Choosing the Right Lawyer is No ACCIDENT- A Personal Injury Guide - By Jeff Adelman (2025 Edition)

If you are reading this, you likely have been injured as a result of a car accident or slipping or tripping on someone’s premises as a result of negligence. In the pages that follow, I will provide insight as to what you should expect from a lawyer (attorney) fighting on your behalf for personal injuries. This book is intended as a general guide if you are unfortunate to have had this happen to you. It has been with the least amount of “legalese” as possible, so you do not have to be a lawyer to understand it.

Choosing the Right Lawyer is No Accident

You are only allowed to have UM coverage if you purchase BI coverage.

For example, if you buy $50,000 in BI, then you are allowed to purchase

up to $50,000 in UM coverage.

There is a way to increase your Uninsured Motorist Coverage above your

bodily injury maximum limits. If you have more than one vehicle in your

household, you can purchase something called stacking. Stacking

coverage means that you can take the amount of vehicles in your

household and multiply the amount of coverage you currently have by

that number.

For example, by stacking, that same $50,000/$100,000 policy,

multiplied by three vehicles, turns into a $150,000 per person, $300,000

per accident policy in UM benefits. Whatever amount of uninsured

motorist coverage you have, you multiply that coverage by the number

of vehicles in your household. If you are already purchasing uninsured

motorist coverage, and you have multiple vehicles, this added protection

motorist coverage is critical even if it is not required insurance in your

state.

Now let’s discuss Personal Injury Protection coverage, referred to as

“PIP.” Every driver in Florida has to have PIP. It is required in Florida,

but the vast majority of states do not require this coverage. I will explain

how it works. Let’s say you’re in an accident, you’re hit from behind

and you’re injured. PIP coverage will be your first available

compensation. That’s the first $10,000 of medical coverage to pay for

any medical treatment needed as a result of injuries from the accident. It
