Artist statement

Hoe verbeelding en werkelijkheid zich met elkaar
verhouden en waar de oorsprong ligt van menselijk
verlangen zijn vragen die aan de basis liggen van mijn
denken. Verlangen is zoiets als verte. Verte nadert
niet. Elke stap naar de horizon doet deze wijken.Het
raadsel lost nooit op, blijft altijd openstaan en zoekt
verwachtingsvol naar nieuwe inhoud en naar een nieuwe
vorm.Verte is datgene wat niet hier is, maar ook niet daar,
tenzij het een richting aangeeft waar zich het denken op
richt. Dat kan voorwaarts zijn, maar ook achterwaarts.
Horizon strekt zich naar alle kanten uit.Verte is, evenals
verlangen, niet bereikbaar, maar is basis en uitgangspunt,
bron of doel, van waaruit het heden hier en nu wordt
ingekleurd en haar ultieme vorm krijgt. Dit is de filosofie
achter mijn werk.
weergave van de werkelijkheid is het zoeken naar een
beeldtaal waarmee ik beter in staat ben de echtheid en
intensiteit van mijn beleving weer te geven.
Ik zoek in de abstracte weergave van de werkelijkheid
het punt te vinden waar de oorsprong van de uiteindelijke
vorm ligt, de essentie der dingen als de kiem waaruit de
vorming plaatsvindt, het punt waar de vorm nog in haar
embryonale fase verkeert en weliswaar de structuur van
de wording wel aanwezig is, maar de ultieme vormgeving
in de ons bekende beelden nog open ligt en ontvankelijk
is voor een groot scala aan mogelijkheden. Deze
oorspronkelijkheid en de mogelijke ontwikkeling die
daaruit voortvloeit is voor mij een beeld van het leven zelf
en de processen die haar vorm geven.
Er ontstaat tijdens het schilderproces van alles wat wel
gestuurd maar niet van te voren bedacht is. Dit “organisch
schilderen” is voor mij van fundamenteel belang. De
werkelijkheid die er mee beoogd wordt is niet van te
voren al figuratief ingekaderd. Deze werkelijkheid is
eerder ongedefinieerd abstract van aard en het is het
verbeeldend vermogen van de mens die uit al deze
abstracte vormen zich een beeld gaat vormen. Mijn
werk bestaat uit twee delen: lyrisch abstract en abstract
expressionistisch. Wat mij beweegt tot een abstracte

How imagination and reality relate to each other and
where is the origin of human desire are questions that form
the basis of my thinking. Desire is something like the far
distance. The distance does not get closer. Every step to
the horizon makes it move. The questions are never solved,
remain unsolved and search expectantly for new content
and a new form. Distance is that what is not here and not
even there, unless it directs thoughts. That can be forwards
and backwards. Horizon streches in all directions. Distance
is, like desire, not accessible, but is basis and starting point,
source or goal, from where today - here and now - gets
colour and its ultimate form. This is the philosophy behind
my work.
as the seed where forming takes place, where form is still
in its embryonic phase and the structure of emergence
exists, but the ultimate form in familiar visuals remains open
and receptive for a large number of opportunities. This
authenticity and the possible developments that follow
from this, are to me a representation of Life itself and of the
processes that form it.
During the process of painting things happen that are
controlled, but not planned. This ‘organic painting process’
is of fundamental importance. The reality it aims to depict
is not visually framed in advance. This reality is rather
undefined abstract and it is the human ability of imagination
that forms an image from these abstract figures. My
work consists of two parts: lyrical abstact and abstract
expressionist. What motivates me to an abstract depiction
of reality is the search for a visual language that allows me
show the reality and the intensity of my perception.

point of origin of the ultimate form, the essence of things
