OUR VOICES
& THEIR STORIES.
As we step into the late spring and early summer, nature offers us a profound lesson in renewal and growth. The world
bursts into full bloom, urging us to pause and mirror its energy — embracing transformation, joy, and new beginnings.
In these months, the sun stays with us a little longer each day, inviting us to bask in its warmth and reflect on the light
within ourselves.
May this season remind you that growth, like the unfolding petals of a flower, is both a process and a celebration. Let us
honour this time by nurturing our spirits and planting seeds of intention for the months ahead.

ANGELS ARE
WATCHING
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
The shadows of evening gather and fill the empty spaces
The indigo of the late summer sky darkens to black
The peepholes of Cosmos have Angels' eyes watching
The gaze of eternity traces our steps
Follows our thoughts
Attempting to hold my breath and slow my pulse, I stand in awe of the stillness of movement, the
abandon of time
I'm almost not here, do I even exist?
The room I inhabit is smaller than void
A wording was stated, as somebody said "As Above, So Below".
But what is Above and where is Below?
Who is to say and how can we know?
The Angels are watching and we run hapless around.
We make no decisions and troubles abound.
With flailing arms and quite out of wits, we move to the edge of the forlorn abyss.
The darkness is deep but we march ahead, searching for gold and futile gain
"As Above, So Below". An expression of love and a wish for wisdom.
But we do not listen and our eyes are shut. We have goals for tomorrow but the future seems lost.
And the Angels are watching...

SUPPORT FROM
HYPNOTHERAPY
Sophia Steeden
Hypnotherapy is a powerful therapeutic tool that deals with the causes of
problems rather than the symptoms and is a safe and natural method of
treating a wide variety of conditions, for both adults and children.
Hypnosis is a state of total physical and mental relaxation (trance state)
and heightened awareness, which allows the conscious mind to be
bypassed, and leaves the subconscious mind open to receive positive
suggestions. The subconscious is the most dominant part of your mind. It
is nature’s complex computer that stores every feeling, event, and idea
you have ever heard, seen or felt. Whilst in a trance state, I can work with
you to make positive, beneficial suggestions to enable you to overcome
unwanted behaviours, habits, self-imposed limitations and phobias.
Many of us get a little anxious sometimes and this is perfectly natural in
certain situations, and helpful in others to keep us motivated to achieve.
However, anxious thinking can become habitual, and people can find
themselves in a state of constant stress and overwhelm. Long-term
anxiety and stress are not only unpleasant for the person experiencing it,
it's bad for their health too. Fretting, worrying and over-thinking can
really impact on an individual’s work life, social life, relationships and
sleep, as well as their ability to think clearly and make decisions.
For some, prescribed medication may be a short-term solution, but many
people don’t want to take pills, preferring instead to seek help to address
the problem through counselling, psychotherapy and increasingly
hypnotherapy. Therapy using hypnosis is a popular choice for those
seeking help for anxiety, stress and panic attacks, as hypnosis is quite
simply a state of deep relaxation; a state of calmness that all too often
eludes those who have developed anxiety disorders. Hypnotherapy is also
a ‘brief therapy’ which means that positive results can be experienced in a
relatively short space of time.
People who are experiencing anxiety are likely to be over-thinking; going
over and over real, imagined or exaggerated situations or fears, which
leads to negative thinking and behaviours. Sadly, anxious individuals
rarely focus on positive thoughts or happy events in their head, and
positive input from others is often dismissed, diminished or discarded.
6
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
So how can hypnotherapy help combat anxiety, stress and panic attacks?
Well, apart from being a deeply relaxed state, hypnosis can be an
effective way to change unhelpful thought patterns or negative, selflimiting
beliefs. During hypnosis our mind quietens down and our
unconscious (subconscious) mind is open to positive suggestion. In a
hypnotherapy session, after a fact-finding chat, you are taken into
hypnosis by listening to the hypnotherapist's voice talking gently, in a
way that lets the conscious mind go to sleep, which leaves your
subconscious mind listening and open to the positive, beneficial
suggestions that the therapist gives. The subconscious mind is the
automatic part of our thinking and behaviour, so these suggestions soon
become a part of your new positive behaviour to alleviate the anxiety
that you previously felt. At the end of a relaxing session of hypnosis,
clients often describe feeling lighter, clearer and able to ‘think straight’.
There are also many ways that we can help ourselves build resilience,
which will help us all to feel more in control; it’s important to…..
DRINK WATER: Keep hydrated – drink at least 1.5 litres a day; A
hydrated mind is a focused mind.
LEARN TO SAY NO: NO does not have to be a negative response.
This puts you back in control.
TAKE A BREAK: Taking a break from work helps you to re-energise;
5-10 minute breaks taken regularly thought the day can increase
productivity.
RELAXATION: Book time away for yourself and family; a day out, a
holiday or a weekend away. Take time to recharge your batteries!
HOBBIES: Spend time enjoying your hobbies; if you haven’t got any,
start to think about what you might enjoy trying or doing. These can
create healthy & positive thoughts for your mind to be focused on.
SLEEP: Sleep is very important; it’s a time to repair and restore our
mind and body.

THE PENDLE WITCH
TRIALS
Sue Penney
Here is an eye witness account of the Pendle Witch Trials
through the Eyes of Jennet Device
I was but nine years old when I stood in the great hall of
Lancaster Castle, my small voice the cause of the downfall of
my own kin. Yet, what else was I to do? They told me to speak
the truth, and so I did. But truth is a strange thing, shaped by
those who listen, twisted by those who seek to use it. My
mother, my brother, my grandmother—called witches all—stood
before me, their eyes filled with fury and sorrow. And I, little
Jennet Device, spoke the words that sent them to their deaths.
It all began with Alizon. My sister, proud and quick-tempered,
cursed a peddler, John Law, when he refused her plea for pins.
Soon after, he fell stricken, and whispers spread like fire in dry
fields. People feared we were a family of witches, that our
grandmother, Old Demdike, had taught us the dark arts. When
Alizon confessed, I knew it was the end. Not just for her, but for
us all.
They took Alizon, my mother Elizabeth, and my brother James
away. I stayed behind in Malkin Tower, our home, but there was
no safety there. A gathering at the tower—called a witches’
Sabbath by those who wished to see us burn—was reported to
the law.
Soon after, the men came, their faces hard and pitiless. They
took more of us, even those who had no part in the accusations.
Alice Nutter, a woman of standing, and Anne Whittle, known as
Old Chattox, found themselves accused alongside us. There
were whispers of spells cast in secret, of pacts made with the
devil under the cover of night. But I did not see these things
with my own eyes—only heard them, and that was enough for
the court.
8
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
The day of the trial came, and they placed me before them all.
The hall was grand, but cold. The faces of the judges loomed
above me like figures of stone, unyielding.
They asked if I had seen my family speak with spirits, if I had
heard them plot wickedness. And I, trembling but clear, told
them what I knew—or what they had told me was true. I saw my
mother’s face as she realized my words would seal her fate.
She shrieked, cursed my name, but it mattered not. Her fate was
sealed before I even opened my mouth. The court believed me,
a child, for what child would lie about such a thing?
One by one, they were sentenced. My grandmother, Old
Demdike, did not live to stand trial—she died in the damp
darkness of the dungeon. But my mother, Alizon, and others,
including Anne Whittle, Alice Nutter, and Anne Redferne, were
not spared. The gallows awaited them, and I was left behind, the
child who had condemned them.
They hanged them on Gallows Hill. The townsfolk came to
watch, their faces eager for justice or perhaps for a spectacle. I
was not there, but I heard the bells, the hush before the drop,
the cheers and murmurs of the crowd.
I did not cry.
Not then.
But the silence that followed me home was heavier than I could
bear. At night, I could still see my mother’s eyes, the way she
had looked at me in that courtroom. It was a look I would never
forget.
In the years that followed, I learned that my name was known
far and wide, though not in a way that brought me comfort.
Some called me brave, others a traitor. But what does a child
know of treachery? I had spoken the words they wanted to
hear, the words I had been told were true. I had not known the
weight they carried until it was too late.
9
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
Now, years have passed, and I wonder if I was a puppet in a play
written by men who wanted witches where there were none.
I was a child, and they listened to me because I gave them the
story they wished to hear.
But in the long nights, when the wind wails through the trees, I
hear my mother’s voice still. I hear the words she spoke in court,
her cries of protest, her curses upon my name. And I wonder if
the devil’s work was ever in Malkin Tower—or if it was in the
halls of the court, where truth was bent to fit the will of those
who held the power to judge.
The trials are spoken of still, though the truth of what happened
has been buried under fear and time. I have lived with their
ghosts ever since.
And as I sit alone, I wonder if one day, the world will remember
us not as witches, but as women who fell to the cruel hands of
justice made blind by fear.

SEERS OF POWERFUL
LEADERS
Sue Penney
Throughout history, seers — individuals believed to
possess the gift of foresight—have played pivotal roles in
guiding monarchs through the labyrinth of governance,
warfare, and diplomacy. These enigmatic figures, often
revered and sometimes feared, served as intermediaries
between the mortal realm and the divine, offering counsel
that could alter the fate of entire kingdoms.
The Seer in Ancient Civilizations
In ancient cultures, the roles of king and seer were often
intertwined. Monarchs not only ruled but also performed
priestly duties, acting as mediators, between their people
and the gods.
For instance, in ancient Mesopotamia, the king was seen
as the chief priest, responsible for interpreting divine will
through various means, including dreams and omens. This
dual role underscored the belief that rulers were divinely
appointed and that their authority was sanctioned by
higher powers.
The Sibyls of the Ancient World
Among the most renowned seers were the Sibyls—
prophetesses in ancient Greece and Rome. These women,
often depicted as conduits of divine knowledge, provided
guidance that was sought by leaders and commoners
alike. The Sibyl of Cumae, for example, is famed for her
encounter with the last king of Rome, Tarquin the Proud.
She offered him nine books of prophecies at a steep
price; when he refused, she burned three and offered the
remaining at the same price. This pattern continued until
only three books remained, which Tarquin finally
purchased. These Sibylline Books became treasured
sources of divine guidance for Rome, consulted in times
of crisis to seek the favour or direction of the gods.
12
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
Seers in Celtic Tradition
In Celtic culture, seers, known as 'fáith,' held esteemed positions within society. They were believed to
possess the ability to interpret omens, dreams, and signs from the Otherworld, acting as bridges
between the human experience and the mysteries of realms beyond. Their counsel was sought in
matters ranging from warfare to governance, and their prophecies often shaped the destinies of
individuals and communities.
The Norse Völva
In Norse mythology, the völva was a female seer who practiced 'seid,' a form of magic associated with
prophecy and divination. These seeresses held significant influence, with their prophecies guiding
decisions on matters of war, exploration, and succession.
Even the chief god Odin sought the wisdom of a völva to gain insights into the future, highlighting the
profound respect and authority these seeresses commanded within Viking society.

Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
The Seer as a Symbol of Divine Connection
The reliance of kings and queens on seers underscores a
universal desire to connect with the divine and seek guidance
beyond the tangible world. Seers, with their perceived ability
to transcend the ordinary and access hidden knowledge,
became indispensable advisors, their insights shaping the
course of history in ways both subtle and profound.
Modern Leaders and Spiritual Guidance
While the influence of seers may seem like a relic of the past,
modern powerful leaders have also sought guidance from
spiritual advisors, mystics, and psychics. Figures such as Adolf
Hitler were known to consult astrologers and clairvoyants in
shaping military strategies.
Winston Churchill, deeply interested in mysticism, allegedly
consulted mediums during World War II. Even in the United
States, President Ronald Reagan and his wife Nancy relied on
astrologer Joan Quigley to determine the timing of political
decisions and international engagements.
Beyond politics, business magnates like Steve Jobs and Oprah
Winfrey have openly spoken about seeking spiritual insight
and intuition-driven decision-making, demonstrating that the
need for guidance beyond the material world persists.
Conclusion
The intricate relationship between monarchs and seers
reflects a timeless quest for understanding and control over
the uncertainties of life and governance.
By heeding the counsel of those believed to possess divine
insight, kings and queens navigated the complexities of their
reigns, their legacies intertwined with the mystic visions of
the seers who guided them.
Even in modern times, powerful figures continue to turn to
spiritual guidance, revealing an enduring belief in the unseen
forces that shape human destiny.

ARCHANGEL MESSAGES
AND COLOURS (3)
Carol Coggan
Introduction
The Angels have asked me to share cards from the
Angels and Auras deck. It is worth emphasising
how to use these cards, even if you have seen
previous issues.
As you look at the Archangel cards, notice the
colour of each Archangel and notice especially how
you are affected by that colour. I have also drawn
an accompanying card for each specific Archangel.
Sit quietly, focus on your breathing, as a way of
clearing your mind. Call in your Guardian Angel and
Angels, and really look at the cards and see what
speaks to you. The Angels may speak through
colour, or a particular word or parts of the image.
The Angel message may vary depending on when
you look at the card, so hopefully you are still
working with Archangel Sandalphon and Archangel
Uriel (red) from the January/February issue and
Archangel Raziel and Archangel Raphael from the
March/April issue.
You will see the message varies for you specifically,
although you are reading this in the Alchemical
Voice.
You will also see on the card some positive words,
and then some negative words upside down. These
negative words are the shadow side, and if you find
you resonate with these negatives, then you can
definitely work with the Archangel to heal and
transform to the positive energies.
16
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
May and June
How refreshing it feels as you look at this card of
Archangel Chamuel. Archangel Chamuel has stepped in
to work with you specifically in these months. He is the
Archangel well known for finding things, and if you look
closely, you will see he is holding a magnifying glass.
There are many accounts of how Archangel Chamuel
helps you find things. If you have lost something, ask
him to help you, ask him to keep the item safe, so that it
can return to you. Listen to his advice on where to look,
even if you have looked there previously, or think it is a
strange place to look. Trust his guidance.
Another way is not just finding things but helping you
to seek. This may refer to things, but it could also refer
to your life‘s purpose, or the way forward in a particular
situation, perhaps seeking your soulmate. Archangel
Chamuel is the Archangel of personal and global peace,
he helps us release anxiety so that we can connect with
the joy of life. With peace comes the words on the card
happiness, vibrancy, energy and hope. Perhaps this is
why I feel it is refreshing, as Archangel Chamuel can
refresh your life in many ways.
Light Green is the colour of enthusiasm and change. It
emphasises hope and joy and is optimistic, creating a
zest for life. It reinforces the feelings of refreshing, so if
you do nothing else just look at the card to absorb the
colour.
The card that has come forward with Archangel
Chamuel is Self-respect and Worthiness. Look at all the
positive words on the card that you can say to yourself.
This is about appreciating yourself and having a sense
of value and worth. The positive words on the bottom
include independent and motivated. When you think
about Archangel Chamuel, he is all about change,
enabling you to be motivated and feel that you can
move forward with a high sense of worth. There are
many ways of valuing yourself, this can be the way you
speak to yourself (control that critical voice!) to how
much you charge in monetary value for your
services/goods. Another way of valuing yourself is
loving yourself and appreciating the unique person that
you are.
17
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
Archangel Zadkiel has stepped into work alongside Archangel Chamuel. This card shows him with the
world in one hand and a compass in the other. This is about balance and direction, and of course the
words below indicate destiny, pride, conscious, forgiveness. If you call upon Archangel Zadkiel to help
you with balance, he will guide you towards forgiveness. If you think about it, it is not about forgiving
others, but forgiving the issue and forgiving yourself. This will enable you to have balance and not be
too heavily burdened with negative and judgemental thoughts.
Archangel Zadkiel is also known for his work with memories. If you reflect on the past, you can at times
focus on the negative memory. Archangel Zadkiel helps you balance your memories, forgiving yourself
for the action taken and enabling you to reclaim the memories as a positive.
The word pride is mentioned, and often we are told not to be proud; but think about the word, and
whether you are proud driven by your ego and self-satisfaction, or from a loving viewpoint. For
instance, we can be proud of our children, which is not ego driven, but an acknowledgement of how
much they offer the world.
The colour for Archangel Zadkiel is purple and he is surrounded in a lavender field. What does this
mean to you? The perfume of lavender helps with stress, and the colour purple is the colour of
leadership and destiny. If you see purple you know Archangel Zadkiel is working with you and that you
are exactly where you need to be; even if faced with challenges, this is part of your Divine plan.
18
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
The card that Archangel Zadkiel is bringing in is the
Law of Attraction. Just to reiterate, the Law of
Attraction is like attracts like. What you think about
and focus on comes into your life. Similarly, what
you resist persists, if you are resisting a thought or a
person, you are focusing on it, and therefore you are
attracting more of the same. So if Archangel Zadkiel
is helping you with memories and destiny, you will
be looking into the future and your life purpose.
What would you love? As you focus on it, the Law
of Attraction brings into your life all the people and
situations to help you move forward. Consider your
thoughts, ask the Universe through Archangel
Zadkiel for the direction of your life purpose and
focus with diligence, take action, however small in
the direction you wish.
We have now Archangel Chamuel helping us change
and find our life purpose, we have Archangel Zadkiel
enabling us to balance our past, building on the
change of Archangel Chamuel and focusing on our
destiny. Both Archangels are helping you to create
YOU - your unique self.
We are really building up a strong support of Angels
over the last six months. I hope you enjoy working
with them and if you want to know more about
working with the Angels and the Universe, please

THE STORY OF
TALIESIN
Julie de Vere Hunt
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
Excerpt 2:
Owain, the Chief Druid of Ynys Mon (Anglesey), is telling the Story of Taliesin
to five year old twins Anna and David, who recently arrived in Ynys Mon with
Mother Mary:
Taliesin was originally known as Gwion Bach, Little Innocent, and was a
servant of Ceridwen. Ceridwen lived with her husband Lord Tegid by
Tegid Llyn (Lake Bala) with their two children. Ceridwen was a woman of
power, some said a goddess, others a witch. The daughter was
exceedingly beautiful and her father doted on her, but he could hardly
bear to look at his ugly son Morfran or Avagddu (Utter Darkness).
Determined that if her son could not be handsome, then at least he could
be inspired and enlightened, Ceridwen studied the books of the Druid
alchemists known as the Pheryllt, and mastered the secret art of brewing
a Cauldron of Inspiration; three drops of which would bestow the
knowledge of all things past, present and future upon her hapless son.
When she had all the ingredients, she filled a cauldron with fresh water,
into which she added herbs and roots, gathered at specific times of the
day and night, to be boiled for a year and a day. At the end of that time,
there would be three magic drops in the potion – whoever drank the
three drops would know everything!
To tend the fire beneath the cauldron Ceridwen needed servants, and by
chance she came across an old blind man wandering through the forest
led by a young boy. The blind man recognised Ceridwen at once –
knowing she was neither witch or mortal, but the white Goddess of the
moon and the harvest blade. He was called Morda, Sea-Father and was
guided by Gwion Bach. Ceridwen hired them immediately.
For a year Morda and Gwion gathered firewood and tended the cauldron,
stirring the simmering brew with a huge wooden spoon ensuring the
mixture never boiled over, adding fresh water whenever needed. They
passed the time telling each other stories, and playing Gwyddbwyll – an
ancient board game older than chess.
24
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
Ceridwen warned them never to taste the brew. The Pheryllt had told her, ‘Remember, the first three
drops bring the Bright Knowledge you seek for your son, but the rest of the brew brings only
Destructive Knowledge and misery to all it touches.’
On the eve before Avagddu was due to receive the three sacred drops, Ceridwen and her son returned
to the cottage and seated themselves besides the cauldron, barely acknowledging Gwion and Morda.
Mother and son soon fell asleep. As midnight approached, Morda sensed the fire dying down and
ordered Gwion to toss more logs beneath the cauldron. The mixture spluttered and boiled over. Three
drops flew on to Gwion’s thumb, scalding it, and instinctively he sucked them from his burning skin.
There was a great cracking sound as the cauldron split in two, releasing the brew which ran from the
house to the nearby lake, poisoning both the water and surrounding land. In that instant, Gwion knew
everything. He knew Ceridwen would wake and try to kill him. He ran from the cottage, hotly pursued
by Ceridwen, who was screaming with rage that sent shudders down Gwion’s spine. She ran so fast she
was within inches of seizing him by the throat. Just as her long fingernails began to press into his flesh,
he used his new magic power to change himself into the fastest animal he could think of – a hare.
But Ceridwen also had the power of
shapeshifting and changed herself
into a black greyhound, running
after him, getting closer.
Just as the greyhound rushed
forward with snarling mouth to seize
the hare, the hare jumped into a
fast-flowing stream. Gwion became
a salmon, with silver scales and a
strong tail, swimming swiftly
towards the ocean. But Ceridwen
had transformed herself into an
otter, who could swim as fast and
would tear him apart with her claws
and eat him with her needle-sharp
teeth.
25
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
Just as her otter’s claws reached his tail, he leapt out of the water
and changed into a crow. Beating the air with his wings, he lifted
his body out of the water and high into the air. But Ceridwen
turned into a hawk and moments later was soaring high above
Gwion, ready to dive bomb him.
Suddenly, Gwion spotted a pile of winnowed grain, and thinking
that she would never spot him there, turned himself into a one
wheat-seed just as his bird body hit the soft pile of grain. But
Ceridwen flew to the ground and changed herself into a fat black
red-crested hen. With magical precision, she thrust her beak into
the pile and picked and swallowed the one grain among thousands
that was Gwion Bach.
26
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
Ceridwen returned home triumphant. But the seed quickened inside
her, and for nine months he grew inside the womb of the goddess
who had tried to destroy him. Ceridwen was determined to kill
Gwion but when the baby was born, the child was so fair and
beautiful, she could not find it in her heart to kill him. She placed the
child in a leather bag, sewed it closed and through it into the sea.
For nine months the bag floated on the water, with Gwion
journeying with his soul between this world and the next, finding
secrets, learning songs. Gwion was held in the womb of the ocean –
feeling the love of the Moon goddess in the ebb and flow of the
tide, feeling the power of the Sky god in the breath and power of
the wind. And all the while, Gwion was travelling towards his foster
father Elffin – who was also travelling to meet his destiny – to meet
the foster child he would soon find, caught in the salmon-weir of his
father Lord Garanhir.
Garanhir had wanted to help his son Elffin, who was smitten with ill
fortune his entire life. He sent him down to the weir he owned on
the eve of Beltane, the 1st of May. But Elffin did not find a single
salmon. Elffin sank to his knees with despondency, when he noticed
a leather bag caught on one of the poles that held the nets.
Elffin lifted the bag out of the water and sliced it open with his
dagger. He gazed in amazement at the baby before him. He
exclaimed, “Behold, Taliesin!” And the baby boy sat up, smiling,
gazed directly into Elffin’s eyes, saying “Taliesin it is!” as the name
means ‘radiant brow’.
Elffin carried the boy home to his wife. They raised him as their
own, and with each year his wisdom grew tenfold, so that when he
was thirteen, he was the wisest and greatest poet in the land.
Even the great Druid Merlin once said,
“Since I, Merlin, am second only to Taliesin, let my words be heard
as truth.“
The story can be seen as an alchemical tale. Alchemy is the process
of turning base metal into gold, and alchemists have pursued this
process both in a physical and metaphorical, spiritual way. Its roots
are in ancient Egypt. Its purpose was to engender spiritual rebirth
through the creation of a new golden body of light, out of the dense
physical body, which was compared to lead or the dark soil. In the
story of Taliesin, Avagddu symbolizes lead and Taliesin the
transformed being of golden light. And there are other themes from
ancient Egypt woven into this tale.
27
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
“The story of Gwion’s rebirth as a poet-shaman is
reminiscent of the initiation rites in the mystery schools. In
ancient Egypt, initiates had to pass through the twelve
hours of the night, corresponding to the sun’s sea journey
below the horizon. Their emergence was like the dawn’s
rebirth each morning. This underworld journey took the
candidate into the realm of the Great Goddess as receiver
of the souls of the dead and giver of new life. On his/her
return, he/she was said to be ‘twice-born’, that is, first born
of a human mother, then reborn of the goddess. In this
story, Gwion is ‘thrice-born’, for after Ceridwen has given
birth to him, she casts him into the ocean, another feminine
symbol of primordial Being. The number three was sacred
to the Celts and the Druids, just as the power of the brew
was contained in three drops.
“One of the central images of alchemy is the union of man
and woman, which is sometimes depicted as the
conjunction of sun and moon. On first glance, Taliesin is
about a mother wanting to help her ugly child, but it is also
about the moon looking for the sun, the goddess looking
for her God – about the yearning in each one of us for
completion, for Union.
“And the story begins with the search for Awen – the
magical elixir of inspiration that brings illumination and
wisdom to whoever tastes it. Awen is the goal of every
Druid.”
Who really was Taliesin? No one knows, although he lived in
the 6th century and served both Bran and King Arthur. Some
say he lives on now and it is the spirit of Taliesin that inspires
the Welsh people to be such accomplished singers, actors and
poets.

INTUITION
Shaeen Svanede
What is intuition?
It is a natural built-in system that has kept
humankind alive for millennia. Yet today, it is often
dismissed as fantasy.
Animals have instincts while human beings have
intuition. But is there really a significant
difference?
We all have an inner voice that tries to reach us
through the noise and blur of everyday life.
Some of us are willing to listen and act accordingly
while others may question its validity until that
voice becomes an inaudible murmur.
There is nothing wrong with being logical, but why
not use all of our abilities?
One powerful way to reconnect with this inner
asset is through meditation. Over my 40 years of
practicing and leading meditation groups, I have
experienced extraordinary moments.
The more I delve into this practice, the more
amazed I am by the depth of knowledge that we
carry within. It is simply a matter of believing in
what our minds and bodies already know.
Allow me to share some of these experiences.
30
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
The Geishas
During a meditation group session, a
woman asked: "Does anyone here speak
Japanese?"
We all shook our heads. Japanese is not
commonly spoken in Sweden. She continued,
"In my meditation, I found myself in a temple
with geishas. They greeted me politely and
served me a tray of mint leaves."
"Do you have gastritis?" I asked, knowing that
mint can soothe stomach issues.
"Yes," she replied, surprised. "Then, the geishas
bowed and served me tea, repeating the same
phrase over and over."
She said something that sounded like Japanese, and
it occurred to me that I could use Google Translate. I
reached for my phone and asked her to repeat the
words.
We were all stunned when the translation came back
as "tea ceremony."
The truth of the moment was undeniable.
Through meditation she had come to such a relaxed
state of mind that an important message from her
inner voice had gotten through.
This could not have been a product of imagination
or wishful thinking, especially since the woman
did not speak Japanese.
31
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
The Mistletoe
During one of my drum meditation sessions, another
woman shared her story: "I entered a grand hall with
people having a feast. At one end of the table was a
bearded man with blond hair. Beside him was a
beautiful woman wearing a crown. She approached
me, holding a sprig of mistletoe in one hand. I do not
know who they were, but the experience was very
strong and powerful."
The next day I received an email from the
woman. She had been researching the
details of her meditation and wrote:
"I now know who they were — it was Balder and his
wife, Nanna. Balder was killed by Loki with an arrow
made from mistletoe. Nanna is known for easing the
pain of those in deep grief, which certainly applies to
me."
It became clear to me, though I was surprised that I
had not made the connection myself the night
before. Perhaps it was essential for her to discover
this message on her own.
This experience reaffirmed my belief that our
ancient gods are still with us. They are
part of the universal knowledge
that is accessible to everyone.
But the story did not end there...
The woman called me a few days
later: "Seven years ago, I had a
brain hemorrhage and I have
been on antihypertensive
medication ever since. I never
liked the medication and have tried
to find an alternative.
While researching mistletoe, I learned that it can
help reduce blood pressure!"
32
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
Once again, I felt humbled to be part of this
revelation.
I do not reject medical science, but I believe we
should also pay attention to what spontaneously
arises.
We should not overlook the importance of
integrating ancient knowledge, intuitive insights and
modern science.
After all, we are all unique and what works for one
person may not work for another. It is time to
embrace and harmonize all that we know. And what
could be wrong with taking a daily stroll through our
inner landscape?
Who knows what our inner voice will reveal next
time.

“Ambulance.
Please hurry. It’s my
sister” Robert blurted out,
the terror and panic quite
obvious in his fast delivery
of the short sentence.
“What’s your location,
please” the call responder
asked.
“The end of Vine Lane,
Stoke D’Abernon, where
the path to the river is.”
He looked at Richard as if
for confirmation. Richard
nodded, his eyes wide and
his features pinched in
concern.
“Please hurry,” Robert
added, a sob catching in
his throat.
“I think she might be

The last was a plea

PATHWAYS TO
BLISS
John Sjovik
In the 1970s, I had a mini calculator which showed oldfashioned
boxy numbers on the little screen. A party
trick was to do a calculation that ended up with the
number 55178. Then, when you turned the calculator
upside down, it said BLISS on the screen. There are
many roads that lead to bliss. Using your ancient mini
calculator may be one of them...
The content of my bookcase is archaic enough to
include several English to English dictionaries. One of
my dictionaries states that ‘bliss’ means ‘perfect
happiness’ or ‘great joy’.
At least in the West, we often relate happiness and joy,
hence what we wrongly perceive as ‘bliss’, to material
things or momentary fulfilment of our senses. We have
bought something on sale, we have just fallen in love,
we have finished a 10k run or we have played hide and
seek with our cat. Yet, there are many - and more
profound - qualities to bliss and this article aims to
discuss some of them.
Poetry, epitaphs and ads
One of the first English poems I memorised was ‘I
Wandered Lonely as a Cloud’, by William Wordsworth
(1807). Towards the end of the poem are these lines:
‘For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils’
36
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
Wordsworth talks about ‘that inward eye’, meaning visual
memory and how it is the bliss of solitude. In this case, bliss is
a sense of comfort for the poet, when he in his melancholy
mood reflects upon the daffodils that he once saw on a
beautiful day.
In a pure form, bliss is a state of harmony and confidence; a
feeling that all is well with the world and all will continue to
remain well. In Wordsworth’s poem, the feeling hinged upon
the memory of the daffodils. One could say that bliss, for him
was connected to a sense of hope.
There is a sublime quality to bliss that is well worth striving for.
Recently, I visited an old church. As was common, there were
stone slabs on the floor with inscriptions on them. Most of
them were the typical type of epitaphs of people who had died.
But one of the inscriptions caught my attention. The text was in
17th century Swedish and it ran something like this, with my
translation: ‘When all was at its best, life was still a struggle’.
Clearly, bliss does not necessarily mean the absence of struggle
and grief. You can actually be in a state of bliss and still face
hard times in life. As a matter of fact, facing hard times is easier
if you experience bliss.
We are easily caught up in mainstream ideas of happiness. The
other day, I walked by a shop with a sign in the street outside
the entrance. The sign advertised some of the products on sale
and it was headlined – in capital letters – ENJOY YOUR
ADDICTIONS. The idea of happiness as a state, when you
relish in your addictions with unbridled enthusiasm, is quite
astonishing.
Language and bliss
Let us for a moment return to the definition of the concept of
‘bliss’. The way some words are used in everyday language and
catch phrases, in books and magazines, in ads and commercials,
in television, and many more places can easily give an
impression of a certain meaning that may not always be true.
Also, keep in mind that language is a form of communication
that constantly develops and changes. It is influenced by
demographic changes in society, current trends and an
increased internationalization of media and culture.
Happiness is really a peculiar word, easily confused with
‘satisfaction’, ‘contentment’, ‘harmony’ and similar concepts.
37 43
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
Many years ago, when I enjoyed an introductory course in
Shamanism, I realised that a fundamental prerequisite for health
and a feeling of ‘bliss’ or ‘happiness’ was a state of balance and
of not lacking any of the life essence that you need for
maintaining life.
It is well worth being reminded that many people are essentially
not looking for happiness or even bliss. What they strive towards
is not being hurt. They want to avoid suffering, being anxious or
in pain. To experience bliss seems like a luxurious premium.
When I was a boy, I often felt that I was invisible. Grownups
seemed to not pay much attention to me. These days, that
childhood memory is very vivid for me and when I am with
children, I make an effort to really see them, to show them that
they are indeed visible. Yet, in nature there may actually be a
real danger connected to being visible. A predator will seek out
the odd animal, the one that stands out for one or another
reason. Regrettably, this is often the case with people as well.
When I was a school boy, I was often given assignments I did not
want to have, simply because I always looked attentively at the
teacher.
So when the attention seeking child grows up and reaches
adulthood, the adult will often want to be invisible and be left
alone. When you become part of a group of people, either at
work or in a sports club, you want to dress like they do. The
stripes on a zebra only work with other zebras. A zebra in a
group of horses will not be a success story. It wants to stay
inside the herd and blend in, as so often do people.
You might be successful by being visible. Regrettably, you might
also be dead.
Wisdom from my spirit guide
‘You need to be what you want to become and you need to be
where you are.’
I remember an interview with an actor who played a character
who was tall. This was a clear challenge for the actor, because he
was a short man. In the interview, he explained that he prepared
for the role by imagining himself as tall. He observed tall men
and studied how they walked and moved. Then he tried to
emulate that pattern and behave as if he really was tall. He
needed to come across as taller than he actually was, so he tried
to ‘be’ tall.
38
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
If you want to be successful, happy, confident, brave or
possess a particular quality, an easy approach is to begin
imagining yourself as having those qualities. And to begin
doing that already today. Your new life does not start
tomorrow or next year. It starts today.
This is really what my cat is doing naturally, without effort
or need for definitions or explanations. To be in a state of
inner calm and balance. To feel trust but not necessarily in
anything in particular. Simply to trust the vibration you feel
within yourself and knowing that what feels right most
probably is right.
Bliss and my cat
As I am writing this, I can hear the soft snoring of my cat,
sleeping peacefully on the footstool in front of me, resting
her little head on my leg. She is waiting for the hour to
strike 3 pm, when it is time for her dinner. Regardless of
what happens in the world, she is clearly in a state of bliss. I
maintain that she feels bliss even in moments when she is
worried about something. Her inner state of bliss allows her
to be worried without losing her security and sense of being
safe.
By observing my cat, I gain a deeper understanding of the
meaning of bliss, in the true sense of it.
Bliss is not the absence of struggle, of worry or concern. By
being in a state of bliss, my cat is well equipped to go on
explorations, seek out the unknown and even take a
calculated risk.
So what is bliss really?
The Greek philosopher Plato said that “the most important
thing in life is not to have the most, but to need the least”.
It is profoundly important to be true to oneself. It may
sound obvious but being true to oneself requires at least
some understanding of who you really are. This is a vast
topic and I will come back to it in a separate article. For the
time being, let us simply state that we all have layers upon
layers of superficiality that effectively hide what we truly
are. We need to find ways to peel away those layers to
gradually reveal and expose our genuine selves.
39
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
There is a concept of a ‘spiritual contract’, that you supposedly agreed to before you were born. Most
importantly, it includes an agenda for your life. We are all born with a clean slate and without a
conscious knowledge of any pre-conceived ideas. There are various approaches to gain at least a basic
understanding of what your agenda includes. There is meditation, shamanic journeying, prayer, going
on a pilgrimage, sacred dancing, sweat lodge, vision quest and much more. The idea is to distance
yourself from the humdrum of everyday life and allow an exploration of your inner self in order to find
your inner truth.
As I see it, a state of bliss is to be where you are supposed to be and do what you are supposed to be
doing. This also reflects what my spirit guide told me, as I mentioned above.
I think many people have experienced the feeling of déjà vu at least once: experiencing something for
the first time but having the sense that they somehow remember being there before. I put it to the
reader that déjà vu is a moment when you briefly come into contact with your agenda; your true self. It
is a reminder from beyond time of something you agreed to do or maybe already did and need to do
again. You might call it a cosmic intervention in your life, a gentle nudge towards the path that is right
for you. That path – your path – has been there all the time. The thing is to become aware of it and to
follow it.
To follow your path is to follow your bliss.
40
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
When you feel bliss, you experience harmony, a sense of balance, an
inexplicable feeling that this is just right. It is often a moment devoid
of tension or struggle. It is an inner feeling that what you are doing
and where you are is the right choice for you. It can be in that
particular moment or a sustained feeling; it can be watching a sunset
or having found the right occupation. It is that special moment when
you simply ‘know’.
From a philosophical point of view, bliss can be associated with
enlightenment. There is a sense of detachment from material things
and the temporary quality of earthly matters. Instead it is about having
a sense of spiritual awareness and feeling a connection with the great
mystery.
Bliss and blisters
Joseph Campbell, the American author, professor of literature and
much more used the phrase “Follow your bliss”. He was often
misinterpreted and he finally regretted the expression and jokingly
said that he should have phrased it “Follow your blisters”.
To lead a life with a foundation in bliss is definitely not to attempt to
emulate the dictionary’s description of ‘perfect happiness’ and ‘great
joy’. Focusing only on things that will make you happy will eventually
lead you astray.
There is a lot of truth to Campbell’s joke about blisters. When you feel
that you are on the right track, that track can often be narrow and
difficult to navigate. Keep in mind Robert Frost’s famous poem about
taking the road less travelled.
To follow your bliss is not an easy path to take. You will have to be
prepared for clashes with societal trends and with suspicion from
other people. That which is right for you may not always be on par
with current fashions and narratives. I know from personal experience
that people may often question your decisions, your ideas and even
the way you dress (as happened to me). You certainly need to be
prepared for blisters, maybe not physically but mentally and
spiritually.
Bliss and the ‘AUM’ sound
Bliss is not an intellectual state. It is not of the mind. Any explanation
or attempt at exploration of the concept of bliss in a rational or logical
sense is bound to fail. Bliss is beyond words. It is beyond thoughts.
41
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
I mentioned above that bliss is about connecting with the great mystery, about experiencing the
association with enlightenment.
Think of the famous AUM sound. This mantra has been called the sound of the Universe. It is used in
yoga classes all over the world and it inhabits a sacred quality.
It is actually composed of four parts: A, U and M, with the fourth part being silence. There is silence
before you chant the AUM sound and again silence when the chant finally peters out.
When chanting AUM, you go through a cycle, from beginning to manifesting to ending and then into
silence, only to experience a new beginning arise from the silence and the chant entering a new cycle.
It is about connecting your own consciousness to universal consciousness and to realize that they are
interconnected.
It is all one.
It is pure.
It is Bliss.

PARALLEL
LIVES
Martin Lewis
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
Parallel Lives as a concept can be traced back to
Plutarch in the Roman era. Plutarch was a philosopher,
historian, biographer, and essayist, and explored his
subjects’ characters, and their responses to situations
and events as free and responsible individuals. He
concentrated on specific crucial moments in their lives
where they faced difficult decisions, when right and
wrong were not obvious in specific situations.
Plutarch’s goal in his biographies was to present
readers with examples of conduct to imitate and to
avoid in their own lives. Plutarch’s Parallel Lives
therefore has important insights into liberty and
responsibility.
In psychology, parallel processing is the ability of the
brain to simultaneously process incoming stimuli of
differing quality, and the choice of the resulting
behavioural output. We can see this when we say a
person acts ‘like Jekyll and Hyde’. They are literally
behaving as two people, often in relation to the same
situation.
The psychoanalytic label of ‘schizophrenia’ suggests
contradictory behaviour, thoughts and approaches
which are eccentric, or at least irrational!
In spiritual terms the concept of parallel realities
suggests that the universe consists of countless
coexisting dimensions, each containing different
versions of ourselves. These versions lead lives that
reflect the endless possibilities shaped by our choices,
thoughts, and energies. Stephen Hawking’s multiverse
theory is relevant here. It appears that we CAN be
literally two people (or beings) at once!
44
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
The German language utilises the word ‘doppelgänger’ - in English this translates as ‘double goer’. In
essence, it is an apparition or double of a living person. In this sense it is the energy of spirit being
‘interwoven’ into two (or more) beings, and the influence that this has on each other’s health (and life).
So, it appears that there are different types of parallel lives. They can be simultaneous lives of the same
soul in two different beings overlapping in time, or in the same timeline, on Earth or elsewhere. They
can be very different personas, living in different parts of the ‘multiverse’, where they never meet, but
have a very real energetic effect on each other.
One theory suggests that only an advanced soul would choose to split its energy into another being,
human or otherwise, and leave a percentage of this energy somewhere else. I would argue that how
‘advanced’ the soul has become is irrelevant when specific situations require different choices.
Example: A client presented with the inability to sleep (insomnia) and worry about money. She was
always trying to help others out, and realised that this was due to her lack of self-worth and esteem.
She always felt better after helping someone out. She is an adept therapist and very talented in this
area.
45
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
After a shamanic reading she was told that she had ‘a
double’ living in Arkansaw, USA who was a gambler,
and ran a saloon in the Wild West in the 1800’s.
This lady (the double) lost all she had (the saloon) on
the throw of a dice. The presenting issue for the client
was that she was unable to take risks with money,
could not make decisions easily about spending
money, felt she needed to save, and thought she
would never have enough money for her old age. She
also worried about her family when they had money
problems.
What was revealed was that the client had a spiritual
‘split’ - in that her soul energy was in her but also in
the lady in Arkansaw!
It was as if the soul had ‘decided’ to inhabit two beings
simultaneously, with the experience of one influencing
the other, hence the concept of a ‘parallel life’. This
arrangement was apparently for the highest good of
both.
One being needed to endure the pain of loss, while
the other could address this for the benefit of the
soul. Interwoven with this was an influential belief
passed down from the client’s mother, who held that
'money makes the world go round.'
This belief instilled in the client a sense that having
money was 'vital' and that spending it was a recipe for
disaster. It was as if the three 'energies' involved were
all playing a part in the client’s issues.
Another example: A client presented with a feeling of
being two people. He described it as ‘feeling like I am
split in two - down the middle’.
He was refusing to care for himself and others, was
missing school (he is 15), and was having recurring
nightmares of a person (female) who is ‘slack-jawed’,
wide eyed and grabs him. It is terrifying and it wakes
him up. He also suffered headaches on the right
temporal area and pain in the feet. He presented with
a pronounced lean to the left and pain in the trapezius
muscle in his neck as a result.
46
Alchemical Voice - L2M - Issue 32
Testing revealed a corpus callosum imbalance (the part
of the brain that enables the hemispheres to
communicate and decisions to be made) and all his
chakras were ‘blown’.
The ‘parallel life’ was relevant to his sister Rose (the
name the spirit had chosen) who was aborted by his
mother. Rose felt deserted by him, (she was the
woman in the dream). The balance required going back
to 1756 when Rose was his mother. She had made him
believe that he needed to hold the family together,
and also that he had to look after her. A superstition
showed as a sabotage, which was ‘you have to look
after your mother’. It appeared that his response was
to NOT look after his mother (in the present) or
himself, hence (in Plutarchs terminology) the ‘proper’
conduct of responsibility was ignored. It also meant
that he felt undeserving of money and material wealth
in this life.
It appears that the parallel lives issue can be
multilayered and multifaceted, and potentially
challenging to unravel. It can include past existences,
psychological trauma and a whole host of spiritual,
mental and behavioural issues.
The good news is that it can be resolved

I GIVE MYSELF THE
GRACE OF GRIEVING
Hannah Gauss
There is a false sense of morality attached to the idea that graceful grieving is a sign of emotional or spiritual
maturity. It works along the lines of always needing to see the reason why things are going wrong, or forcing
spiritual practices like gratitude when right now you don’t feel grateful for anything. We focus so much on
emotional regulation and look for a spiritual practice that catapults us from painful experience to having
processed the lesson, that we miss how important the messy parts actually are.
Don’t get me wrong, true spiritual practices and beliefs can make us more resilient when facing hardships, but
they do not make us immune to them.
Emotions are messy, in a good way. Even though we like to think we can control them, belittle them, push them
away or avoid them altogether, they eventually return to the surface. Because emotions are a reaction to what
you are experiencing, they carry important messages from your subconscious about your state of well-being and
your environment.

That’s why emotions are always valid, but not always true.
‘Feeling your feels’ is the most radical act of self-love. When you let the raw, unedited emotions come up and
start listening, you can trace them all the way back to where they came from in the first place. You will find the
parts of yourself that, since childhood, you were told are too much, wrong or shouldn’t exist. When you bring
your awareness to those aspects, you provide them with a safe space to speak up and reintegrate these parts.
Suddenly being upset about a messy house is not about the mess but about our sense of powerlessness. A
rejection from a job is a sense of not being good enough and grieving a partnership is belief that we are
unlovable.
The messiness is the process – lying in bed and avoiding the world, screaming in the pillow and the nagging
fear of uncertainty.

The answers you seek will come naturally to you by going through it. It’s a law in this universe that what you
give awareness to must change because now it’s no longer suppressed. There is no trophy to be won from
forcing yourself to suffer with grace.
True grace, or true love, is allowing yourself to be whatever you are right now.
When you let yourself truly feel your feels instead of suppressing them, for fear of judgement or rejection from
others, you have a chance to make peace with yourself.
It all begins with asking yourself: “how does this make me feel?” and giving yourself the space to process
whatever it is that you are going through in the best way you can. Even if you admit in the words of the great
Taylor Swift: ‘I didn’t have it in myself to go with grace’, the answers will come, and you will make it through.
Hannah is a Shamanic Practitioner living in the
ancient East of Ireland, reminding people of how
powerful they always were.
