WHY CALIBRATE?

When weighed against the potential risks, the cost of our accredited calibration

services is minimal, while the value it provides is significant. In critical applications,

poor tool performance can cause compromised safety and quality. SWA is dedicated

to delivering precision calibrations cost-effectively that allow the user to have

confidence in the quality, consistency and reliability of the crimp joints produced.

Calibration involves testing the pressure of your tool using a manometer, and this

pressure measurement test ensures that the tool operates at the appropriate level

of pressure for accurate crimping or cutting.

SWA is proud to maintain a highly respected testing laboratory and advanced

measuring equipment, specifically designed to carry out accurate crimp tool

calibrations in strict accordance with top industry standards.

TYPES OF TESTING

We offer two types of tests dependent on tool type, specification, and standard required:

TENSILE (PULL FORCE)

This “Pull Force” method ensures

that the crimped connections

comply with the current British and

European Standard (BS EN 61238).

We create three samples of different

cable and crimp sizes. A suitable

terminal crimped on a stranded wire

is loaded onto the tensile strength

(pull force) testing device. The pullout

tension is subsequently increased

at a rate of 25mm/min until the

terminal is pulled off the wire, or

the terminal fails.

Both types of test result values are

recorded in our database, a test

report and certificate accompany

every tested crimping tool.

PRESSURE GAUGE

The pressure test will ensure the tool

produces the recommended level of

force to enable the correct crimping

or cutting operation. Specialist dies

made to suit SWA’s range of battery &

hand-held hydraulic tools are used to

perform this test.

A pressure reading is recorded and

compared to the manufacturer’s

specifications. The test is performed

4 further times and the average

reading is recorded. If required, the

pressure is then adjusted. Certificates

note the gauge used for the test.

Gauges also undergo regular testing

to national standards and records

kept for traceability.
