Comments on Kash from Coach Van Oort:
Kash Koopmans winning the AAU State Championship is an iconic
moment for the Falcon Wrestling Club, as he becomes our first
wrestler to win this prestigious tournament as an 8th grader. This
marks his second state title, and he didn’t just win—he dominated
the competition with two pins, a tech fall, a decision, and an 11-1
major decision in the finals.
This tournament caps off an incredible youth career, and we are
excited to get him into the high school room next year. Kash is
fundamentally sound, has an unmatched work ethic, and is one of
the most disciplined athletes I have ever seen. Calling him mature
beyond his years would be an understatement.
Comment from Kash Koopmans:
It feels amazing ending my AAU career on top of the podium. It feels even
better knowing that all the of extra runs, workouts, and practices have paid
off. It truly wouldn’t be possible without my parents, coaches, and training
partners. Wrestling is a grind and a sport like no other. It has taught me lots of
things in life such as fighting through adversity, hard work, and discipline. I’ve
had a passion to be the best I could and a love like no other for the sport ever
since I strapped up my first pair of wrestling shoes at four years old. Looking
back, I thought and dreamed a lot about winning a state title when I was
little. My younger self would definitely be proud of what I have accomplished.
Although I did achieve my goal of being a state champ this year, I still have
tons of things to work on and I will strive to constantly continue to improve
every day.
Comment on Kash from Kasen Lopez:
Kash Koopmans is a great example, he pushed me in the room and he would text
me and ask if I wanted to go to the room on the weekends and that hard work paid
off for us both! I would thank Kash for that!

Comments on Braydon from Coach Van Oort:
Braydon VanBeek had a fantastic tournament, earning his second
career top-8 finish and capping it off with a fall in the 5th place
match. I couldn’t be more excited for this young man!
Not only did he secure a top-6 finish, but he grew as a wrestler
throughout the tournament, showing tremendous progress and
determination. With a couple of years left in youth wrestling,
Braydon is sure to turn some heads as he works to climb the
podium. A year of strength training will do him well and will
complement his already impressive work ethic in the room.
Comments on Kasen from Coach Van Oort:
Kasen Lopez recorded his second career top-8 finish at the
AAU State Tournament, capping it off with a fall in his placing
match. He continues to show growth and toughness on the
mat, and we’re excited to have him join Kash Koopmans in the
high school room next year.
These two lightweights are going to turn some heads early and
often. Kasen’s explosive and unpredictable style will make him
a fan favorite, and we can’t wait to see what he accomplishes
at the next level.
Congratulations!
