"You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you" Acts 1:8
Have you ever thought about what John
14:12 means? “Truly, truly, I say to you,
whoever believes in me will also do the
works that I do; and greater works than
these will he do, because I am going to
the Father.” I’ve always contemplated
what “greater works” we would do. I
mean, Jesus already did so many
miracles. I know there have been other
miracles performed in my lifetime. I
think about all the times growing up
when I did see healing miracles in the
altar. I’ve seen legs get longer. I’ve seen
people get up and walk. I’ve seen it, so I
know God still does miracles today.
I think about the Greek word dunamis
(δύναμις) in the Bible which means
"power", "ability", or "potential". When
you see that dunamis power, it is
describing a kind of power that
multiplies itself like dynamite! That’s
some kind of power!
We see this dumanis power in the Bible
when Jesus was resurrected. But what
does that mean for us today?

The blood of Jesus covers a multitude
of sin but we forget the dunamis
power. When we come up in Christ
(resurrected from sin), we have that
same power in us that raised Jesus
from the dead. Acts 1:8 says “You will
receive power when the Holy Spirit
comes upon you.”
Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted
and bind up their wounds. It takes the
power of the Holy Spirit living in us to
accomplish that. If you are a child of
God, you have the power in you. It
needs to be activated.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you come to
the realization that the power of God is
inside of you. Activate it by meditating
on God’s Word. Pray in faith and speak
to those mountains in your life.
We don’t have to get more dunamis.
We already have it living inside of us.
We just have to become better at using
it!

PURPOSE
Purpose is an evangelistic ministry
team. They think of themselves more
than just a singing group. They define
themselves as an evangelistic team.
The trio consists of Byron Gann, Paula
McDougle & Tim Williams. No matter
what kind of stage they are on, and no
matter how many people are in the
audience, the message of what the Lord
has done does not change. They have
been singing and playing gospel music
most of their lives, and each has a
passion for sharing the gospel through
music, song and Word.

Purpose officially began its ministry in
July of 2011. In 2017, Purpose had its
first radio release with a song entitled
“Trust Him,” written by one of the
group’s members. “Trust Him” was their
first song to break into the Singing News
national chart. This was followed by
other songs such as “Never Be the
Same”, "Ask Bartimaeus", "My God is Still
Able”, “I’ve Just Touched Jesus”, and
“Take Me to His Throne."
Their current radio release is "He will
Calm the Troubled Waters" from their
project "Favorites and Classics Vol. 3".
The Lord continues to open doors, and
expand their ministry territory. Contact

Reflections from Mayberry

Here are some scriptures that have been
special to me. Life has a way of changing
in a split second but I am so glad we have
a Savior who always cares and is there for
us no matter what the situation is.
Romans 12:12 - Rejoicing in hope; patient
in tribulation; continuing instant in
prayer;
Romans 15:13 - Now the God of hope fill
you with all joy and peace in believing,
that ye may abound in hope, through the
power of the Holy Ghost.
Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the thoughts
that I think toward you, saith the LORD,
thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give
you an expected end.
Romans 5:2-5 - By whom also we have
access by faith into this grace wherein we
stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of

Deuteronomy 31:6 - Be strong and of a
good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of
them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that
doth go with thee; he will not fail thee,
nor forsake thee.
Isaiah 40:31 - But they that wait upon the
LORD shall renew their strength; they
shall mount up with wings as eagles; they
shall run, and not be weary; and they shall
walk, and not faint.
Isaiah 41:10 - Fear thou not; for I am

with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy
God: I will strengthen thee; yea, 1 will help
thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right
hand of my righteousness.
Hope seems to be the theme of these
verses. With Christ there is hope in every
situation. Faith is another key component
as well.
Hope (Webster’s Dictionary) - The general
consensus from all dictionary definitions is
that hope is a feeling of expectation, a
desire or wish for a certain thing to happen.
Hope (Biblical) - Hope is an expectation
with certainty that God will do what he has
said.
Notice the difference. The dictionary
definition says a desire or hope for
something to happen. The Biblical
definition on the other hand says it is an
expectation with certainty that God will do
what He has said. That is where our faith
steps in. We have faith as Christians that
God will intercede on our behalf no matter
the circumstance. I hope these verses help
you as they have helped me over the past
few months. Hope was born in a stable
thousands of years ago and He is still alive,
well and interceding for us today.

MARRIAGE & MORE
We are all capable of sin. We hurt
people; not because we want to but
because we live in a broken world, and
this world affects us. This world
poisons us, and the only thing that can
cleanse us is God. And we need
cleansing a lot! We often lose our way,
and forget what we have learned. We
let our emotions get the best of us.
We ALL do this from time to time and
that’s the STINKIN’ TRUTH!
Knowing and embracing the truth
brings freedom, as stated in John 8:32:
"And you will know the truth, and the
truth will set you free". Galatians
5:16-21 says, “But I say, walk by the
Spirit, and you will not gratify the
desires of the flesh. For the desires of
the flesh are against the Spirit, and
the desires of the Spirit are against
the flesh for these are opposed to
each other, to keep you from doing the
things you want to do. But if you are
led by the Spirit, you are not under
the law. Now the works of the flesh are
evident: sexual immorality, impurity,
sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity,

strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries,
dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness,
orgies, and things like these. I warn
you, as I warned you before, that those
who do such things will not inherit the
kingdom of God.”
SIN and TRUTH are at war with each
other...FLESH and SPIRIT, that is. Sin will
tell us not to do anything about it (SIN),
but Truth will say “I will set you free!” Sin
will tell us not to disturb what no one
knows about, but Truth says “I do not live
in anyone who says they have no sin.
They are deceiving themselves.” Sin will
make you believe that you might just
have to wear the fragrance of sin or that
green stripe of the “skunk” sin for a while,
as it will eventually go away. Truth says
“Depart from me. I never knew you.”
We’re called to a life that is reminiscent
of the life of Jesus Christ, but it takes an
enormous amount of work and
dependency on God. It cannot, and
should not, be done without the love,
power, and grace of God. Ask God’s
forgiveness and live a life worthy of the
calling you have received. (Ephesians 4:1)

Like most Christians, Ivan has known some
"ups and downs," but he has lived with his
favorite passage of scripture, Psalm 23. "I
believe God does His greatest works in us
when we are in the valley. It is there that
we are more open to what He has in store
for us." When Ivan was asked if he had any
unfulfilled dreams, he said, "You never
stop dreaming about where your ministry
is going. I just pray that God will take what
I am presently doing and increase it. I am
living my dream...but the dream is not
completed yet." The song will go on!
“The choice we have to follow God in
the good times and the bad is easy
once we make the decision to simply
chose God,” says Ivan. That same
message is echoed in Ivan's Signature
Song, "Midnight Cry" which has been
sung by him literally all over the world.
Ivan and his wife, Teresa, own Parker
Music Group. They have 2 sons, Josh
and Ryan. Joshua is now touring with
his Dad playing Guitar and working as
Product Manager/Sound Tech.

Jesus said, “Somebody touched Me,
for I perceived power going out from
Me.” Luke 8:46 (NKJV) That woman
was searching and hoping that Jesus
would pass by. We see in scripture
that his disciples said that there were
so many people around. But He knew
someone had faith for a healing. There
are a few things we can learn here.
A seed of thought needs action. She
touched Jesus and in other miracles,
we see in Scripture that Jesus says,
“Go. Your faith has healed you.”
Action put with their faith. The Holy
Spirit starts with a whisper in your
heart. “Ask Me, and I will give you
wisdom about the decision you need
to make.”
God’s miracles are displayed publicly.
As with the woman in Luke, she said “if
I could just touch the hem of his
garment.” She just needed a touch.
She didn’t have to be in the public eye,

but Jesus wanted it to be retold
throughout history. A testimony to
retell over and over. When God does
something in your life, that miracle
gains strong roots when you tell it to
people you meet. Revelation 12:11
(KJV): “And they overcame him by the
blood of the Lamb, and by the word of
their testimony.”
Give thanks and acknowledge God for
the miracle. Jesus stopped to
celebrate with the woman who was
healed. Maybe someone else needed
to see the miracle. Maybe they
thought, “if she was healed, I know I
can get my miracle.” When God
answers a prayer through a testimony
someone can receive encouragement
and it’s just another moment to thank
God for all he has done.
Be watchful! Somebody is reaching
out to Jesus looking for the hope that
might just come in their interaction
with you.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - After a
Christmas Day fire in Myrtle Beach
uprooted the lives of nearly 20 people,
one ministry is stepping in.
Sonshine Recovery Ministries is
reaching out to make sure those
impacted by the fire at the Atlantic
Sands motel have a roof over their head
during this difficult time.
“The Sonshine Ministry has a great
relationship with Midtown and Jared
Husk,” said Carter. “Jared has a
reputation in town, so it was common to
pick up the phone and call Jared
because he has one of the biggest
hearts in Myrtle Beach.”
Husk and hotel manager Page Hodge
were able to open Midtown Inn and
Cottages to the families who were
misplaced alongside Sea Gypsy Inn.
“You could see in their eyes that they
were just in shock,” said Hodge. “It was
Christmas Day; you just don’t expect
that, so we got them in some rooms and
got them all comfy. We know we are

able to do more for them over the days,
but we wanted them to feel safe and
secure.”

We Need a Miracle

I recently started reading a book called
The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod. In it,
he talks about 95% of people settling for
less than the best their life could be. It’s
not a Christian book, but a motivational
one on productivity. I am still in the
process of reading it so I don’t know if I
would recommend it, but the first part
of it got me to thinking if I am believing
God for the impossible. Do I have the
kind of faith it takes to believe for the
impossible?
The Bible talks about the God of the
impossible. Ordinary, unworthy people
believing and receiving life changing
miracles. To God, the problems that I
face that seem so big are nothing
difficult at all for Him.
In John 16:24, Jesus says, “Until now you
have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and
you will receive, that your joy may be
full.” It’s so simple, isn’t it? A three
letter word - ASK. If you need a miracle
today, just ASK. Be Blessed! Amy
