Not a Word
In the 100 days or so since Donald Trump
and Elon Musk have joined forces, there’s
been no mention of critical issues like
climate change, saving what’s left of the
rainforest, or the urgent need to address
ocean pollution—issues that might
already be past the point of no return.
Before entering the White House, both
Trump and Musk downplayed or outright
dismissed the significance of climate
change. In a 2024 interview, Trump
even joked that rising sea levels would
just create “more oceanfront property,”
trivializing the growing threat of global
warming.
Elon Musk, while having acknowledged
climate change in the past, has been
criticized for failing to challenge Trump’s
dismissive rhetoric. Some experts believe
Musk might be the only person whose
opinion on climate issues Trump actually
listens to, raising concerns about Musk’s
influence on Trump’s environmental
policies or lack thereof.
This silence is especially striking when
compared to Musk’s earlier statements,

Potential divestment of Setras’s sawmill in Malå
SAWLINES
During 2025, Setra will
investigate the possibilities
of divesting the sawmill in
Malå. A divestment is expected
to contribute to Setra’s
opportunities to further
strengthen its position in
Central Sweden, where the
company’s raw material supply
is expected to improve in the
coming years.
During 2024, Setra took
major steps in an extensive
upgrade of the sawmill in
Malå with new timber intake,
new sawing line, updated raw
sorting and increased drying
capacity. The new saw line
has been installed, and startup
of the saw is proceeding
according to plan.
The full potential is
expected to be reached in
2027 when the capacity of
sawn goods increases from
the current 160,000 m3/year
to 340,000 m3/year.
Malå is located in one of
Europe’s most attractive raw
material areas, both in terms
of quality and growth.
The geographical location,
combined with a well-invested
sawmill, equipped with the
latest available technology,
creates good conditions for
long-term good earnings
and the opportunity to find a
good industrial home for the
sawmill in Malå.
The sales process will
take place in a structured
process during the first half of
2025, where Access Partners
has been mandated as
coordinating advisor.

Delta Motion and acontis technologies
team up on EtherCAT
UNMATCHED FLEXIBILITY AND CONNECTIVITY
FOR INDUSTRIAL MOTION CONTROL
Delta Motion, a leading
innovator in industrial
motion control,
announced the addition
of EtherCAT MainDevice
capability to its RMC200
Motion Controller.
By partnering with
acontis technologies
and leveraging their
robust software suite, Delta
Motion has successfully
implemented a full-featured
and highly flexible product.
The addition of EtherCAT
MainDevice capability to the
RMC200 offers unparalleled
flexibility for connecting to
and controlling any devices
needed for high-performance
hydraulic and electric
motion control in industrial
applications.
Why acontis
Delta Motion faced challenges
with other options that didn’t
meet their standards. Turning
to acontis, they immediately
recognized acontis’ renowned
competency, comprehensive
product portfolio, and
responsive support. acontis
provided detailed support
and accommodated numerous
requests, enabling Delta
to tailor the software for
a seamless customer
experience.
With acontis’ 20-year track
record as a leader in EtherCAT
technology, and ongoing
maintenance and updates of
its software, Delta is confident
this will be an enduring
partnership that keeps Delta’s
software abreast of the latest
EtherCAT developments.
“Delta is known for
providing the best possible
combination of performance
and ease of use,” says
Steve Nylund, CEO of Delta
Motion. “We wanted our
EtherCAT implementation
to be as user-friendly and
robust as our customers have
come to expect from Delta.
Teaming up with acontis
technologies was crucial
for achieving this, and our
engineers were pleased with
their responsiveness and
support during the integration
process. Initial response to
the product has confirmed
that we are meeting our high
standards.”
Tested and Proven Reliability
In addition to the decades of
testing and field experience
that acontis’ has put into
its EC-Master EtherCAT
MainDevice stack, Delta’s
integration of the stack into
the RMC200 has undergone
extensive beta testing with
a range of customers and
applications. These trials
allowed Delta Motion to
fine-tune the EtherCAT
implementation, ensuring
stability and performance
across diverse use cases.
Multiple firmware updates
during the beta phase
incorporated real-world
feedback, creating a
product ready for immediate
deployment.
Cont’d on Page 16
14 International Forest Industries | FEBRUARY / MARCH 2025
Cont’d from Page 14
“Our beta testers played
a crucial role in helping us
refine the EtherCAT modules
capabilities,” says Steve
Nylund. “The feedback we
received confirmed that our
solution delivers exceptional
performance and reliability
right out of the gate.”
I/O Your Way
The RMC200, already
renowned for its robust
performance and versatility,
now offers more options with
the addition of EtherCAT
support. The RMC200 can
handle up to 50 axes of
position and pressure control,
and supports any combination
of directly-connected and
EtherCAT I/O. For example,
on machines incorporating
both hydraulic and electric
motion, users may choose
EtherCAT-enabled drives for
electric axes, paired with
traditional directly-connected
servo-proportional valves
and feedback sensors for the
hydraulic axes.
“Electric drives with
EtherCAT often provide
significant advantages with no
cost adder, while the benefits
for other devices depend on
the application,” says Steve
Nylund. “Our goal is to give
our customers the capability
to implement best-in-class
systems.”
Why EtherCAT
High-Speed Communication:
EtherCAT technology, known
for its high speed and minimal
jitter, ensures precise realtime
control of complex motion
systems.
Scalability: The RMC200
supports up to 50 axes
of motion, extending its
application into larger
systems. EtherCAT can handle
a large number of networked
devices without significant
performance degradation.
Flexibility: The widespread
global adoption of EtherCAT,
especially for motor drives,
means more devices can easily
connect to Delta’s RMC200
Motion Controllers.
Reduced Wiring: EtherCAT can
significantly reduce wiring
costs and complexity for many
systems, reducing installation
time and costs.
About Delta Motion
For over 40 years, Delta Motion
has been a leading supplier
of motion controllers and
industrial products. Delta’s
RMC Motion Controllers are
found in servo-hydraulic and
servo-electric closed-loop
control in a wide array of
single and multi-axes control
and testing applications
around the globe.
About acontis
acontis technologies is a
leading provider of EtherCAT
software and real-time
hypervisor solutions. The
acontis EC-Master is used in
more than 1.5 million EtherCAT
controllers in numerous

Koskisen launches
comprehensive investment
programme in Panel Industry
Koskisen is launching
a comprehensive
investment program in
the plywood production
of its Panel Industry
business in Järvelä.
The investment program
will extend through
Koskisen’s strategic
period, until the end of
2027. The first phase of the

Comact, a global leader
in wood processing
solutions, proudly
introduces its new hybrid
sawline: a groundbreaking
system that combines circular
saws and bandsaws in the
primary breakdown process.
This state-of-the-art solution
represents the next generation
of sawmilling technology,
seamlessly integrating speed,
flexibility, and advanced
performance to accommodate
a wide range of log diameters.
Primary Breakdown:
Combining Circular Saws and
Bandsaws
At the heart of the new
hybrid sawline is its ability to
seamlessly integrate circular
saws and bandsaws, providing
unmatched efficiency in
handling a wide range of log
sizes.
Circular saws, designed
for rapid, high-speed cutting,
efficiently process logs up to
20 inches in diameter with
minimal downtime. Their
ease of maintenance and
cost-effectiveness make them
ideal for the bulk of sawmill
production, delivering both
precision and efficiency.
For larger logs exceeding
20 inches, the system
incorporates bandsaws,
extending the cutting capacity
of the sawline. Bandsaws
handle oversized timber
beyond the capability of
circular saws, ensuring no
recovery opportunities are
missed, regardless of log size.
This hybrid approach makes
the sawline uniquely capable
of maximizing throughput and
efficiency without increasing
maintenance demands.
Flexibility to Meet Diverse

Woodworking community
sees LIGNA 2025 as the most
important milestone of the year
EXHIBITORS RELY ON LIGNA AS AN ECONOMIC DRIVER
Hanover, Germany. LIGNA
in Hanover from 26 to 30
May 2025 will be one of
the most important milestones
for the woodworking and
wood processing industry
on the way to the hoped-for
industry turnaround. Three
months before the trade
show opens its gates in its
50th anniversary year, more
than 1,200 exhibitors from all
over the world occupy around
112,000 square metres of
exhibition space, sending a
strong signal in a challenging
industry situation.
“LIGNA is currently almost
at the same level as the
previous event,” says Dr.
Jochen Köckler, Chairman of
the Executive Board, Deutsche
Messe AG. “In view of the
economic conditions, we
are very grateful to everyone
involved for their confidence
in LIGNA. We are convinced
that the world’s leading
trade fair for the industry will
ensure greater productivity
and sustainability through
fantastic innovations and thus
provide the much-needed
motivation and confidence for
investments.”
“Hardly any exhibitor skips
LIGNA – and for good reason.
Especially in challenging
times, direct dialogue with
customers is crucial to
generating new investment
momentum through innovative
solutions. LIGNA is the
platform where pioneering
technologies are presented
to an international audience
of experts. And it’s not just
manufacturers who cannot
afford to miss this opportunity
– customers, too, must be
there, as the future course of
the industry is set right here in
Hanover,” says Dr. Bernhard
Dirr, Managing Director of
the VDMA Woodworking
Machinery Association,
Frankfurt am Main.
Motivation for Emerging from
the Downturn
Stephanie Wagner, Head of
LIGNA at Deutsche Messe
AG, sees the strong industry
response to LIGNA as a clear
vote of confidence: “We are
looking forward to a powerful
LIGNA anniversary edition
and are convinced that the
trade fair, together with its
exhibitors and visitors, has the
potential to inspire renewed
confidence in the market.
It wouldn’t be the first time
that LIGNA has served as the
decisive catalyst for restarting
the economic engine.”
The significance of LIGNA
as the world’s leading trade
fair remains strong, and
constructive dialogue at LIGNA
2025 is more crucial than ever.
Samiron Mondal, CEO of
Siempelkamp Business Unit
Capital, emphasizes: “LIGNA is
the ideal forum for us to meet
global customers, showcase
our innovations, and bring the
trade fair’s motto – ‘Linking
people, driving innovation’ –
to life. Moreover, we greatly
benefit from the exchange of
ideas at the event.”
Like Mondal, whose
company has been exhibiting
at LIGNA since its inception,
Rudolf Eickhoff, Technical
Managing Director of
Venjakob, also underscores
the importance of LIGNA
2025: “We are currently facing
intense competition in the
industry, with declining sales
in some areas.
This makes it all the
more important to discuss
the latest sustainable
production methods to ensure
our customers can remain
competitive in the long run.
We firmly believe that direct
contact at the trade fair not
only fosters trust but also lays
the foundation for successful
projects.”
LIGNA Caught Between Two
Scenarios
Industry experts and market
observers believe that the
woodworking and wood
processing industry – under
pressure in recent months,
particularly in Europe – could
see a recovery in the second
half of the year. However,
ongoing economic challenges
are fueling uncertainty and
eroding business confidence.
Unclear political developments
and their economic impact
have also led to delays in
crucial investment decisions.
Dr. Jochen Köckler remarks:
“We are navigating politically
tense times concerning
tariffs and exchange rates
– something many of us
have never experienced
before. The German federal
elections and the outcome
of the U.S. presidency will
bring clarity. Regardless of
broader economic conditions,
the woodworking and wood
processing industry remains
indispensable. Wood, as a
raw material, is the ultimate
symbol of CO₂ storage and
sustainability.”

A LEADER IN THE FOREST INDUSTRY
Log Max designs and manufactures
advanced, high-tech harvester heads
in Sweden for forest machinery. These
harvester heads are capable of felling,
delimbing, and cutting trees into
specified lengths. The head is a versatile
tool that mounts onto a crane, which
is then attached to various types of
carriers, including conventional wheeled
harvesters or tracked excavators.
LOG MAX AROUND THE WORLD
Log Max heads are in operation across
five continents, with established dealers
in nearly 35 countries. The company also
operates a subsidiary, Log Max do Brasil,
in Brazil. Their goal is to consistently
provide reliable, top-quality products, no
matter where in the world they are used.
OPTIMISED STEM HOLDING
Log Max heads stand out much due to
their unique patented Active Friction
Control (AFC) system, which determines
how the head handles the stem.
The aim is for the stem to be fed
through the head with as little friction
as possible.
Minimal friction also means:
• High timber value
• Less wear and fewer interruptions
• Better fuel economy
• No pressure spikes and so minimal
hose replacements
• Greater durability and so higher
resale value
RELIABILITY
Log Max heads are renowned for their
reliability, and there are many reasons
for this.
The sources of this high reliability are
the head design and Their patented AFC
system, which provides the foundation on
which the head is built.
The AFC system enables short hose
routes and straight feed roller angles,
resulting in a head that is exposed to
minimal wear and is therefore extremely
reliable
TOP MULTI-STEMMING ON THE MARKET
They want to create the best possible
conditions for their customers to work
effectively and efficiently. Multi-stemming
is part of these efforts.
For thinning work, a multi-stemming
unit is a must. Here are some of the
advantages of multi-stemming:
• Greater efficiency and so higher
productivity
• Fewer work steps
• Less damage to standing trees
• Fewer work steps means lower fuel
consumption

to full bound stroke.
TRD Pro comes fitted with
TRD-tuned FOX® QS3 threeway
adjustable internal bypass
shocks with remote reservoirs
for improved high speed
off-road performance, and
external FOX Internal Floating
Piston (IFP) rear bump stops
to improve bottom out feel.
Trailhunter includes Old Man
Emu® (OME) forged monotube
shocks with remote reservoirs
that are tuned for optimum
levels of off-road control and
load carrying capability.
The Limited grades
feature an Adaptive Variable
Suspension (AVS) system that
constantly adjusts damping
forces based on changing
road conditions. The linearsolenoid-type
AVS system
features built-in actuators
in the front and rear shock
absorbers to continuously
change damping force based
on road conditions to help
give the Tacoma a smooth and
luxurious ride.
All Tacoma grades come
with standard disc brakes on
the front and rear, providing
improved driving dynamics
and allowing for correlation of
damping force to the amount
of brake pedal pressure for
easier pedal control in daily
use and reduced fatigue.
Tacoma features Electric Power
Steering (EPS) to provide
improved steering feel and
facilitate the incorporation
of additional safety and
convenience features.
MAXimum Capability
Tacoma’s legendary offroad
capability is taken to
the next level, making it the
ultimate adventure machine.
One stand-out feature is
the Stabilizer Disconnect
Mechanism (SDM). Standard
on Trailhunter and TRD Pro
and available on TRD Off-Road,
SDM increases suspension
articulation across the whole
vehicle at the push of a button
and will even be compatible
with Toyota-approved lift kits.
TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and
Trailhunter drivers can view
potential obstacles that are
looming on the trail via the
Multi-Terrain Monitor that can
display crisply on the available
14-inch touchscreen. For
the sketchiest of situations,
Tacoma offers standard
underbody protection and
front recovery points, with
additional protection and rear
recovery points standard on
TRD Pro and Trailhunter.
Multi-Terrain Select, which
is functional in both 4WD-
High and 4WD-Low, offers
adjustable settings to help
control wheel spin on a variety
of terrain such as Mud, Dirt,
and Sand. Tacoma also makes
available Toyota’s nextgeneration
CRAWL Control
technology that acts as a lowspeed,
off-road cruise control.
When traction is extremely
limited, the available
electronically activated locking
rear differential can help split
power sent to the rear 50/50
between the rear wheels.
Downhill Assist Control is
another off-road feature
available and helps the driver
navigate descents by limiting
the speed of the vehicle.
Tacoma buyers need their
truck to meet a wide variety
of demands. Pulling a trailer,
boat or UTV means towing
capability is a crucial feature.
Fortunately, Tacoma is up to
the challenge thanks to its
maximum towing capacity of
up to 6,500 lbs. and maximum
payload of up to 1,705 lbs.
Those impressive towing
numbers are paired with
advanced towing features
like an available trailer brake
controller and a digital rearview
mirror. Trailer Back Up
Guide with Straight Path Assist
is also available and features
a combination of sensors and
cameras to help keep your
trailer in a straight line while
reversing. This technology
also gives the driver a
360-degree simulated topdown
view of the vehicle to
aid overall visibility, including
tough-to-see areas around the
truck and trailer. With Straight
Path Assist activated, the
Tacoma automatically controls
steering input designed to
help precise trailer positioning
when reversing, allowing
the driving to focus solely on
throttle and braking. During
regular on-road driving
conditions, Tacoma’s available
Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) can
identify when a trailer is being
towed and extend the area of
detection to recognize and
alert the driver to potential
hazards in blind spots for not
only the truck, but the trailer
as well.
Trucks
Another newly available
towing accessory is the
Wireless Trailer Camera.
When installed on the back of
your trailer it provides a live,
High-Definition view of what
is behind the trailer displayed
on the digital rearview mirror.
When loaded up for an
overlanding trip or towing a
boat to the lake, the all-new
manual headlight leveling
switch is used for glare
reduction for vehicles ahead.
The switch is located within
easy reach of the driver’s seat.
Making the Grade
Tacoma is available in SR,
SR5, TRD PreRunner, TRD
Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited,
TRD Pro, and Trailhunter.
Numerous configurations
are offered such as two cab
styles that are available with
either a five- or six-foot bed:
a four-door Double Cab and a
two-door XtraCab with clever
storage features behind the
front two seats.
