Take care of your vision to invest in your
overall health
Springtime is the perfect
time to develop better habits
and improve your health
and wellness. Perhaps that
involves revamping your
workout routine or investing
in a skincare regimen.
As you start to think
about refreshing your body
and soul this spring, be sure
to include a comprehensive
eye exam at the top of your
list.
A normal part of aging
Just like the rest of your
body, your eyes change as
you age, and you may find
it harder to see. You’re not
alone. According to the
World Health Organization
(WHO), more than 2 billion
people around the world
suffer from visual impairment
— and that number is
expected to double by the
year 2030.
While these numbers may
be concerning, take heart.
Many vision conditions
are treatable. A step you
can take today to assess and
preserve your vision — as
well as your health — is to
schedule a comprehensive
eye exam.
Your eyes are windows
into your overall
health and wellness.
An eye care professional
can do much more than assess
your vision. Your eyes
can actually reveal many
details about your overall
health and wellness.
A comprehensive eye
exam can help detect over
270 different medical conditions,
from diabetes to heart
disease.
“Not only can an eye exam
assess the health of your
eye; it can do so much more,
such as providing insight
into your overall health and
well-being as you age,” said
Dr. Christi Closson, associate
director of professional
education/vision for Johnson
& Johnson. “It is critical
for everyone to stay on
top of their vision and eye
health, and make time for
an annual comprehensive
eye exam.”
Presbyopia and cataracts:
Common age-related
vision conditions
If you’re over 40, it’s critical
that you’re aware of
common vision conditions
and their symptoms.

Did you know? Boredom can actually help your child’s
mind grow!
With spring break around the corner
and summer on the holidays,
many parents feel a natural inclination
to fill their children’s days with
activities, often fearing that too much
unstructured playtime will lead to
boredom.
In fact, according to a survey conducted
by Talker Research on behalf
of Kiddie Academy, nearly half (45%)
of all parents feel like they should be
doing more activities with their kids.
However, many experts agree that
children being bored from time to
time may not be a bad thing. In fact,
brain development and many other
outcomes happen when children
have unstructured time to engage in
imaginative, open-ended play
“Boredom will naturally occur with
children at times,” said Joy Turner,
vice president of education at Kiddie
Academy. “Parents shouldn’t put so
much stress on themselves to fill that
space.”
Boredom expands imagination
and creativity.
When children say they’re bored,
parents often default to using screentime
or engaging them in play.
Thirty-four percent of parents surveyed
said they typically play with
their child in this scenario. This can
likely be attributed to 56% of them
reporting that they feel guilty for not
spending enough time with their little
one.
However, when children are left
to explore in their downtime, their
minds can get to work, allowing them
to use their imagination to find creative
ways to entertain themselves.
Parents can facilitate imaginative
play and creative expression by
setting up a craft station, creating a
reading nook and/or providing toys
that allow for open-ended play.
Being bored builds resilience
and tolerance.
Children can often have big feelings
about not having something to
do. This is a parent’s opportunity to
validate and empower their child.
They can say something like, “It’s
okay to be bored. Sometimes I feel
the same way, but now is your chance
to explore and learn what you like
to do!” A phrase like this helps little
ones understand that while feeling
uncomfortable is understandable,
it can be used as an opportunity to
grow and discover new things about
themselves.
Sometimes there isn’t enough time
between scheduled activities for little
ones to engage in exactly what they
want to do. This can be used as an
opportunity to build patience and
tolerance by encouraging children
to move through their feelings with
the understanding that waiting isn’t
always easy, but it’s a necessary part
of life. Remind them of things they
like to do when they’re being patient,
like singing a song or playing with a
small toy.
Independence and social
skills excel through unstructured
time.
When children — even those who
don’t know each other — are put in
close proximity without planned activities,
they often engage with each
other by inventing games. The skills
children develop when they’re free
playing with others include things
like cooperation, communication and
kindness, all of which are essential
for long-term socialization.
At the same time, children who
have to play by themselves often become
more independent. When it’s
up to them to provide their own entertainment,
they engage in a unique
kind of problem solving and creative
expression.
Teaching children to embrace unstructured
moments when they are
without entertainment is crucial to
their maturing psyches. When parents
support their child in this process,
they are sure to see them turn
into more capable and self-sufficient
human beings as a result.

Cost-Efficient Car Detailing at Home
Having your car professionally detailed
is likely to set you back a chunk of
change, but with the right supplies and a
little spare time, you can get similar results
at home.
Whether you’re washing away winter
grime or just giving your ride some overdue
attention, follow these steps to get
your vehicle in tip-top shape.
Assess your vehicle’s condition.
If there’s a specific problem you need to
address, such as stains or excessive insect
buildup on your front bumper, those
are areas you’ll want to focus your time,
energy and budget.
Purchase the necessary supplies.
A car cleaning kit could simplify the
shopping process, but you may need to
supplement with additional items, such
as a spot treater, to achieve the best results.
The essentials include a sturdy
bucket, washing mitt, soft bristle brush,
soft rags, a dust rag, automotive soap,
glass cleaner, a vinyl or interior-safe
cleanser, vacuum and wax, if you wish.
Empty the vehicle. Removing all
your personal possessions provides a
blank slate for cleaning and prevents you
from having to work around or worry
about damaging your belongings. Also
remove any elements of the vehicle you
may want to clean separately, such as
floor mats, console inserts and other removable
pieces.
Tackle the interior. Start by removing
debris from crevices and wiping away
dust and other gunk. Then, with the initial
layer of mess removed, go back and
wipe down all surfaces using a cleanser.
You can also clean the interior windows
at this stage, and be sure to wipe down
the console, especially if you have a
touchscreen that is covered with fingerprints.
Vacuum thoroughly. Using a small
vacuum or hose with strong suction, pay
special attention to high-traffic areas
and spaces where trash and debris tend
to settle, such as between the seat and
console. The floorboards will likely need
the most attention, but don’t overlook
the seats, and especially the area where
the seat and back meet, as this crevice
can trap a great deal of dirt.
Clean the floor mats. Chances are
good your floor mats rival the exterior
for the dirt and grime they accumulate.
Depending on how heavily soiled they
are, and especially if they’re carpet-style
mats, you may want to shampoo them
after a deep vacuuming to remove stubborn
stains.
Return belongings to the interior.
Before you add everything back into
your vehicle, take time to wipe down
items and sort out any unnecessary clutter.
It’s a good time to reorganize your
storage areas to be sure the items you use
frequently are in easy reach. You can also
replenish supplies such as facial tissue
and hand sanitizer.
Wash the exterior. Follow the instructions
on the product’s label to wash
your automobile’s exterior. Pay attention
to special requirements such as allowing
time for a bug remover to soak. In
general, start with a rinse, followed by
scrubbing with a mitt and then an allover
rinse. Use a chamois towel or other
drying cloth to avoid water spots.
Add finishing touches. If you’re
using wax or planning on specialty
treatments like tire cleaning, those will
be among your final steps. Last but not
least, clean the exterior windows with
glass cleaner to remove streaks and leave
them sparkling.

Meet Natalie! This sweet girl is
in a bonded pair with her sister
Dixie. They are both fully potty and
crate trained in a home. Both girls
have a medium energy level, love
to play with people and other dogs
but also enjoy relaxing. The girls
keep each other entertained! They
love to play with their toys and are
full of goofy sisterly antics. When
not playing, they are usually calm
and quiet. Both adore affection,
though Natalie will often nudge
Dixie aside for extra pets. They
would make any house a home.

for flower enthusiasts and photographers alike. One of the earliest signs of spring is the
blooming of the white and pink camellias, which can be spotted as early as late December and
through early January. The campus walkways and green spaces are then painted in shades of
pink and white as the azaleas come into bloom around mid to late February. Be sure to catch
the vibrant colors of the purple lily magnolia (magnolia liliiflora ‘nigra’) that blooms near the
Gazebo at Greek Park. Other blooms and beauty include Walter’s viburnum, loropetalum, Florida
sunshine anise, saucer magnolias, Taiwan cherries, Carolina yellow jessamine, and native red
maple.

Changing times, changing spaces:
What the office should look like today
Remote work is on the decline. Today, more large companies are
for remote positions have decreased, and now new research shows the
pandemic-driven work-from-home era may be over.
The most recent Labor Department study shows nearly 75% of
businesses reported their employees rarely or did not engage in
teleworking last year, equating to 21 million more people working from
work full-time in 2022 compared to 2021. Interestingly, the number of
employers reporting teleworking is now similar to pre-COVID levels.
and how it functions will be different in this new post-pandemic era of
workplace.
Ergonomics edge
health, productivity and performance. In fact, a large university study
showed that ergonomic workstations reduced lost workdays by 75%. For
ergonomic upgrades.
Hoteling
With this desking approach, team members forgo a permanent
workspace and claim a workstation as they need it. Perfect for teams
the company can grow. Plus, employees may enjoy a feeling of greater
autonomy with this setup.
Casual meeting spaces
Including a variety of informal, non-bookable collab spaces can help
foster relationship-building and idea sharing (without the formality of
scheduling a meeting and reserving a conference room). Repurposing an
employee lounge or outdoor break area into a huddle zone to use during
off hours can be a solid start. Finding open space to add a small grouping
of chairs and a coffee table in each department is another common
approach.
Thoughtful concentration areas
it should not overshadow the need for thoughtful concentration areas
where team members can perform independent tasks with more privacy
and enhanced ability to focus. Balancing collaboration space with
concentration space gives employees the opportunity to choose how they
work so they can be most effective.
In fact, some of the latest research shows that people are looking to the

Harness the Power of Walking
Benefits of being physically active
A walk isn’t just good for your body;
it’s a simple, powerful way to care for
your mind and soul. Physical activity,
like walking, reduces stress, boosts
mood and promotes overall well-being.
Yet physical activity levels in the United
States continue to decline, a trend
threatening both mental and physical
health.
Less than half of adults and fewer
than 1 in 5 children in the U.S. get the
recommended amount of physical activity
needed for heart health, according
to the American Heart Association’s
2025 Heart & Stroke Statistical Update.
National recommendations call for
children to get at least one hour of physical
activity each day, but the latest statistics
show less than 19% of children in
the U.S. achieve that target. Meanwhile,
less than half of adults get the recommended
150 minutes or more of weekly
physical activity.
What’s more, according to data from
a National Health and Nutrition Examination
Survey, 1 in 4 U.S. adults sits
for longer than eight hours each day,
which can have negative consequences
on physical and mental health.

For decades, the American Heart Association
has championed the importance
of physical activity in communities
across the country through events
like National Walking Day on Wednesday,
April 2. These tips and information
can help you understand how a brisk
walk can make a world of difference for
heart health and mental clarity.
Benefits of Physical
Activity
Staying active is one of the best ways
to keep your mind and body healthy.
The physical health benefits may be
obvious, but research suggests physical
activity can also help bring more
joy to your life. According to the 2019
Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans,
people who get the recommended
amount of physical activity are less
likely to experience depression.
Regular physical activity enhances
your mood, sharpens your mind, improves
sleep and boosts overall well-being,
all while reducing the risk of disease
and depression and increasing both the
quality and longevity of life.
How to Be More Physically
Active
Exercise as simple as a brisk walk can
put a major spring in your step. It can
even energize you to finish other tasks
at hand, whether it’s cooking or running
errands. Give your daily physical activity
level a boost with these tips:
Exercising outdoors is a great way to
get moving. Spending time outdoors
has been shown to reduce stress,
promote a sense of belonging and
improve mood. It’s even better if
you can enjoy the sunshine outside,
which can improve mood, boost your
immunity and help you get some vitamin
D.
Invite a family member or friend
along with you. It’s good for them,
it’s good for you and it’s good company
all around.
Instead of wondering if you’ll move
today, explore how you’ll move. A
walk, a dance, or a stretch all count.
Getting Pets Involved
Pets are part of your family, and they
can help you get healthy together. Pets
provide a fun reason to spend more time
outside and get the exercise needed to
reduce the risk of disease later in life.
Getting moving along with your pet
adds more exercise to your routine,
which means living longer, reducing risk
of dying from heart attack or stroke, reducing
risk of diabetes, reducing stress
and even boosting your overall happiness
and well-being.
Exercising with your pet can also
mean enjoying more socializing. You
may find yourself meeting other dog
owners in your area on a walk or at
the dog park.
Learn more about how simple
habits like walking can support your
overall health at heart.org/Move-
More.

To play Sudoku, fill a 9x9 grid with numbers
1-9 so that each row, column, and 3x3
subgrid contains every number only once,
using logic to determine where each
number goes based on the partially filled
grid at the start; essentially, no number can
repeat within a row, column, or 3x3 block.
