COMMENTARY:
1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 describes the return of the
Lord, indicating that both the living believers and
the dead in Christ will be taken up during the
Rapture.
The Tribulation, a seven-year time of severe trial
and suffering, refers to those who are left behind
after the rapture of the church and will be faced
with an excruciating choice either accept the mark
of the beast or face starvation and horrific
persecution by the Antichrist and his followers.
But those who come to Christ during that time,
those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book
of life (Revelation 13:8), will choose to endure,
even through martyrdom.
This period begins with the rapture of the church
and involves God's judgment on humanity's
rebellion, culminating in a time when Israel will
repent and recognize Jesus as their Messiah. The
tribulation serves as a warning of God's imminent
judgment, highlighting the consequences of
human decadence and depravity.
