Water-based Printmaking

In this class you will learn a variety of water-based

printmaking techniques, including woodcut, rubbing

transfer, direct painting on silkscreen, monotype, and

more. In Chinese woodcut aqueous pigments are

applied with a brush to the carved woodblock and

printed through gentle rubbing. By controlling the

brushing, and painting multiple layers, one achieves

subtle and softer effects, very different from Western

oil-based printmaking. This principle translates

beautifully to silkscreen, monotype and other

techniques.

Material fee for first class: $10. Instructor will provide

supplies for the first class and discuss what else

students will need for the session. Some tools will be
