BY RELUCTANT GENIUS

This months featured Artist has created quite a bit of stir over the last couple of years, but one things for sure he’s

on pace to set the all-time record for the longest run at number one on country radio.

It seems with every discretion he’s caused his numbers keep growing. There’s been

quite a few rebels in the music industry, some good and some not so good so who

knows what might lay ahead for today’s country’s bad boy. There’s a little bit more

about our feature and what’s made him what he is now.

Morgan Wallen, an American country music singer-songwriter, has found himself at

the center of numerous controversies throughout his career, influencing public

perception and raising questions around accountability in the music industry. His

ascent in the country music scene has been marred by a mix of personal and

professional discrepancies that challenge the facade of stardom.

One of the most notable incidents occurred when Wallen walked off the stage during

a live performance on "Saturday Night Live" in 2020. Scheduled to make his debut on

the iconic show, Wallen’s appearance was cut short after he violated COVID-19

protocols by attending a crowded party in Alabama prior to the performance. This decision

not only disappointed fans and the show's producers but also raised alarms about public

health responsibility. It led to a public critique of Wallen's judgment, showcasing a

recurring theme in his career—one marked by impulsive behavior and a lack of foresight.

In addition to the SNL incident, Wallen's reputation suffered a significant blow due to

allegations of inappropriate behavior and his use of racial slurs. In early 2021, a video

surfaced that captured Wallen using a racial slur while in a suburban setting with friends.

The fallout was immediate and severe; numerous radio stations halted airplay of his

music, and he was suspended indefinitely by his record label, Big Loud Records. This

incident sparked a broader conversation about racism in country music and the industry's

responsibility to hold artists accountable for their actions. While Wallen later expressed

remorse and sought to educate himself, the episode marked a pivotal moment in his

career, bringing to light the ongoing challenges faced by artists in navigating their

public personas.

Despite these discrepancies, Morgan Wallen has enjoyed considerable commercial

success. His debut album, "If I Know Me," released in 2018, showcased his unique

blend of country and pop elements, earning him a loyal fan base. Subsequent releases,

including the double album "Dangerous: The Double Album," solidified his status as a

prominent figure in modern country music, breaking streaming records and topping

charts. His ability to connect with fans through relatable lyrics and emotive storytelling

has facilitated a level of forgiveness from some fans, allowing him to maintain a

successful career despite the controversies.

In conclusion, Morgan Wallen's journey reflects the complexities of celebrity culture in

the music industry, where talent can sometimes overshadow personal failings. While his musical contributions have

been significant, the discrepancies surrounding his behavior highlight the need for accountability and reflection in

the lives of public figures. As Wallen continues to navigate his career, it remains to be seen how he will address

these challenges and evolve as an artist.

These days, many people are rescuing pets. A rescue is an animal that was: neglected; abandoned; abused; part of a

mill or overpopulated residential domain; a stray; or found after a natural disaster. All of our cats & dogs were rescues.

Only one is still on God's Great Earth; our most recent, Hamlet, our beloved Prince of a Canine. We got him from Paws

& Claws on 10/18/14, from a rescue bus in a state-provided rest & park lot off I-84W Exit 1 in CT. All the other dogs

on the bus were so excited to see their forever family, it was a joy to see. Poor Prince, as he was called at the time, was

so terrified that the bus driver had to physically pull him out of his crate, as Hammy, as we call him now, pissed all

over his hands & arms & legs & torso. Of the six categories of rescues...Hammy was all of the first four. They told us

he was 9 months old. He was at most 6 months. Our Beautiful Boy just turned 11, and has early heart disease but is

doing well, thankfully. [My regular readers will recall in my review of “My Dead Friend Zoe” from March's

StaticLiveMag that we lost our cat Marnie on 12/18.] Hammy's healed: physically, emotionally, psychologically.

Everyone loves Hammy. But when we got him, he was dreadfully frightened by men; especially men in boots. I was

the first man we know that he trusted. You couldn't sweep the floor or he'd FREAK! Loud noises, especially fireworks,

which he still hides from...were worse! We know he was tied for an estimated 6 weeks to a deserted trailer (legit

trailer, not a manufactured or mobile home) in Arkansas along with a whole bunch cats &

a guinea pig. He survived on rain water, acorns, and his own shit! Our conclusion: while

tied there, some man or men would kick & stomp him with their boots; hit him with sticks

& poles, and otherwise beat him; and shoot at him! I ask you: What form of human filth

could do this? To anything? EVER? He came to be Hamlet when we transitioned him away

from that name we assumed he'd associate with evil...Prince...which we called him for a

couple hours...to Prince Hamlet and by the end of the day, just Hamlet: A Prince among

creatures! I had to teach him how to eat wet food, soft food, human food; he was afraid to

try anything but treats. The first human food I gave him was that same day. We got home

and I roasted fingerling potatoes. Once they were cooked, before they crisped, I took one

out, halved it, and let it cool. I threw it to him. It hit him on the head; he had no idea how

to catch. I picked it up and put it in his mouth. I guess he didn't like the texture. He spit

it out, and we LOL'd, which he also didn't like! He knows now how to & loves to catch food,

loves human food, loves life, loves all of you that he knows or has never met, loves love.

“All you need is love!” Hammy Bone is the embodiment of LOVE! One could argue that the

unconditional love of pets is mainly the bailiwick of children, but I promise you this: Hammy will NEVER be

neglected, abandoned, abused, part of an overpopulated residential domain, a stray, or found after a natural disaster.

No matter the disaster, I will rescue him from it! Even if, to get to him, I have to battle...a paranoid, xenophobic,

axe-wielding traditionalist in 19th Century Romanian warrior armor, like Maxim (Willem Defoe) in Isaiah Saxon's

first feature, “The Legend of the Ochi”. Maxim is the single father of two teens, his daughter Yuri & adopted son Petro

(Helena Zengel & Finn Wolfhard). They live in rural Carpathia, a fictional, wintry mountainous island. Maxim takes

it upon himself to train the boys of the village as warriors to combat the Ochi, a largely nocturnal animal species who,

before fully developed, look like The Gremlins. Maxim doesn't include Yuri in the training. She, after all, is a girl, and

his bigotry extends beyond fear of The Ochi. He riles up his trainees with tales of the Ochi savaging livestock and

threatening their lives. One night while on a hunt for the Ochi, which Yuri is allowed to attend but not be part of

(which suits her fine), their attack leaves a baby Ochi (a puppet, voiced by Paul “The Birdman” Manalatos) separated

from the tribe. The next morning, she checks her father's traps, finds him caught by the leg, injuring it pretty badly.

Yuri, a defiant renegade, brings him back to her room, gains his trust, and attends to his wound. She vows to Petro to

return him to his family. Emily Watson rounds out the main cast as reclusive Dasha. The film, which premiered at

Sundance on 1/26, as of this writing has yet to be released. It's scheduled for wide release on 4/25, after being delayed

from its scheduled 2/28 release date because Saxon lost his Southern CA home to the January wildfires. “The Legend

of the Ochi” was beautifully shot from 11/1/21 – 12/15/21 in Transylvania. It's about empathy, a human quality in short

supply these days; perfect for the moment. A24 and 4-Star!

* Paul hosts The Hub on Canal's monthly Movie Night, co-sponsored by NSB's La Terraza Mexican Grille and Chase's

on the Beach, both of which, along w/ Cinematique of Daytona Beach, donate Raffle Prizes.

I don’t know who I would be without music. For me, music has been a close companion

my whole life. From the old rock songs that my dad raised me on, like All These Things

That I’ve Done by The Killers, to the music that accompanies me in my day-to-day life,

like songs by Taylor Swift and Lord Huron, music makes me feel understood. There’s

just nothing better than getting into the car and putting on my favorite songs or

discovering a new song and knowing it’s going to be part of my life and who I am. I’m

just forever grateful for music.
