AL-SIQ - PETRA

S O U V I N E R P R O D U C T

Introduction

The project focuses on designing a unique and innovative tourist souvenir inspired by the

city of Petra, particularly emphasizing the experience of walking through the Siq. The

goal is to create a product that encapsulates the emotions and architectural beauty of

the Siq, translating it into a decorative yet functional item.

Concept Development

Initially, the research centered around the gods of the Nabateans and the rich historical

narrative of Petra. However, during the process, it became evident that the Siq—with its

dramatic curves, towering walls, and historic water channels—is underrepresented in

souvenir products. This realization shifted the focus toward creating a design that

captures the essence of walking through the Siq, reflecting its physical and emotional

impact on visitors.

Concept Development

Sketches and Ideation:

● Initial sketches explored abstract and

literal representations of the Siq.

● Ideas ranged from miniature models of

the Siq to symbolic designs capturing its

curves and flow.

● The concept evolved into a parametric

structure, emphasizing the path’s

curves and the surrounding walls.

● The journey

through the Siq builds

anticipation,

culminating in the

breathtaking view of

the Treasury.

● The Siq’s winding path and towering

walls create a unique, immersive

experience.

● The Siq’s winding path and

towering walls create a unique,

immersive experience.

Parametric Design Approach

● The structure

reflects the aerial view

of the Siq path, with

flowing, curved walls

inspired by the canyon’s

natural formations.

● A water-flow

feature was

integrated into the

design to symbolize

the ancient water

channels within the

Siq. The movement of

water visible from all

angles enhances the

interactive and

storytelling aspect of

the product.

● Parametric design

techniques were used

to achieve a continuous,

fluid form, mimicking

the Siq’s dynamic

geometry.

Introduction

By studying product design fundamentals, I explored how humans form emotional

attachments to shapes beyond functionality. My research focused on the psychological

process behind product selection, revealing that people are drawn to unique forms with

deeper narratives. Inspired by my sentimental connection to Wadi Rum, I studied its

mountains—their horizontal forms and layered connections—to create a design that

embodies their essence.

White Rum Sandstone

Purple Um Sahn Sandstone

Basalts or Granite

Wadi Rum mountains consist of

three layers, each layer taking its

shape through exposure to

erosion processes over time.

Concept Development

Function

The product consists of

two layers, and using

the self-watering

technique allows me to

connect the two layers

into one standing

shape that serves the

concept purposes, and

gives an easy way to

serve the function.

This layer stores water and

irrigates the soil through thread

ropes. A glass panel on top

allows water level visibility.

The First layer

Soil pot

The Second layer

water tank

The agricultural layer holds soil without

needing irrigation, with side ventilation

holes for aeration.

Prototype

Viewed from above, the intersecting angles

of the layers symbolize the movement of

wind and the impact of water in shaping

Wadi Rum’s mountains. These natural forces

influenced the product’s form, ensuring both

functional efficiency and an aesthetic

deeply connected to its concept.

SEDRA INCENSE

I N C E N S E B U R N E R P R O D U C T

Introduction

Rooted in ancient Egyptian rituals, this incense holder embodies the elegance and

spiritual significance of pyramid structures. The design features sharp geometric lines

and symmetrical forms, reflecting the aesthetics of the Pharaohs while offering a

functional, modern piece. Using minimalist yet refined materials, it bridges the past and

present, honoring Egypt’s cultural heritage while enhancing contemporary spaces with a

timeless and meaningful design.

Concept Development

Function

This design features two interlocking layers: an inner layer for bakhoor and an outer

one for the Mabkharah. Inspired by the pyramids, it blends geometric elegance with

the cultural richness of ancient Egypt.

Embedded magnets ensure stability and

precise alignment, forming a cohesive,

pyramid-like shape. Each layer serves a

function while uniting to honor ancient

Egyptian architectural elegance.

Prototype

For the package visuals, I selected a color

palette that conveys subtlety and luxury, using

it to depict pyramids in the background. This,

paired with a discreet logo placement, gives

the design an elegant, refined feel. Additional

elements were added to capture the broader

inspirations and historical depth behind the

design.

The exterior of the final

package is made from wood to

highlight its natural elegance,

while the interior is lined with

iron for heat protection, as

wood is flammable. Note: The

prototype was initially crafted

entirely from wood.

RAMADAN DAYS COUNTER

I S L A M I C W A T E R C L O C K F O R R A M A D A N

Introduction

The Ramadan Water Clock blends lunar symbolism with modern design to guide spiritual

reflection. Inspired by the crescent and full moon, it marks time through flowing water

and subtle lines—encouraging mindfulness in prayer and devotion throughout the holy

month.

Concept Development

3D RENDER

The design is split into

two halves, reflecting

the Islamic lunar

calendar. The upper

crescent symbolizes

the start of Ramadan,

gradually filling to a

full moon by the 15th

day, while the lower

half marks the journey

toward the month’s

end. The slow water

flow mirrors the pace

of Ramadan,

encouraging prayer,

reflection, and

spiritual connection.

This visual and

physical passage of

time invites users to

engage mindfully with

their faith throughout

the holy month.

Prototype

Lines on the front mark the water level, gently reminding users of time spent in reflection.

Small air-release holes control the flow, adding intention and reverence. This clock

becomes more than a timekeeper—it’s a tool for deepening spiritual connection.

This clock serves as a symbolic guide during Ramadan, aligning mind, body, and spirit.

Blending Islamic art and science, it merges timeless design with sacred purpose, reflecting

the divine rhythm of faith.

Font Design

The Arabic font "Cracks" was inspired by the road cracks commonly seen across our

country. Spending a lot of time traveling between different regions, I observed the

unique patterns and textures formed on the roads. These journeys and experiences

sparked the idea to create a font that captures the character and story of these

landscapes.

Font Design

While exploring the history of Arabic fonts, I discovered a typeface that closely aligns

with the concept I’m developing. Its visual language and stylistic elements resonate

deeply with my design approach, offering both historical significance and aesthetic

harmony. This connection not only reinforces the authenticity of my idea but also provides

a rich cultural foundation that I can build upon and reinterpret through a contemporary

lens.
