STAY CONNECTED
THIS SUMMER
AT LC3!
Summer is a time for sunshine, rest, and adventure—but it’s also a great time to stay
connected and growing in community. At Lake City Community Church, we believe God
moves in every season, and this summer is full of opportunities to connect, serve, and grow
together.
Whether you’re brand new to LC3 or have been here for years, there’s something for you in
the life of our church. From summer events and weekly gatherings to service projects and
small groups, we hope you’ll take time to engage in meaningful ways. It’s a season to build
relationships, strengthen your faith, and discover how God is at work in and through you.
Inside this quarterly publication, you’ll find everything happening at LC3 this summer—and
how you can be a part of it. No matter your age or stage of life, we invite you to lean in and
find your place in what God is doing here.
As Hebrews 10:24–25 reminds us, “Let us consider how we may spur one another on
toward love and good deeds… encouraging one another—all the more as you see the Day
approaching.”
See you this summer!

SUMMER 2025
REDISCOVERING GOD ALEXIS & CECILIA GONZALEZ
I was born in Chile, a predominantly Catholic country
in South America. As a child, I was baptized into the
Catholic faith, but wasn’t really involved in the church
until my teenage years when I joined a youth volunteer
group at my local parish. I was searching for answers
but never found them. Later, as a father, I had my
children baptized in the same religion—more out of
societal expectation than genuine conviction. I also
didn’t fulfill my role as a father by introducing them
to God.
Today, three of my children believe in God but don’t
truly know Him, while one doesn’t believe at all.
When we moved to this country, it was for better job
opportunities. While trying to improve our English, we
met Tricia and Tyler Knack. One afternoon, as we got
together to get to know each other better, we asked
them about LC3—and what a moment that turned out
to be.
The first time I attended a service at LC3, I felt
something different—a unique connection, a
different atmosphere. I was moved to tears
by the worship; it felt like God was speaking
directly to me, and even
now, I still feel that way.
For the first time, I’m truly
communicating with the
Lord. I need Him, and believe
my eyes have finally been
opened. As it says in John
9:25: “One thing I do know:
I was blind, but now I see.”
Now, on Fridays, the only question on my mind is
whether I’ll go to the Saturday or Sunday service. On
Thursdays, we gather with English with Friends to dive
deeper into the Gospel while improving our English,
Sundays are for our prayer group, and once a month,
I volunteer during the Sunday service.
Today, I can say I’ve rediscovered the Lord. I know I’ve
lost a lot of time, and now I have a big task ahead of
me—both for myself and to bring my children closer
to God. There’s still a long road ahead, but I believe it
was the Lord who sought me out, and He won’t leave
me alone. Beyond that, this incredible LC3 community
inspires me week after week, and I’m so happy to be
part of it. May the Lord bless you all

OUTREACH - GLOBAL
FAMILY HOPE INTERNATIONAL VISION TRIP
October 10-19, 2025
Over 15 years ago, members of LC3 took action to slow the
orphan crisis in Ethiopia by supporting families trapped in
extreme poverty. Conditions were so desperate that some
mothers, unable to provide for their children, left them in
villages, hoping others would feed them.
God led Jeff Butler and Family Hope International (FHI) to
help these families—often single mothers—stay together and
work toward independence. A monthly donation of $50 to
FHI provides food, medicine, clothing, and shelter, allowing
mothers to care for their children. Additionally, small loans
empower these women to start businesses, supplementing
the support they receive from FHI.
Through partnerships with local Ethiopian churches, which
identify families in greatest need, our support is transforming
communities and opening hearts to the Gospel.
In 2015, a team from LC3 traveled to Ethiopia to meet the
women and children they had been supporting. Seeing
firsthand the impact of their generosity was life-changing.
Wouldn’t you love to meet the family you’ve helped?
From October 10–19, 2025, Jeff Butler is leading another
vision trip—an incredible opportunity to connect with these
precious women and children. If you’ve ever wondered how
your donations are making a difference, this is your chance
to witness it firsthand!

The evening ends with prayer for one another (this
is where it gets personal). Several months ago, one
of the men shared with me about being arrested and
imprisoned in Iran for several weeks for preaching
the gospel. We pray that all of us can learn new
relational skills and grow in understanding and
compassion for people who are different from us
but still need Jesus. For immigrant families, we pray
that they learn to navigate American culture and the
English language, and that God helps them find work
to provide for their families. Most of all, we pray for
all of us to be changed, to be more like Jesus in all
we do and say.

FROM LAKEWOOD TO THE NATIONS LURA ANDERSON
Your Global Workers
are REAL People!
Some of them
live right here in
Lakewood and work
with students from
Middle School
through College,
like Young Life and
Youth for Christ.
Others live across oceans, eat different foods, and
speak various other languages. Brian and I had the
great privilege of visiting three of LC3’s supported
families in Strasbourg, Berlin and Bologna this month.
We talked, laughed, asked questions, drank coffee, ate
gelato and loved getting a couple of days with each to
enter their worlds and lives. What fun it was to go to
a Nature Park and learn about storks, nutrias, and river
otters in France. Did you know that you can pet fish??
Sitting on the verandah with Nate and Jana Duriga,
we explored their joys and challenges as homeowners
and long-term workers there in France. Did you know
that their number one need to meet their hospitality
ministry is for a second restroom? We left our time
with them considering how LC3 might help them with
this project.
Bullet trains go VERY
fast. The reader
board on the train
from Strasbourg to
Berlin clocked us
at over 250 kmh!
We were met in the
Hauptbahnhof by
Luke, who navigated
the train/tram system to take us to our hotel at a
perfect location, Alexanderplatz. We had a view over
the vast city of Berlin. Luke and Jessica welcomed
us to their apartment for a real German breakfast of
meats, cheese, and delicious bread! We explored their
vision for reaching the diverse and lonely people of
East Berlin with an English-speaking place of worship.
We walked through several housing blocks on a warm,
sunny Saturday afternoon, with a playground beside
us, and marveled that we could see no one outside. Is
the oppression and fear of past regimes still hanging
over people who make no eye contact or engage in
conversation? We prayed together that God would
bring people of peace, whose hearts are hungry for
truth, across Luke and Jess’s paths. May the Lord bring
joy and peace into the lives of so many peoples from
many countries.
A short flight took
us into the land of
olive oil and gelato
where we were met
by Nathan, Martha,
Primrose, and Eden!
The last day of
school in Italy was
punctuated by much
joy and laughter. We were included in a celebratory
end-of-school dinner at an outdoor restaurant in the
hills above Bologna and felt very Italian! Learning
about adjusting to yet another culture and language,
after spending eight months doing the same in another
country, gives us a huge appreciation for this family’s
perseverance and willingness to do anything that the
Lord is calling them to do.
Once again, walks, talks,
great cappuccinos, and
questions helped us to
understand what is required
for Nathan and Martha to
use media to mobilize and
share the Good News. We
learned it takes lots of time
and resources to travel,
film, edit, and produce such
worthy media. Check it out

FINDING FAMILY
LAURA JACKSON
MALAWI MISSION
The Cadence and Shiloh ministries have been
an incredible blessing, providing much-needed
community during a season of deep transition
and loneliness.
I arrived in Washington in September 2020 for
an active-duty military assignment, right in the
middle of the COVID pandemic. Spiritually, it was
a difficult time. I felt isolated and adrift. But God,
in His kindness, led me to Jennessa Randall, who
then introduced me to RJ and Sabrina Prestwich
and their military ministry. From that point on,
everything began to change.
Being surrounded again by people who love Jesus
and live for Him brought renewal to my walk with
Christ. Over the past four years, I’ve experienced
steady spiritual growth—deeper devotion to
God’s Word, a stronger prayer life, and a heart
increasingly committed to serving others. The
mentorship and example of the ministry leaders
have inspired me to love Jesus more fully and
follow Him with greater purpose.
Through weekly Bible studies, retreat weekends,
and doing life alongside fellow believers, I’ve not
only gained a clearer understanding of God’s Word
but also learned how to live each day surrendered
to Christ. This ministry has brought incredible joy
and comfort. It’s where I met my husband, built
lifelong friendships, and witnessed fellow military
members come to know Jesus.
I consider the Cadence/Shiloh community my
family. I am truly grateful to God for leading me
to them and for all He continues to do through
this ministry.

OUR MISSION
Our mission as a church is to advance God’s Kingdom by
making fully-devoted followers of Christ in Lakewood and
the world. This mission comes out of the Great Commission
in Matthew 28:18-20 where Jesus commanded His
followers to make disciples of all nations. And that is what
a fully-devoted follower is: a disciple. Every ministry at LC3
is geared towards making and developing disciples.
