DR. TYLER
ARMSTRONG
SIOUX CENTER
Owner and doctor of chiropractic at
Sioux Center Chiropractic
Age: 37
Family: Wife, Tiffany; children, TJ, Henley,
Oakley.
Education: Bachelor of science from
Morningside College in Sioux City;
doctor of chiropractic from Cleveland
Chiropractic College.
Experience: Began at Sioux Center
Chiropractic in 2014.
What are some of your
accomplishments? Since purchasing the
practice in 2019, we’ve doubled our staff
and expanded our building footprint from
1,500 to 3,500 square feet, allowing us
to greatly enhance the services we offer.
In 2024, we launched Move Functional
Fitness, a sister company designed to
bridge the gap between rehab and longterm
functional health. Beyond growth,
my greatest accomplishment is building
a team and a space where people can
take control of their health, overcome
challenges, and achieve lasting wellness.
What are you passionate about? I am
deeply passionate about helping people
achieve their health and wellness goals
by utilizing the many powerful techniques
and tools I am privileged to work with as
a chiropractor. There is nothing more
rewarding than witnessing a patient’s
transformation — seeing someone walk
through our doors burdened by pain
and discouragement, and then, over the
course of care, regain confidence in their
body and their ability to move, heal, and
thrive. I believe that true wellness extends
beyond pain relief; it’s about restoring
function, resilience, and the belief that a
healthier, stronger life is possible.
What goals do you have in your work
world? My goals are twofold: to continually
grow as a clinician, striving each day to
be the best chiropractor I can be, and
to lead and develop our incredible team
so that each member reaches their
full potential. By fostering a culture of
growth, excellence, and collaboration,
we can ensure that every patient who
walks through our doors receives the
highest quality of care and an exceptional
experience. My ultimate goal is not only
to transform lives through chiropractic
care but also to empower my team to do
the same, creating a lasting impact on our
community’s health and well-being.
What are your goals outside of work?
Outside of work, my biggest goal is to
keep growing as a leader in my family —
always striving to be a better husband,
father, son, brother, friend and Christian.
Life moves fast, and I want to be intentional
about showing up for the people who
matter most, being present, and leading
by example. I also have a lifelong goal of
improving my golf game — because let’s
be honest, there’s always room for a better
handicap! Golf is one of those things that
keeps me humble, teaches patience, and
gives me an excuse to spend time with
great friends while chasing that perfect
round.
Share an experience that led you
to where you are today. I grew up
surrounded by a passion for health.
My father, a chiropractor, and his best
friend — also a chiropractor and mentor
— showed me the incredible impact our
profession can have on people’s lives. My
mother, with her background in fitness
and nutrition, reinforced the importance of
movement and proactive wellness. Seeing
both perspectives shaped my approach to
health today. Personally, chiropractic care
was a game-changer during my athletic
career, helping me recover from injuries
and perform at my best. Experiencing its
benefits firsthand solidified my decision to
follow this path, and today, I’m grateful to
continue helping others move, heal, and
thrive.
What advice would you give to other
young professionals? Ego is the enemy.
Leave it at the door and stay hungry to
learn. Surround yourself with leaders and
mentors in your field — listen to their
wisdom, learn from their successes and
mistakes, and never assume you have it
all figured out. Growth comes from being
coachable, staying humble, and showing
up every day ready to give your best. The
most successful professionals aren’t the
ones who think they know everything —
they’re the ones who never stop learning.
What would you like to see other
leaders in N’West Iowa address?
Many communities have done a great
job planning for the future, and it’s
essential to continue that momentum
to keep our region thriving. Long-term
success doesn’t happen by chance — it
requires forward-thinking leadership,
collaboration and strategic investment in
our communities. By working together and
making intentional decisions today, we can
ensure that future generations have the
same opportunities to live, work, and grow
in this region for decades to come.
What’s your go-to activity in N’West
Iowa in the evenings or over the
weekend? You can usually find me at a ball
field or court, either coaching or cheering
on our kids. I also love taking advantage of
the great amenities in the area, whether it’s
enjoying Siouxnami Water Park, playing a
round at The Ridge Golf Club or spending
time at the Iowa Great Lakes. There’s no
shortage of fun things to do, and I love
making the most of what northwest Iowa
has to offer with family and friends.
What do you like to do in your free
time? I love coaching my kids’ sports,
golfing and spending time with my wife
— whether it’s a date night or traveling
together. And when I’m not doing that, I’m
probably watching the Chiefs or Yankees!
Name one book, movie, show or
podcast you love? “Atomic Habits” by
James Clear and “The Obstacle is she
Way” by Ryan Holiday.
Share a fun fact about yourself. I’m
an ’80s and ’90s movie connoisseur
— because that era gave us all the real
classics (and a few gloriously bad ones too).
What is one word that describes you?
Driven.
SATURDAY, MARCH 8, 2025 THE N’WEST IOWA REVIEW/SHELDON, IA E4
ERIN ANDERSON SHELDON
Dentist and owner of Sheldon Family Dental Clinic
Age: 38
Family: Fiancé, Dominic; children, Kellen,
9; Evie, 6; Brea, 4.
Education: Bachelor of science with a
major in biology with minors in chemistry
and Spanish from Dana College in Blair,
NE, in 2009; doctor of dental surgery from
University of Nebraska Medical Center
College of Dentistry in 2013.
Experience: Dentist at Dental Wellness
Center in Norfolk, NE, 2013-16.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about my children
understanding the importance of being
healthy — physically, mentally and
emotionally. I want them to understand
that there is only one “you” in this world,
and they should give the world their best.
At work, I am passionate about educating
patients in the importance of oral care.
I enjoy being part of a person’s path to
finding self-confidence through a healthy
smile.
What goals do you have in your work
world? Continue to educate myself and
my staff to expand services and treatment
options the office can offer patients.
Continued growth and expansion for the
business.
What are your goals outside of work?
Running another marathon. Traveling to
Africa.
Share an experience that led you
to where you are today. When I was in
college, I attended a summer program
geared toward premedical and predental
students. I was on the premed side when I
started the program. I was unsure if that’s
what I really wanted to do with my life, so
I went with the predental students one
day to the dental school. We were able
to use the handpiece and instruments
on the manikin and get some hands-on
experience. I remember smiling the entire
time and falling in love with dentistry at that
moment. After that day, I switched from
premed to predental, and I have always
been thankful that I did. I love the career
path I chose.
What advice would you give to other
young professionals? What you get out
of life is correlated to what you put in, so
be committed to learning, growing and
being open to new opportunities. Be
confident in yourself and in what you want
to accomplish.
What’s your go-to activity in N’West
Iowa in the evenings or over the
weekend? Supporting Orab athletics.
Enjoying Sheldon’s parks and trails.
Spending summer weekends at our
camper in the Okoboji area.
What do you like to do in your free
time? Running. Being outdoors with my
family. Going on vacation or weekend
getaways. Cheering on the Huskers.
Name one book, movie, show or
podcast you love? “House Hunters.”
Share a fun fact about yourself. I played
basketball in college.
What is one word that describes you?
Passionate.

CORY GOTTO SIOUX CENTER
Senior banking officer at Peoples Bank in Sioux Center
Age: 37
Family: Wife, Kayla; son, Callum, 11; daughter,
Haven, 8; dog, Brisket, 6 months.
Education: Bachelor in economics from South
Dakota State University in Brookings in 2010 and
Graduate School of Banking at Colorado in 2022.
Experience: First Bank & Trust, Brookings, SD,
2008-11 and Peoples Bank, 2011-current.
What are some of your accomplishments?
Graduate School of Banking at Colorado. Sioux
Center Chamber Go-Getter Award. Co-Creator
of Leadership Sioux Center. Iowa Bankers
Association Leaders in Advocacy participant.
What are you passionate about? I would say
I’m passionate about helping others. How I go
about that has changed over the years; I used
to work more directly with customers at the
bank, whereas now I spend more time working
with employees who work with customers. I
think there’s just something really fulfilling about
knowing you helped someone achieve a goal
or accomplish something they didn’t think
they could do. For me personally, helping and
developing others is something I feel we’re called
to do from a biblical perspective as well.
What goals do you have in your work world?
A lot of my time spent at the bank is working
with other people to solve problems, implement
products or create new opportunities. We want
to continue to be a place where people can
develop their skills, and where they know their
work matters and their efforts make a difference.
We want to continue to attract customers and
help them grow and achieve their goals. We want
to invest in our communities to see them flourish.
Most of my goals at work revolve around helping
the bank achieve its overall goals. Recently I’ve
also enjoyed getting involved in advocating for
community banks at both the state and federal
levels.
What are your goals outside of work? Right
now, a lot of my focus is on trying to make the
most of the time we have with our kids before
they grow up. They are only 11 and 8 right now,
but everyone I talk to says to make the most
of it because time flies. So, a lot of my personal
goals start by asking “Where should we take
the kids next?” We hit the five national parks in
Utah last summer and had a blast. One personal
goal I’ve been looking at is I’d love to give the
Siouxperman sprint triathlon a try. Other than
that, I like to help out at church, volunteer for my
community and serve on a few nonprofit boards.
Share an experience that led you to where
you are today. I had the opportunity to help
plan the Ignite event we held in Sioux Center
in 2023. It was fun to bring Tim Tebow and
Craig Groeschel to a small town like ours. It
opened my eyes to how much work goes into
planning events like that. Fundraising, organizing
volunteers, logistics and everything in between
— so many things have to happen for it go well,
and it takes an entire team to get it done. But
hearing the stories of how the event impacts
people makes all of it worth it. I learned a lot not
just from the content and speakers that day, but
from all the behind-the-scenes planning as well.
What advice would you give to other young
professionals? I’d encourage other young
professionals to keep their eyes open to things
they could “build” to improve the quality of life
wherever they’re at. Building can mean the
construction of actual facilities, but it could
also mean building a new program or a new
experience for people to enjoy. Find or think of
something fun or exciting that doesn’t currently
exist where you’re at, then get a few people
together with gifts that complement yours and
build something new!
What would you like to see other leaders in
N’West Iowa address? Our corner of the state
has figured out how to attract people and grow,
which is really rare for rural counties in Iowa. I
think we need to continue to look for ways to
attract people of all ages to our communities
and tell the story about the quality of life in rural
Northwest Iowa. We’ve been blessed with growth
in northwest Iowa, but we need to continue to be
creative and find ways to keep it going.
What’s your go-to activity in N’West Iowa
in the evenings or over the weekend? I spend
a lot of time coaching or watching our kids’
activities, so it’s common to see me in a gym
or on a ball field on nights and weekends. I like
to golf at The Ridge or walk/bike on the trails in
Sioux Center.
What do you like to do in your free time? I like
to play golf during the summer. I like to smoke
meat and grill on our flat top griddle. I enjoy
reading when I have time. I love to spend time
with family and friends and really enjoy traveling
and seeing new places.
Name one book, movie, show or podcast you
love? I really enjoy Craig Groeschel’s monthly
leadership podcast, as well as Patrick Lencioni’s
weekly podcast. Lately, I’ve been digging into
World War II, so I just finished a documentary on
Winston Churchill and read a couple of historical
fiction books that were set during World War II
that were really good.
Share a fun fact about yourself. I do a little
bit of farming on the side with my father-in-law
and my brother-in-law. I didn’t grow up around
farming, but I’ve learned to appreciate the
role farming plays in our area. It’s been really
rewarding to be able to learn more about farming
and to experience it first hand.
What is one word that describes you?
Engaged.

MATT DOLPHIN HARTLEY
Power and automation engineer at Wells Enterprises in Le Mars
Age: 40
Family: Wife, Brittany;
son, Tayten, 9; daughter,
Alleigh, 11.
Education: Associate
of applied science in
industrial automation and
control from Northwest
Iowa Community College in
Sheldon.
Experience: Metal
fabricator for Raveling
Inc. in Melvin and furniture
builder for Stylecraft in
Milford.
What are some of your
accomplishments? I have
automated many machines
and systems in my work
life, and it is always cool to
see something you have
worked on for months
actually function.
What are you
passionate about? I have
been a longtime board
member of the Hartley
Community Daycare
Center. The board along
with our director Kaity
Pedley are currently
working on a build for a
new daycare that should
break ground this spring. It
has been a longtime need
as the current building is
not adequate to serve the
needs of the community
for size, but it is also old
and costly to maintain.
What goals do you
have in your work world?
I am currently finishing up
an ammonia detection
and safety system in our
Henderson, NV, facility.
After that I am moving to
develop the raw ingredient
batching system for our
mix department in our
Dunkirk, NY, facility which
will start its first new
production line later this
year.
What are your goals
outside of work? Lately,
my time has been
consumed with rental
properties. Together
with my wife, we own
an apartment building
in downtown Hartley
and a few houses. We
just finished a remodel
on one and are working
on finishing another. I
am hoping with these
wrapping up to spend
more time traveling with my
family this summer.
Share an experience
that led you to where you
are today. I was hit by a
car when I was 7. It has led
to many back surgeries
and a life of chronic pain
but has helped give me
perspective on what is
important to give my
energy to.
What advice would
you give to other young
professionals? Work on
solutions, don’t focus on
problems. Anybody can
point out what is wrong but
finding the right way to fix
the problem is key. People
would much rather hear
how you are going to fix
an issue than listen to you
complain about it.
What would you like
to see other leaders in
N’West Iowa address?
There is a very real problem
in most small towns in Iowa
of shrinking population. I
think we all have to do a
better idea of attracting
business and individuals
to stay in the area. I don’t
have the answers on how
to best do that but think
it needs some real focus
from lawmakers and other
leaders in the community.
What’s your go-to
activity in N’West Iowa in
the evenings or over the
weekend? As a dad of two
young kids, my nights and
weekends are spent at a
soccer game, wrestling
practice, baseball in the
summers. My wife is the
dance coach in Hartley
also so being the “Dance
Dad” usually has its duties
as well.
What do you like to do in
your free time? Spending
time with family, fixing
things, building things. I am
very interested in physics
and like to learn about the
universe and how it works.
Name one book, movie,
show or podcast you
love? “On the Shoulders
of Giants” by Stephen
Hawking.
Share a fun fact about
yourself. I lived in Dunkirk,
NY, for a year starting
in March 2020 during
the height of COVID to
help integrate the newly
acquired production facility
there for Wells.
What is one word that
describes you? Tall.

SAMUEL FOPMA SIOUX CENTER | Director of design services at Interstates in Sioux Center
Age: 35
Family: Wife, Megan; children, Simon, 9;
Madelyn; 6 (close to 7); Lucas and Levi, 2½
year-old twins.
Education: Graduated with an
engineering degree from Dordt College in
Sioux Center in 2011.
Experience: Worked for some general
contractors back near Pella for a couple
summers. Started internship at Interstates
in 2009 and have been here since.
What are some of your accomplishments?
Have delivered a number of large
projects as an electrical engineer including
a production brewery, multiple flour mill
projects (Florida, Puerto Rico, Colorado,
Pennsylvania, Minnesota), sugar beet
facility, and soybean oilseed processing
facility. Earned my professional engineers
license in 2016 and am now licensed in
more than 10 states. Member of NEC
Codemaking panel and contribute articles
and presentations periodically in the
industry.
What are you passionate about?
Technical excellence — providing quality
technical advice to clients and colleagues;
practicality — approaching technical
design with a grounding in constructability
and maintainability; integrity — living
my core values all the time, I am who
I am; generosity — giving of my time,
knowledge, and money to others.
What goals do you have in your work
world? Lifelong learning — continue
developing myself and my skills as an
engineer and leader; developing others —
coaching and supporting others in their
growth and development; client service —
working hard to deliver well and with high
quality in our work.
What are your goals outside of
work? Our Fopma family goals are:
Faith formation — keeping Christ at the
center of our family; low tech — not being
absorbed in screens, especially as our kids
are young; relationships — investing time
to build relationships within our family and
with others; outside time — prioritizing
time in the great outdoors and enjoying
creation; lifelong learning — pursuing
opportunities to stretch, grow, and learn.
Share an experience that led you to
where you are today. Pretty significant
life changes in 2021-22 between being
diagnosed as a Type 1 diabetic (late life
onset) and the birth of our twins. Was
a challenging period where a lot of the
things I did and derived value from weren’t
going to be possible anymore. Was an
opportunity to reset and refocus on my
values and how they worked both at home
and at work.
What advice would you give to other
young professionals? Grit (Perseverance)
is an underrated skill — the willingness
to tackle tough things and find a way
is an asset to your career. Also having
articulated values (write them down) and
setting appropriate work-life boundaries
with those values in mind can help
navigate the challenges of how best to
spend your valuable time.
What would you like to see other
leaders in N’West Iowa address? I think
we all have the responsibility to provide
opportunities for people within our
communities by operating organizations

Sibley is investing in the future.
A place where home, business, and opportunity come together.
that care for the individual while pursuing

Regional Health Center for 15 years. While working
for ORHC I have been able to help other area
hospitals with ultrasound coverage. For 11 years, I
also helped Sanford Worthington Medical Center
with ultrasound call coverage (2009-20).
What are some of your accomplishments? After
radiology school at NCC, I passed my radiology
boards. After completing the ultrasound program
at UNMC, I completed the physics, abdomen, OB/
GYN and neurosonography boards. While working
at ORHC, I studied and passed breast ultrasound,
vascular ultrasound and computed tomography
(CT) boards. I was also a Service Excellence Adviser
(SEA) at ORHC. I was in a group with two others
teaching various workshops. I am now actively
on the Service Excellence Committee (SEC) as
the treasurer. The SEC works to ensure high
quality patient experience and fosters employee
engagement.
What are you passionate about? I knew after
college I always wanted to come back to my
hometown. I am passionate about helping and
taking care of the people in my community. This
gives me a feeling of satisfaction.
What goals do you have in your work world? To
perform quality care to all my patients.
What are your goals outside of work? To
continue to be active in my community. I also want
to be the best mom I can be to our two boys.
Share an experience that led you to where
you are today. When I graduated from Sibley-
Ocheyedan High School in 2006 I planned on
attending South Dakota State University and
studying education and being on their equestrian
team. When the promised scholarship was not
received, I needed to reevaluate my career plans.
My mom, Lorrie Reed, who has worked at Osceola
Regional Health Center in the business office for
39 years, pushed me to shadow the radiology
department. While shadowing I thought this was
something that interested me. I was able to start
the radiology program at NCC that coming fall after
high school graduation. All things happen for a
reason, and I am so thankful for pursing the medical
field.
What advice would you give to other young
professionals? I advise high school students to
take advantage of the school to career program
that the Sibley- Ocheyedan High School has
set up with local businesses. Osceola Regional
Health Center participates in this program, and it
is beneficial for the students to see all the different
departments in the hospital to see what interests
them.
What would you like to see other leaders in
N’West Iowa address? Strive to help other in the
community and be more community minded.
What’s your go-to activity in N’West Iowa in the
evenings or over the weekend? I enjoy spending
time with my family! We enjoy watching our boys
participate in sporting events. My husband and I
both teach Sunday School. I also help with Awana
on Wednesday nights at church.
What do you like to do in your free time? I enjoy
riding and showing Pony of the Americas (POAs). As
a mom now, I get the enjoyment watching both of
our boys ride and show their ponies in the state and
national POA shows.
Name one book, movie, show or podcast you
love? I really like listening to audiobooks! Frieda
McFadden and Colleen Hoover are my go-to
authors right now!
Share a fun fact about yourself. I have a love for
horses and have ever since I can remember. My
parents purchased a pony for me before I was even

CASSIE ISEMINGER AKRON
Production manager at Sekisui Aerospace in Orange City
Age: 39
Family: Husband, Joel; sons, Cooper, 15;
Judd, 10.
Education: Diploma from Akron-
Westfield High School in Akron.
Experience: Supply chain analyst at
Sekisui Aerospace and production planner
at Sabre Industries.
What are some of your accomplish -
ments? As a production manager, I have
the largest direct span of control of the
organization (around 45-50 direct reports).
I manage scheduling, layup, tooling,
compression and autoclave areas. I have
successfully scheduled and managed
the labor in each of the areas to meet and
exceed revenue and profit goals month
after month. I am also a critical technical
expert for our ERP system.
What are you passionate about? I
am passionate about having my team
be successful and helping them achieve
their goals. When production can get be
chaotic at times, I like to go into those
areas and help get thing organized with
clear direction of what goals need to be
met daily, weekly and monthly getting the
flow of production back on track.
What goals do you have in your
work world? My goal in my professional
career is to be an operations manager
and oversee the entire production
organization.
What are your goals outside of work?
Raise respectful, caring and humble sons
who grow up to be loving husbands and
are hardworking and take care of their
families.
Share an experience that led you to
where you are today. What led me to the
position I am in today is having a manager
that believed in me and saw that I could
be a good leader. Having that manager
show his confidence in me gave me the
confidence to pursue my path down
leadership.
What advice would you give to other
young professionals? Don’t be afraid to
start at an entry level position and work
your way up to a management level. You
will learn the processes along the way and
be more knowledgeable with your work
experience.
What would you like to see other
leaders in N’West Iowa address? I
think the leaders in northwest Iowa have
their best intentions when it comes to
certain issues. I think to always have
an open communication line with your
employees and to have a positive work
environment as well as a positive culture in
their business leaders will continue to be
successful.
What’s your go-to activity in
N’West Iowa in the evenings or over

ASHLEY HOOGLAND HOSPERS
Associate veterinarian at Orange City Family Animal Care
Age: 36
Family: Husband, Cory
Hoogland; children, Jaci, 7; Riley,
6; Brynnlee, 5; Kenzie, 4; Colby,
2½; Zayleigh, 1½.
Education: Bachelor of science
degree in animal science from
Iowa State University in Ames
in 2010; doctorate of veterinary
medicine from Iowa State
University College of Veterinary
Medicine in 2014.
Experience: Certified nurse’s
aide 2003-15 and mixed animal
practitioner at Sibley Veterinary
Clinic 2014-25.
What are some of your
accomplishments? I am proud
to represent Sioux City Animal
Adoption and Rescue Center
as one of the veterinarians who
volunteers my time to help spay
and neuter dogs and cats, so
they are eligible for adoption
faster. I also administer rabies
vaccines when they are of
age and after they’ve been
impounded for the required
amount of time. Since I started
volunteering my time in 2019, I
have spayed and neutered over
1,000 cats and over 150 dogs.
What are you passionate
about? I am most passionate
about surgeries and end-of-life
care in small animal medicine. I
thrive in the surgical suite, with
routine surgeries including
spays and neuters to help
prevent unwanted pregnancies
and infections, but also with
the unexpected surgeries
including foreign body removals,
splenectomies, and amputations.
I also enjoy cosmetic surgeries
such as stenotic nares and
elongated soft palates to help
the brachycephalic breeds, or
squished nose breeds, breathe
easier. End-of-life care is also
very important to me because
we are fortunate in veterinary
medicine to help our pets cross
the rainbow bridge without them
suffering. It’s never an easy
decision but sometimes, it only
decision when a pet is suffering,
and medicine is no longer able to
provide a good quality of life. The
fact that I can relate to anyone
and everyone that ever has to
go through this process enables
me to make this as peaceful of
a process as possible. Most of
the time, lots of tears are shed
between owners and even me.
But I am thankful I can help ease a
pet’s suffering when it’s needed.
What goals do you have in
your work world? Since I’m the
newest addition to Orange City
Family Animal Care, my first goal
is to build up my relationships
with clients. I love getting to
know clients and their pets, so
I’m looking forward to meeting
new people. I’d eventually like to
increase business so that we
are able to purchase a carbon
dioxide surgical laser. This laser
would allow for more precise
surgeries and does help increase
healing times plus has less
bleeding problems with incisions.
I’m also trying to increase
Facebook audiences with
educational videos and posts
with what we do at the veterinary
clinic.
What are your goals outside
of work? As a full-time mom
and veterinarian, my main goal
outside of work is to raise kind
human beings that are an asset
to society. I want my kids growing
up thinking they can hold the
world on their shoulders if they
try hard enough. That nothing is
beyond their reach. My husband
and I are strong in our faith,
and I want to teach my kids,
and others, that the trials we
experience in life, God is always
with us and His plan is perfect for
us. Even if we don’t always see
it. A material goal would be to
eventually pay off my mortgage. :)
Share an experience that led
you to where you are today.
When I was young, my dog, Rolly,
was hit by a car. The veterinarian
put a cast on her leg and four
weeks later, she was healed. I
thought that was the coolest
thing ever. My mom is/was a
nurse so my love of medicine
stemmed from her. However,
veterinarians have the best of
both worlds because they get
to work with animals, interact
with their owners, and work with
medicine. It seemed like the
perfect job for me.
What advice would you give
to other young professionals?
Keep trying and don’t ever give
up. When Thomas Edison was
asked how it felt to fail 1,000
times in his attempt to invent
the incandescent light bulb, he
replied, “I didn’t fail 1,000 times.
The light bulb was an invention
with 1,000 steps.” This quote
is great to live by because
you probably aren’t going to
understand or do something
correctly the first time every time.
Sometimes, it’s going to take
1,000 steps to figure it out. And
that’s OK.
What would you like to see
other leaders in N’West Iowa
address? I would love to see
leaders address the lack of
children/family opportunities
in the area. Orange City has
Kinderzone for younger children,
and Sioux Center has the aquatic
center with ice arena. But I think
we lack in activities for older aged
children to participate in. Or even
for adults to be able to go on a
date at that would be more than
just out to dinner.
What’s your go-to activity in
N’West Iowa in the evenings or
over the weekend? We have a
family pass to the aquatic center
in Sioux Center, so we take the
kids swimming frequently. In the
summer we swim at the Hospers
pool a lot. Otherwise, we tend
to stay busy outside when the
weather is nice by going to parks
or the zoo in either Sioux Falls or
Omaha. The kids also like going to
Kinderzone in Orange City as well.
What do you like to do in your
free time? When I’m alone, I love
to read. I also enjoy cooking and
baking. I love hosting parties or
friendly get-togethers, and in the
summertime, I enjoy gardening
and canning.
Name one book, movie, show
or podcast you love? I love
reading books by Sarah J. Maas
and Rebecca Yarros along with
many others. I will forever be a
“Harry Potter” fan and my favorite
movie is “White Chicks.”
Share a fun fact about
yourself. I am obsessed with
large and giant breed dogs. The
bigger the better. I currently
have two Saint Bernards, Gibbs
and Patches, and one Great
Pyrenees, Hagrid.
What is one word that
describes you? Compassionate.
SATURDAY, MARCH 8, 2025 THE N’WEST IOWA REVIEW/SHELDON, IA E14
KRISTEN PLUEGER ROCK VALLEY | Owner and instructor at Pulse 712 Fitness & Training in Rock Valley
Age: 31
Education: Associate of arts
in business from Northwest
Iowa Community College in
2015, bachelor of arts in criminal
justice, bachelor of arts in political
science, certificate in addiction
counseling and prevention from
University of South Dakota in
Vermillion in 2018.
Experience: I’ve held highlevel
management roles in
various industries, including
manufacturing and health care
(specifically in a medical spa
setting). These experiences gave
me valuable leadership skills
and a deep understanding of
operations, customer service,
and team management. I’ve
also worked for the U.S. Senate,
been a dance instructor for over
15 years, and have high-level
experience in marketing and
sales.
What are some of your
accomplishments? I’ve always
prioritized continuous learning,
earning multiple certifications,
diplomas, and degrees to
expand my knowledge and
expertise. One of my biggest
accomplishments has been
building Pulse 712 from the
ground up — creating a fitness
community that empowers
people to live stronger, healthier
lives. Navigating the challenges
of business ownership, including
the ups and downs of growth
and even overcoming a flood,
has been both challenging and
rewarding. Becoming an official
HYROX training club, expanding
our offerings, and continuing to
grow our Pulse community are
milestones I’m especially proud
of.
What are you passionate
about? I’m passionate about
helping people live healthier,
stronger lives — both physically
and mentally. Through Pulse
712, I’ve seen firsthand how
fitness can be a powerful
tool for building confidence,
resilience and community. I’m
also passionate about staying
positive and optimistic, focusing
on what can be controlled, and
not stressing over what can’t. Life
will always throw challenges our
way, but how we respond to them
makes all the difference.
What goals do you have in
your work world? My biggest
goal is to continue growing
Pulse 712 as a leading fitness
and wellness community. This
includes expanding our services,
such as adding Reformer Pilates,
building up our HYROX training
program, and so much more
— those details are just staying
under wraps for now ;). Most
importantly, I want Pulse 712 to
remain a place where people feel
empowered, supported, and part
of something bigger than just a
workout.
What are your goals outside
of work? Honestly, I just want
to be a good human. I want to
be somebody who is known
for being respectful, someone
people could potentially look
up to. My goals also include
philanthropy efforts and giving
back to the community, helping
others succeed and supporting
causes that make a positive
impact.
Share an experience that led
you to where you are today.
Losing both of my parents at
a relatively young age shaped
my perspective on resilience
and independence. I’ve faced
life-changing experiences that
many may never go through,
and they’ve taught me the
importance of perseverance
and self-reliance. These
challenges fueled my drive to
build something meaningful,
leading to the creation of Pulse
712. From navigating the ups and
downs of business ownership
to overcoming the challenges
of the flood, I’ve learned to trust
in my own strength while also
embracing the support of the
incredible community around
me. These experiences have
reinforced my belief in focusing
on what can be controlled,
staying adaptable, and helping
others find their own strength
through fitness and wellness.
What advice would you give
to other young professionals?
Trust yourself and be willing
to take risks. Growth doesn’t
happen in your comfort zone,
and challenges are often the best
learning opportunities. Stay open
to new experiences, always keep
learning, and surround yourself
with people who push you to be
better. And most importantly,
don’t be afraid to fail — because
every setback is just another
step toward success.
What would you like to see
other leaders in N’West Iowa
address? I’d love to see more
conversations around overall
wellness — physical, mental
and emotional. Creating strong
communities means supporting
people in every aspect of life,
whether it’s fitness, mental health
or work-life balance. It would be
great to see more collaboration
between businesses, schools
and community leaders to
promote wellness in all its forms.
What’s your go-to activity in
N’West Iowa in the evenings
or over the weekend? I love
checking out and supporting
small businesses, both new and
longtime favorites. There are
so many amazing businesses
that have opened up, and I enjoy
seeing what they have to offer.
Whether it’s grabbing a coffee,
shopping locally or trying a new
restaurant, I love being part of
the community and supporting
others chasing their dreams.
What do you like to do in your
free time? I love to travel, spend
time outdoors, and play with my
dogs — I’m a big dog person! I
also like to read and do research,
channeling my inner bookworm.
Whether it’s diving into a good
book or learning something
new, I’m always curious and love
expanding my knowledge.
Name one book, movie,
show or podcast you love?
I’m all about action, adventure
and crime stories! Since I was a
criminal justice major, I’ve always
been drawn to anything that
involves investigations, highstakes
situations and problemsolving.
Whether it’s a crime
thriller, an intense action movie
or a true crime podcast, I love
anything that keeps me hooked
and on the edge of my seat.
Share a fun fact about
yourself. I’m an adrenaline
junkie with very few fears in
life — anything that’s all about
action or thrill, I’m down for! I
love embracing the rush and
stepping out of my comfort zone
whenever possible.
What is one word that
describes you? Creative.

What are you passionate about?
I really strive to find ways to be a part
of the community I am in. Moving from
Minnesota, I had to find ways to get
involved and to meet people in a brandnew
community. It was difficult at first,
but I have really found a home here and
plan to stay. I lived in Nepal for a bit and
enjoyed being able to provide care to
the underserved population. I also am
passionate about my faith and bringing
that into health care. I do oftentimes pray
with my patients.
What goals do you have in your work
world? My top priority is to provide
compassionate care to my patients. I
care about them physically, emotionally,
and spiritually. My next goal would be to
continue to train future generations of PAs.
I like being involved with the PA program
at Northwestern College and hope to
continue to lecture and precept students.
What are your goals outside of work?
Hitting the Seven Wonders of the World in
seven years!
Share an experience that led you
to where you are today. Nepal — see
above. I was in a horrific car accident this
summer in June. I am still recovering after
multiple surgeries. Spending most of the
summer in the hospital and continuing
to do physical therapy has allowed me to
see what it is like to be in the patient role.
It has made me a better provider as well
as brought a new meaning to life. Life is so
precious. That is why it is such an honor
to be able to take care of people. They are
putting their trust in me to take care of
them, and that is truly an incredible gift.
What advice would you give to other
young professionals? Build a community
of people around you that lift you up
and challenge you professionally and
personally. I have amazing people in my life,
especially in my work partner.
What would you like to see other
leaders in N’West Iowa address? Improve
access for underserved individuals. More
programs that teach about healthy living.
More local farmers markets to uplift
people who have a passion for growing
healthy foods. Activities within the public to
support young families.
What’s your go-to activity in N’West
Iowa in the evenings or over the week -
end? I enjoy going to local eateries and
boutiques. We love getting brunch on
Saturdays. I love going to Joie on Saturday
mornings to get flowers and the local
coffee shops. I love a good prime rib, so
have traveled northwest Iowa to find one.
We really enjoy 1015 steakhouse in Sibley.
I also like being outside, having a nice
bonfire on a summer day.
OUR TOP PRIORITY IS POWERING YOUR CAREER.
Congratulations

ADAM VAN DER STOEP HULL | Senior pastor at First Reformed Church in Hull
Age: 34
Family: Wife, Shaelee.
Education: Bachelor of science in
Biblical studies from Northwestern College
in Orange City 2013; master of divinity
from Western Theological Seminary in
Holland, MI, in 2017.
Experience: Sudenga Industries, metal
fabricator, 2008-11 (summer job to pay for
college); EZ Liner, highway painter, 2013-
17 (summer job to pay for seminary);
pastor of Hamilton Reformed Church in
Michigan, 2017-21; senior pastor of First
Reformed Church in Hull, 2021-present;
adjunct professor at Northwestern
College, January 2025-present.
What are some of your accomplish -
ments? With the help and support of my
wife, I was able to organize a fundraiser
called, “Run for Rock Valley” in September.
Together, we created a tristate, grassroots
giving campaign aimed at
supporting flood victims in the Rock Valley
community. My wife and I, along with other
runners in the area, ran or walked four
miles every four hours over the course of
48 hours (48 miles total) raising awareness
of the ongoing recovery needs while also
raising around $60,000 for the friends of
Rock Valley Foundation.
What are you passionate about? I’m
passionate about mobilizing congregations
to advance the mission of Jesus in their
own backyard. I aim to lead in a way that
inspires churches to become more:
intellectually curious, emotionally mature,
culturally competent, spiritually vibrant and
unapologetically evangelical. That’s what
gets me out of bed in the morning.
What goals do you have in your work
world? My goal is to shepherd FRC in
its mission: To obey Jesus, to prioritize
people, and to strengthen our community.
I aim to do this in a few different ways:
As we edge into the future, I offer our
governing board strategic and visionary
leadership for aligning our church with the
movement of the Holy Spirit. For our staff,
I help cultivate a healthy, forward thinking,
and team-oriented atmosphere of mutual
support and encouragement. And with our
congregation, my emphasis is always the
same: hospitality and spiritual formation.
People are hungry for real community
and a transformative encounter with the
Almighty. But finding a church in northwest
Iowa that consistently provides both is
difficult. We’re not perfect at FRC, but
I’m challenging our church to become
a place where folks can worship, build
relationships, discover who Jesus is, and
grow deeper in their faith.
What are your goals outside of
work? Outside of work, my only goals
are to be good husband, a good son, a
good brother, a good friend and a good
neighbor. I’ve tried chasing other goals,
but I’ve found they are less fulfilling and
far less important. Share an experience
that led you to where you are today. In
the summer of 2016, I took an full-time
internship working at a church in Denver,
CO. During that time, I was a seminary
student seeking to become an ordained
pastor. But while I was in Denver, I had
an intense and sincere world-view crisis
where I seriously considered a conversion
to Islam. But through personal study and
investigation, I rediscovered and renewed
my commitment to the Christian faith.
It would be hard to overstate how this
experience has shaped my life. It not only
inspired me to stick with Jesus, but it
also motivated me to build up Christians
for a more confident witness in the 21st
century. Christians must have reasons for
the faith that they profess, and they must
be prepared to share those reasons with
gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15).
Serving as the senior pastor of FRC gives
me the chance to teach others to do just
that.
What advice would you give to other
young professionals? Listen to anyone.
Learn from everyone. Love fiercely. Lead
courageously.
What would you like to see other
leaders in N’West Iowa address? A key
issue to be addressed is the cultural
and economic assimilation of Hispanic/
Latino immigrants. A proven and effective
solution for this is to increase subsidies
and other incentives for ESL and SSL
programs, along with resources for local
food banks. Now is the time to show the
power of Midwestern hospitality. What is
the best that could happen?
What’s your go-to activity in N’West
Iowa in the evenings or over the
weekend? My wife and I enjoy dining out
or grabbing coffee at the best coffee shop
in northwest Iowa, The Grain House in Hull.
The food is excellent, and the people are
great.
What do you like to do in your free
time? I enjoy fishing in the summer and
bow hunting in the fall. I blog about why
people see the world differently, and how
a biblical lens on life shapes our view of
the world. I also like doing things that scare
me. I’ll try anything twice like challenging
myself and attempting things I’m afraid to
try.
Name one book, movie, show or
podcast you love? “Soul Survivor: How 13
Unlikely Mentors Helped My Faith Survive
the Church” by Philip Yancy. This book was
given to me by a parishioner in Michigan.
Both he and the book have had a great
impact on my life.
Share a fun fact about yourself. In
2022 I completed a full distance Ironman
triathlon in Des Moines. I swam 2.4 miles,
biked 112 miles, and then ran a fulldistance
marathon of 26.2 miles. I’m not
actually proud of the fact that I finished
the race before the cutoff time. But I am
immensely satisfied with myself because I
refused to give up and drop out of the race
when the it felt impossible to press on.
What is one word that describes you?
Driven.

SATURDAY, MARCH 8, 2025 THE N’WEST IOWA REVIEW/SHELDON, IA E23
ALISSA VAN ZWEDEN HULL
Owner of Alissa’s Flower Farm
Age: 38
Family: Husband, Nate; children,
Noah, Aiden, Addison.
Education: Floral design at
Southeast Technical College in Sioux
Falls, SD, 2004-05.
Experience: My parents owned an
organic vegetable farm, and while I
worked on our family farm, I managed
the packing shed and our seasonal
employees. When fieldwork was
minimal, I worked in several floral shops
as a designer and clerk.
What are some of your accomplish -
ments? My most significant
achievement is balancing my role
as a stay-at-home mom while also
managing a growing business. I
appreciate that our business enables
my husband and me to collaborate
closely and spend quality time with
our children, all the while showing and
teaching them our own work ethic.
What are you passionate about?
I am deeply passionate about
flowers, plants and my family. Flowers
represent my art form while bringing
joy to our hearts and smiles to
our faces. I take great pleasure in
conducting workshops and helping
people reach their creative potential.
It is immensely rewarding to see
their eyes light up when they create
something beautiful. Sharing our
exquisite flower fields and surrounding
grounds with the community has
been an incredible opportunity to
demonstrate what is possible in the
fertile soil of northwest Iowa.
What goals do you have in your
work world? My goals are to provide
growth and learning opportunities
for our staff, expand nationwide
shipping, and become a destination for
agritourism. We aim to reduce waste
by creating as many floral products as
possible and always prioritize providing
quality, chemical-free cut flowers for
our clients, florists, and brides.
What are your goals outside of
work? Balancing my life to work ratio
so there is more time to take the kids
on experiences.
Share an experience that led
you to where you are today.
During my teenage years, our family
experienced a serious car accident
that resulted in my father becoming
semi-handicapped. To assist with
household expenses, my mother and I
began cultivating organic flowers and
vegetables, which we sold at the local
farmers market.
What advice would you give to
other young professionals? Don’t be
afraid to ask questions. There’s always
someone with more experience —
learn from them!
What do you like to do in your free
time? I enjoy cooking nutritional foods
for my family, traveling together, going
to farmers markets, exposing our
kids to many different experiences as
possible.
Name one book, movie, show
or podcast you love? I really enjoy
researching and learning how to grow
a different crop, or how to encourage
a flower to bloom earlier in the
season, pushing the odds against our
northwest Iowa weather.
Share a fun fact about yourself.
I was a black belt in taekwondo and
jujitsu.
What is one word that describes
you? Motivated.
TERRAN WEAVER LARRABEE
Youth and women’s minister at Sutherland Church of Christ.
Age: 30
Family: Husband, Andrew; son, Silas, 2½;
expecting our second child mid-April.
Education: Associate in business
management and marketing from Iowa
Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg.
Experience: Activities assistant at Prairie
View Campus, Sanborn.
What are some of your accomplishments?
1. Creating a monthly women’s
ministry outreach event called “LIFT”
(Living in Faith Together); 2. Built our
church website from scratch; 3. Starting
up the coffee ministry at our church, Holy
Grounds Coffee Shop that is open every
Sunday before each of our two morning
services and opening up and serving the
community every first Saturday of the
month as well as serving drinks at our
monthly women’s outreach event, LIFT.
What are you passionate about?
Sharing the Gospel with teens in the
area, ministering to them through CYM
(Christian Youth Ministry), our youth group
for any seventh- to 12th-grade teen in the
area. This past year, our church has been
blessed with an addition to our Family Life
Center where that allowed us to have a
new upstairs youth space that is a place
designed just for teens and for them to call
their own and to grow in their faith.
What goals do you have in your work
world? Being a Christlike role model for
our youth while being there to support
them in various areas. Ministering to
others simply by being someone they can
lean on, confide in and trust.
What are your goals outside of work?
Continuously growing in my faith as it
pours into my marriage and raising my
children with a Christ-centered lifestyle.
Coffee and hospitality have always held a
special place in my heart. Someday, God
willing, I would love to own and run my own
coffee shop. Never did I imagine I would
travel internationally, but back in 2019, I
was able to go on a touring trip to Iceland
with two of my close friends, my motherin-law,
Sheila, and best friend, Amy Arrick.
Now being in a season of growing our
family/raising kids, in time, I would love to
visit Ireland someday — definitely on my
bucket list.
What advice would you give to other
young professionals? It’s OK to not know
what you want to do with your life right out
of high school; I know and understand that
feeling.
What do you like to do in your free
time? Going to the movies. Going for
walks/ATV rides to the pasture checking
the cows with my family. Utilizing my
creative side (drawing, graphic designing,
crocheting, etc.)
Name one book, movie, show or
podcast you love? Movie: “Remember
the Titans”; show: “Gilmore Girls”; podcast:
“Enjoying Everyday Life” by Joyce Meyers.
Share a fun fact about yourself. I have
always enjoyed trimming trees around our
farm, and I enjoy bird watching. My favorite
band is the country group “Alabama.”
What is one word that describes you?
Motivated.
