A letter from
CanPrev founder,
Tanya Salituro
Like so many of
you, my health
journey began
with frustration
and a longing for
affordable natural
solutions that
truly worked.
Dear Reader,
For twenty years, CanPrev has been a living commitment to Canadians – to empower them to
take ownership of their health journey, and to provide them with the tools and support they
need to live healthier, more fulfilling lives.
But as I reflect on this lifelong journey, it’s really because of you that this commitment that is
CanPrev has become a reality. This milestone belongs to all of you – supportive friends, trusted
partners, loyal customers, passionate employees. And my heart overflows with gratitude.
This journey belongs to the kindly ‘Heilpraktiker’ (healing practitioner) I visited as a child with
my family in Germany, who introduced me to the world of natural health.
It belongs to all of the survivors I met through the Canadian Cancer Society. Their stories and
experience helped me get through my initial cancer diagnosis at the age of 21 – as well as the
subsequent surgeries and 25 rounds of radiation.
It belongs to my friends and naturopathic doctors who helped me explore natural approaches
when the familiar twinges of pain of cancer (confirmed by an excruciating needle biopsy) came
back a decade later. And when I realized the natural health products I needed didn’t yet exist,
they helped me bring them to life.
It belongs to my husband, Franco, who understood my heart-led drive to give to other Canadians
what my support circle had given me, and vowed to make it happen. We didn’t know what it
would look like when we made this pact, but when the time came to turn the crazy idea that
was CanPrev into reality, we were in sync 150% of the way. We were committed to giving back
the gift of natural health to Canadians.
It belongs to the scrappy first employees who shared our vision, who in our first tiny rented
space, huddled with us over patio tables and slept under them in sleeping bags. It belongs to
the latest employees who joined, who never let us forget what we stand for, no matter how
big we became.
It belongs to our retailers and practitioners who gave our natural health products a chance
to prove themselves to their customers and patients, from the earliest days with our first 13
products, to now with a growing portfolio of over 200.
And this journey belongs to you, dear reader, who brought CanPrev into your home and made
our health journey a part of yours.
Even as I look to the future, I will always remember that our mission is a shared one – a testament
to the power of community and the impact of taking ownership of our health.
Thank you for being part of this story. We couldn’t have done it without you.
With heartfelt gratitude,

After years of suffering with
horrible cramps which included
stabbing pains in my belly, lower
back, and pain in my legs, I
researched that magnesium was
supposed to help with cramps
and muscular pain. I started
taking 1 capsule of Can Prev’s 200
mg Magnesium Bis-Glycinate
a day and noticed that within a
couple cycles my back and leg
pain were almost non-existent
and the cramping lessened 80%.
I used to suffer greatly with
my periods and now I don’t.

The climb continues
As we reflect on CanPrev’s magnesium legacy,
one thing is certain– the climb continues. Every
new formula, every milestone reached, pushes
us further towards our goal of empowering you
to feel your best. The summit may be ahead, but
the journey itself is what inspires us every day.

ood night.
Sleep right.
Once upon a time, in a room dim and still,
I slipped beneath blankets, escaping the chill.
Eyes closed, a deep breath, I let out a sigh,
Hoping the weight of the day would pass by.
But just as I began to float away,
my brain decided it’s showtime, much to my dismay!
Thoughts of emails unsent and laundry to do,
and then the “Sunday Scaries” join the queue.
I toss, I turn, I flip the pillow–still awake.
Why can’t I just fall asleep for goodness sake?
I grumble, glaring at the ceiling as if
it holds the secret to my slumber.
Annoyed, impatient, with every ticking number.
We’ve all been there, nights drag on,
frustration mounting as we near the crack of dawn.
Sleep doesn’t always come easy, that’s clear to see,
But there are steps we can take, you and me.
So let’s dim the lights on this sleepless plight,
And embark on a journey to a restful night.
With a healthy routine and supplements that are just right,
We’ll find peace and dreams in the quiet of night.

Why is sleep important?
Sleep affects everything from our cognitive health and
emotional regulation to immune function and healing.
Healthy sleep also helps to stave off conditions like stroke,
heart disease, diabetes and more. Without enough sleep, the
brain has a hard time processing new information, making
memories and regulating our mood. Good sleep habits lay the
foundation for our well-being, no matter our age.

STRESS
THE INSIDE
STORY
Stress is your body's way of helping you face challenges,
be it work deadlines or personal conflict. It activates within
us a "fight, flight, freeze or fawn" response.
Fight and flight responses are triggered by a rush of
adrenaline and cortisol, increasing energy and alertness
by raising blood sugar and suppressing non-essential
functions like the immune system. Freeze and fawn
responses are behaviourally driven. Freeze releases
neurotransmitters and endorphins that numb us in
overwhelming situations. Fawn, influenced by oxytocin,
eases tension by appeasing others.
All very helpful. But if constant stress keeps us locked
into these responses, it can strain the body, disturb sleep,
and disrupt digestion, immunity and more. Managing this
stress not only keeps you more balanced now, but protects
your health long-term.
Stress vs anxiety
Understanding the difference between stress and anxiety
can help you manage emotions better and find the right
solutions for your mental and physical well-being.
Stress is a response to an external challenge, like a
deadline or financial concern, and typically fades once
the issue is resolved. It can be motivating in small doses,
but chronic stress can harm your health over time.
Anxiety tends to linger even without a clear cause. It’s a
persistent feeling of worry or unease that can interfere
with daily life. Unlike stress, anxiety often sticks around
long after the initial trigger is gone.

When stress hits—whether from real danger
or daily challenges—your body reacts with
“fight, flight, freeze or fawn,” each impacting the
mind and body in distinct ways. Understanding
these responses can help you manage symptoms
before they become long-term issues.
Fight response: You may feel heightened
irritability or respond with verbal or physical
confrontations, along with symptoms like
increased heart rate, rapid breathing, muscle
tension and elevated blood pressure.
Flight response: This can lead to restlessness
or avoidance, often causing sweating, nausea,
dizziness or dry mouth.
Freeze response: You might feel “stuck” or
disconnected, struggling with tunnel vision,
numbness, shallow breathing and difficulty
communicating.
Fawn response: This response involves peoplepleasing
driven by fear, leading to self-neglect,
lack of boundaries and sometimes even physical
symptoms like gastrointestinal issues.
Take three deep breaths, in through
your nose, out through your mouth.
This calms your autonomic nervous
system, which controls heart rate
and breathing.
Talk yourself down
Put the stressor into perspective. Tell
yourself, "I can handle this." Focus on
what you can control, breathe deep
and tackle it one step at a time.
Morning light
Boost your dopamine levels first thing
in the morning with sunlight or an LED
lightbox. This increases the feel-good
brain chemical that lifts motivation
and energy.
Gratitude
Write down things you're thankful
for. This can boost your well-being
by shifting your focus from fear to
positivity, activating brain circuits for
positive interactions, improved mental
health and overall happiness.

An
ancient
root for
modern
resilience.
Ashwagandha has been a staple of Ayurvedic medicine
for over 3,000 years. Its name comes from the Sanskrit words
"ashva" (horse) and "gandha" (smell), symbolizing its distinct
aroma and the belief that it imparts the strength of a horse.
Historically valued by royalty and warriors for enhancing
stamina, it was also used for fertility and longevity.
Ashwagandha's versatility is truly impressive, supporting
stress management, energy metabolism, immune health
and more. Today, we trust this ancient herb to help us find
balance and vitality in modern life.
Stress: Ashwagandha is renowned for its
ability to help regulate levels of the stress
hormone cortisol. This balance is essential for
supporting neurotransmitter function that
can promote emotional well-being.
Cognitive health: Incorporating ashwagandha
into your routine can have you thinking more
clearly and tackling tasks more effectively. It
offers neuroprotective benefits that enhance
connections between brain cells, helping to
improve memory, focus and mental clarity.
Energy: T3 and T4 are thyroid hormones that
are essential for regulating energy levels and
maintaining mood stability. Ashwagandha
supports healthy thyroid function which can
help you feel more energized.
Inflammation: The withanolides found in
ashwagandha have natural anti-inflammatory
properties, making them effective in reducing
pain and aiding recovery. It can relieve soreness
from physical activity, discomfort from PMS
and more.
Ashwagandha Body & Mind: Formulated with
KSM-66 ® , clinically proven to help increase
energy, improve sleep quality and support
libido. As a powerful adaptogen, it also helps
boost resistance to stress.
Sexual health: By regulating the HPA
(hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal) axis and
reducing cortisol levels, ashwagandha can
enhance sexual desire and arousal while also
supporting increased lubrication, blood flow
and improved sexual satisfaction.

Jill Bunny’s health journey is far from ordinary. As a fractional Chief
Marketing Officer for integrative and functional medicine practices, she’s
built a career that reflects her personal values of healing and holistic
health. But her path to wellness hasn’t been easy. Jill faced life-altering
challenges, including a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) and cancer.
Yet, through resilience, self-discovery and a commitment to personal
growth, she’s learned to navigate her health journey on her own terms. In
this candid Q&A, Jill shares her inspiring story of overcoming hardships
and what good health means to her. If you’ve ever felt lost or uncertain
with your own health journey, her story offers valuable insights and
practical advice that can inspire lasting change.
From struggle to strength:
Jill Bunny’s
inspiring journey
I was living the
high life, and it
was amazing–
until it wasn’t.
We know bodybuilding played a big role in
your transformation after some tough times.
Can you share what led to that shift and how
fitness became your focus?
JB:
So my fitness journey in bodybuilding
started with a complete transformation.
So let’s backtrack a bit for some context. When
you’re 25 and you get divorced, it’s brutal. I had
no relationship, no job, no home… thinking, “I’m
having a midlife crisis at 25, and I have to figure out
what I’m going to do.” At that age, I didn’t have the
intellectual abilities to really deal with what I was
going through, so it was easier to avoid it and just
put my love into a sport. I thought, “I’m going to
invest 24 hours a day and be a fitness competitor,”
because that way, I could avoid everything else. So I
did that. And I did very, very well.
How did competing in the fitness world shape
your life?
Looking back, it allowed me to avoid a lot of pain,
and that just became my life. I felt valued. I got
validated. It was a high. I had friends. I was loved.
That’s probably superficial love looking back,
but I was loved and also made a career from it.
I had brand partnerships, I ran my online health
coaching business, and I got to travel the world. So
from the ages of 25 to 30, I was living the high life.
And it was amazing, until it wasn’t.
16 17
And you had your thyroid removed. What was
the hardest part of that?
So when they removed my thyroid, my TSH levels
skyrocketed to 15.6. For perspective, most people
are around 0.4 to 4.0, so at that point, I was in severe
hypothyroidism. I felt like I was losing my mind. I was
depressed, I couldn’t get out of bed, and I gained 50
pounds. For someone who was a fitness competitor,
going up to 165 felt diabolical. I felt crazy.
When you were struggling with depression, what
helped you find the strength to push through
those darkest moments?
The only person that can really fix it is yourself. But
when you’re broken, how do you find the power and
that strength to do something about it? When you’re
depressed, it is so hard to even shower. Those little
things can be the most difficult to do. It’s really hard
to be motivated and find that resiliency, that hope.
How did living with MS shift your approach to
health and fitness, and what made you turn to
naturopathic care?
When it comes to emotional and mental health, you
have to have the skills. I knew that I had to develop those
skills because I couldn’t just mask it with medication.
I don’t look like I’m disabled, so I like to describe MS
like having really crappy Wi-Fi. My body doesn’t do
what I want it to. I had no choice but to respect that,
so I went for walks and let go of pushing myself too
hard. I then had to lose 50 pounds, so that’s when I
started a naturopathic approach. It’s been nine years
and I’ve been able to keep the weight off.
What inspired you to turn to cognitive
behavioural therapy (CBT), and how did it shape
your journey toward mental wellness?
My parents are science teachers, so they’re very
logical, and there’s always a solution. I wanted a logical
answer to what I was going through. When it comes to
autoimmune issues, the body is breaking down, but the
brain can be a big component for healing.
When did you first realize something wasn’t
right with your health, and how did you start
to face it?
I instinctively knew something wasn’t right in my
body. For years I was so exhausted. Looking back,
it was probably 15 years in the making, but I just
told myself, “You’re training so hard, this is normal”.
But no, you shouldn’t feel like it’s painful to get up
or even think. It was like being underwater and you
can’t get out.
I attributed it all to competing, until speaking to
other competitors. I’m so tired, yet they can still go
till 8:00 p.m. and have a social life-why is it so hard
for me? Then, my vision started to decline. So that
was the catalyst. They found degeneration in my
eye, which led to months of testing—MRIs, spinal
taps—you name it.
My grandma has MS, so when I sat down with the
doctors, I had a feeling. And that’s what they told me:
M.S. I remember thinking, Okay, this explains how
I’ve been feeling, but I still didn’t want to accept it.
So I continued to compete for six more months, but
eventually realized that I couldn’t keep doing this.
And then, just a few months later, I went in for a
routine checkup. I had no symptoms of a thyroid
issue, but the tests came back–and it was cancer.
At 30, I had MS and thyroid cancer. That’s not good.
I don’t look like
I’m disabled, so I
like to describe MS
like having really
crappy Wi-Fi. My
body doesn’t do what
I want it to do.
Even though the brain is not a muscle, I decided to
train it like one, and that’s what led me to CBT. I had to
rewire my brain. I had to do the hard work of rewiring
my negative thoughts, correcting the distortions in
my head and finding a way to be motivated. I had
this thought: if my "roommate" in my head was a
real person treating me this badly, I'd kick them out
of my life. So I did something about it. I spent three
years becoming a therapist, just to train my inner
"roommate" to be a better person.
I take myself back
to a moment where
I was happy and know
I will persevere.
Neuroplasticity does work—you can retrain a muscle,
and you can retrain your brain to think better. There’s
nothing sexy about therapy, but it helps, and there
are so many ways to do it. It doesn’t mean you have
to lie on a couch like Freudian theory. You can have a
beautiful body but a terrible brain.
What helped you push through when things felt
completely overwhelming?
One of the key factors that really helped me was
having a support system. We can’t do it alone. But
oftentimes, we try to rely on that one person to
be everything, and they can’t. That was one of the
biggest lessons in my healing journey—my husband
can’t be everything. Same with doctors; they can’t
be everything. I had to build my team and get those
little things from each person that they’re best at to
help me heal. So, get support, get it from multiple
people, and don’t expect anyone to be everything
for you.
Also, when I’m in a good mood, I write a letter to
myself and say, “I know that this is going to be hard...
what you’re going through feels insurmountable, but I
know you can get through it because you’re strong and
you’re beautiful.” So, I take myself back to a moment
where I was happy and know I will persevere.
What message would you share with others who
might be feeling stuck or struggling with their
health?
Whatever you choose to do, whatever decisions
you make, there will be a reason why you did that,
and everything will be okay. So, one message that
I would love to give to all Canadians is this: if you
don’t feel right, you don’t have to live in that body.
You have the ability to go and do something about
it. No matter how hard it is, you don’t have to live a
life that isn’t optimal or isn’t what you want.

Tend to
the garden
inside you.
Tips to help your
gut garden grow.
Your microbiome:
The garden of gut health
Imagine your gut as a vibrant garden, teeming with all kinds of
tiny beings — viruses, fungi, archaea, protozoa, and bacteria.
Your microbiome is home to a bustling community of friendly
bacteria each of them with their own roles and responsibilities.
Within this thriving garden, probiotics stand out as essential
caretakers. These beneficial microbes support digestion and play
a crucial role in maintaining a healthy mood, balanced hormones,
robust immunity, and more.
Planting seeds
Like seeds planted in fertile soil, probiotics take root in your
gut. To reap their benefits, they require nurturing to culture,
grow, and multiply.
Probiotic strains are the specific types of beneficial bacteria
that populate your digestive tract, each with its own unique
characteristics and benefits. Some strains, such as Lactobacillus
and Bifidobacterium, are well-known for their digestion and
immune support. Others, like Saccharomyces boulardii, are
beneficial yeasts that help maintain intestinal balance and
support healthy bowel movements.
Prepare the soil:
The gut environment must be conducive for probiotics
to thrive. Maintaining a balanced diet, managing
stress, and staying active help create a fertile ground
for beneficial bacteria.
Select your seeds:
Depending on your gardening goals, you can sow a
diverse mix of probiotic strains for comprehensive
support or plant a specific strain to address targeted
concerns. When choosing a supplement, always
check the CFU (colony-forming units) count to
ensure you're getting enough beneficial bacteria to
make a difference.
Consider planting techniques:
Just as different plants require different planting
techniques, different probiotic delivery methods suit
different individuals. Capsules, powders, and even
fermented foods all offer unique benefits, so choose
one that aligns with your preferences and lifestyle.
Growing with your microbiome:
As you go through life from birth to adulthood, your
gut microbiome changes with you. The changes
in your body impact, and are impacted by your gut
bacteria. Alongside these natural changes, lifestyle
factors such as diet, stress levels and exercise also
shape your gut health. Tune into your body’s changing
needs to help cultivate a healthy microbiome through
each phase of life.

Your gut is as unique as you are, which

The
FASCINATING
nature of
FUNGI
For centuries, mushrooms have been cherished
for their amazing health benefits. From boosting
the immune system to supporting heart health
and fighting inflammation, fabulous fungi have
been our natural health allies for thousands of
years. In fact, evidence of medicinal mushroom
use dates back to ancient China, Egypt and even
Ötzi the Iceman—a 5000 year-old mummy
found with medicinal mushrooms in his travel
kit! And today, modern science is backing it up.
So, what's their secret?

The science behind the spores
Mycology is the study of fungi, which includes
yeast, mold and mushrooms. One fascinating
area of mycology is myotherapy, which
explores how the natural power of mushrooms
can support health and vitality. With their
rich blend of bioactive compounds like betaglucans,
antioxidants and polysaccharides,
incorporating mushrooms into your daily
routine can strengthen the immune system,
boost energy and restore balance in the body.
Immunity
It turns out many mushrooms are packed with
something called fungal beta-glucans. When
you munch on mushrooms, the beta‐glucans
send signals to your macrophages, a type of
white blood cell that play a key role in immune
health. They detect and destroy harmful
microbes, clear out dead cells and activate
other immune defenders.
Stress
Some mushrooms are classified as adaptogens,
meaning they help the body adapt to stress.
Active compounds such as beta-glucans and
triterpenes interact with the nervous system
and adrenal glands to regulate cortisol, the
primary stress hormone. This helps keep levels
from spiking under stress, promoting a calmer,
more stable mood.

FUN GI FACT
The largest living organism
on Earth is an 8600-yearold
honey mushroom in
Oregon. It spans 2300
acres and weighs up to
35 000 tonnes!
Since the compounds in mushrooms have
stress-relieving properties, this also means
that they help regulate sleep. For example,
Reishi is renowned for reducing anxiety and
promoting relaxation, making it easier to fall
asleep faster. Medicinal mushrooms also
help support circadian rhythms by promoting
balanced melatonin production, making it
easier to maintain a regular sleep schedule.
This can lead to more restful nights and better
overall sleep quality.

Collagen that
fits just right.
When it comes to collagen, precision
matters. That’s why not just any key
will do. CanPrev’s collagen peptides
are precisely sized and sequenced to
target and enhance collagen production
where our body needs it the most.
Collagen Beauty Featuring bioactive
collagen peptides sized at 2kDa which
stimulate collagen synthesis directly
at the skin. Clinically proven to reduce
wrinkles in 28 days.
with
collagen.
Just as the right key fits into a specific lock, collagen peptides of
a certain size and sequence act as the perfect match to activate
collagen receptors in targeted areas of our body.
But what are peptides anyway? Amino acids are the building
blocks of protein and peptides are strands of these amino acids.
Peptides play a crucial role in facilitating collagen production
in specific tissues. They do this by binding to receptors on
fibroblast cells, signaling them to produce more collagen.
Collagen Joint & Cartilage
Reduces joint pain and
repairs and regenerates joint
and cartilage tissue. With
bioactive collagen peptides
sized at 3kDa.
Collagen Tendo Recover Helps
build connective tissue strength
and improve joint movement
after injury. With bioactive
collagen peptides sized at 2kDa.
Collagen Tone
Targets muscle cells and
supports lean body mass.
Featuring bioactive collagen
peptides sized at 3.5kDa,
clinically studied to achieve
optimal muscle strength
and tone.
Think of peptide size as the key to unlocking collagen's potential.
For instance, while 2.5 grams of 2kDa hydrolyzed peptides is most
effective at targeting collagen production in the skin, 5 grams
of 5kDa bioactive peptides is most effective at targeting bone
formation. By controlling the size and sequence of peptides,
that is, which amino acids are included, we’re able to effectively
address a range of health concerns.
As we age, our body's natural collagen production begins to
decline, which can lead to wrinkles, brittle hair and nails, muscle
atrophy and joint stiffness. That’s where our collagen formulas
come in. With peptides in various sizes, they’re designed to
support collagen production exactly where you need it most,
so you can feel supported through every stage of life.
Collagen Bone
Helps to reduce bone loss
and enhances collagen
building in bones. Features
bioactive collagen peptides
sized at 5kDa.
Collagen Full Spectrum
With 100% pure hydrolyzed
peptides sized at 2-5kDa to
stimulate collagen production
for joints, hair, skin, bones,

The dynamic journey
of our bones
Our bones are living tissue, constantly breaking down
and rebuilding. They actively dissolve and then replace
minerals to keep our skeleton strong and stable. Bones
adapt and change in response to the body's needs and
activities, sculpting themselves into structures capable
of bearing weight and facilitating movement.
Building a strong foundation
Joint and cartilage health are key to bone development
during our youth. Cartilage cushions joints, allowing
bones to grow and move without friction. Healthy
joints also help align and stabilize bones, ensuring
proper growth. By our 20s, we reach peak bone mass—
the strongest our bones will be. To support this, calcium
and vitamin D are crucial for building bone density,
while vitamin K2 ensures that calcium is deposited
into our bones.
Protect and perform
Joints and cartilage act as the body's natural shock
absorbers, protecting bones from the repetitive
stress of physical activities. Healthy cartilage reduces
friction in the joints, allowing for smooth movement
and minimizing wear on our bones. Nutrients like
glucosamine and collagen, support cartilage repair and
flexibility, while calcium, magnesium, and vitamins
D3 and K2 help strengthen bones and prevent injury
from physical strain.
Preserving strength and mobility
After 50, bone density decreases faster than it can be
rebuilt, leading to thinner bones that are more prone
to fractures. Key nutrients like calcium, magnesium,
and vitamins D3 and K2 are vital for maintaining bone
strength, while glucosamine, and collagen support
cartilage health and joint flexibility, helping to preserve
mobility and reduce discomfort as we age.

What is bone density?
Bone density is a measurement of the amount of
minerals present in a specific area of bone. These
minerals, primarily calcium and phosphorus, make
up 65% of bone tissue and are what give bone its
hardness and rigidity. Bone density is an important
indicator of how likely bones are to break.

1 DAY,

100 000
BEATS.
The heart is the body’s hardest working
muscle. It beats over 100 000 times a day,
delivering 7500 litres of blood through
nearly 10 000 kilometres of blood vessels. Each
beat requires the same amount of force as
squeezing a tennis ball with one hand, even
while at rest. It pumps blood throughout our
bodies, transporting oxygen and nutrients while
helping get rid of waste products. And for
the amount of work it does for our bodies, it’s
surprisingly small—only the size of your fist.
Almost 80% of early-stage
heart disease can be reversed
with a healthier lifestyle.

Matters of the
he rt.
...it really made me
reflect on what I’d
done, not just in the
short term, like in the
recent months and
years, but the impact
of what you do over
your whole life, how
these things build up.
I don't fear
mortality anymore.
It's important to
enjoy the time
you have.
Sean Squires has spent a lifetime pushing boundaries, not
only as a dedicated long-distance and varsity running coach,
but also as a philanthropist, father, and grandfather. Since
2017, he’s been a CanPrev ambassador, with his days defined by
resilience, endurance and a drive to make a positive impact in the
lives of others. But in 2022, his health took an unexpected turn
that forced him to reassess everything he thought he knew about
fitness, nutrition and self-care.
For Sean, fitness had always been about more than just physical
health–it was a way to inspire and connect with others. At the age of
48, he rekindled a passion for running. This soon led him to coaching
running clinics and eventually becoming the varsity coach for
Centennial College’s cross-country program. “I love seeing people
achieve their goals whether it’s fitness, competition or just a way
to get out and meet other people. I love seeing people challenge
themselves and have fun doing it.”
Despite these accomplishments,
what happened in 2022 was a
stark reminder that even the
fittest people aren’t invincible. Just
30 minutes after completing a halfmarathon,
Sean suffered a heart attack.
The experience came as a shock for
someone so devoted to fitness. “Getting
older, life catches up with you,” Sean
reflects. “ I was training a lot, I was
exercising a lot, but I probably wasn’t
eating as well as I should have been.”
The startling experience gave him
a renewed sense of purpose and a
deeper understanding of what matters
most. “It really makes you think about
what’s important in your life, and the
kind of things you want to achieve
going forward. We have to help
ourselves first.”
Sean’s story is a powerful reminder
that no matter how active we are,
taking care of our hearts—through
both exercise and balanced nutrition
—is essential. For Sean, it was a lesson
learned the hard way, but one he now
shares with others as a source of
inspiration.

Putting
yourself
first
Embracing boundaries and creating space for yourself.
Kim’s journey is one of resilience and self-discovery. Living with
lupus–a condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks the
body’s own organs–brought profound health challenges, including
a kidney transplant. As a natural nurturer, Kim prioritized the
needs of others over her own in an effort
to overcompensate for her health issues.
It wasn’t until she began setting boundaries
and embracing self-care that she realized the
importance of putting herself first. “With lupus,
you just have to listen to your body. And some
days, my body’s telling me, ‘You need to rest,’
and I’m learning to honour that.”
Kim shows us that self-care isn’t selfish—it’s
essential. Her message is clear: putting
yourself first isn’t about neglecting others,
but about ensuring you’re in a better place
to give your best to those around you. Even
when life doesn’t go as planned, you can still
shine in your own unique way.
SELF
CARE

HERE
Feeling good takes work. As women, we
understand this well. We’re often found
putting in the effort to care for those
around us, while our own self-care gets
put on the back burner. CanPrev Women
was created to support the unique health
goals of women and provide the tools you
need to upgrade your self-care toolbox.
We’re here to remind you that choosing
to put your health first is empowering, and
enables you to be the best version of yourself
for those around you. The road to better health
takes time, guidance, and sometimes, a few
encouraging words. That’s why we’re here. To
give you that gentle nudge to dive deeper into
your health journey, because you’re worth it.

Building
your selfcare
crew
Having a community that lifts you and and supports your goals
can help prevent feelings of anxiety, burnout, and isolation.
Andrea and her partner knew they wanted to have children, but
Andrea was born with a chromosome deficiency that left her at risk
of miscarriage. Sadly, on their journey to becoming parents to two
little ones, they experienced 3 devastating losses. Going through a
miscarriage can feel isolating, and sharing
that very personal experience with others
can undoubtedly feel vulnerable.
But when Andrea opened up to her friends
and community, she realized that more
often than not, there’s always at least
one other person in the room who
understands what you’re going through.
Opening up to people may be scary, but
it can help you build trust. It can not only
connect you with the resources you need,
but also give you a sense of comfort,
belonging, and hope.

Getting help
without feeling
helpless
4
Listen to
your body
Advocating for your health is empowering, but it’s not always
easy–especially when you’re not feeling your best. Every step you
take toward caring for your health is an act of courage.
When a devastating car accident left Caitlin with chronic pain and
limited mobility, she had a hard time convincing her healthcare
practitioners that her symptoms were real. Beyond that, she was
confronted with even more life-altering health issues–a diagnosis of
thyroid cancer, followed by carpal tunnel so severe it impacted her
daily life, and a medical mishap that caused a collapsed lung.
Caitlin’s surgeon insisted she’d have to get her entire thyroid removed
due to the cancer, but Caitlin was hesitant. She’d done her research
and learned that it wasn’t always necessary to remove the entire
thyroid, but had a difficult time finding a medical professional who
would support her. With determination
and dedication, Caitlin eventually found
an acupuncturist who helped manage
her chronic pain, a surgeon who would
honour her wishes to keep her thyroid
intact, and a cancer counsellor who
helped her find joy again.
Each chapter of her journey tested her
spirit, but Caitlin refused to let these trials
define her.
We’ve all experienced the occasional feeling that
something feels “off” in our body. In these moments, it’s
important to listen to what your body is telling you.
The pressure and demands of our jobs can easily
overshadow our internal cues, leaving us feeling
disconnected and out of sync. Jessie, like many of us,
pushed through the fatigue and ignored signs of stress,
committed to doing it all. However, it wasn’t until she
paused and made deliberate choices to restore balance
in her life, that her healing journey truly began.

A schedule for success
Let's face it: staying on track with your supplement
routine can be a challenge. We start with
enthusiasm, loading up on vitamins and
minerals, only to find ourselves forgetting to
take them after a few weeks. Life gets busy, and
those little bottles can start gathering dust on
the shelf. It's all too easy to forget or skip a day,
leaving us wondering if we're even getting the
health benefits we're hoping for.
Establishing a consistent supplement routine
is more than just a good habit — it's vital for
optimizing their effectiveness.
Taking certain nutrients at specific times can
enhance their absorption and impact. For
instance, some supplements are best taken with
food to improve digestion, while others may work
more effectively on an empty stomach.
This is where a well-organized supplement
schedule comes into play! By mapping out your
daily intake, you can not only build a routine
but also ensure you're maximizing the benefits
of each nutrient. With a little planning, you can
easily incorporate your supplements into your
daily life and feel confident that your body is
receiving the support it needs throughout
the day.
Consistency is key to maximizing the benefits of your
supplements. This schedule outlines when to take each
supplement and whether to pair it with food. As a rule
of thumb, vitamins and minerals should be taken with
food for better absorption, while herbal supplements
are most effective on an empty stomach.

feedback from retailers saying that through
COVID, CanPrev really stood above and beyond,
taking care of retailers and supporting them
through the challenges they faced.
Ellen Wheeler, VP of Sales at Alive Publishing
What stands out most is their commitment
to quality and research, as well as their
ability to help people feel connected
and supported. They remind you,
‘You know what? You’re not alone.'
Kayla Koh, mobility & performance coach/fascial
stretch specialist, CanPrev Ambassador
When I think of CanPrev, I think of generosity,
community and trust. They’re a brand I can
trust to have ingredients that work, formulated
with patients’ best intentions in mind by
people who truly understand the industry—
not just someone looking to make a profit.
Dr. Garrett Bramall, Naturopathic Doctor
When I was playing professional sports, you
had to watch what you put into your body.
Quality comes to mind—being reassured
that what I was putting in my body was
safe and compliant with CFL guidelines was
massive. It really put my mind at ease.
Mason Bennett, former Hamilton Tiger Cats
defensive end, entrepreneur, CanPrev Ambassador
When I think of CanPrev,
I really think of a family,
like a support system. It
feels like a really good
community that I can
lean on.
Kennedy Justinen, Canadian World Cup
Snowboardcross athlete, CanPrev Ambassador
I believe in their purpose,
and being a part of their
journey has been an honour.
