Place and Phoo Exploraion
For his semeser long assignmen, we were old o
choose a place we hough was imporan o us. The
place ha I chose was he Muliculural Resource
Cener which is locaed on campus here a
UW- Sevens Poin. I began o ake phoos of he
MRC and ried o capure hings ha sood ou o me
in his space. We had o choose hree phoos ou of
50 ha were essenial o he meaning of he space.
From hen on we manipulaed he phoos o ge a
beter look and focus on shapes.

Symbol Se
Once he images were manipulaed we were old o selec a symbol from each phoograph. To make hings easier, I focused on pars of he
phoos ha sood ou o me. A his poin, I wasn’ sure abou any of my symbol choices as hey were very complex bu I was going o work
on his moving forward.
For my firs symbol, I waned o focus on he sapler on he able. Once I had
isolaed i, I began o manipulae i and ended wih my firs version of my
symbol. I has many sharp lines ha give i a unified look.
The overall phoo of he couch had repeiive feaures. On some pars of he
couch, i almos seemed like here was a patern and a good porion of he
phoo was black. I ended wih a figure ha had many lines ha poined in
many direcions.
There was a lo more deail in his phoo once i was manipulaed. Once I
had zoomed in, I decided on a very small par of he phoo. I conains many
organic shapes ha have more deph o hem.

Symbol Wih Leterform
Once I simplified he logo I decided o use he leter “Q”. In one
of he earlier versions, I applied i direcly o he symbol. Laer
on, when I found he symbol o be oo complicaed I simplified
i again and hen roaed he leterform. This ime he leter-
form was no direcly applied.

For my second symbol, I decided on an exclamaion mark
because i was similar o my simplified symbol allowing i o
blend in. Alhough he leterform works, i adds o he
complexiy of he symbol. Ulimaely, once I landed a my final
version of he symbol, I direcly applied he leter “X” o creae
some negaive space.
For his symbol, I decided o use an aserisk. I decided o
direcly apply on he lower corner o creae some negaive
space. I hough I had simplified i enough bu I did end up
going back o remove pars ha sood ou. I hen enlarged he
aserisk and placed half of in he symbol.

Flags
For my firs symbol, I waned o connec he dynamic feeling of he MRC. I decided
o place he symbol in he middle as I hough i was mos effecive here. My color
choice was based on he MRC logo and he variey of people who show up a he
cener every day.
I decided o focus on he brighness of he MRC and how loud i can ge. I didn’ hink
ha his symbol would look good wih sripes or anyhing else because of how long i
already is. Due o his, I jus placed i in he middle. The orange sands ou in
comparison o he oher colors and also connecs o my place. I also made he
leterform red o creae some conras.
I again decided ha in he end, he symbol worked beter when i was placed a he
cener. I decided on he colors because hey are warm and brigh much like he MRC.
I added bars a he op and botom o creae a bi of an illusion, almos as if he circle
in he middle were o roll off.
