K

Kriss M unsya is a Congolese- born

visual artist whose work reflects a

deeply personal exploration of identity,

memory, and social transformation.

Currently based in Vancouver, Kriss

brings a global perspective to his

creative practice, shaped by a rich and

complex journey that began in Kinshasa

and continued through his upbringing in

Brussels, Belgium during the 1990 s? a

period that holds lasting significance in

his life.

EXPERIEN CES SHAPE ARTISTRY

Growing up as a first-generation African

immigrant in Europe, Kriss was regularly

confronted with the harsh realities of

systemic and normalized racism. These

formative experiences, often marked by

exclusion and violence, profoundly

influenced the way he saw himself and

the world around him.

033

Rather than becoming hardened by

these challenges, Kriss channelled his

emotions and reflections into art? a

space where he could reclaim his story,

challenge harmful narratives, and

connect with others on a meaningful

level.

M ULTIDISCIPLIN ARY PATH

Although Kriss is a self-taught artist, his

creative path has been anything but

narrow. His artistic journey has included

work in photography, graphic design,

music, and video production, allowing

him to build a dynamic and

multidisciplinary foundation. Art has

always had a place in his life, but it was

over five years ago? driven by a

growing commitment to social justice

movements? that Kriss found a distinct

voice through the lens of photography.

For him, photography is not merely a

form of expression; it is a pow erful tool

for storytelling and resistance. It

enables him to translate deeply personal

and collective experiences into visual

narratives that resonate widely and

encourage thoughtful dialogue.

ART THAT EN GAGES

Kriss creates with purpose, often inviting

viewers into conversations that ask

difficult but necessary questions about

race, belonging, and societal norms.

035

His work does not provide simple answers,

but instead offers a space for

contemplation, connection, and empathy.

At its heart, his art serves as both a

reflection of his lived experience and an

open invitation for others to examine the

world through a more compassionate and

critical lens.

RECOGN ITION AN D ACCLAIM

In 20 21, he received the prestigious

Salt Spring N ational Art Prize?

The Joan M cConnell Aw ard? for his work

Dreams Tonite.

His photographic series The Eraser also

secured the Fine Art Photography Aw ard

in 20 21 and was a finalist for the BBA

Gallery Photography Prize in Berlin,

further establishing his international

reputation.

GLOBAL IM PACT GROWS

Continuing his trajectory of critical

success, Munsya's 20 23 project

Genetic Bomb earned him the Lens

Culture Emerging Talent Aw ard, and was

shortlisted for the Contemporary African

Photography Prize.

In 20 24, he won the Contemporary

African Photography Prize for the same

series, highlighting his ongoing impact on

the global art scene. His work has been

exhibited in esteemed venues such as the

Gallery Jones and Pendulum Gallery in

Vancouver and the Robertson- Ares

Gallery in M ontreal, and featured in

prominent publications including

The N ew Yorker, Aesthetica M agazine,

and IM A M agazine.

VISION FORWARD TOGETHER

Whether behind the camera or weaving

together a new visual concept, artist

Kriss Munsya continues to evolve as a

storyteller. His work speaks not only to

where he has come from, but also to

where he hopes we can go

together? toward greater understanding,

justice, and humanity.

VA NCOUVER A RT GA LLERY | 750 Hornby Street

RIn a remarkable celebration of one of

Canada?s most visionary artists, the

Vancouver Art Gallery unveils

Riopelle: Crossroads in Time? a

sweeping retrospective that honours

the legacy and creative spirit of

Jean Paul Riopelle (1923?20 0 2).

Presented in partnership with the

N ational Gallery of Canada as part

of the Jean Paul Riopelle Centenary,

this landmark exhibition invites

audiences to immerse themselves

in five decades of innovation,

experimentation, and artistic

brilliance.

With nearly 10 0 w orks drawn from

public and private collections across

Canada and abroad, the exhibition is

the most comprehensive survey of

Riopelle?s oeuvre ever mounted in

Vancouver.

From early abstract paintings to his

late-career mixed media creations,

Crossroads in Time is a journey through

the constantly evolving mind of a

trailblazing artist who defied

convention and challenged the

boundaries of modern art.

041

A BOLD VISION , GLOBAL LEGACY

Jean Paul Riopelle occupies a singular

place in Canadian and international

art history. A founding member of

Les Automatistes, his early work

embraced spontaneity and the

subconscious, laying the foundation for a

career defined by fearless innovation.

By the 1950 s, Riopelle had developed his

distinctive mosaic style, applying thick

swathes of paint with a palette knife to

create textured, dynamic compositions

that drew global attention. Works such as

La Roue II (1956) and Chicago II (1958)

stand as powerful testaments to his

explosive creativity during this period.

Curated by acclaimed art historian

and researcher Dr. Sylvie Lacerte, the

exhibition presents Riopelle?s work

through a fresh interpretive lens, one that

underscores his enduring commitment to

artistic freedom.

?Jean Paul Riopelle was the first

post- w ar Canadian artist to achieve

international status,? says Lacerte. ?He is

a pillar of our history, who has left in his

wake a multifaceted body of work that

encourages pushing past boundaries, and

this is perhaps his greatest legacy.?

JOURN EY THROUGH FIVE DECADES

Riopelle: Crossroads in Time is organized

chronologically, offering a clear and

compelling narrative of the artist?s

development across various mediums.

Paintings, sculptures, drawings, collages,

and prints are brought together in an

engaging visual symphony that captures

the vast scope of Riopelle?s creativity.

Noteworthy highlights include early works

from the 1940 s that reveal the influence

of Surrealism and Les Automatistes, as

well as vibrant examples from his

signature 1950 s period. As viewers move

through the decades, they encounter

Riopelle?s forays into bronze sculpture,

his contemplative works inspired by the

Far N orth in the 1970 s, and his exuberant

final pieces, which incorporate spray

paint and glitter? a daring departure

that demonstrates the artist?s refusal to

remain static.

AN CHORED IN CAN ADIAN CULTURE

The exhibition also explores Riopelle?s

relationships with contemporaries such as

Alberto Giacometti, Sam Francis, and

Françoise Sullivan, offering insights into

the artistic exchanges that influenced his

creative process. Through these

connections, the exhibition situates

Riopelle within a broader cultural

dialogue while reaffirming his place as a

Canadian icon.

M ichael Audain, Chair of The Audain

Foundation and cofounder of the

Jean Paul Riopelle Foundation, has

been instrumental in the centenary

celebrations. ?I consider Jean Paul

Riopelle to be one of the greatest

Canadian artists of all time,? he notes.

043

?Over the past five years, the Jean Paul

Riopelle Foundation curated an

exceptional program to mark the

centenary of his birth... We consider

this to be our collective duty of

memory.?

His sentiments are echoed by

Anthony Kiendl, former CEO and

Executive Director of the Vancouver Art

Gallery, who expresses gratitude to The

Audain Foundation for enabling the

exhibition to travel to British Columbia.

?We are grateful to our presenting

sponsor, The Audain Foundation, who

made it possible to give Vancouver

audiences this incredible opportunity

to experience Riopelle?s remarkable

work and the new perspectives that the

exhibition offers.?

RESTORED AN D RARELY SEEN

Among the exhibition?s many treasures

are two standout works from the

Vancouver Art Gallery?s permanent

collection: Sous le M ythe de Gitskan

N o. 3 (1956) and Figure libre- Parure

(1967).

The latter underwent meticulous

conservation in preparation for the

exhibition, ensuring that its vibrant

surface and intricate textures could be

fully appreciated. This thoughtful

restoration speaks to the care and

dedication behind the exhibition?s

curatorial vision.

045

Equally compelling is the inclusion

of rarely exhibited pieces that

have remained out of the public

eye for decades. These works offer

a more intimate view into Riopelle?s

lesser-known explorations,

providing both longtime admirers

and new audiences with a deeper

understanding of his multifaceted

career.

TRAN SCEN DIN G TIM E

True to its title, Crossroads in Time is

not only a reflection of Riopelle?s

artistic journey, but also a

meditation on his enduring

relevance. Through his radical

techniques, global influence, and

unwavering pursuit of creative

autonomy, Riopelle left a legacy

that continues to resonate across

generations.

Visitors to the Vancouver Art

Gallery will find themselves

immersed in a world where

abstraction, emotion, and cultural

exchange converge.

The accompanying exhibition

catalogue, a beautifully designed

hardcover volume edited by

Sylvie Lacerte, further enriches the

experience with essays from

distinguished artists and art

historians who reflect on Riopelle?s

impact.

N atalie M axon (Younge Hip & M arried) in

a ceremony set against the magnificent,

sun-drenched backdrop of Phantom Creek

Estates in Oliver, BC.

The wedding unfolded as an immersive,

guest-focused experience, lovingly

designed. From the outset, the couple

envisioned a celebration that went beyond

their own joy, focusing on creating magical

moments for their 30 0 cherished guests. The

entire weekend was thoughtfully crafted to

ensure everyone felt like the star of their own

personal fairytale. The event kicked off with

a grand red carpet entrance, cheerful

interviews by beloved Vancouver

personalities Fred Lee and Rachel Beau, and

a cinematic atmosphere enhanced by soulful

live musical performances, talented

photographers stationed throughout the

estate, and a jumbo LED screen

broadcasting the action.

053

CURATED EXPERIEN CE

The aesthetic was an exquisite mix of

high fashion and modern

sophistication, inspired by the couple?s

bold and polished personal style. The

design featured a striking palette of

white, black, warm neutrals, and

shimmering metallics, enhanced with

towering candles, glittering

chandeliers, and sculptural florals. The

couple?s custom AVK monogram was

thoughtfully displayed throughout, and

a commissioned gold sculpture by

M ark Ollinger, titled 'Devotion,'

beautifully paid tribute to their

lifelong commitment.

AN IM M ERSIVE CEREM ON Y

With nearly 30 0 guests and an

additional 10 0 staff and performers,

the ceremony was an extraordinary

orchestration of intention and beauty.

Before the ceremony, Aleem and

Victor prepared together in a private

room, exchanging handw ritten

vow s? raw, emotional, and

unfiltered? captured in real time.

The ceremony opened with a powerful

and soulful performance of 'Songbird,'

led by dear friend and

Juno-nominated artist Warren Dean

Flandez, accompanied by a moving

14- person choir. As the couple

entered the amphitheatre from

opposite sides, the choir shed maroon

robes to reveal elegant all-white

ensembles, marking the moment with

visual and vocal splendour.

055

Opting for equal footing rather than

tradition, Aleem and Victor walked in

simultaneously and met at the altar,

departing hand-in-hand to begin

their married life with a literal and

symbolic lift? ascending together,

into the sky.

After the ceremony, they were

w hisked aw ay by helicopter to a

peaceful mountaintop, where they

took in the magnitude of their vows

and the heartwarming vista of their

loved ones below.

A custom puzzle was lovingly created

in memory of Victor?s late father, with

each guest contributing a piece to

honour his legacy.

A SPECTACULAR RECEPTION

The evening was a multi- sensory

celebration, where every thoughtful

detail was designed to captivate.

Signature cocktails, Theos and Helios,

named after the grooms' beloved

cats, set the playful tone.

Guests were treated to a curated

selection of entertainment including

acoustic sets by Adrienne & Hendrix

and M ax & N aRai, roving music with

Sax w ith Eric, and an operatic

performance by Jane Perett.

The outdoor long-table dinner for

30 0 , prepared by the brilliant Chef

Valdez of Phantom Creek Estates,

was complemented by immersive

visuals projected across the limestone

courtyard walls.

The highlight was a romantic first

dance by the couple to JVKE?s ' This is

What Slow Dancing Feels Like' ? a

moment of pure joy, not only for

Aleem and Victor but the guests.

LUXURY GUEST EXPERIEN CE

From the moment guests arrived, the

experience was nothing short of

indulgent and inviting. Spirit Ridge

Resort provided exclusive

accommodations, with private coach

transportation to and from the venue.

Upon arrival, guests were greeted by

a glamorous red carpet and a

real-life angel in a whimsical

monogrammed Champagne Dress by

Paintertainment, setting the stage for

an unforgettable evening of

indulgence and delight.

Interactive elements, such as a lively

photo booth, a life-sized puzzle

installation, a nostalgic phone

guestbook, w ine cellar tours, and

tastings, kept guests entertained and

engaged throughout the evening.

Guests were invited to pose for

personalized black- and- w hite

portraits by Lucky Booth, which were

framed, as cherished keepsakes,

adding a heartfelt touch that further

elevated the experience.

059

A FASHION SYM PHON Y

Aleem and Victor?s wedding wardrobe

was nothing short of a dazzling fashion

symphony? bold, transformative, and

meticulously designed to express

individuality and unity.

Each groom wore four couture looks,

created in collaboration with

celebrated Canadian couturier

Denis Gagnon. Known for blending

timeless tradition with avant-garde

innovation, Denis crafted ensembles

with fluid silhouettes, dramatic bows,

opulent fabrics, and sculptural layering.

The ceremony looks featured crisp

white and ivory tones, accented with

oversized pearls, satin-matte contrasts,

and sweeping trains. The designs

mirrored one another as the couple

walked from opposite sides of the

amphitheatre to meet at the altar.

For the reception, dramatic black

ensembles added contrast and flair,

with Victor?s detachable cape and

Aleem?s seven- foot removable skirt

creating striking visual moments.

The speech and cake-cutting looks,

designed by Eduardo Ramos,

introduced delicate lace, silky textures,

and hand-embellished details, echoing

the romance of their cinematic love

story that was screened during dinner.

061

Their dance looks returned to a classic

black- and- w hite palette, adorned

with dazzling diamante details and

reimagined corsetry. These ensembles

gracefully balanced high fashion with

function, allowing freedom of

movement for their joyous first dance.

Every piece was created w ith loving

intention? designed not just as

one-time outfits, but as modular,

transformative pieces with the

possibility of being joyfully re-worn.

These couture creations were more

than garments? they were expressive

statements of love, identity, and

shared vision. Each design captured

the essence of their relationship:

beautifully unique, yet perfectly

complementary.

THE CREATIVE VISION

From the very beginning, professional

event planner Pri was more than just a

'planner'? she was a trusted

confidante, a creative visionary, and a

cherished part of Aleem and Victor?s

journey.

The couple often express their deep

gratitude for her unwavering

dedication and genuine care.

Pri was the first to join their team, even

before a date had been chosen, and

had already played a meaningful role

in their lives by producing their

heartfelt engagement party, which

raised nearly $15,0 0 0 for the

Canadian Ukrainian Foundation.

Her involvement continued with their

casting in her short film, 'Fake

Wedding,' showcasing the deep

personal bond they shared.

063

065

For the wedding, Pri brought the couple?s

dream to life with incredible finesse,

orchestrating every emotional beat and

musical element.

Her tireless efforts and heartfelt

commitment created a truly

unforgettable experience, and Aleem

and Victor remain profoundly thankful

for the magic she helped them create.

In conjunction with Pri at the helm of

planning the experience, the couple also

brought on the powerhouse team of

Jenny & Soha of Countdow n Events to

help bring their vision to life.

From the decor to food and florals,

place settings, custom stationery and

logistics of the countless vendors, this

was no easy feat as a majority of

suppliers travelling from Vancouver to

the Okanagan for this magical event.

A WEDDIN G FOR THE AGES

As the day unfolded to the evening and

into the wee hours, every element? from

the thoughtful dining and moving

entertainment to the immersive

experiences and visionary

design? reflected the couples desire to

create a celebration that was as much

for their guests as it was for them.

This wedding was a masterclass in

luxury, creativity, and heartfelt

community. It was a fairytale that, quite

literally, was written in the sky. The

couple?s wedding was not only a

celebration of love and unity but also a

tribute to artistry, culture, and the joyful

beauty of shared experiences.

071

A CASTLE BUILT FOR DREAM S

At its centre, Hatley Castle is a

beacon of timeless romance,

capturing the hearts of those who

dream of a wedding steeped in

history, beauty and luxury.

Hatley Castle?s origins trace back to

190 8, when James and Laura

Dunsmuir envisioned a residence of

extraordinary elegance.

Designed by acclaimed architect

Samuel M aclure, the castle

embodies Gothic Revival

architecture in the spirit of early

20 th century mansions. At the time it

was built, it was the largest private

residence on the West Coast.

Shortly after Laura?s death in 1937,

the Department of N ational

Defence purchased Hatley Park and

transformed the grounds and castle

into a ?ship on land? to train junior

naval officers during WWII. This

storied tradition continued with the

establishment of the Royal Roads

M ilitary College until its closure in

1995.

Its successor, Royal Roads University,

opened as a public university the

same year and continues to steward

the property. The university is

committed to sustainability,

reconciliation, equity, diversity and

inclusion.

073

A GRAN D EN TRAN CE TO FOREVER

Every journey at Hatley Castle begins

with an arrival worthy of royalty. The

porte- cochère, an elegant carriage

porch, welcomes guests into a world

of opulence. M edieval busts flank the

entrance, while intricate stone

carvings feature James Dunsmuir?s

initials surrounded by Scottish

thistles, offer a nod to the estate?s

heritage. Impressive double oak doors

with brass handles shaped like

rampart lions complement the whimsy

of the bronze angel doorbell

beckoning guests in.

Inside, the castle?s

Elizabethan- inspired grand hall

enchants with its vaulted ceilings,

half-panelled plaster walls, and

hand-carved oak beams. A rose-hued

sandstone fireplace radiates warmth,

while pointed arches accentuate the

intricate banisters and minstrel

gallery. This is a space designed to

awe and inspire against a backdrop

of timeless grandeur.

Hatley Castle?s first floor is a realm of

sophistication, perfect for intimate

ceremonies and grand receptions.

The 1,20 0 - square- foot drawing room,

with its soaring 16- foot ceilings and

twin black marble fireplaces, offers

a luminous space for toasts and

celebrations. French doors open to a

sunlit terrace, revealing sweeping

views of the Olympic M ountains and

Pacific Ocean.

CIN EM ATIC ALLURE & PRESTIGE

As you walk the grounds of Hatley

Park, you may feel as though you have

stepped into a cinematic

masterpiece? and with good reason.

This legendary estate has graced the

silver screen in films and series such as

Descendants and Smallville, adding

a touch of Hollyw ood glamour to its

RA NGE ROVER HOUSE 2025 | Whistler, BC

Range Rover, long revered for its mastery

of elegant utility and British refinement, has

embarked on an innovative new

journey? its first venture into the realm of

fashion. The launch of The London

Collection, an exclusive eight-piece

capsule, introduces a sartorial evolution for

the storied marque. Designed as a modern

luxury lifestyle collection, it seamlessly

translates the brand?s design DN A into

wearable expressions of craftsmanship,

individuality, and quiet confidence.

s p i r i t s

107

This is not simply a foray

into clothing. It is a statement.

With a clear emphasis on

considered design and

artisanal excellence, The

London Collection embodies

Range Rover?s ongoing

philosophy of modern luxury.

Each piece speaks to those

who value timeless elegance,

understated sophistication, and

meaningful detail.

THE FACE OF A N EW ERA

British supermodel and actress

Adw oa Aboah headlines the

campaign, chosen for her

global appeal and innate

understanding of style with

substance. Her involvement

brings authenticity and

modernity to the project. The

visual storytelling unfolds within

London?s Design District? a

setting that echoes the

collection?s modernist leanings

and cosmopolitan spirit.

Directed by fashion creative

M arcos Fecchino, the

campaign captures a narrative

of graceful movement, strong

geometry, and bold simplicity.

IN SIDE THE COLLECTION

The eight pieces span

outerw ear, accessories, and

textiles, each infused with

thoughtful design and a deep

reverence for provenance.

Reversible jackets, silk twill

scarves, and wool-cashmere

blankets are among the

highlights, created to reflect

the purity of form and function

that Range Rover vehicles have

long exemplified. Tailored

silhouettes, innovative fabrics,

and modular versatility

underpin the capsule?s

contemporary aesthetic.

At the heart of the collection is

an abstract graphic motif

inspired by the marque?s

vehicle design language.

The angular lines and subtle

curves echo the silhouette of

the Range Rover itself, creating

a unified visual thread across

the collection.

Whether worn in the city or

styled for travel, the pieces

offer a sense of place, purpose,

and elevated living .

109

CRAFTSM AN SHIP AS CORN ERSTON E

Produced in limited quantities, each

piece is made in the United Kingdom or

Italy using time-honoured techniques. The

reversible jackets? Knightsbridge

Promenade and Soho Chic? are

hand-cut and quilted with remarkable

precision. Their bespoke gold zip pulls

nod to the rotary dials once present in

Range Rover cabins, now reimagined as

elegant tactile accents.

The collection?s palette draws

inspiration from post-war British design,

resulting in hues that are bold yet

grounded? unexpected but enduring.

From rich jewel tones to soft neutrals,

colour is used to evoke mood and

memory.

?I loved shooting this campaign in my

home city for a brand that has always

meant something to me,? Aboah shared.

?The About Town print is my favourite? it

is wearable and easy, yet it feels

elevated and powerful.?

SCARVES THAT SPEAK

Two silk scarves anchor the accessory

range: About Tow n and Chelsea

Blossom. Crafted with care, they reflect

Europe?s rich textile heritage. The former

is printed in Lake Como, Italy, and the

latter is produced in one of

M acclesfield?s last operational silk mills.

Each scarf features the signature

Bodyside M otif, with hand-rolled edges

and saturated colours that make each

one a collector?s item.

These scarves are not seasonal

accessories? they are modern heirlooms,

designed to add depth and dimension to

any wardrobe, whether worn or

displayed.

BLAN KETS THAT DEFIN E A SPACE

The collection?s wool-cashmere blankets

offer another layer of quiet luxury. Woven

in Italy on jacquard looms, they are

finished with a classic blanket stitch and

presented in two refined colourways:

London N ightfall and Cream Tea. Each

is designed with Range Rover?s Bodyside

Motif subtly embedded, offering both

aesthetic appeal and tactile comfort.

Intended to elevate any interior space or

travel experience, the blankets

encapsulate Range Rover?s ethos of

elegant adventure.

CURATED WITH IN TEN T

According to Kimberley Panton, Apparel

Designer for Range Rover, ?This capsule

is about more than clothing? it is about

embodying our brand?s ethos in a

tangible, personal w ay. We wanted to

explore colour and texture in a way that

reflects the vibrancy of modern London

living, while always staying rooted in our

design language.?

With its clean lines, rich materials, and

story- driven elements, The London

Collection signals a bold new chapter

for the brand.

CAN ADIAN DEBUT IN WHISTLER

In Canada, this exclusive capsule was

revealed at one of the country?s most

spectacular settings? the annual Range

Rover House experience at Wedge

M ountain Lodge & Spa in Whistler,

British Columbia.

Whistler is no stranger to hosting

elevated experiences, and this marked

the second year that Range Rover House

returned to this alpine location through a

partnership with SHARP M agazine. From

the cinematic views along How e Sound

to the world-class slopes of Whistler

Blackcomb, the destination offered a

sublime stage for the unveiling.

DESIGN & IN DULGEN CE

Guests were welcomed into a world of

refined experiences designed to

complement the collection?s premiere.

Glenfiddich led an immersive whisky

tasting featuring a selection of its

prestigious single malts, while

Hendrick?s Gin crafted a bespoke

cocktail menu that captured the spirit of

the surrounding landscape. elit Vodka

offered a sensory journey of purity and

elegance, and Tantalus Vineyards

presented a curated tasting of its

celebrated Okanagan wines.

Adding a further layer of opulence,

Bulgari (John Pollard IGI) hosted a

gemstone grading experience and

showcased high jewellery pieces that

reflected the same design precision and

attention to detail as the collection itself.

THE CELESTIAL TOUCH

A major highlight of the event was the

Canadian debut of the Gaea Edition,

part of the five-model Celestial

Collection of Range Rover Sport SVs.

Limited to just ten examples nationwide,

the Gaea captivates with its Green

TerreM atte finish, a colour that shifts

between green and blue in response to

light? mirroring the hues of the

surrounding Whistler landscape. This

model, inspired by the harmony of land

and sea, exemplifies the kind of

narrative-driven design that connects

Range Rover?s automotive and lifestyle

worlds.

A FUTURE WOVEN IN FABRIC

COLIBRI | Cigar Retailers | Vancouver, BC

C

For nearly a century, Colibri has

stood at the intersection of

innovation and elegance in the

world of cigar accessories.

Established in 1928 by inventor

Julius Low enthal, Colibri was

born from a singular vision: to

bring refined, stylish

engineering to the tools that

accompany the timeless ritual of

cigar enjoyment.

From its very first invention? the

semi- automatic lighter? the

company introduced a bold

spirit of innovation that has

defined its trajectory ever since.

Today, Colibri remains a

distinguished name synonymous

with sophistication, known not

only for its lighters but also for

its precise cigar cutters,

humidors, and accessories that

embody both function and form.

With its headquarters in

N ew York City, Colibri has

managed to evolve without

compromising its heritage,

crafting products that appeal

to discerning aficionados

across generations.

119

EN GIN EERED FOR CON N OISSEURS

Every Colibri creation begins with an

understanding of the lifestyle of the

modern cigar enthusiast. Whether it

is the moment of lighting a

hand-rolled cigar or the satisfying

snip of a double guillotine cutter,

Colibri crafts each item with purpose

and performance in mind. The brand?s

design philosophy marries

cutting- edge engineering with clean

architectural aesthetics, often

drawing inspiration from Art Deco

motifs, high-performance automotive

design, and industrial minimalism.

Yet, Colibri is more than just design? it

is about experience. Each accessory

is an extension of a moment of leisure,

contemplation, and celebration. In

that respect, Colibri has not only

created tools, but elevated rituals.

THE QUASAR IN TRODUCTION

In 20 14, Colibri introduced a line that

would become one of its most

celebrated: the Quasar Collection.

Marking a bold departure from

traditional smooth finishes and

rounded edges, Quasar emerged as a

statement in both tactile innovation

and sculptural design. It was a love

letter to geometry, created for those

who view accessories as art.

The name ?Quasar? itself evokes both

cosmic energy and futuristic

vision? fitting for a line that

revolutionized expectations within the

cigar community.

With the launch of the Quasar Table

Lighter, Colibri redefined what a

desktop lighter could be: an angular,

powerful, and visually striking

centrepiece that demanded

attention.

SCULPTURAL & FUN CTION AL

The Quasar Table Lighter was the

first in the series to draw admiration

for its distinctive three- dimensional

façade.

With its dimpled pyramidal texture

and modern silhouette, the design

echoes Brutalist architecture while

remaining unmistakably sleek.

Underneath the artistry, however, lies

high- performance engineering .

The table lighter features a triple- jet

flame ignition system, wind-resistant

functionality, and a generous butane

capacity? all essential for consistent

and effortless cigar lighting.

121

Its form is not merely ornamental; it is

ergonomic, inviting the hand to engage.

The weight, the finish, the tactile

sensation? it all contributes to a luxury

experience that is both deliberate and

dynamic.

?As a collector and daily user of

Colibri accessories, I can say the

Quasar line is in a class of its own,? says

Vlad Xanthopoulos, Vices Ambassador

for Folio.YVR Luxury Lifestyle Magazine.

?It is not only about functionality? it is

about making a statement on your

humidor, your table, or your lifestyle.?

EXPAN DIN G THE COLLECTION

The success of the initial Quasar Table

Lighter led to an expanded collection,

including the Quasar Cigar Cutter,

Quasar Punch, and most recently, the

Quasar Desktop Humidor. Each piece

continues the legacy of precise

craftsmanship, transforming practical

tools into objects of admiration.

The Quasar Cutter, for instance, features

a dual- blade system encased in a

geometric housing that feels solid and

responsive. The deep v-cut blade

delivers a precise draw, ensuring the

perfect smoke every time.

It is these small, thoughtful

details? blade sharpness, spring

action, and grip? that distinguish

Colibri accessories in a saturated

market.

Similarly, the Quasar Punch offers a

unique retractable blade and

magnetically sealed body, marrying

innovation with refinement. These

designs honour the cigar ritual while

updating it with contemporary

elegance.

?The Quasar Punch is one of those

accessories that people ask about every

time I bring it out,? Vlad continues. ?It

sparks conversation. It tells people you

care about the craft.?

A DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

Colibri?s creative direction is rooted in

precision and presence. The company

understands that a cigar smoker is not

simply using a product, but engaging in

a ritual? a performance of taste, time,

and personality.

The brand?s design studio collaborates

with engineers, artists, and fabricators

to produce accessories that feel

personal yet powerful.

123

In the Quasar line, that philosophy is

amplified. The Quasar Humidor, launched

in 20 22, is a culmination of Colibri?s

engineering vision. Featuring a

cedar- lined interior, digital hygrometer,

and adjustable tray system, it is both

sculptural and practical.

Designed to hold up to 125 cigars, it

protects its contents with the same level of

architectural thought as the exterior

suggests.

The spirit of Colibri has not deviated since

its inception. They continue to be

dedicated to producing smoking

accessories and luxury goods that enable

life's peak moment.

WHERE TO FIN D COLIBRI 1928

For aficionados in towntown Vancouver,

Cigar Connoisseurs and 20 0 0 Cigars

destinations for those seeking elegance,

innovation, and quality.

Whether purchasing a statement lighter or

undeniably refined.

135

WA TCHES A ND WONDERS | Geneva, Sw itzerland

wThe

prestigious Watches and Wonders

event returned once more to Geneva,

Sw itzerland bringing with it a world of

horological sophistication, innovation, and

cultural enrichment. Held annually, this

event was open to the public, inviting

collectors, aficionados, and the curious

alike to immerse themselves in the intricate

artistry of w atchmaking. With its blend of

exhibitions, conferences, and citywide

activations, the 20 25 edition proved to be

a dynamic and intellectually engaging

experience.

Many of the exquisite timepieces unveiled

at Watches and Wonders are available in

Vancouver through the city?s premier

luxury w atch retailers. For those who

could not attend in person, this serves as a

reminder that the marvels of fine horology

are never too far away.

137

A JOURN EY THROUGH TIM E

One of the most compelling visual

experiences at the Salon was the

exhibition Longitude 0 °, curated

by Geneva-based photographer

Fred M erz. This thoughtful

photographic exploration followed

the path of the iconic Greenw ich

M eridian, tracing its line across

continents and landscapes. Through

Merz?s lens, visitors discovered

physical markers scattered along this

longitudinal axis, each telling a quiet

story of place and identity.

Accompanying the evocative imagery

were personal anecdotes from

individuals living in proximity to the

meridian? stories that added human

texture to the geographical precision.

The exhibit invited visitors to

contemplate the intimate relationship

between time, space, and culture.

DEEPEN IN G UN DERSTAN DIN G

Beyond the aesthetic and mechanical

allure of timepieces, Watches and

Wonders made a concerted effort to

provoke thought and dialogue. At the

Auditorium, a comprehensive

conference program tackled several

important themes in modern

watchmaking. The series addressed

emerging talents and

underrepresented trades, shining a

spotlight on the next generation of

artisans and innovators.

139

One of the highlights of the conference

was a panel dedicated to the evolving

role of w omen in w atchmaking. Experts

discussed the importance of inclusive

representation and the contributions of

female watchmakers whose technical

and artistic prowess continue to redefine

industry norms.

Another important discussion explored

the burgeoning market for second- hand

luxury w atches. As collectors

increasingly turn to pre-owned models

for both sustainability and investment

value, panellists unpacked the

challenges of authenticity, certification,

and future value.

An especially forward-thinking

conversation centred around the efforts

to include horological arts and

mechanics within UN ESCO?s list of

intangible cultural heritage.

This initiative seeks to preserve the deep

cultural significance of watchmaking

and acknowledge its contribution to

human ingenuity.

141

THE CITY AS CAN VAS

Watches and Wonders extended its

influence beyond the convention

walls through its vibrant In The City

program. Designed to democratize

access to the world of watchmaking,

these cultural activations turned

Geneva into an open-air celebration

of time.

Free to the public, the program

featured a curated collection of

exhibitions, performances, and

conversations that positioned

watchmaking within broader cultural

contexts. At the Payot bookshop,

guests had the rare opportunity to

meet and converse with esteemed

figures such as Geneva historian

Gérard Duc, award-winning author

M ax Lobe, and acclaimed Swiss

crime writers N icolas Feuz and

M arc Voltenaeur.

These literary encounters were

designed to draw connections

between horology and disciplines

such as literature, psychology, and

history. The result was a more holistic

appreciation of how watchmaking

intersects with the intellectual and

artistic life of a city.

143

WATCHM AKERS ON THE SCREEN

For those interested in the narrative

history of the craft, the Bio Cinema

offered a compelling cinematic

experience. The featured film, Les

Héritiers des Paysans- Horlogers by

Swiss director Claude Schauli, delved

into the rich legacy of farming

communities who transformed their

passion into world-renowned horological

craftsmanship.

The documentary provided an intimate

glimpse into the origins of many Swiss

watchmakers, tracing their roots to

agricultural traditions and highlighting

the perseverance and precision that

carried over into their timekeeping

pursuits.

A WORLD OF TIM E IN VAN COUVER

While the grandeur of Watches and

Wonders found its home in Geneva, the

spirit of the event resonates globally. In

Vancouver, discerning collectors and

enthusiasts can experience the world of

fine horology through a selection of luxury

retailers who carry many of the same

esteemed brands showcased at the event.

From classic heritage houses to

contemporary innovators, the diversity

and excellence on display in Geneva is

mirrored in the city?s thriving luxury watch

scene. Whether seeking a modern

complication or a vintage masterpiece,

Vancouver offers numerous opportunities

to explore time differently.

145

AN IN VITATION TO DISCOVER

Watches and Wonders remains an

unparalleled celebration of

craftsmanship, culture, and

community. Its open-door policy ensures

that each year, new visitors can step into

the w orld of fine w atchmaking and

leave with a deeper understanding of its

artistry and relevance.

The event serves not only as a platform

for unveiling extraordinary timepieces

but also as a bridge connecting

watchmaking to w ider cultural

narratives. Through exhibitions, lectures,

and citywide events, it continues to

expand the way the world experiences

time.

Those unable to attend in Geneva are

encouraged to seek out the brands and

philosophies showcased at Watches

and Wonders through local retailers and

cultural institutions. The world of

horology is, after all, one that rewards

curiosity and invites everyone to explore

time differently.
