Robot System Operations and Simulation

The Robot System Operations and Simulation course

prepares participants to operate industrial robots and

Industry 4.0 technologies, focusing on FANUC HandlingTool

and RoboGuide simulation software. Ideal for manufacturing

technicians, engineers, and IT professionals, it covers

program setup, testing, production refinement, and creating

virtual work cells in RoboGuide. Training includes lectures,

demonstrations, lab exercises, and pre-/post-tests.

Graduates will understand robotic safety practices, operate

Bookkeeping Specialist Certificate

A career in bookkeeping allows you to work in many

different kinds of businesses. This certificate course covers

both manual and computerized accounting and includes

Accounting Level 1 & 2 and QuickBooks Online. The accounting

portion of the class includes analyzing and recording journal

entries, end-of-month adjustment, preparing and analyzing

Anytime 20-Hour Medication Manager :

The purpose of this course is to prepare individuals to safely

medications in a Residential Care Facility of 15 or fewer beds,

Changes in family structure through dissolution of

marriage, custody modification, and remarriage are difficult

experiences for a child. Children in the Middle is a four-hour,

Self Protection: Shuhari Seishin Ryu Karate

This class is intended for the average non-martial artist who

is interested in basic personal safety and self-protection.

The primary focus of the class is aimed towards making

individuals aware of different types of violence while giving

them basic tools to avoid, de-escalate, deter, and escape such

encounters. Portions of the class will be hands on. A partner

Introduction to Construction Trades

In partnership with WE Build Waterloo (Hawkeye Community

College and Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity), this

program provides students with foundational construction

trade skills. It covers job site safety, OSHA 10 certification,

construction math, hand and power tools, and reading

construction drawings. An elective in basic rigging is also

offered. The program emphasizes communication, problemsolving,

and materials handling safety. Graduates earn

certifications in NCCER Core Curriculum, Construction

Safety, and OSHA 10, preparing them for further education in

This summer camp is designed to introduce high school

students with a minimum age of 14 years old at the start of the

camp to careers within the construction industry. Camp will

include class time which includes but not limited to precision

a step stool. We will also visit construction sites, meet with

industry professionals from multiple different construction

Advanced school bus training will enhance your driving

skills to the next level. Whether you are looking for a new

occupation or want to experience the great feeling of helping

people get to their desired destinations, this course is for

you. Using an actual school bus and driving simulators you will

obtain the skills to drive a bus in all types of situations. During

this course you will learn to drive a school bus in many rural

and urban situations. You will learn to maneuver, the school

bus around corners, over railroad tracks, through backing

exercises, and many other real-life experiences that occur

while driving. You will complete this class with the confidence

of driving a full-length bus with hands-on experiences under

the direction of experienced bus drivers. Class will conclude

with the confidence to pass DOT tests and obtain a bus driving

position. This course is much more than your average training.

You will actually be driving in a variety of “real life situations.”

Note: You must have your school bus permit which will allow

you to drive on the roadway, as well as your school bus and

passenger DOT written tests.

Class A Commercial Driver’s License Certificate

(CDL)

Looking to start a career in one of the fastest growing

occupations? Hawkeye’s Class A Commercial Driver’s License

(CDL) training program is designed for adults who would like to

train for a high-demand career in a short-term time frame. We

train on 10 speeds and automatics. The program focuses on

developing safe driving skills including backing, turning, and

driving on rural and suburban roads. You will receive handson

training using full-size semi-tractor/trailers and virtual

driving simulators. You must become proficient in every skill

before testing. As soon as proficiency tasks are met 2 times

without instruction, you may test. You have up to 6 weeks to

become proficient. Upon being proficient, you will take your

DOT vehicle inspection, skills, and driving tests at Hawkeye to

obtain your Class A CDL. You will receive daily training on your

schedule, choose your times: morning 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.,

and/or afternoon 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and/or evening 5:00

p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Graduates can find employment in a variety

of areas including, but not limited to, a truck driver, spotter,

shag driver, and many more. There are many steps before you

Driver’s Education

Hawkeye’s High School Driver Education Program is designed

to help the beginner driver develop the knowledge, skill and

attitude necessary to become a safe, responsible driver.

Hawkeye Community College provides 30 hours of classroom

instruction, 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction,

and 6 hours of in-car practicum. This program meets the

requirements of the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT)

and Motor Vehicles Division (DMV) for individuals to obtain a

graduated driver’s license (GDL). The student will be required

to be proficient in their driving at the end of our course or

will be required to drive with the DOT to get their license.

Students must have the ability to schedule after-school and

week-end driving times, and they must bring their permit to

every class. The student must have a minimum of 10 hours of

driving time before the class begins. Attendance is required

for ALL sessions. No exceptions. Students must have an Iowa

driver’s permit before enrolling. Fee can be waived or reduced

for students who qualify in the Waterloo Community School

District. Mandatory Zoom Orientation will be held for parent/

legal guardian and student, notification of day and time will be

sent after registration completion.

48-Hour OWI Weekend

This class is for those that were arrested for an OWI, and are

currently over the age of 18. The class is either required by the

courts or used in place of 48 hours jail time. It does include the

requirements of the Department of Transportation. Check-in

will be between 4:30pm & 5:30pm on Friday. You will not be

allowed in if you arrive after 5:30pm. Please review the rules

Recreational Vehicle

Motorcycle: Basic Rider Course

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Basic Rider Course

is a learn-to-ride education and training safety program that

consists of the online MSF Basic eCourse to address basic

motorcycle knowledge, five hours of classroom instruction

with a RiderCoach to address rider perception and risk

management, and 10 hours of on-cycle, hands-on instruction.

Motorcycles are provided for use during the course. Prior to

the first day of class you will need to read the Rider Handbook

and complete the eCourse online. Price of the eCourse is

included and student will receive an email two weeks before

the class start date with a redemption code. Riders must be

able to balance a bicycle to participate in the riding portion

of the course and successfully complete a riding skills test.

This course does have a written and a riding skills test.

Successful completion of BOTH tests is required to receive a

DOT certificate of completion. A course completion card may

provide an insurance discount. This course is required by Iowa

law to obtain a motorcycle operator’s license for all residents

under the age of 18. If you are a minor, you must have a valid

driver’s permit and you must have written consent from your

parent or guardian at time of registration. If under age of 18,

Parent must register child in person, at Hawkeye’s Cedar Falls

Center.

Note: Fee for all sections is $179. All class sections meet at

Regional Transportation Training Center for 3 sessions.

Motorcycle: 3-Wheel Basic Rider Course

If you are a new rider and you want to learn how to ride a

3-wheel motorcycle - this course is for you! This course

includes four hours of classroom activities and up to eight

hours of on-cycle riding exercises. You must pass a knowledge

and skill test for successful completion. May lead to license

waiver. You must pass a knowledge and skills test for

Moped Safety

Gain the understanding and skills to become a safe and

responsible moped driver in just six hours of classroom

instruction. Classroom instruction includes operator and

moped preparation, basic control skills, safe riding practices,

how to handle complex situations, and moped care. This

course does not include hands-on moped instruction.

This course meets Iowa Department of Transportation

requirements to obtain a moped license at 14. All students

must be at least 13 1/2 years of age to take this class.

General Information and Policies

Office Hours The Business and Community Education office is located at

the Cedar Falls Center, 5330 Nordic Drive, Cedar Falls. The office is open

Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Enrollment Pre-registration required. Register through Hawkeye Business

and Community Education prior to class start. Payment is required at the

time of registration. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

You are officially enrolled once we receive your completed registration

form and payment. Please register early!

Children in Class Children are not allowed in class, unless noted in the class

description or the class is designed for children (ex. kid’s camp).

Evaluation Forms We value and encourage your input at any time.

Evaluations are distributed at the end of the class.

Refunds Refunds will be issued to learners who withdraw at least two

business days prior to class start date, however, there are class exceptions.

Please review your class confirmation for the refund policy specific to

your class.

Tobacco Use Smoking and the use of all forms of tobacco are banned on

all college property. Hawkeye considers it in the best interest of the college

to provide a tobacco-free environment in public education facilities for

students, employees, and visitors. All individuals are prohibited from using

tobacco inside any college-owned or leased building or vehicle, or on

college grounds.

TECHNICAL PROGRAM POLICIES

Applying Credits to a Technical Program at Hawkeye

If it is determined that the course(s) taken are similar in course content

to a required course in one of Hawkeye’s technical programs, a copy of

your transcript will be submitted to the respective Hawkeye academic

department for evaluation. It is the department’s discretion to accept or not

accept the credit for the program.

Student Conduct

Hawkeye Community College students are expected to obey federal, state

and local laws and regulations; show respect for properly constituted

authority; and exhibit and maintain integrity and honor in all matters related

to Hawkeye. Student behavior which, after due process, is found to be

disruptive to classes, which interferes with the rights of others or which

damages property, may result in probation or suspension from Hawkeye.

Each student shall be expected to behave in a mature, adult manner. At all

times, the rights of all students and Hawkeye personnel must be the

primary consideration.

HIGH SCHOOL COMPLETION

The High School Completion Program offers standards-based

instruction to prepare students for a High School Equivalency

diploma and to improve their basic skills in reading, writing, and

mathematics. In addition, digital literacy, financial literacy, and

transition to college assistance are components of the program.

Punctual and regular attendance is necessary for success.

Students have the option of attending all classes remotely.

The High School Completion Program offers three pathways to

earn a High School Equivalency Diploma. Students can enroll in

the HiSET pathway, the High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED)

by Credit pathway, or the HSED by Foreign Postsecondary degree

High School Completion students must:

• Attend a two-hour orientation

• Schedule an assessment

• Attend class during the first week

ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING (ELL)

Adult Language

English language instruction assists individuals of limited

English proficiency to learn the English language. Students are

required to register and take an entry assessment to determine

the appropriate class level. ELL classes are available in seven

different levels. Classes meet at the Van G. Miller Adult Learning

Center, 120 Jefferson Street, Waterloo.

Punctual and regular attendance is absolutely necessary for

success. Students, please be on time and attend class every

day! Students have the option of attending classes remotely.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING CLASS – FREE

English Language Learning students must:

• complete the registration application

• schedule a time for a free, three-hour assessment

• take an assessment before beginning class

• attend class during the first week

• pay a $33 textbook fee the first week of class

Assessment (3 hours)

Appointments will be made at registration (students must

register and complete an assessment before they will be

enrolled in class). Due to high demand for classes, students may

be put on a waiting list.

INTEGRATED EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Students who are enrolled in the English Language Learning

(ELL) or High School Completion (HSC) programs at the Adult

Learning Center who have qualifying test scores can apply to

take a free Integrated Education and Training (IET) class. We

offer Hospitality Managements I-BEST, Computer Technology

Skills, and Basic Construction Skills IELCE (ELL only). We also

offer Computer Numerical Control (CNC) I-BEST, Certified

Nursing Assistant (CNA) I-BEST, and Child Health, Safety, and

Nutrition (IELCE). Register for ELL or HSC to qualify.

FAMILY LITERACY – FREE

Parents enrolled in Hawkeye’s High School Completion Program

or English Language Learning Program with a child 18 or

younger living at home may register for the Family Literacy

Program (FLP). The FLP provides programming for parents

who seek to strengthen their role as their child’s first teacher

as well as free children’s books and materials, and one-on-one

assistance to parents interested in transferring to college credit
