Notes for the conductor:
While a large portion of the piece is written in 7/8, the main theme is felt better in 4/4 (i.e. measures 27-36,
etc.), hence the frequent time changes. The continuous syncopation in all voices is designed to have a
resemblance of the 7/8 feel even while playing in a more common time signature. Trust yourself and the
players to keep this groove going in either time feel.
Unless notated otherwise (slurs/tenuto), players should assume that all quarter and eighth notes are to be
played with separation and bounce. Notes with written staccatos are to be extra separated while still
maintaining pitch integrity.
About the composer:
Moriah Margaret Jensen (b.2000) is a music educator and composer based in Minnesota. As an educator,
she is dedicated to providing her students with a holistic and high-quality music education, and as a
composer she aims to connect people to one another and the broader world around them. Her music has
been performed around the United States and in programs featured at the Minnesota Music Educator's
Association Midwinter Clinic (2025). When not teaching and writing music, she enjoys spending time with
family, friends, and her two cats (Ernie and Sylphrena).
