Hello and Welcome!

The past few months have felt heavy, and I wonder

if you’ve felt it too. Life’s pace, rising costs, global

uncertainty, and constant change can leave us

feeling disconnected - not just from others, but

from ourselves.

When that happens, it’s easy to lose sight of the

little things: kindness, gratitude, compassion. But

it’s in these small acts where the magic lies. A kind

word. A walk in nature. Growing something from

seed and watching it bloom - a quiet reminder of

life’s resilience and beauty.

We can all do our part, even in the simplest ways

- reducing what we buy, repurposing what we

have, choosing nourishment over numbing habits,

sleeping well, and showing up gently for ourselves

and others.

Sometimes, a smile really can make all the

difference. Try it - in the mirror, at the shop,

with a stranger. You might just lift someone

who needed it.

And if you’re struggling, know you’re not alone.

There are local meditation classes available

(see page 22 ) and I’m always here if you need

a friendly chat.

Wishing you peace, presence and plenty of smiles

this season.

As spring arrives with longer days and a

to secure your future by establishing

both a Will and a Lasting Power of Attorney

A Will ensures your estate is distributed

according to your wishes, easing the burden

Together, a Will and an LPA provide

MEDICAL AESTHETIC TREATMENTS

The Silent Stress on Skin

Modern life can be demanding - especially for those

juggling parenting, careers, relationships, and running

a home. As a working mum herself, Dr Sita Madaan

understands how easily stress can creep in - and how

it often shows up first on our faces.

Stress triggers hormonal changes that can cause

breakouts, dullness, sensitivity and flare-ups like

rosacea, and even premature ageing. Tired eyes due

to sleepless nights with young children, rushing

between meetings and mealtimes, or simply feeling

overwhelmed - all these impact our skin’s barrier,

hydration levels, and natural glow.

Dr Madaan sees it time and time again in clinic: tired,

frustrated patients who feel like their skin just doesn’t

reflect how they want to look or feel. That’s why her

approach is always holistic. She takes the time to

understand lifestyle, diet, stress levels and sleep

patterns - because it’s all connected.

She uses her AI technology skin analyser machine

to analyse the root cause of the problem to then

create a personalised skincare plan. From tired

eye treatments to gentle medical skin peels and

advanced anti ageing remedies, Dr Madaan tailors

solutions to suit each individual. But it always starts

with a thorough 90 minute conversation.

So if your skin is telling the story of your stress - let’s

chat. Dr Madaan is offering half price 90 -minute

consultations at her Beaconsfield clinic for a limited

time only, or a complimentary chat online. You deserve

to feel confident in your skin again - inside and out.

Book now and take the first step towards healthier,

happier skin.

EDUCATIONAL NEWS

Building strong

self-esteem in girls

In today’s world, children - particularly girls

- face a range of challenges that can impact

their self-esteem and mental health.

Societal pressures and the influence of social

media make it essential to foster a strong sense

of self from an early age. This year’s Children’s

Mental Health Week theme was: Know Yourself,

Grow Yourself; highlighting the importance of

self-awareness. Understanding who we are and

what we feel enables children to handle life’s ups

and downs with confidence.

Self-awareness helps children build a positive

self-image. Schools play a vital role in supporting

mental health, offering safe spaces to explore

emotions and develop coping strategies. Through

emotional literacy programs, mindfulness training,

mental health check-ins and counselling services,

schools can create an environment where children

feel supported. Girls particularly benefit from

opportunities to express themselves through

extracurricular activities, peer support and

leadership roles, which boost their confidence

and resilience.

For families currently thinking aboout applying

to schools, the decision between single-sex

and co-educational environments matters. In

single-sex education, girls benefit from a more

focused and supportive environment, where their

voices are amplified and they are encouraged to

thrive academically, emotionally and socially. With

no gender barriers, girls are more likely to pursue

a wide range of subjects and leadership roles,

knowing they have the space to grow. In co-ed

schools, while the dynamics may be different, girls

can still benefit from diverse interactions, learning

how to navigate mixed-gender environments

with resilience. Choosing a school with strong

wellbeing support, empowers girls to embrace

their individuality and build strong self-esteem as

they are making their way in the world.

Making their

world an

adventure.

At Maltman’s Green, we’re dedicated to nurturing every girl’s potential, right

from the start. For our youngest pupils, we inspire a sense of adventure

through outdoor learning, encouraging them to explore, experiment and

discover. Whether they’re building dens, searching for mini-beasts, or

creating art from natural materials, every activity helps foster resilience,

creativity and confidence. Together, we’re making their first steps fearless

and building the belief that they can achieve anything.

EYE NEWS

Choosing the right

sunglasses for your

lifestyle

Sunglasses come with a variety of lenses

and tints, each offering specific benefits.

Polarised lenses are ideal for reducing glare from

reflective surfaces like water or roads, providing

clearer vision and reducing eye strain.

Mirrored lenses feature a reflective coating that

reduces light exposure, making them helpful in

bright conditions.

Photochromic (or transition) lenses automatically

adjust to changing light - darkening in bright sunlight

and clearing indoors - offering convenience across

varying environments.

Gradient or graduated lenses have a darker tint at the

top that gradually becomes lighter toward the bottom.

These are great for protecting against overhead

sunlight while maintaining clarity for reading or driving.

As for tints:

• Grey lenses offer true colour perception and are

suitable for everyday wear.

• Brown or amber lenses enhance contrast, making

them ideal for outdoor adventures and sports.

• Green lenses balance contrast and colour perception

and are perfect when there is bright cloud cover.

• Yellow or orange lenses are often used for skiing or

shooting to aid depth perception.

Choosing the right lens for your lifestyle is essential.

What’s been happening at

Beaconsfield Town Council?

As you receive this newsletter, the

local elections have just taken place

and we have 16 councillors, including

some new and some familiar faces,

elected to the Town Council for the

next 4 years.

Our Annual Town Council meeting will take

place on 15th May where the Mayor for the

forthcoming Civic Year will be elected.

Over the next few weeks, the new councillors

will be signing their Declarations of Office and

getting to grips with what the Town Council

does. Which, at this time of year, involves a

lot of mowing as the grass is shooting up! 18

months ago, we brought our Grounds Service

in-house and the feedback we’ve had from you

on this has been very positive and we hope to

keep improving our service.

We had a great turnout for our community

litter-pick on 22nd February, lead by Cllr Alex

Dunlop. He was joined by Cllrs Andrea Essery,

Paul Mason, Mohammad Khaled and Jackson

Ng along with members of the community.

Please come along to the next one on Saturday

28th June 2025.

One of our responsibilities at BTC is to

maintain St Mary’s Churchyard. The old

oak fence along Windsor End was very old

and needed replacing. That project has now

been completed. It looks great and will be

good for decades to come.

8th May 2025 sees the 80th anniversary of

the end of the World War II. We will be

commemorating VE Day 80 with an event at

the Memorial Garden on Windsor End, with

a concert band, choirs and speakers. Do

come and join together with the town to raise

a glass and enjoy some fish and chips at our

nostalgic event.

GARDENING

From Frost Fleece

to Flourishing:

Garden Tips

While May and June generally bring

warmer weather, late frosts can still

occur across the UK. Keep fleece or

horticultural fabric handy to protect

vulnerable seedlings (tomatoes, peppers,

courgettes, beans) overnight if frost is

forecast. Even a light frost can damage

or kill young plants.

• Harden Off Indoor-Sown Plants Gradually

to UK Conditions: Plants raised indoors are

accustomed to a sheltered environment. Before

transplanting them permanently outdoors,

gradually acclimatise them to UK weather

conditions over 7-10 days. Place them in a

sheltered spot during the day, increasing the

amount of time they spend outside, and bring

them back indoors at night. This process,

known as “hardening off,” prevents shock and

helps them thrive.

• Support Climbing Plants Early as They

Put on Spring Growth: May and June see a

surge in growth for many climbing plants like

sweet peas, beans, clematis, and climbing

roses. Provide support early on with canes,

netting, trellises, or wires to encourage them

to climb in the desired direction and prevent

stems from breaking in wind or under their

own weight.

• Deadhead Spring-Flowering Bulbs and

Early Perennials to Encourage Future

Blooms: As spring-flowering bulbs like

daffodils and tulips fade, deadhead them

by removing the spent flower heads. Leave

the foliage to die back naturally, as this is

how the bulbs replenish their energy stores

for next year’s display. Similarly, deadhead

early-flowering perennials to encourage more

blooms later in the season.

• Water Newly Planted Trees, Shrubs, and

Veg Regularly During Establishment: While

established plants become more resilient,

newly planted trees, shrubs, and vegetable

seedlings need consistent watering during

May and June to help their root systems

establish in the surrounding soil. Water deeply

at the base of the plant, especially during

dry spells, ensuring the soil is moist but not

waterlogged.

• Stay Vigilant for Common UK Garden

Pests and Diseases: With warmer and often

more humid conditions, May and June can

see an increase in common garden pests and

diseases. Regularly inspect your plants for

aphids, slugs, snails, blackspot on roses, and

mildew. Early detection allows for less drastic

intervention, such as hand-picking pests or

using organic pest control methods.

Sponsor the 20th

Beaconsfield

Country Fair

The 20th Beaconsfield Country Fair will

take place on Monday 25th August and

will once again offer a wide variety of

stalls alongside events providing fun for

all the family.

This popular charity event raises funds for

Cancer Research, Rotary, and the St Mary’s

Church Heritage Fund. Last year, the event

raised more than £15,000, thanks to the

amazing efforts of many volunteer helpers.

Special thanks go to our former Chairman,

Sylvia Jones, without whom the event would

not have been such a major success.

If you would like to sponsor the event, you

can promote your company by advertising

Have you ever checked the ingredients

skin, this matters even more.

In today’s fast-paced world, our minds are

constantly bombarded by emails, texts,

notifications, and social media. Adults and

children alike are experiencing stress, anxiety,

skin issues, and burnout. The digital overload

is real, and it’s affecting our well-being more

than we realise.

also wish to volunteer on the day — if so,

please contact the Chair of the Organising

The Country Fair takes place on Windsor End

in the Old Town, and is open from 11am until

4pm. The Town Mayor, with the help of Town

Crier Dick Smith, will officially open the event.

All-day parking is available for a nominal fee at

Prue Leith to

open charity

gala at Marlow’s

Pub in the Park

Culinary icon Prue Leith has been

announced as the guest of honour

to open this year’s Pub in the Park

in Marlow on Thursday 15th May. She

joins a celebrated line-up of previous

legends, including Mary Berry, Marco

Pierre White, Raymond Blanc OBE, and

Rick Stein, all of whom have helped

launch the much-loved festival alongside

its founder, chef Tom Kerridge.

The opening evening will once again be a

sparkling charity gala, raising vital funds for the

festival’s official charity, Meals from Marlow.

Guests can expect a star-studded event filled

with well-known faces from the worlds of food,

music, and television - coming together to

support a cause that has fed thousands in

need.

Originally launched during the height of

the pandemic, Meals from Marlow was

established by Tom Kerridge and the Pub

in the Park team as a temporary lifeline

for frontline workers. Five years on, the

charity has delivered its 250,000th meal,

continuing to provide support to vulnerable

people across the area.

To boost donations, organisers have

pledged that £10 from every General

Admission ticket purchased between now

and opening night will go directly to the

charity. For those wishing to go the extra

mile, Super Donor Tickets are available for

£300, with £250 from each ticket being

donated to Meals from Marlow. These

exclusive tickets also offer VIP access and

a premium food and drink experience.

Chris Hughes, Pub in the Park Co-Founder,

said: “We are thrilled to welcome Prue

to open our Gala Charity night. We’re

incredibly proud of how far Meals from

Marlow has come and remain committed

to helping those who need it most.”

Tickets are now available at

Scouts take

to the hills

Over 850 Cubs (aged 8–10), Scouts

(10–14), Explorers (14–17), and adult

volunteers took part in Buckinghamshire

Scouts’ Endurance events across the

Chilterns. Cubs hiked 10k, Scouts tackled

40k, while Explorers and some adults

braved 60k and 80k routes.

The Cubs began their 10k walk in Chesham at

9.00am, finishing in Great Missenden. All other

hikes started and ended at Great Missenden,

with the first teams setting off at 7.45am. Routes

covered parts of the Ridgeway National Trail and

looped through scenic parts of the county.

At the end of their 10k hike, Cubs Joshua, Leo,

Rafferty and Stanley said, “It was muddy with

lots of puddles. We really enjoyed it. We tried

to run down the hills to get a quick time.” They

described Cubs as “amazing, brilliant and fun.”

Event organiser and adult volunteer Clare Clarke

said, “When you see over 850 people challenging

themselves, it brings a smile to your face. Many

Cubs had never walked 10k before—earning their

Hikes Away badge is a big achievement.”

Lead Volunteer James Williamson added, “The

hikes are tough—whether due to distance or

walking in the dark. Around 200 volunteers helped

run the event, from checkpoints to transport.

Raynet-UK were also vital in keeping everything

running smoothly.”

Safe & gentle ear wax

removal at a clinic

near you

Microsuctioning

At Hearwego Clinic we provide instant and effective ear wax removal treatment. Microsuction is the gold

standard method of ear wax removal.

Unlike traditional ear syringing or irrigation, which uses water, microsuction uses gentle suction to remove

ear wax. This is a safe, gentle and effective method of ear wax removal and, in the majority of cases, provides

instant relief and immediately restores full hearing. Our Audiologists are trained in all methods of ear wax

removal, microsuction, ear irrigation (commonly known as ear syringing) and instrumentation.

What to expect at your appointment

At Hearwego our practitioners will use a microscope to see a detailed view of your ear canal and examine

the potential build-up of ear wax. Ear wax and debris are removed using a gentle device. Our appointments

include an examination of your ears and removal of ear wax using microsuction, which typically lasts between

10-30 minutes. Depending on the consistency of the wax, we may need to revert to ear irrigation (commonly

known as ear syringing) or instrumentation. In rare cases, a follow-up visit may be required to remove

particularly stubborn ear wax.

Are you experiencing any of the following?

• Pressure in the ears

• Blocked feeling in the ears

• Need to pop your ears but can’t

• Sudden loss of hearing or muffles sound

• Hearing aids whistling

• Underperforming hearing aids
