WELCOME TO THE VERDE VALLEY

Welcome

When you visit the heart

of Arizona wine country,

you’re sure to find many

reasons to stay, play, and

return again and again.

Located in the ‘heart’ of Arizona, the

Verde Valley is ideally situated above

the heat of the desert and below

the cold of Arizona’s high country.

Surrounded by jagged mountains to

the south and west and by mesas and

buttes to the north and east, its lower

elevation makes it a perfect destination

for your next Arizona adventure.

Explore the rich history and native

culture with a visit to one of many

historic sites and national monuments.

Soak up the sun and nature at one of

Arizona’s many state parks located

in the Verde Valley. Hit the trails

throughout the Verde Valley on foot,

bike, or horseback, and keep your

eyes peeled for birds, wildlife, and the

perfect shot to share with friends and

family back home.

Discover the many dining options from

smoked BBQ, fresh-made pasta, and

hearty home-cooked meals to rich

desserts and locally made chocolate,

and the perfectly paired wine or brew

to wash it down with. Rest easy and

dream of more days in Cottonwood and

the Verde Valley at one of many hotels,

bed & breakfasts, campgrounds, RV

sites, and more.

The Verde Valley is a destination for

visitors of all ages. Family-friendly

activities inside and out, shop for

antiques, jewelry, and unique souvenirs,

sip wine and gaze at the views, explore

the outdoors morning, noon, and night,

or plan your visit around one of many

signature annual events.

Birding

The Verde River is home to over 200 migratory and resident bird species, making it one

of the most diverse and productive birding locations in the US.

The Verde Valley boasts several Audubon Important Birding Areas (IBAs) such as Lower Oak Creek, Tuzigoot, and

Camp Verde. These IBAs are located near water and attract nesting birds and migratory species that stop in the Valley

during their seasonal journeys. Spring is the peak season for birding, but bird enthusiasts can still spot a variety of birds

throughout the year in the area’s canyons, grasslands, and elevations. Whether walking a path, meandering along the

riverbank, or hiking up a canyon, birdwatchers are sure to catch a glimpse of the resident or visiting birds. verderiver.

Annual Birding Festivals

Described as “the friendliest birding festival,” the annual Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival is an excellent

opportunity to explore birding alongside other enthusiasts. The event takes place on the last full weekend of April each

year and provides a great way to experience the growing hobby of birding. verderiver.org

For hummingbird enthusiasts, the Sedona Hummingbird Festival is a must-see event during the first weekend of

August. This is the time when Sedona’s hummingbird population is at its highest and most diverse, with the chance to

see up to seven different species.

A Verde Valley excursion wouldn’t be complete without

a journey up the hill to Jerome, the “City in the Sky.”

Once a thriving mining camp of 15,000, Jerome acquired

“ghost town” status by the 1960s. Today, entrepreneurs

have restored many of the quaint buildings that cling to

the mountainside and the town now dishes out artsy

boutiques and panoramic views in equal measure.

Speaking of views, Sedona’s stark, giant, red rock

formations are so compelling, they cause grown

men to take up painting or poetry. Toss in dozens of

superb shops, galleries, restaurants, and recreational

opportunities, and Sedona has found a magical elixir.

Camp Verde (continued)

Roam Wild

Nestled against the Mingus Mountains in the Verde

Valley sits a 104-acre unique wildlife park – it’s not a

zoo. At Out of Africa Wildlife Park, you’ll experience

the splendor of the animal kingdom closer than you

ever thought possible, blending the spirit of Africa with

the harmony of nature. Whether it’s the exciting Tiger

Splash® show, the Predator Feed, or an immersive

safari tour that will have you surrounded by freeroaming

African plains animals, there’s something for

everyone here – all with the price of admission! If you’re

feeling a bit more daring, try the world-class Predator

Zip Line tour and soar over the animals. Other options

include the VIP Behind-the-Scenes tour, the SuperMog

Adventure Tour and more. Giraffe kisses are free! Open

daily 9:30am-5:00pm. outofafricapark.com

Play All Day (and Night!)

At Cliff Castle Casino Hotel, the fun never stops. Try

your luck at slots and tables, catch a show at Stargazer

Pavilion, or dance the night away at Dragonfly

a kids’ zone. cliffcastlecasinohotel.com

Savor the Flavor

Stroll down Historic Main Street and dine at one of 10

delicious restaurants — from BBQ and Mexican cuisine

to artisan bistros and award-winning Italian. Locals love

the BullPen Grill and Watering Hole, where the food is

hot and (on the weekends) the music’s live.

Don’t miss the Camp Verde Farmers Market on

Saturdays, May through October, on Holloman Street.
