure.

Certain animals can provide comfort and assistance to people with disabilities

120

A disability can have an impact on daily life, affecting heart

rate, communication, and inducing sadness. A cuddly pet,

such as a cat or dog, can help to mitigate these adverse

consequences. Since depression is one of the most common

issues that the disabled face, they can get the motivation and

sense of responsibility they need to make a positive change

if they have a pet they need to take care of. When battling

depression, caring for others can come more readily than

caring for oneself. As a result, an animal’s natural disposition

to play can have positive, long-term effects on a person’s

mental health.

Apart from cats and dogs, gerbils, hamsters and dwarf rabbits

make excellent pets for persons suffering from depression.

Most rodent pets provide intelligent and entertaining

interactions. For the wheelchair-bound, service dogs make

perfect companions as they are trained to open doors,

handle light switches, and pick up or recover objects from the

ground or from distant spots. Greyhound, German shepherd,

labrador retriever and golden retriever are among the

best dog breeds for wheelchair users. Other types of

dogs, like pugs, are excellent emotional support animals.

Dachshunds make great therapy animals because they are

friendly, calm, and gentle. Cats, on the other hand, are

adept at detecting people’s moods and depression. When

they sense your sadness, they may come close to you as

if to console you.
