Hello and Welcome!

We are celebrating our 8th year anniversary - how

time flies! Thank you to all my loyal advertisers,

supporters and designer Mat, I couldn’t do it

without you!

As the golden days stretch longer and nature

flourishes around us, may we take a moment to

breathe in the blessings of the season. Summer

is a beautiful reminder that with a little light,

warmth, and care - life blooms.

We welcome the new team at Beaconsfield

Town Council, with both fresh faces and familiar

ones, and extend our heartfelt thanks for their

dedication to keeping Beaconsfield a wonderful

place to live, work, and grow. (See centre pages

for more.)

I’ve recently had the joy of sharing vegetables I

nurtured from seed in Cornwall with the lovely

Dove Café. It’s a gentle reminder that even the

smallest seed, given love, light, and intention,

can feed both body and soul. If you’re inspired

to grow something yourself, all it takes is good

compost, seeds, water, sunshine - and perhaps

a few kind words whispered to your sprouts.

Don’t miss the Country Fair on Monday 25th

August (p5) - a celebration of community and

countryside life! And for more events and ideas

to keep your summer vibrant, see page 22.

As always, if you connect with any of the

trusted tradespeople in this issue, do mention

Beaconsfield Together - your support helps

keep our community strong and thriving.

With joy,

Therese

Real answers to real questions to

help you move with confidence.

If a summer move is on the cards, here

are answers to some of the most frequent

questions I’m asked, plus a few tips to help

you get prepared for moving day.

How long does it take on average?

Most of my clients complete in 10 to 12

weeks. Some are quicker, and some are

slower, but it very much depends on the chain,

the paperwork, and how quickly everyone

engages in the process.

Why does it take so long?

There’s a lot going on behind the scenes. I’m

dealing with agents, lenders, searches, the

Land Registry and other solicitors, all while

making sure that everything stacks up legally

and that you’re fully protected.

FINANCIAL ADVICE

Are you moving house this summer?

What’s the difference between exchange

and completion?

Exchange makes the sale legally binding.

Completion is moving day. We usually allow a

week or two in between.

What’s a chain and why does it matter?

A chain means other buyers and sellers are

linked. Everyone in the chain has to be ready

at precisely the same time.

When should I get in touch?

Honestly? Early! Even before your offer’s been

accepted.

COMMUNITY NEWS

Protecting what makes Beaconsfield

special

Beaconsfield is known not only for

its warm, close-knit community but

also for its rolling countryside, ancient

woodlands, and peaceful green spaces

that offer a haven for wildlife and

residents alike. The Green Belt

surrounding the town is vital in

protecting its character and preventing

unchecked urban sprawl.

However, this green sanctuary is now

under renewed pressure. The national

government has tasked Buckinghamshire

with accommodating over 100,000 new

homes, and the implications for towns like

Beaconsfield are significant. Where these

homes are built - and whether they are

matched with adequate infrastructure such as

roads, schools, healthcare, and public services

- will affect the long-term wellbeing of the

community.

With recent shifts in planning policy giving

more weight to developers, local voices must

now be stronger than ever. Residents are

encouraged to engage directly with their local

representatives to help shape the future of the

town.

Ways Residents can take action

• Submit objections collectively:

Community-led campaigns and petitions

carry more weight and can help influence

decisions.

• Ensure accountability: When developments

proceed, residents and councillors must hold

developers to their commitments, particularly

around infrastructure and environmental

protection.

• Participate in Local and Neighbourhood

Plan consultations: These shape long-term

planning policy and benefit greatly from local

input.

Representing Beaconsfield

Following the recent local elections, Cllr

Jackson Ng has been re-elected as one of

two Unitary Councillors for Beaconsfield. He

currently serves on several Buckinghamshire

Council committees, including chairing the

Standards & General Purposes Committee.

His focus remains firmly on protecting

Beaconsfield’s character and ensuring

that any future growth is sustainable,

well-planned, and aligned with the

community’s needs.

To get in touch with Cllr Ng,

email: jackson@jacksonng.com

• Raise concerns early: Contact local

councillors as soon as a proposed

development is known - early intervention

is crucial.

• Attend planning meetings: Public

meetings allow residents to observe, speak,

and support objections to inappropriate

proposals.

EYE NEWS

Is your child becoming

shortsighted?

Have you noticed your child sitting very

close to the TV or squinting to see things

in the distance? These could be signs of

myopia (shortsightedness), a condition

that’s becoming increasingly common -

partly due to more screen time and less

outdoor play.

Myopia isn’t just about needing glasses. If left

unmanaged, it can increase the risk of serious eye

problems later in life, such as retinal detachment

or issues with the macula (the part of the eye

responsible for detailed vision).

The good news? There are now advanced options

to help slow the progression of myopia. Specialist

spectacle lenses like MiyoSmart or contact lenses

such as MiSight use cutting-edge technology to

manage the condition. Other approaches include

Ortho-K lenses, which are worn overnight, or specific

eye drops - though these are less commonly used.

Simple lifestyle changes can also make a big

difference: limiting screen time and encouraging

more outdoor activities can support healthier eye

development.

Early detection is vital. Regular eye checks help

your optician monitor for changes and protect your

child’s vision as they grow. If you have any concerns,

don’t wait - speak to your optician today.

Medical Aesthetic Treatments

Is Your Skin Holiday-Ready?

Why Dr. Madaan Recommends a Glow-Down,

Not a Glow-Up

As summer approaches, it’s tempting to squeeze in

last-minute treatments in search of a pre-holiday

glow-up. But at The Skin & Self Clinic, Dr. Madaan

encourages a different approach - one that puts skin

health first.

“Skin is more vulnerable after active treatments,” she

explains. “Peels, lasers and microneedling can make it

more sensitive to sun exposure, increasing the risk of

pigmentation, irritation and long-term damage. The

short-term glow just isn’t worth it.”

Instead of rushing into treatments before your trip,

Dr. Madaan recommends booking a pre-holiday AI

skin assessment. This advanced scan looks beyond

what you see in the mirror to reveal what’s really

going on beneath the surface, helping us create a

personalised treatment plan for when you return.

Patients are also welcome to visit the clinic for help

getting their sun protection regime right- something

that’s often more important than any treatment,

especially if you’ll be spending long days in the sun

or travelling with a baby. We offer medical-grade

SPF suitable for the whole family, including safe

and effective options for babies from 6 months.

Aesthetic treatments:

• Anti wrinkle treatments

• Full facial transformation with Swiss

dermal fillers: lips, chin, cheeks, jawline,

nose, temples,

• Polynucleotides and profhilo

skin boosters

• Exosomes

• Dark circles treatment

• Medical grade skin care and chemical

peels for acne, rosacea, pigmentation,

scarring, fine lines and wrinkles

• Vitamin facials

• Non surgical face lifting

• Fat dissolving

• Hair restoration

Medical treatments:

• Anti sweating treatments

• Anti grinding treatments

• Anti headache treatments

• Jaw clenching devices

• Anti snoring devices

• Dental treatments available on request

This skincare also helps strengthen and prepare your

skin for any treatments planned after your holiday,

giving you the best chance of long-term, healthy results.

So this summer, skip the quick fixes. Protect your skin,

enjoy your break, and come back ready to start your

journey with calm, clear direction- and a plan built just

for you.

What’s been happening at

Beaconsfield Town Council?

On 15th May 2025, at the Annual

Town Council Meeting, Cllr Anita

Cranmer was elected Town Mayor

for the next civic year and Cllr Alex

Dunlop as Deputy Mayor.

This meeting was also the first to include newly

elected Town Councillors; Cllr Richard Cook,

Cllr Chris Kirk, Cllr Chris Howse, Cllr Paula

Hashmi, Cllr Grace Winter and Cllr Will Story.

We are looking forward to the next four years of

this council delivering service to Beaconsfield.

The Mayor was presented with the mayoral

chain from the outgoing Mayor of Beaconsfield

2024/25, Cllr Paul Mason. Cllr Cranmer noting

what a wonderful Mayor he had been and

applauded his support, hard work and

unfaltering dedication to the town.

The week before Beaconsfield Town Council

hosted a VE Day 80 celebration on the evening

of Thursday 8th May 2025 on the memorial

green in the Old Town.

The evening’s celebrations were opened by

Town Crier Richard ‘Dick’ Smith and then Mayor

Cllr Paul Mason.

The town was entertained by Burnham Concert

Band, conducted by Musical Director Adam

Swift and the Accidental Harmonies Choir in

40s dress.

The bells of St. Mary & All Saints Church rang

promptly at 6.30pm, co-ordinated around the

country.

Attendees heard from Cllr Paul Mason, Cllr

Sandy Saunders BEM RD, and Phillip Sheahan,

Chair of the Beaconsfield Twinning Association,

who reflected on how Beaconsfield fundraised

during WWII, with such staggering support

(around £34.2m in today’s money) that the

Town received two commemorative plaques,

which were on display.

The Historical Society recorded over 30

memories of residents aged over 85 years,

Wycombe Sound radio station broadcast the

evening’s event live, speaking with attendees

and interviewing members of the Council to

ascertain why community events are important.

Thanks go to Bruno Peek CVO OBEOPR,

COMMUNITY NEWS

Exciting things are

happening at

Bekonscot this

summer!

Just around the corner from Bekonscot

Model Village & Railway sits the National

Film and Television School (NFTS).

Within this very exciting school, students who

are about to take their first steps into the film,

TV and video game industries learn how

to do everything that happens behind the

scenes. As well as learning how to become

directors, producers or screenwriters, students

can specialise in building amazing props and

tiny models for film and animation.

Some of NFTS’s famous past students include

Nick Park, the creator of Wallace & Gromit and

Mark Baker co-creator of Peppa Pig. They have

also worked on blockbuster movies such as

Paddington, Barbie and even Harry Potter.

As part of the model making course, this year,

12 students from NFTS were asked to each

create a character that might fit within Bekonscot

Model Village. They are now on display and the

exhibition is open until the end of August.

For little explorers, collect a treasure map at the

entrance and find the 12 mini versions of the

puppets dotted around the village, spot them

all to claim a small prize. Visit the website to

plan your next trip to Bekonscot, book online at

least 48 hours in advance and enjoy 10% off the

standard entry price, exhibition entry is included.

Director Stephen Flower expressed his pride, noting

the award as a testament to the team’s passion,

effort, and consistently high standards.

The judging criteria considered customer service,

business performance, showroom presentation,

and design excellence. Earlier this year, judge Darren

Taylor visited both showrooms to experience first-hand

what makes Ashford stand out, meeting the team

and reviewing their design process and showroom

environments.

The award ceremony, held at the historic Blackpool

Tower Ballroom, welcomed over 1,000 industry

professionals and was hosted by comedian Seann

its 41st year in business, Ashford Kitchens & Interiors

was honoured to receive the industry’s top award.

Known for its thoughtful design, personalised

Grilled Halloumi

& Rainbow Veg

Skewers with

Lemon - Herb

Drizzle

A vibrant vegetarian barbecue delight -

easy, colourful, and full of Mediterranean

sunshine. There’s nothing like a summer

barbecue to bring people together - and

who says you need meat to make it

memorable? These grilled halloumi and

rainbow veg skewers are bursting with

flavour, ready in minutes, and perfect for

vegetarians and meat-eaters alike.

Ingredients (Serves 4 -6)

For the Skewers:

2 blocks of halloumi, cut into 1.5cm cubes

1 red pepper, cut into chunks

1 yellow pepper, cut into chunks

1 courgette, thickly sliced

1 small red onion, quartered

12 baby plum tomatoes

Olive oil for brushing

Freshly ground black pepper

Method

Preheat your barbecue or grill to medium-high heat.

If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at

least 30 minutes.

Thread the skewers alternating halloumi, peppers,

courgette, red onion, and tomatoes for a rainbow

effect.

Brush lightly with olive oil and season with black

pepper.

Grill for 10–12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the

halloumi is golden and the veg are slightly charred

and softened.

Whisk together the lemon-herb drizzle ingredients

in a small bowl.

Drizzle generously over the skewers just before

serving.

Serving Suggestion

Plate these beauties with a bowl of couscous salad,

grilled flatbreads, and a dollop of natural yoghurt or

tzatziki. Add some olives and a few lemon wedges

on the side - and voilà, a summer feast!

Bonus Alfresco Tip

Frozen watermelon cubes make a refreshing BBQ

snack or drink cooler! Cut into chunks, freeze

overnight, and pop them into sparkling water or

summer spritzers.

Community Twist

Invite neighbours to bring their favourite veggie

skewer combos—courgette ribbons, pineapple

chunks, or marinated mushrooms work wonderfully.

Share recipes, swap stories, and celebrate summer

together.

For the Lemon-Herb Drizzle:

Juice of 1 lemon

Zest of ½ lemon

2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

1 garlic clove, minced

1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley

1 tbsp chopped fresh mint

Salt and pepper to taste

GARDENING

Shine Bright:

5 Essential

Summer

Gardening Tips

As the sun shines brighter and days

grow longer, your garden enters its

most vibrant, yet demanding, phase.

To help your plants truly thrive under

the summer sky, here are five essential

tips:

1. Master Smart Watering: Don’t just spray!

Water deeply and directly at the base of

plants in the early morning or late evening.

This encourages stronger root systems and

minimizes evaporation, ensuring every drop

counts under the summer sun.

2. Deadhead for Continuous Blooms:

Regularly snip off spent flowers. This simple

act redirects the plant’s energy from seed

production into creating more beautiful

blooms, keeping your garden bursting with

colour throughout the season.

3. Stay Vigilant Against Weeds: Weeds

are fierce competitors for precious summer

moisture and nutrients. Keep on top of them

by hand-pulling, especially after rain, or apply

a fresh layer of mulch to suppress their growth

and help retain soil moisture.

4. Monitor for Summer Pests: Warm weather

can invite garden unwelcome guests. Inspect

your plants frequently for signs of pests like

aphids or spider mites. Early detection

means you can often tackle them with organic

solutions, like a strong jet of water, before they

take hold.

5. Nourish Containers & Baskets: Plants in

pots and hanging baskets dry out rapidly and

use up nutrients quickly. Check them daily for

moisture and provide regular liquid feeds. This

dedicated care ensures they remain lush and

spectacular all summer long.

Safe & gentle ear wax

removal at a clinic

near you

Microsuctioning

At Hearwego Clinic we provide instant and effective ear wax removal treatment. Microsuction is the gold

standard method of ear wax removal.

Unlike traditional ear syringing or irrigation, which uses water, microsuction uses gentle suction to remove

ear wax. This is a safe, gentle and effective method of ear wax removal and, in the majority of cases, provides

instant relief and immediately restores full hearing. Our Audiologists are trained in all methods of ear wax

removal, microsuction, ear irrigation (commonly known as ear syringing) and instrumentation.

What to expect at your appointment

At Hearwego our practitioners will use a microscope to see a detailed view of your ear canal and examine

the potential build-up of ear wax. Ear wax and debris are removed using a gentle device. Our appointments

include an examination of your ears and removal of ear wax using microsuction, which typically lasts between

10-30 minutes. Depending on the consistency of the wax, we may need to revert to ear irrigation (commonly

known as ear syringing) or instrumentation. In rare cases, a follow-up visit may be required to remove

particularly stubborn ear wax.

Are you experiencing any of the following?

• Pressure in the ears

• Blocked feeling in the ears

• Need to pop your ears but can’t

• Sudden loss of hearing or muffles sound

• Hearing aids whistling

• Underperforming hearing aids
