Unlock the secrets of essential home hacks for
an impeccable home
Silence a creaking floor
Sprinkle baby powder or baking soda on the floorboard that is creaky. Then work the
powder into the seams. If you do this, the wood will be lubricated, and the floorboards
won’t rub together and creak.
Removing a stuck key
Spray some lubricant into the lock. Make sure the stream goes above the stuck key.
Then, gently jiggle the key up and down to release it from the hole. Do not move the
key from side to side as you might break it.
60
Patching a hole in the wall
Using a spackle knife, fill up the hole with a lightweight putty. Trim away any excess
putty using a scraper. Lastly, sand the spot down until smooth and then repaint the
affected area.
Revive your shower drain’s flow
If water takes a long time to drain away, something is probably stuck in the shower
drain. Get a wire and bend the end to make a hook. Pull out the clog, which is most
likely shed hair, then use a plunger to get the water to flow freely again.
Banish bad odour from the dishwasher or washing machine
Use white vinegar on an empty hot wash/cycle to clean and refresh major appliances.
Then add baking soda and lemon that work as a natural disinfectant and leave a fresh
aroma.

Say goodbye to smelly trash bins
Even garbage bins lined with bags can start to smell after some
time. Pour vinegar on a slice of bread and leave it in the garbage
bin overnight. Remove it the next day before putting in a new
garbage bag and observe what a difference it makes.
Effortless microwave cleaning
Achieve spotless results by microwaving a bowl of water and
vinegar for seven minutes. Let the steam work its magic to
loosen debris and simplify the cleaning process.
Fixing squeaky doors or cabinets
When your doors or cabinets are squeaky, use cooking spray to
fix them right away. Spritz a little on the hinges, and they’ll be
squeaky-free in no time at all.
Cleaning a shower head
Soak your shower head in vinegar overnight to remove mineral
deposits and other filth.
Tea bags to the rescue
The same tannins that cause tea to stain cups can also be used
to clean dishes. Before you start cleaning greasy dishes, fill up
the sink with hot water and a dozen old tea bags. Tea tannins’
astringent qualities help cut grease.

SUCCESS
Tan Kai Young’s sweet dreams have turned into a business
reality, bringing llaollao into Malaysia and introducing other
cool F&B options
66
Despite never intending to dabble in the food and
beverage business, Tan Kai Young found himself
drawn to it after developing a craving for frozen
yogurt, which he indulged in every day after work.
“While working in Singapore, my wife and I
would stand in line at the llaollao frozen yogurt
place to satisfy our appetite after work. When I
returned to Malaysia later, I realised there was no
real competition in the country’s frozen yogurt
market, which led me to introduce the brand in
my homeland,” says Tan, who used to work in the
banking sector in Singapore.
llaollao, a franchise brand from Spain, and the
leading natural frozen yoghurt brand in Europe
and Asia, stands out for its strong selling points.
It offers a healthy option, as its yogurt is freshly
made on-site every hour, and only fresh fruits
like dragon fruit, kiwi, mango and more, are used

And, according to Tan, as soon as August, the Group will
be bringing in a popular beverage brand from Thailand,
which has a long and reputable history.
“We will also be creating our very own beverage brand
this year. So, there will be two beverage brands that we

Launched in Malaysia in 2015, llaollao has swiftly gained
massive popularity and recently marked a milestone
by opening its 100th outlet in a mall in Kuala Lumpur’s
Golden Triangle area.

What is the key to the company’s success? According to
Tan, “Understanding the market’s desires is crucial. By
identifying their preferences and catering to their needs,
you will earn their loyalty. Prior to our entry, traditional
desserts dominated the market. However, we successfully
transformed people’s taste preferences by offering
something healthier yet irresistibly tasty.”
With 100 outlets and an aim of reaching 135 by year-end,
Tan confidently asserts the Group’s ability to continue this
trajectory.

NAILING IT
Nails are more than just a way to accessorise your
hands. They are also a reflection of your overall
health and wellness
TROPICANA MAGAZINE
There are a number of things you can do to keep your
nails healthy and looking great. First, it is important
to eat a balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits,
vegetables, and whole grains. These foods provide your
body with the nutrients it needs to maintain healthy
nails. Second, it is important to avoid biting your nails.
This can damage the nail bed and make it difficult for
your nails to grow properly. Finally, it is important to
use a good quality nail polish remover that is free of
harsh chemicals. These chemicals can dry out your nails
and make them more susceptible to damage.
If you are concerned about the health of your nails, it
is important to see a doctor or dermatologist. They can
help you identify any underlying health conditions that
may be affecting your nails. They can also recommend
treatment options to help you improve the health of
your nails.
In addition to their importance to overall health, nails
can also be a way to express your personal style. There
are a variety of nail art designs that you can choose
from, from the simple and classy French tips to more
elaborate designs such as ombre, negative space nails
that leaves some of the natural nail exposed, to French
glass nails, a type of nail art that is inspired by the
classic French manicure but with a modern twist. Other
trends include velvet nails, chrome nails and the melted
metal nail style.
Here are some additional tips for maintaining healthy
nails:
• Keep your nails trimmed and filed smooth
• Avoid using harsh chemicals on your nails, such as
nail polish remover and nail polish
• Use a base coat and top coat when applying nail
polish. This will help protect your nails from damage
• Get regular manicures and pedicures
• Eat a healthy diet that includes plenty of fruits,
vegetables, and whole grains
• Take a multivitamin that contains biotin. Biotin is a
vitamin that is essential for healthy hair, skin, and nails
No matter what your style, there is a nail art design that
is perfect for you. Experiment with different designs
until you find one that you love!

IF Wedding Fashion Izmir will be hosting its 17th edition this
year, spanning four days from November 21, 2023 in Izmir,
Turkey’s fashion and wedding industry capital.
Last year’s event witnessed the gathering of 223 exhibitors
from Turkey and 13 other countries, representing various
product categories including evening wear, wedding dresses
and groom’s attire. The fair attracted an impressive total of
25,027 professional visitors from 98 countries, solidifying its
reputation as one of the world’s largest fashion fairs.

Every woman wants to look her best on her wedding day, and
while bridalwear varies from country to country, all wedding
outfits are undeniably beautiful.
Exuding sensuality and allure, Zuhair Murad’s ethereal
organza dress from his Bridal Spring/Summer 2024 collection
is adorned with cascading ruffles that gracefully frame the
neckline, enticingly revealing the shoulders. As for the sublime
skirt, it is a showcase of finesse in every fold.
Other designs include those that enhance the feminine form
where structured corsets embrace the body, accentuating its
graceful curves with a mermaid silhouette.
Then there are dresses by Zuhair that come with dramatic
voluminous sleeves, plunging necklines and seductive open
backs, which harmoniously blend together, resulting in an
enchanting allure.
Wedding dresses previously showcased at the event feature a
variety of designs that are simply mesmerising.
From opulently embroidered gowns exuding luxury to exquisite
lace creations, embellished with feathers or sparkling crystals
for an added touch of glamour, the options are endless. For
those seeking understated elegance, there are also classic and
simple designs available.
In addition to the stunning wedding dresses, a variety of tiara
designs complement the bridal attire, ranging from delicate
and minimalist styles to elaborate and intricately-crafted
pieces that are sure to turn heads.
When it comes to traditional wedding attire, they often captivate
with their extravagance and eye-catching appeal. Take, for instance,
the Indian bride’s lehenga, a three-piece ensemble consisting of
a magnificent ankle-length skirt called the lehenga, a form-fitting
blouse known as the choli and a draping scarf known as the dupatta.
The Lebanese designer’s collection tantalises with lovely shades
of white and vanilla, epitomising the essence of love and romance.
For a myriad of wedding outfits, the ultimate destination is
IF Wedding Fashion Izmir in Turkey. Featuring fashion shows
Lehengas typically come in striking colours and are accented
with fine gold designs crafted with gleaming gold thread,
further enhanced with the sparkle of crystals. To complete the
ensemble, the bride is elegantly draped with an extravagant
head scarf and decked out with a generous amount of jewellery.
TROPICANA MAGAZINE
In a traditional Mongolian wedding, the joyful couple adorn
themselves in a unique attire called Deel. This robe-like garment,
made from fabrics such as cotton, silk, wool or brocade, holds
significance in both rural and urban settings. While herders often
wear the Deel in rural areas, it is primarily reserved for elderly
individuals in major towns.
The distinctive Deel holds a prominent place in special
occasions and ceremonies, including weddings, and has
been an integral part of nomadic tribes in Central Asia for
centuries. Its patterned designs are shared among various
ethnic groups in Central Asia, albeit with variations special
to each group.
In contrast to our familiar wedding attire, Japanese wedding
customs diverge in a significant way. However, one common
aspect persists - the bride’s kimono is always white, to signify
purity and maidenhood. Occasionally, a touch of colour
adorns the white kimono, with red and gold hues, which
symbolise luck. The groom also wears a kimono, usually in
black.
Red and gold are often chosen as the preferred colours by
Chinese couples getting married. The former signifies love,
success, happiness, prosperity, luck, fertility, honour and loyalty,
while the latter symbolises wealth.
In South Korea, traditional bridal outfits continue to be cherished
even though modern wedding attire have gained popularity.
Although some couples opt for a modern ceremony devoid of
traditional outfits and rituals, elements of tradition still find their
way into the celebration.
The traditional wedding outfit for the bride, groom and their
respective parties in South Korea is known as Hanbok. This graceful
ensemble consists of a long, colourful jacket decorated with intricate
handmade embroidery and features long sleeves. The bride pairs the
Hanbok with a wrapped skirt, which creates a look that is refined.
Whether embracing modern trends or observing timeless
traditions, bridalwear holds special meaning as it encapsulates
the essence of a bride’s most cherished day

TGCR’s resident horticulturist Mohd Suriga Md Sachari
says caring for a garden is like caring for a partner
JULY/AUGUST 2023 NATURE
104
With a few essential tips and tricks, you can cultivate a thriving
garden that yields fresh produce, vibrant flowers, and a sense
of accomplishment. Tropicana Golf & Country Resort’s resident
horticulturist Mohd Suriga Md Sachari shares some tips to make
your garden lush and beautiful.
Home gardening tips:
Genting Highlands
showcases 1. Give it nature’s time best
Caring for nature, whether a landscape or a home garden,
is like caring for a partner. It takes time and patience. If you
don’t have the time to commit, it’s better not to take it up.
2. Set a schedule and stick to it
This includes watering, trimming, fertilising and cleaning.
3. Get to know your garden
According to Mohd Suriga, plants and trees have “souls”.
Some are independent and hardy, while others require more
care. Adapt your habits to their needs.
5. Avoid the bedroom
Plants stop photosynthesising during the night and their net
oxygen consumption increases.
6. Edibles
Those with a garden plot can opt for edibles such as pandan,
lemongrass, calamansi and curry plants.
7. Be practical, not trendy
While organic fertilisers are trendy, they require lots of space and
time to produce at home. Store-bought fertilisers such as wood
vinegar are more practical and usually come in one-litre bottles.
8. Macronutrients
For fertilisers, most plants need the “NPK” macronutrients:
nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. These are sold in
different ratios, such as 8-8-8, 15-15-15 or 12-12-17, in nurseries
and supermarkets. Do check on suitable amounts and
frequencies before use.
4. Natural air purifier
For indoor gardens, plants that purify air are ideal. Dracaena
(“dragon’s tree”) and sansevieria (“snake plant”) are popular
and common choices in Malaysia.
9. Say no to dead leaves
Avoid compacting dead leaves around indoor plants as a
fertiliser. The decomposition process is exothermic and can
impact growing temperature, while attracting germs.
TROPICANA MAGAZINE
Clockwise from left:
Sansevieria works
well indoors; airpurifying
plants are
popular for home
gardeners; caring for
a home garden takes
time and patience
10. Different plants, different needs
Flowering plants need more potassium (e.g. 12:12:17),
while foliage plants without flowers do best with
equal ratios (e.g. 8:8:8).
11. Affordable options
Fragrant lemongrass and wood vinegar sprays can be
used as affordable home pest repellents.
